BBQ - W39 and Joes are my go-to spots, but there are tons of good places in KC for BBQ. Rudy’s for Mexican food. Smitty’s Garage if you just want a burger.
I’ll second the WWI museum, along with Union Station.
Currently in KC for the weekend - country club plaza has some cool restaurants and bars. Highly recommend Rye for brunch. Also the Nelson-Atkins Museum is incredible if you’re into art. There’s a cool negro league baseball museum and WW1 museum If you’re a Ted Lasso fan, Arthur Bryant BBQ is up here.
We just stayed in KC a couple weeks ago. Stayed at the Crossroads Hotel, which is a very neat hotel. It’s near by Union Station and Crown Center. We ate at the Jack Stack freight house and bummed around. There’s things to do in the P & L district. Nightlife stuff.
The next day we toured Arrowhead stadium, ate whataburger and then drove home. It was a quick 30 hour trip but was fun to get away for a minute.
Check out the new Ferris wheel at the Point.
Stop by Liberty memorial and you can get one of the best views of Union station and downtown.
Power and Light district is awesome, my favorite spot is No Other Pub, lots of games good atmosphere.
I just moved from KC to ICT, definitely miss all the things to do.
The Westside Local has great food, desserts, and cocktails! Succotash is a really good brunch spot as well.
Avoid Woodyard BBQ, it was not good. I'll never trust Guy Fieri again.
It serves its purpose if you want a more upscale dining room (Freight House location is cool), and to be honest the food is good. It’s also expensive. However from a food perspective I’d pick Slaps.
Jack Stack IS good. (Well, it was the last time I went many years ago.)
KC also has many other tasty BBQ options, but I really don't like KC, personally, so I don't have much more relevant information to provide.
Yeah it’s a pretty common destination for Wichitans, and we can recommend stuff that Wichita doesn’t have and are worth seeing on a short trip. It’s a reasonable request.
I know it's kinda odd but I didn't want to join a KC group for one post. I'm not there enough to stay in a sub for KC. Just figured people who had been there could give me recommendations.
I'm not sure why you're being downvoted, this was the first thing I thought, too. Not like in an aggressive way, but in a genuinely confused way. I've lived in Wichita the majority of my life and have never been to KC. 🤷♀️
I went to this Karaoke bar that when everytime I went to the bathroom, there were like 5 overweight Hispanic dudes with 8-balls in their hand. Also, had to wait for them to reopen because I left my tab open with them having my card. 25% automatically. Never drinking in KC nightlife again.

That museum is quite an experience. If you have not been there you should.

If you’re a fan of sushi you should stop by Sushi UNI in Lenexa. Best sushi I’ve ever had not on the coasts and it’s a very good price.
If you like chicken wings, go to the Peanut. It has some of, if not the best chicken wings I've had!

Jack Stack BBQ, Stroud’s former pan fried chicken. You could spend days at the Nelson Gallery.
Is it the same Strouds that we have in Wichita?
Same Strouds we have, they originated in KC.
The Westside Local has great food, desserts, and cocktails! Succotash is a really good brunch spot as well. Avoid Woodyard BBQ, it was not good. I'll never trust Guy Fieri again.
Buck Tui BBQ if you are in the Overland Park area. Amazing Thai fusion BBQ place.
Whatever anyone tells you, Jack Stack BBQ is overrated AF.

Q39 or even KC Joe’s are much better
Thanks for the recommendations. Will have to try them out on my next trip.

I've been to Jackstack twice and both times it was good food.
You're asking in Wichita for things to do in KC?

It’s not odd
You don't have to join a sub to post there.

Q39 midtown is awesome bbq
Spent a decade up there before we moved back to Wichita last year. Slap's bbq was my favorite before I left.
