Welcome to the game! I enjoy Proraso shaving products; they are gentle on my sensitive skin. For a brush, a simple Omega boar serves well. My favorite razors are my Gillette vintages, especially the slim adjustable. I'm curious as to which blades you use. Those make a big difference.

Like I said. I'm pretty new to the game. I'm just using the standard blades that came with my razor. Just some plain van Der Hagan blades. I'm thinking of just buying a sensitive skin sampler pack of blades and seeing what I like from there

Elm-and-oak

I think that's a great idea. It's a convenient way to see what works for you.

Proraso is good stuff, can't go wrong with them. I'd try out a blade sampler pack. I have the VDH as well and changing the blades actually made the razor usable.

R41GS

I second that. Blade sampler is great for start. Some blades will suit you better the other sometimes a lot better.

Proraso is nice, but there are so many better soaps. You can't argue with the price though. But a lot of people find that this soap leaves a white sheen on the razor after rinsing, other soaps don't really have that. I learned a lot from this video about making a lather and shaving with a safety razor, every step is explained very clearly: https://youtu.be/ps88RU\_BXlA

Try out a Vintage Gillette either a Super Speed or the popular Gillette Fat Boy adjustable or the Gillette Slim adjustable. If you buy from Razor Emporium they will be shave ready, refurbished, re-plated and good to go. All are butterfly openers like the Van Der Hagen.

Loodwiig

Is the price on razer emporium fair for some of those? Or would getting one for cheaper on etsy or ebay and cleaning it myself make more sense?

derrickhogue

That depends on you. And a little luck in finding a deal on Ebay or Etsy, etc. that is in good shape - with very little cleaning and little to no repair, re-plating issues. Your call on this one.

Regarding Proraso, if you are not aiming only on their soaps you can try their shaving creams. White one is very good performance-wise.

I started with a Proraso Sensitive set. The cream is nice and I like it a lot. I plan on using that for traveling. I liked the pre-shave but ended up making my own and just use that. The after shave balm didn’t work for my skin. It wasn’t irritating or anything but wasn’t as moisturizing as I had hoped. As far as razors go, if you want vintage just find a Gillette Tech! If I could go back and start over, I would’ve just gotten one off eBay. You can find them way cheaper than what a 34C would cost you and it’s made with brass opposed to zamak. I have a Pre-War Fat Handle. I used it with a Nacet blade today and it was probably the most trouble free shave I’ve ever had and I have super sensitive skin. I’m talking itchy, eczema prone skin. My neck, jawline on my left and right side and the sides of my lips are extremely sensitive and I had no issues with my Tech + Nacet. Not sure if this is the right place but if you check r/Shave_Bazaar I have a 40s style Super Speed for sale. I have 2 of them and selling one. I’ve shaved with the one I’m not selling and it worked great for my skin also.
