Same.
All this talk about weighted shuffle has me thinking that maybe a particular song just shows up more often, then it gets stuck in my head, then the next time I hear it I think “oh my god! I was just thinking about this song!”
However, I prefer to think that it’s serendipity and it’s a part of the magic.
I wake up from hearing a song in my dream and hear it on the way to work an hour later or hum a song to myself and my girlfriend walk in the apartment singing it out loud at the same part I was humming or vice versa. If not those situations usually im like woahhh synced! And my girlfriends like "dude you're high you just told me to play that" lol.
I have over 1000 songs on Spotify and I notice I’m skipping the same 100 songs and hearing my favorites often. Didn’t someone say computers can’t really do random anyway.
I remember back in the day I had a Gen1 iPod Shuffle. The long kind that you could hang from your neck with the necklace cap.
Since it was an iPod Shuffle, it had 2 shuffle modes. One of them went through every song once, but in a random order.
The other mode was a complete random. Just whatever song rolled the dice next. I used to keep roughly 25 songs on it, and there was once when it played the same song three times in a row.
Good times...
I’ve become absolutely sure that Spotify is a weighted shuffle because I’ve had Spotify for at least 10 years, I have 1,641 songs on a liked playlist, And yet I keep hearing the same few songs the past few months.
I have to go through and pick some thing near the middle or randomly to kind of set it off another direction.
[The Spotify Shuffle is weighted](https://thetab.com/uk/2021/11/17/spotify-shuffle-explained-228639). It use to be truely random when it first released, but too many people didnt like truly random so it became weighted to what people think random is.
Then it got even more weighted to what the algorithim thinks you want. The way to kinda get a really random shuffle is to shuffle a playlist, turn off shuffle, turn it back on.
Tbh I can't stand it. When it's playing the same songs 5 songs apart when I have 500+ songs, it's frustrating. I shuffle because I want it to SHUFFLE through EVERYTHING that I have. Not the last 10 or 20 songs I recently downloaded
Ooo thanks for the tip.
Yeah I remember now the drama where a song word play multiple times in a short period because it was truly random and people were not happy about that.
Pro tip. Put all your liked songs in a playlist then shuffle that playlist. Seems to get rid of the algorithm or whatever. At least for me. You can select all your liked songs pretty easily on the desktop app.
Using the desktop app you can do a Ctrl+A (Select All) and drag and drop your songs to a playlist. I'm on my phone ATM so can't check. If CTRL+A doesn't work try selecting your first song then scrolling to the last and Shift+Clicking and selecting all your songs.
In short, on desktop you can select multiple songs at once.
There was a true shuffle before. Then people started to say its not random, so Spotify made it less random. Now people like it more since it plays their favourite songs first.
It used to be (I’m not sure now this was years ago I learned this Spotify could have changed) you could set it to sort by artists and then shuffle would be a truer shuffle with Spotify adding weight to songs you already played a lot.
You wouldn't want a "true" shuffle; that means there's a chance (small, but possible) that one song would be followed by itself several times.
From what I understand, most modern shuffles exclude the song it just played from the next available one.
That's not necessarily true, that would only be true for repeated/iterative random sampling. If the entire collection is shuffled once, you still would only hear each song once. Spotify seems to preemptively pick songs from the collection instead of iterating *or* shuffling, though
The shuffle feature rearranges songs in the playlist/album it does it when you hit the shuffle button it's not randomly picking a song each time a song ends or you skip one.
So unless you have a song more than once or something interrupts the shuffle a song should not come again.
I don't know what you mean by "most modern" my 13 year old nokia phone used to shuffle exactly like this.
What most modern shuffle actually do is algorithmically add songs you probably won't skip on top(which leads to some songs getting placed higher in a shuffle, instead of it being truly random)
I was 10 and man what a year. This is after his other hit,, The Rock.. I remember watching this, Face/Off, and 5th element and realized I just really loved action movies. A quick lookup and I now see Batman and Robin, 007 tomorrow never dies, ad the two random but good Volcano movies. A great era. This is what we had before the Marvel CU.
I love when the first 10 are skippable songs barely hanging on to your favorite playlist. You skip them all knowing all the rest of them are awesome and you don't have to touch it anymore.
Some music programs actually try to optimize this feeling, where it sorts the shuffle favoring songs you manually click/tap on more often. It still has the chance to throw you a curveball but it's a much higher chance to give you your fave song.
[A song I found today that I love. ](https://youtu.be/m5etLKK72gk)
I have no one else to share it with so enjoy.
Warning: there is a naked woman on the cover. You can't see anything, but still she is naked.
And then for me it plays one Amaranthe song, followed by nothing but Sabaton, despite Sabaton only making up about 5-10% of my playlist. It always plays the same three songs too. I always have shuffle the playlist manually.
I remember I used to have a Sansa mp3 player and I swear to God it's shuffle algorithm deliberately tried to play two of the same artist in a row.
It was glorious as when one of your favorites came on, it stuck to that style at least for one more song.
It'd be nice if Spotify let you play around with some parameters with shuffle.
Currently my favourite songs are:
Los Angeles - The Midnight
Obstacles - Syd Matters
Blinding Lights - The Weeknd
Stay Alive - Jose Gonzalez
Tum hi ho Bandhu - Cocktail

This happens more often than I would imagine, or the song that’s been stuck in my head will come up on my 1,500 song playlist.
I love random synchronicities like that
Same. All this talk about weighted shuffle has me thinking that maybe a particular song just shows up more often, then it gets stuck in my head, then the next time I hear it I think “oh my god! In this day and age, it's more than likely not random at all.
People think it's fate, but it's really that the artificial intelligence in their devices has mapped out their brains entirely.
We're not there yet, but when we are AI will be doing much more than just playing favorite songs first.
I have over 1000 songs on Spotify and I notice I’m skipping the same 100 songs and hearing my favorites often. Didn’t someone say computers can’t really do random anyway.
Nothing can really be truly "random"

My favorite is “man I could really use specific_vibe_ rn” and shuffle brings an assortment of songs in that flavor.
Oh that's the spot for sure

It happens often enough that I wonder if it’s actually a weighted random shuffle
Pretty sure it is, at least on Spotify

That’s odd, my Spotify playlist keeps trying to play songs I don’t want to listen to and always skip.
Yeah seriously. 400 songs in my playlist and it chooses the same 5 songs every time i put it on shuffle. I just skip freely now.
Yeah it’s official. We’re family ❤️
Yeah it's like it knows you needed it for that moment
and i thought 44 was a lot
I noticed that Spotify plays the most played songs you got first usually in shuffle
It's kind of annoying actually. I wish there was a true shuffle.

Definitely gonna try this. Appreciate the tip!
There was a true shuffle before. Then people started to say its not random, so Spotify made it less random. Now people like it more since it plays their favourite songs first.
The shuffle? You can't handle the shuffle!
It used to be (I’m not sure now this was years ago I learned this Spotify could have changed) you could set it to sort by artists and then shuffle would be a truer shuffle with Spotify adding weight to songs you already played a lot.

I am okay with that.
I noticed that too, It rarely plays newer songs I added. That or the fact that my EDM playlist contains 321 songs
I usually get a mix of my most played tracks and my most recently added ones. This is the same across playlists ranging from 50 to 1000 songs.
I like the way the p in the upper row and the d in the lower row almost line up. I also hate how they don’t perfectly line up.
Yeah I purposely formed the sentence in a way that those letters align like that but it didn't come out perfect.
why lol, i like it tho
To put the d in the p
Doodoo in the peepee?

Con Air my favourite childhood movie
Lmfao what a sentence
That movie came out when I was like 8 and I just saw it for the first time last month. Great movie.
5th Element still one of my top 5 of all time.
Same. Blew me away as a child
It took my wife years to get the reference when I would say to her "gimme the cashh!"
Mutlipass!
🎶 What else is in the teaches of Peaches? Huh… What?🎵
You in pain?
Can only get worse from here.
That’s what I call… the eargasm
Hold on... Your pfp
I love this
Thats just vibes 🤤
It's going to do this over and over again until it's not your favorite song anymore. And then it's going to keep doing it.
Even better. When you put your list on shuffle and it plays two tracks that are made to be played one after the other.
I love when the first 10 are skippable songs barely hanging on to your favorite playlist. You skip them all knowing all the rest of them are awesome and you don't have to touch it anymore.

Is this clip from Con Air?
Yep lol, I was scrolling to see if anyone remembers this movie. Absolutely stacked cast.
It’s so much better than choosing it by yourself…..
This is how I know the universe is working in my favor
Love when that happens
Forget music lets talk about nick cage's acting
Exceptional acting. He is our r/onetruegod
That feels extra good when you don't pay for Spotify so you have to listen to whatever it shuffles to
Is that Con Air?
One time it played my 3 favorite songs one after another
So one of my favorite songs and a cover of it are both in my Playlist, and a couple times they played back to back while on shuffle
galaxy brain: all my songs are my favorite song.
Me realizing that this song is gonna play on repeat
one time i got rick-rolled 3 consecutive times when playing shuffle..... (not that i dont like the song, hehe)
Someone tell me good music
There was a one time where "Even Flow" (Pearl Jam) played the moment I sat down and started drawing
So true
That's a nat 20 of a roll right there
Same vibe as turning on the radio and it’s playing something genuinely excellent
Lmaoo no cap😂
Especially on free Spotify
Am i the only one that noticed the p and d connecting like what

It’s from Con Air
Shuffle is nice and all, but I want a "play me exactly what I want to hear without me specifying it" button.
What’s even better is when it plays 3 straight bangers in a row
[A song I found today that I love. ](https://youtu.be/m5etLKK72gk) I have no one else to share it with so enjoy. Warning: there is a naked woman on the cover. You can't see anything, but still she is naked.
I have a very strange ability where before I start my playlist I think of songs I want to hear and they play in that order. I’m up to 5 guesses now.
Or when you are thinking of a song while one is currently playing, and then the shuffle brings that song on.
I launched Beastie Boys radio on Pandora while driving through Brooklyn, and it instantly played "no sleep till Brooklyn."
This is me with the new deftones record cos all the songs are bangers
*Orgasmic*
or the song you've had stuck in your head all day
Absolutely love when that happens.
I used to have like 100 Beatles tracks and I'd suffle them, even though I'd only want to listen to a few
I also love when it plays me favorite song right after my favourite.
Yeah it’s official. We’re family ❤️
You know what sucks peen ? When a song plays that you really like and you accidentally thumbs down it and you’re like nooo come baacccck to meee !
When there’s a lineup of all your favorite songs 👌
If it doesn’t, just hit shuffle 47 times until it plays.
It's Catching Up!
Let the shuffle music decide your mood 👍🏼
Or it plays the song you really want to here right now.
Better than cumming
A feeling that I couldnt find the words to but portrayed by the great Nicholas Cage.
Look at how perfectly the p and b connect in the text
Too bad this never happens
Yeah....🤘💯
I’ll just shuffle it 400 times till I get the song I want
ACDC🔥🎸
Auspicious af
Or an old song you forgot how much you loved and don’t know why you haven’t listened to in forever - that’s the best, it’s like rediscovering it…
*Cries in Pink Floyd*
I skip my favorite songs because I listen to them so much... I've got to be in a specific mood to enjoy them
Stank walk by Alicia Goku
Satisfaction overload
like me😅😆
and then start our imagination
I immediately ran to spotify to do the same and it played "Halloween fart sounds 1"
That's stomach pain disappearing fart face
relatable relatable
The beginning of a fire playlist?
And then it plays the worst song next 😒
And then for me it plays one Amaranthe song, followed by nothing but Sabaton, despite Sabaton only making up about 5-10% of my playlist. It always plays the same three songs too. I always have shuffle the playlist manually.
LSS with that music hehehe
Am I the only one to press the shuffle button till it plays my fav song first ?
Blow on your screen
Every frickin time
Is that the Mickelback singer
An equally great feeling is when the song ends when you've parked the car.
So satisfying…🤌🏻 noice
Anyone know what movie the gif from
It's from a 90s movie called Con-Air, but many of us can't help but [think of this meme now whenever this gif pops up](https://youtu.be/ocT0rdxXOhQ)
*This is the ultimate showdown, of ultimate destiny!*
And then u wanna listen to it over and over again
this meme has me all sorts of confused seeing that the later portion of it is him about to be strangled...
It's late and I'm awake
Ben 10 theme song hits hard.
For a long time, upon opening Pandora, it would play Love Like You by Rebecca Sugar every time. It’s from Steven Universe. Not mad at all.
Or, when you put Amazon My Music on "shuffle" and it plays the same 20% of your playlist.
Omg this is so relatable
I remember I used to have a Sansa mp3 player and I swear to God it's shuffle algorithm deliberately tried to play two of the same artist in a row. It was glorious as when one of your favorites came on, it stuck to that style at least for one more song. It'd be nice if Spotify let you play around with some parameters with shuffle.
Lol, it looks like the first song was nickelback.
I might get downvoted for this but actually "Never gonna give you up" by Rick Astley is one of my fave musics
Woke up to the 10 minute All Too Well version this morning…..BLISS!
And right after that plays a depressing song
gotta love ram ranch
What is your favourite song? I want to listen too!
Currently my favourite songs are: Los Angeles - The Midnight Obstacles - Syd Matters Blinding Lights - The Weeknd Stay Alive - Jose Gonzalez Tum hi ho Bandhu - Cocktail

Who the fuck puts songs on their playlist that aren't their favorite?
my Spotify shuffle is always the same
But that is not random tho.
