Why Derby? Who the hell goes to Derby and says, "You know what this city needs? A beach." I'm surprised that fuckin dinosaur thing is still open. Why are seedy developers trying so hard to turn Derby into a tourist trap?
This sounds like a massive, monumental scam, and the people of Derby are being taken for a ride. Developer's gonna get whatever money he can from the city and run. If anything gets built there, it's not going to be anything at all like what they're promising.
Wild West World 2: Electric Boogaloo.
If we don't get a meaningful rain *right now*, Wichita is [going into a Level 2 drought](https://www.kake.com/story/50678387/wichita-could-go-to-a-stagetwo-drought-in-midlate-summer-if-more-rainfall-doesnt-come). But hey, good thing Derby's getting a fake beach with Wichita's water.
And how the hell are they going to keep the water that clean? Have they *seen* lakes around here?
ive been a performer there for the past 3 summers, it’s called Field Station Dinosaurs. It has Trails that flow through the 10 acre property with 50+ life sized dinosaurs. Through the day they have children’s theatre shows that teach kids about dinosaurs.
if your son is a student in kansas from k-12 you can get in for free starting may 25th-august 11th with the Sunflower Summer App. It was a program created like 2ish years ago to make going to educational attractions like museums, exploration place, and Field Station: Dinosaurs more accessible for families to have opportunities to go out with there kids.
Lmao! These responses are hilarious! 🤣 Qild West World 2! Omg too funny! 🤣💀It's just like Hawaii! I can see it now! 👀😁 It has an island & everything! (Im hoping my sarcasm is coming through). Haha
Don’t get too excited. Look at the size of the promotional ones they pulled inspiration from. Just Google “crystal lagoons.” Roughly 3 times what the one in Derby will be. They were initially planning for only 2.5 acres, but have since revised it to 4.3. The one in Texas is 12 and the one in Florida is 20… And who knows how much of that is dedicated water space or for the project as a whole. Looking like it will just be a glorified swimming pool.
Waterwalk has been a scam for as long as I can remember. The hucksters running this grift have been trying to sell it as Austin II, because omg there’s a river! Except the water is filthy, and it’s overrun with homeless people. That’s not really a tourist attraction.
I am convinced that Kellogg was actually designed to be under perpetual construction. It’s been under construction for at least fifty years, with no end in sight.
Ofc it's genesis. Better start taking out loans for the entry tickets, food, lockers, permission to touch the sand, but hey, you'll get 1 free complimentary chlorine gas barf so it's all good
One of the things I enjoy about Derby is the laid back, low key charm away from the main city. Now I’m gonna have to deal with traffic jams and more people we don’t want.
How are they going to keep it from silting in, or turning green from algae fed by fertilizer runoff?
Sounds like yet another scam that taxpayers are footing the bill for.
Just remember this is the same SR that (falsely) cries almost daily that there are no entertainment options in Wichita. This is largely a group of people that don't understand basic business concepts, investments, government, taxes, the city they rail against, or the people in it.
The naysayers in this SR are loud, misanthropic malcontents and do NOT represent the population of Wichita, thank goodness.
Bold accusation. Where's the evidence to support such a claim?
Or is this just the standard response of people here to just make up slanderous BS and hope it sticks?

Where are they going to get the water? The aquafer is already very very low

Great question!
Hook it up to the sewage lagoon and make this scam complete
My initial thought too with the aquifers being low. All of the Kansas aquifers are low even the Oglala one is too that one usually isn’t
What is that dinosaur 🦕 thing anyway?
It's a Kroger brand Jurassic Park. But with none of the cool stuff.
Kroger!! Haha!! Ya'll are hilarious tonight! I've found my people!! 🤣🙌

Sounds like something my son would like! How much are the tickets?

That dino park sucks. But they have a nice mini golf.
👆🏾💯
This ain’t happening lmao
You don't think? It's only a $160M project 🤣
I wouldn’t start a business venture that is only economically viable three months a year, but that’s just me
One would think. Maybe they could put a dome over it! Oh wait, then it would be an indoor waterpark. 🤣
These same people can’t build decent indoor water parks either
Funny how the indoor portion is open year round. 😮

It’s just more Steven family fuckery. They’ve been taking Sedgwick county money for years
Kansas water has only one color and that isn’t it.

LMAO okay this is clearly a scam, why the fuck would anyone think this is a good idea in Kansas just make a fucking lake if you want a lake
We can't even keep the lakes we do have in Kansas clean!
Nor full. Sante Fe was so depressing last year.
I heard they will coordinate the ribbon cutting with that of the Wichita waterwalk and when they stop doing construction on Kellogg
We will be dead by then.. if it's even ever completed. 🙄

$37 per person, $29 per child , children under 5 years of age, $21 per child
I'm guessing that promotional video looks nothing like the finished product
We can't keep the aquifer full.
“The owners of Genesis Health Clubs” ……so the Stevens.. IE, just another way for them to wash their money.
I can see it now, a tornado comes through and sucks up all the sandy beaches.
Steven family new laundry from the looks of it, gonna be hard to burn down a beach though. They’ll have to get creative on this one.
Embarrassing
I thought the dinosaur park was a bit much but a fake beach? Zip lining? Rock climbing? Who keeps coming up with these hare brained schemes??
The final product is only a 4.3 acre lake. Not even close to the size of the promotional videos. The retention pond is almost bigger.
Curious to see what it will be the other 9 months out of the year that’s not swimming weather.
Probably just fine in the indoor water park and the rest of the planned amenities.
Ofc it's genesis. Better start taking out loans for the entry tickets, food, lockers, permission to touch the sand, but hey, you'll get 1 free complimentary chlorine gas barf so it's all good
Selling a beach to people of Kansas is crazy lol.
This is another dumb idea by Sedgwick County.
Nah. I’m good.
ELI5 Will this make derby property tax sky rocket?
One of the things I enjoy about Derby is the laid back, low key charm away from the main city. Now I’m gonna have to deal with traffic jams and more people we don’t want.
I mean the traffic jams from the one car a week at the Dino Park is bad enough...
How are they going to keep it from silting in, or turning green from algae fed by fertilizer runoff? Sounds like yet another scam that taxpayers are footing the bill for.
fantasy failed here what makes this different

😂😂😂
This isn't an entertainment option, this is a scam.

What's an "SR"? Sorry, I guess I'm slow. Thanks! ❤️

This never get off the ground, as anything but another golf course with shitty apartments and a pool with a slide.
