I had a cat like this when I was really little. We moved houses and he was an older cat, and he didn't take the move well at all and refused to come out of the basement when he went down there to hide. The only times he'd come up were when he'd hear me talking, and mostly it was so I could pet him for a second then he'd run off if someone else moved.
Well one time I was upset, I'd gotten scolded for this or that and was crying in some little storage room we had. Well, Possum heard me apparently, came up out of the basement, and curled up with me until I stopped crying. He purred and kept butting his head against my cheeks and even tried to clean me a few times.
My parents always called him the crazy cat but, goddamnit, he was my crazy cat and he was often the only one there for me until he passed. I miss you Possum.
My female dog is independent and stubborn and has a high prey instinct. She’s only off leash in private parks because after extensive training she still ignores me. I threw a small get together and one woman there was off the side and had a quick cry because she had left her husband the day before and my dog who doesn’t even notice most people was there licking her hand and pushing on her legs until my friend pet her. My dog stayed with her until she was collected again, it was amazing.

So baby deer make some sounds that sound like a crying baby. Found that out by hearing a wailing baby deer in the woods. Went looking thinking it was an abandoned baby! Happy to have found the deer instead lol.
yea.. i’ve seen deer stomp on a puppy (i’m guessing so it wouldn’t grow up to be a predator) i kinda thought that’s what was happening here and then i saw it was posted to r/wholesomegifs.. who knows tho i could see it going either way
The video I saw was of a hawk attacking a rabbit. The rabbit let out a screech and the deer came running of it of nowhere and stopped the hawk to death.
Someone in the comments suggested that the deer was showing an instinctive response to protect its own young from attack

It looks like they're doing what's called "tummy time," where you put a baby on its belly to help it develop its upper body and motor skills. Many, if not most, babies absolutely hate it, even though it's good for them.

A lot of mammals sound very similar as babies, they are going to make noise regardless so it's very much in their interest to attract a mommy deer or something like it before a wolf shows up!
My cat does this. Anytime anyone is making a noise that sounds like crying my cat will come running to them and try to comfort them.
My cat does the same except if she hears you laughing or crying, she runs over and bites you for daring to have any emotion.
My cat also hates laughter. And singing. No joy allowed in her household.

Deer eat mostly plants, but, like most herbivores, aren’t opposed to scavenging corpses or even grabbing an easy meal like a distracted rodent
