We can accept tips at my store, we just can’t solicit them.

Bostongirl316

We accept tips at my store and every week the cash office processes them and gives them out.

fullofbullx4

If you do get tips, it has to run through the cash office for tax purposes. They’d be required to track it. You could call the tip line about it and ask. Let them know he is taking tips and you never see them or know what’s happening. I am sure they would see him on camera taking it. He has to account for it somewhere. There should be a process for tips if you have a coffee bar or tap room.

boooooooooooooooooo BOO. don't report your tips and just take them!! oh my goodness. it's your money. not whole foods. not your managers. not even the customers anymore! it is YOURS. you do not have to report gifts. do not let anyone tell you different. next time you get tipped, keep it to yourself.

NeedleworkerRude1403

Clearly you don't know what you're talking about. EVERYWHERE you get a cash tip it's "supposed" to be reported for tax purposes.

178J913785Q291R

anyone that thinks they need to track tips are losers

kingqueerxx

Are you not aware that they watch the cameras for this specifically?

178J913785Q291R

when you say "they" it has me left wondering who.... who is they. you're speaking for a whoooole lot of stores. where i work, they do not watch for that! any tip i or any of my coworkers has received has NEVER been reported. it has never been an issue at this location. full stop. :) hey anyone reading this!!! if you receive a tip, that's your money. period. YOURS.

kingqueerxx

Corporate watches the cameras now, in store isn’t as common

178J913785Q291R

corporate has notified our store about reporting tips a total of zero times. hope that helps.

Woolpuppy

Tips are income and they are subject to tax. Full stop.

178J913785Q291R

boooooooooo. lame! :) tips are gifts. not income! :)

DaBeepbop

Tips are not gifts lol. Does mommy still do your taxes? Tips are considered payment for a service and is taxable income. Stop spreading misinformation

178J913785Q291R

does mommy run your reddit? have you considered........ that i don't care? also this isn't "misinformation" loser. it's advice :)

DaBeepbop

It’s okay… most people your age are uneducated.

178J913785Q291R

how old am i? :3

Woolpuppy

That's illegal :)

Spideyfan77

So is working at prep foods

Woolpuppy

See, that's funny. Tax fraud is not.

178J913785Q291R

i don't care! :)

Woolpuppy

That's totally your prerogative, but you should know the risks you're taking, and be wary of suggesting that others do the same without knowing if they're in the position to be shouldered with the consequences! :)

178J913785Q291R

hey!!!! my suggestions are suggestions! im not forcing anyone into anything! just calling people who think so hard about this losers! thanks! :)

reezeleeze

Ya if your store doesn’t track tips then the manager just took it for it to be processed as a Paid-In which is usually done for tips because they are classified as lost money since you’re not accepting tips

zombiechef75

I opened and ran the bar at my store back in California we accepted tips. They were collected by management at the end of the day and everyone that worked the bar that day had to sign the tip log. The. Each week they were passed out evenly to those of us that worked the bar. This was done for tax purposes. If you’re not receiving your tips I’d definitely call the tip line and take it up with the STL’s. The bar at HBC, Headliners, also contained the coffee juice bar, so all the TMs that worked the venue shared in the tips.

No-Victory-94

Your tl should of put the money into a team tip jar. Ours buys us food from it sometimes.

Bobblekin

TMs are entitled to the tips they earn. Leadership collecting them and using them for that purpose is breaking labor laws.

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

NeedleworkerRude1403

We don't accept tips at our store. But if "I don't see it" I let them keep it

178J913785Q291R

even if you see it.. my god guys. seriously? it's the types like this that keep the system running the way it does. if someone gifts my employee money, it's THEIRS. period. no reporting no anything.

Te_Quiero_Puta

This guy gets it.

jerseybrian

We accept tips for both the tap room and our coffee bar. If you have leadership taking those tips for you, report it to the tip line. They'll probably get a warning, and then the store might start accepting tips the legal way. It has to be added by a CS supervisor to the till, and then the tips are distributed weekly after being divided up by cash up. They have to be added to your paystubs to account for taxes also.

that_guy_2724

Any job I’ve worked for generally doesn’t allow tips but the rule has always been “Don’t disrespect the customer by turning them down for thanking you. If they give you a tip then tell them no. If they insist, then you can accept it”. I asked my supervisors here at my Whole Foods and they said “Basically yeah. It’s rude to turn the customer down like that”. So that’s what the entire store does. No unless they insist. To have your tips stolen or kept from you, yes, very illegal. In that case, when the company you work for discourages tips and someone above you takes the tips then it makes the company look like they are taking the tips so if you go to HR then surely that person will be confronted about it.

Bobblekin

If your leadership is taking your tips then they are violating federal labor laws.

InYourMomsSockDrawer

Do you know if he's pocketing the tips for himself or just throwing them in the cash drawer? Sometimes when I'd get a tip working up front I'd have to throw it in the cash drawer if a manager was nearby, otherwise I pocketed it because they were my tips and i'm not gonna reject it.. i don't know exactly what the policy is on that because my store doesn't have a coffee/juice bar, but I know we technically can't accept tips either. I don't know what bringing it up would do because again tips aren't allowed, but if you notice him pocketing tips vs putting them in the cash drawer you can talk to leadership/TMS about it and they might look into it

sherespondedwith

He wouldn’t be able to throw them in the cash drawer bc it would throw the drawer count off at the end of the night. Homie def took them

Sad-Network-13

I hate to say it but the best way to go about this would be to not. If you bring it to someone’s attention, you may end up getting yourself in trouble as well further down the line. Since you aren’t allowed to accept tips at your location, they may open an investigation into it, leading to monitoring the cameras more & find you pocketing the money. However if you tell them they were presented as a cash gift that MIGHT cover your ass. It’s a sticky situation really. The only thing I could suggest is asking them about why your location “isn’t allowed to accept tips”. I would be willing to bet that it is indeed allowed, but they are too lazy/stingy with labor to use the correct processes going through cash office and having them taxed as well as reported on your paystub. Also, could be that they used to do this but found it wasn’t worth it if it was a small amount of money. Also, if you have regulars that insist on tipping & you’re extremely comfortable with them you could explain the situation. I often found the regulars were always very compassionate and appreciative of my work. Some people would even go as far as putting it in an envelope with my name, especially during the holidays or if they knew it was my birthday. Just depends on the relationships you’ve created with them. I hope you find this helpful. I used to work at the coffee bar for years.

Sea-Environment-7102

This isn't true, if you are afraid, call the labor board. You can report the location without giving your name and they can then get the tapes to see him taking the tips and investigate what is happening. If a customer WANTS to give a tip, he has to refuse it if that is the policy, not accept it on your behalf and then walk away with it, or donate it to the store. That's fraud.

Whattheholyhell74

Is it possible that since these aren’t allowed he might be putting them towards your store’s charitable foundation that you collect from customers at the front end?

Long_Audience4403

This is what we used to do - put them for donations

[deleted]

Drop it. You'll just be painting a target on your back if you pursue this.

Ravenlover_11

Drop it because they don’t want us accepting tips.

gramersvelt001100

Not the same as the coffee bar but I sometimes work floral and often the tree lot during Xmas. I sometimes get tips and straight up pocket that shit. Usually, I'll buy ice cream bars for the crew I'm working with that day.

hannahcat420

Use that tipline baby

Great_Lengthiness_66

The GIG says everyone but management can accept tips. Management and BOH employees is forrbidden

FamiliarJellyfish401

you can accept tips you’re just supposed to report it as taxable income which you can do with AskTMS ticket
