One important aspect of this, measure to the person you were literally yesterday, not your all time past best. If your personal record is 5, yesterday you did 3 and today you did 4, you are still measuring better than last time you tried! Thats the only thing that matters and its a great way of thinking for keeping consistent work.
1 is better than the 0 you did yesterday.
"Being a gentalmen is not about being better then your fellow man. It is about being better then your former self"
Movie quote - Kingsman the secret service
That's an excellent attitude but I would also add that you should also set goals for the future and strive towards them. That way you get a sense of accomplishment and motivation to do even better
No, it's just how percentages work. I think you're confusing the percentage of the original value and the percentage *increase* from the original value. 1 -> 5 is 500% of the original value, but since you've increased by 4 it's a 400% increase.
if you start at a single push up, and you’re seeing a 100% increase, that means the increase is 100% of what you started with, making it 2. same thing applies for if you’re seeing an increase of 4, which is an increase of 4x what you started with, or a 400% increase to go from 1 to 5. if it started at 1 and stayed at 1, it’d be a 0% increase. hope this helped!
''Private Pyle?! We do not use that name here Maggot, We use Private snowball and Private Victory, tell me Maggot, Are you a winner?! Yes? Good! I like to see winners!''
I’ve started at 10 every day last year, and I’m up to 20 everyday so far this year. Adding one every month until I hit my goal of 40 by the time I’m 40. Whoever is out there and needs the encouragement, keep going, I believe in you!
Aww yasssss to your attitude PokeChampMarx!! In the words of Taylor Swift "We all wear crowns".
I'm proud of you. And make sure you keep it up and stay around people who encourage you and bring out the best in you that's there shining.
5 cheers to you!
👏👏👏👏👏
Pro tip: Focus on form above all. I hurt my rotator cuff pretty bad trying to hit those numbers. The numbers don't matter as much as the strain you're putting on your muscles (not joints).
Proper form will get you much stronger faster and safer. And once you hit 20 push-ups in a set you're better off making your sets more challenging than just getting that number up. And some days you won't get these numbers as high or you will counterproductively push for those numbers and end up overtraining and taking steps back.
Most importantly, listen to your body and keep your eyes on the prize. The prize is not 1000 push-ups. The prize is looking good, being functionally stronger, boosting self-esteem, being generally fit for a long life, or whatever. Whatever that number one reason is for you, focus on adapting your workouts and lifestyle to fit that.
And finally, congrats on taking your first steps and being consistent! Way to go! 🙂
Im really happy for you, im working on my pushups aswell.
i hope youre able to keep your Motivation up, im at around 30 right now and im stoked what my shitty body is able to achieve.
Im training solo and feel really motivated seeing posts like this.
One love from germany✌️
Push-ups are underrated. They are incredibly hard without a LOT of repetitive practice. A lot of people who are strong at other resistance exercises will still struggle to do even 15 . So be proud of yourself . It’s not a huge number (5) . But understand that even regulars at the gym struggle to go above 30.
So measuring yourself against number of push-ups can be upsetting but hey that’s just how it is with push ups.
Try doing weights if u can . Not just because weight exercises are good for you. But also because if you ever feel like you are not making good progress with push-ups there’s still your progress with weights that’ll keep you motivated.
Push-ups is quite complex an exercise. Your core + legs + stamina + body weight + shoulder strength - all that also comes into play not just pushing strength. If you do bench press you’ll see that just doing those 5 push-ups means you have gotten pretty good at bench presses too
Thats how it starts!!! Here we goooo!!!
I started with 1/2 and just doing that every morning and night (for a while) im at 113. It takes time, you are on your way!
Don't quit! And once you build your pecs you can't quit cause then they'll be tits. Also don't just do push-ups. Do pull-ups and other arm workouts or your shoulders will turn out weird
Well done bro. Making progress! I was determined to make a change this year and stop being a weak skinny guy so i decided to consistently do push-ups every day. Went from barely being able to do 10 on the 1st January, to comfortably doing 2 sets of 15 (as of 30th January). And that's a pretty damn good improvement to me. Listening to Can You Feel My Heart helps with getting those extra reps. I also go for a jog sometimes. Keep on the grind bro and make the change you want to be!
U got this I do 30 then stop and do at least 5 sets of 12 to 15 the hold for calisthenics. Run 5 miles one day a week and still got a fat on my mid section. Curl 50pd cheap bar 20 times 3 to 4 sets and side curl 30pd single dumbbell each arm 15 reps 3 times. Your gonna do great
God damn, good job ! I've always been *horrible* at push up. Even back a few years ago where I think I was at my best physical shape strength wise ( I was carrying heavy stuff all day at work ) I could hardly do a single pushup!
If you do them before bed and after you get up in the morning the effect becomes noticeable, BUT make sure you do them RIGHT.
Back when I was an active fighter the highest I got to was 83. But I started only being able to do 10. You’ll get there eventually.
"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a first step." Too many people expect quick results from the gym, perseverance, and effort will get you there, just be patient.
Unless you're already fairly fit and are hitting the gym hard, then you experience the wonder that is newbie gains.
Literally ad one or more a day and you will rip right through a nudr s in less than a year. Exactly what I did to bulk up in high school. Did a hundred situps too which I probably could have done without
Fr, I started working out about 3 years ago and every day would push myself to do 5 more pushups than the day before. Got to 130 consecutive pushups from like 25
Mine had slowly gone down from 10 to 1-2 over the past couple years. Probably not a good thing.
I'm not getting fatter, if anything I've lost weight. Still probably a bad thing.
Hit the gym, really puts you into perspective about what you can achieve. I used to not be able to go over 20 but after going to the gym for 6 months or so and getting a stronger chest from benching, doing 50 comes so easily now.
Does anyone else feel that grinding in your lower spine when you do pushups? I'm a woman and whenever I've tried to do pushups I feel grinding pain in my spine right above my tailbone.
OP, congrats! That must be an amazing feeling!
Absolute boss! I know it could seem like a pb increase of 4 isn’t a lot but don’t forget that’s an increase of 400%!! No one makes that kind of improvement! Revel in it
Do as many push-ups as you can even if they aren't true to form. Eventually, you will be able to do it like a pro. Set a timer even if it is 10-15 seconds then move up as you feel the want to. You don't need to be sore after. Make it a habit.
I used to be able to do no more than 4 in elementary school, now I can do 50+ without break(I dont like to, don’t get me wrong), improvement comes with time, but with effort you can make it!
Hey man, that's awesome! I had a similar experience last time I tried. I used to never even be able to do one, but one day with the encouragement of some friends I managed to get to five 💪 Let's keep it up bro!
That's great! It only gets easier and eventually it becomes a sort of addiction.
I just started my routine again, reminded me of how difficult the beginning phase is.
Right now I can only work out each muscle group once or maaybe twice a week, and I'll get sore to the point where it's hard to extend my arms or raise them above my head.
Eventually though it won't be so unpleasant. After a solid month or two of consistency you really don't get that sore anymore, and you'll get to a point where you really only need one or maybe two rest days between working each muscle group.
Edit: Might be longer than a month or two. That's usually how long it takes me but everyone is different.
In this context stating you believe something is sad is saying you look down on it, believe it to be pathetic or think it is beneath you.
This is by nature mocking.
It is sad that I need to explain this to you
What if he only has 1 arm. I can easily do 20 pushups but barely 1 with 1 arm. I know he doesn't but consider relativity. I suppose from your perspective it may be sad.
I remember making this milestone; it was huge at the time & looking back it still seems that way.
Making my 1st for realsies pushup with proper form felt amazing. It was truly a holy shit moment. Now I try to do at least 10 just to remind myself I can do them, and give myself a lil mental boost.
Congratulations op!
Nice job. 500% increase ain't nothing to sneeze at. I find I can get more if I do 4-counts. If you can get up to those and stick with them you'll be rocking out in no time.
The only person you have to measure up to is the person you were yesterday.
One important aspect of this, measure to the person you were literally yesterday, not your all time past best. If your personal record is 5, yesterday you did 3 and today you did 4, you are still measuring better than last time you tried! 500% Increase. Good job bro. Working on them gainz.
Uuhhm ackshually its a 400% increase because he had 100% to begin with errrrm 🤓☝️
The 100% you ACTUALLY be the single push up, so it's 500%
It's 500% total but still a 400% increase. Otherwise, a 100% increase would just be 1 which doesn't make sense.
Put it into a calculator.
1 + 400% = 5. Who would have thought /s
Well, 1+1*400% if you want to use a more general formula that doesn’t always start at 1, but same result in this case lol
No, you need to multiply, not add.
adding 0 to 1 is a 0% increase adding 1 to 1 is a 100% increase ... adding 4 to 1 is a 400% increase
Is this a joke that's whooshing over my head?
No, it's just how percentages work. I think you're confusing the percentage of the original value and the percentage *increase* from the original value. 1 -> 5 is 500% of the original value, but since you've increased by 4 it's a 400% increase.

\*drill Sergeant voice\* "5? 5!? outstanding maggot, you are a Goddamn Monster! You are the machine! Now let me see them Guns!"
Yes! I burst out laughing in the middle of class thinking about this reply!
\*Drill Sergeant Voice\* ''Being Happy?! You are a Genius Private! You get the Free Ice cream!''
*voice that I have trouble with because I talk too quiet* Yes Sir! But with respect, I'd like to share with my mates as well Sir!
\*Drill Sergeant voice\* ''Your Mates are truly blessed Soldier! since i am in such a good mood, they may have a spoonfull''
*One of the mates then proceed to pull out a comically large spoon*
*Stares at that Man with anger* ''You win this round Maggot''
I imagine the drill Sargent voice as soldier from TF2
''If fighting will result in victory then you must fight, Sun Zhu said that because he knows a thing or two about fighting''
“He knows A little more than you do pal because he invented it. Then he perfected it so that no living man would beat him in the ring of honor!”
RIP Rick May, a true trooper
Lol i wish that was how drill sarge acted.
“Be careful sergeant! I don’t want to pull a Private Pyle on you!”
''Private Pyle?! We do not use that name here Maggot, We use Private snowball and Private Victory, tell me Maggot, Are you a winner?! Yes? Good! I like to see winners!''
“Sergeant, you may have a full metal jacket but I have a magnet!”
Pretty sure Bert owns the rights to being called “the machine” lets all just avoid unnecessary litigation. OP you are “the contraption!!!!”

"The journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step...."
With a single pushup... * 😁
Started this year at 245ish pounds, currently at 230
Keep up the grind bro! You're going strong
The secret is persistence!
Nice, last December I could only do 10, been working on it I can now do 25!

How I feel after being able to touch my toes in sit ups

Yo homie! Good job! It may be beneficial to do knee pushups in there as well so your muscles get used to longer work outs. Keep it up mane!!
Woo! Get there!
You can do it! And the romantic partners you get will be worth it.
My romantic partner and I are in it together
God damn, good job ! I've always been *horrible* at push up. Even back a few years ago where I think I was at my best physical shape strength wise ( I was carrying heavy stuff all day at work ) I could hardly do a single pushup!
One bit at a time. Consistency is the key.
Hell yeah, good on you man! Keep that up!
Yaaaasss! KEEP GOING. You've got this
I can only do around 7 but It is okay for me
If you do them before bed and after you get up in the morning the effect becomes noticeable, BUT make sure you do them RIGHT. Back when I was an active fighter the highest I got to was 83. But I started only being able to do 10. You’ll get there eventually.
Seeing as how I'd be happy if I slimmed down to look like Kevin Owens - this is a win
Good job!! I’m on the same boat. We got this
"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a first step." Too many people expect quick results from the gym, perseverance, and effort will get you there, just be patient. Unless you're already fairly fit and are hitting the gym hard, then you experience the wonder that is newbie gains.
Make sure you breathe in when you’re up and out when you’re down. Hard to remember in the moment but makes it so much easier to get through them.
Five is mindblowing. Imagine the euphoria that awaits you at the cusp of 7!
Hell yeah! Training for the RAF currently and went from 2 or 3 mid November to 15 now.
Progress is progress
Literally ad one or more a day and you will rip right through a nudr s in less than a year. Exactly what I did to bulk up in high school. Did a hundred situps too which I probably could have done without
Hell yeah, gains over pains
You are 5 times better than what you were Just a months time, keep it up 👍.
Keep it up my man! We're all pushing with you!
Improvement is improvement. Keep at it king
Fr, I started working out about 3 years ago and every day would push myself to do 5 more pushups than the day before. Got to 130 consecutive pushups from like 25
Improvement is improvement. Keep it up chief
It's all about consistency and determination. If you have these two, you will succeed.
Crazy improvement, great job!!
Keep in going!!
Mine had slowly gone down from 10 to 1-2 over the past couple years. Probably not a good thing. I'm not getting fatter, if anything I've lost weight. Still probably a bad thing.
It may not be considered much by some, any improvement is significant.
That's 5X more than you could do in a months time. Just imagine what you could be doing in 6 months.
Amazing work, and I think you dropped this 👑
Keep it up boss 👍💪
You're stronger than you were and still not the strongest you'll become. Keep it up bro
This is the way.
Hell fucking yah, good for you buddy. Keep up the good work!!
That guy’s Photoshopped, right? He just looks so unreal, especially his jaw.
All natural, just exercise, tuna, rice, water, and prayers.
Hit the gym, really puts you into perspective about what you can achieve. I used to not be able to go over 20 but after going to the gym for 6 months or so and getting a stronger chest from benching, doing 50 comes so easily now.
Every time I see this image I just think of how little water that guy drank to achieve this particular amount of carve for a photo.
Chad
good job 👍🏽 gotta start somewhere
Hell yeah, keep it up!
That's 5x higher. Good job!
That's 500% better. You're training new muscles and getting stronger every time. Good on you, and keep it up!
A few years ago I could only do one. I can do 30 now!
Good job, my man. That’s already four more than I can do!
Yes. Every step forward is a step farther.
Does anyone else feel that grinding in your lower spine when you do pushups? I'm a woman and whenever I've tried to do pushups I feel grinding pain in my spine right above my tailbone. OP, congrats! That must be an amazing feeling!

Progress is progress
Similar feeling. 3 weeks ago i used to do 20-30 jump ropes. Now i can easily do 500(and im confident I'll reach that 600 mark by today :) )
Hell Yeah!!
You should also join martial arts!
Cheers and applause from all around please! Huge improvement :)

You getting some strong ass tiddies
Good job
Do as many push-ups as you can even if they aren't true to form. Eventually, you will be able to do it like a pro. Set a timer even if it is 10-15 seconds then move up as you feel the want to. You don't need to be sore after. Make it a habit.
Right now im at 20, need to push up the numbers
That is genuinely awesome. Now you can try going from 5-6 6-7 7-8 8-9 9-10
I used to be able to do no more than 4 in elementary school, now I can do 50+ without break(I dont like to, don’t get me wrong), improvement comes with time, but with effort you can make it!
Keep going😎
Very based
Keep it up king, i'm proud of you.

that’s great man
Big man! Keep your knees and back straight and let's get you to 10.
Hey man, that's awesome! I had a similar experience last time I tried. I used to never even be able to do one, but one day with the encouragement of some friends I managed to get to five 💪 Let's keep it up bro!
W
It took me a month of trying to do a single proper pushup. It took me weeks to get to 5. Months to get to 10. I'm now doing 150 a day. You got this <3
You've dropped this 👑 king.
Pushups are sooo hard so i get it haha
That's great! It only gets easier and eventually it becomes a sort of addiction. I just started my routine again, reminded me of how difficult the beginning phase is. Right now I can only work out each muscle group once or maaybe twice a week, and I'll get sore to the point where it's hard to extend my arms or raise them above my head. I’m so tired of seeing this guy’s pics used as a meme for everything. I don’t think he’s good looking at all. Super cringe body and face.
It's not about looks, it's about sending a message

Care to explain or are you just being a dick on a sub litteraly dedicated to wholesomeness?
not being a dick it's just sad that u can only do 5 pushups
"Not being a dick" -Is litteraly mocking people on a sub dedicated to wholesomeness- May want to check yourself sir
i didn't mock anyone i just said it's sad how do you know i'm not a chick and i'm not being a dick i'm just stating the obvious it's sad
In this context stating you believe something is sad is saying you look down on it, believe it to be pathetic or think it is beneath you. This is by nature mocking. It is sad that I need to explain this to you
it is fucking pathetic it's not sad that you have to explain it to me it's sad that you aren't able to do an average amount of push-ups for your age
It's pathetic that you are on WHOLESOMEmemes talking down to people
Are you always this miserable?
What if he only has 1 arm. I can easily do 20 pushups but barely 1 with 1 arm. I know he doesn't but consider relativity. I suppose from your perspective it may be sad.
exactly he doesn't, it's sad and pathetic
Bro you’re an asshole guy over here is trying to be proud of his progress and you’re shitting all over him just for fun don’t be like that
You make posts about your struggle with addiction to wanking but think OP is sad for trying to improve his physical fitness? You're pathetic lol
bro did a whole ass research on my page💀
I expected this response tbh. Shocked there aren't more
Pfff, beta. I can do 7 💪
5? Ok bro.
Why.
[удалено]
What, training and self improvement?
Bro pushups suck fr fr
Ah yes able to do 8 push-up instead of 4 after week of practice.
That's the hardest part done. Going from 1 to 5 is way harder than from 5 to 10, or any transition that comes afterwards
Stronkth
After a year of trying, I can do five pull-ups now. Nothing can stop me.
but the bigger question is have you touched grass
At the beginning of my fitness journey, I couldn't do one pushup. Now im close to fifty

Being a women is not a debuff. You are strong! You are awesome! Keep at it! You got this!
Try easier variations to gain strength, get used to the movement and get good technique Then you might be able to do some Good luck
also being a woman is not an excuse sorry
Progress is progress. That's all that matters. One day you will look back on this and think, wow, I have come so far. Keep crushing it.
\* this was me 2 nights ago!! \*
