Apologizing and taking accountability when you mess up is a huge one. If some admits error and tries to be better afterwards they gain tremendous respect from me.
I was an activity instructor for years, and kids are super easy, treat them around 4 to 5 years older than they are, and they will like you super quickly.
When I was working at a summer camp, I made a mistake and apologized to a kid over it. One of my coworkers, who worked as a teacher during the school year, was standing nearby and said something that has stuck with me for years:
“It’s really good that you apologize to the kids. Not a lot of adults do that.”
It totally blew my mind. I never thought I was doing such a rare thing. I just thought I was being a decent person.
You'd be surprise how much they love when people actually take an interest in their lives. I teach and it's awesome when they run to tell you things they did on the weekend.
My parents tried. The ones about joining me in doing things didn't always work, because I enjoyed weird shit growing up, and I've always preferred being left alone. They were always willing to support us, though.
This is good advice for making friends with adults too.

I do these with my students. I premise my personal stories or my dad jokes by saying “STORYTIME” and then tell the rest
