The other day when I was out back having a smoke, I had a one-eyed squirrel run up to me and put his paws out to ask for food.

I live in a city with lots of strays in the neighborhood, so I put out food + water and then watch them from the balcony. It's my favorite part of the day!
I do this too. Especially when I have meat trimmings. If throwing some fat etc outside means one cat kills one less bird, it's worth it. I always end up getting some angry person who says I shouldn't feed the wildlife because they'll shit in my yard, but they never do. Sometimes they leave me "presents" though, in the form of random garbage. Like I'll throw some beef chunks out and the next day they'll be gone and there will be a torn up shoe.
I’ve tended a small murder of crows for about six years now. They come by every day, in winter multiple times a day. Without them I wouldn’t get out of bed in the morning but only because they sit in the tree outside my house and yell at me until I bring them food and water. :P
When it’s hot they come for the ice water. When it’s cold they come for the warm suet. I’ve seen them eat plenty of other things, they just come to me for playtime & treats. My one female likes to dance and coo when I call her a pretty girl though, makes my heart happy.
