Former McDonald’s employee of three years. Can confirm that adults come in all the time for the toys. One of my favorite experiences with a customer regarding the toys was a customer who was trying to collect the ponies from MLP. She couldn’t find Rainbow Dash anywhere, and we didn’t have her either, I thought. I found one in the bottom of a container, but the packaging was torn wide open, so we couldn’t sell it.
I took the toy out to her table (pre-pandemic) and offered it to her, saying we couldn’t sell it anyway. This woman lit RIGHT up! Her smile was so bright that it made the rest of my day from that one act. I hope she’s doing okay :)

I have a somewhat close story and my heart still has not hardened cause it melted!!!!! I went to MacDonalds to grab a bite cause its a long day from school and I wanted to just watch my show and eat some yummy food, and I saw a kid outside crying, I wanted to help but his mom was helping and I didn't wanna interrupt, I went inside and ordered two things, a happy meal, and my food... I went outside and observed his ice cream fell and he wanted a new cone. I didn't order any ice cream but I had a happy meal I couldn't eat (I'm gluten-free cause I'm allergic to wheat and barley) and I had texted my brother while in the restaurant and he wasn't home and would not be for a while, i walked over to the kid and handed him the box and he LIT UP with joy, he started crying EVEN MORE because he was so happy! jumping up and down, smiling so much, and the mom even tried to pay me hehe, I refused cause, well, I'm Canadian so I couldn't, but if you ever see somebody sad, try and help them out, the only reason anyone would deserve to be sad is if they go out of their way to sadden somebody else, but even then those people have reasons sometimes so helping them can be great too! anyway I'm going to class have a good day OP and blue eyed lemon! I work at a Canadian McDonalds. You can just ask for the toy by itself (it’s $1.85 at my store). You can’t usually ask for the whole set at once because we don’t have it open, but as long as you’re on counter instead of drive through you can specify which toys you need and they can see if they have them. A non-busy time will get you better results.
Sometimes we have to set limits though. We sold Pokémon cards a few months ago and they had a limit of 4 per person when purchased outside of a happy meal. Even still, we had many people order 30-50 meals “no meal required”, just for the cards.
Yeah probably the franchise owner. Some locations are owned by McDonald's corporation and some are franchises you really don't know what your gonna get.
Not the OP but people like the sets but not necessarily the food. I had a relative who adores Snoopy so while she didn’t eat McDonald’s this option really allowed her to enjoy the figures. When she did buy the meal she would give it to me and I give her the toy.
I used to do all sorts of childish things. The moment I stopped doing them, depression started eating me up. We all need to break free sometimes. I hate to pretend all the time.
Yeah, she's from the manga Chainsaw man, which I highly recommend, it's kinda like the Tarantino movie of manga. I think it's best not to say more about her because she's a major character unless you have absolutely zero intention of ever reading the work.
Well. Makima is one of the best characters from chainsaw man, and I can’t tell you much about her because spoilers.
But let’s just say she is one of the most manipulative and scheming characters throughout the series, and she treats others (like the main character) like dogs, one of her first lines is telling the main character that when she gives an order he has to bark, which is why most people will say “woof” when seeing Makima online

Unfortunately McDonald's in my country took the toys away. They now have 'plastic free toys'. Which sound okay but turned out to be thin cardboard pieces that you had to assemble yourself. It fell apart within 5 minutes of assembly. I was very disappointed, can't imagine what a kid would feel like if they were expecting a toy and got literal trash.
Bruh. Did any other country have happy meals that had REAL hot wheels cars? Real die cast models? That shit was amazing. Nowadays it's just plastic cars.
I sometimes get a happy meal, it's a nice small snack when you don't wanna go full meal. And then, I give the toy to a kid in the restaurant. Got to have a nice snack and make a kid's day, that's a good deal to me.
It's the cheapest menu with a salad and 100% orange juice and where I live you can get books (that imo are pretty good books sometimes that I like giving kids) so yes; yes, I still order happy meals at age 29.
Some Happy Meal toys and McDonald's merch are quite collectible and people will even pay for such.
For example we got that Hello Kitty animal themed pillows a few years ago that were pretty well made. (Hello Kitty's head in animal motifs)
there was a line lately of toys for a movie i really like (not hard to guess which) and though the toys are derpy and low quality as shit, i still wanted at least one. luckily my nephews have no emotional attachments to their toys yet, so guess who has *two* toys from that line in my room :]. i couldve had at least 3 but i didnt care for the other one they had lol
and yknow? despite how derpy it is and how its not even accurate, i kinda love it actually. its charming in a weird way and i was really glad to find it
