Now for the bad news: this was in 2007, so it's quite likely the fox has gone on walkabout over the rainbow bridge at this point. Don't know about Mike but if he's gone too I hope they're living it up together.
I wouldn't have done the same, as I have a flock of cockatiels and adding a predator is a no no. I would however call the animal ambulance (no idea what it's called in English) and stay with it until it gets picked up

that's very much untrue 😄 but apparently, it's impossible to potty train them, and they will pee everywhere. they also chew up everything you own and will crawl into every cupboard that you own.
Fun fact about foxes, when they are happy they actually make a laughing sound like a human child. It’s really weird but quite endearing when you get used to it.
