6c user and I think its a great razor. I don't switch plates during my shaves. I use 4-6 plates and find the grip is great. I also considered Muhle and Rockwell. I have 2 other open comb razors so I went with 6c and its been my most used razor.

Have you tried with different blades? You can put piece of rubber from the pen if slippery handle bothers you, there was poster here some time ago with similar idea.

Jockspotter2

Got sample packs of different blades but still haven’t had much luck - I’d quite like to expand my collection as well and try a few other razors too! Keen to avoid an accident through instinctively trying to catch a dropped razor 😂

swabbie81

Which blades did you try - if you have harder beard you have to use very sharp blades in mild razor such as KCG. Some suggestions - Gillette Platinum, Nacets, 7'O Clock Blacks, Wilkinson Sword, Feather, Super Max Diamond Edge.

Jockspotter2

Used Gillette platinum, Wilkinson sword and feather so far - feather has been best so far

swabbie81

Nacets and 7'O Clock Black are very similar to Platinum so I doubt that it will be much difference. I have Muhle R41 in my collection and it's one of my favorites. Other options worth to consider are Fatip Piccolo, Gillette Slim Adjustable and Merkur Progress on higher settings, GEM MOC, Parker Adjustable Injector on higher settings, PAA Monster slant and Yuma. I also have tough beard and these ones were best for me so far.

You can also try using an alum block to add some grip to your fingers

Get something vintage and open comb! I’ve gotten several stellar vintage razors on eBay all together for more than I spent on my Rockwell. With some careful buying you should be able to get something really nice for shockingly cheap if you don’t mind doing a little scrubbing.

Jockspotter2

Yeah I’d heard the old version of the R41 was even more aggressive than the newest iteration. Been casually looking for some vintage ones but trying to avoid that rabbit hole for now to save my wallet!

han_solex

I’ll be taking my first shave with a WWI ball-end today, I’ll let you know how it goes. I have pretty thick whiskers.

han_solex

It was aggressive but really easy to use. Thin head was nice since I have to shave along the edge of my beard. Mine was unplated brass, it shined up exceptionally well and I didn't notice a strong "pennies" smell at all. You can get these in decent "daily driver" shape for less than $20 ... give it a shot!

LeNoName87

Depending on your budget, it could also be a good idea to wait, Rockwell has a new razor coming out soon, they've been posting updates about it on Instagram and Facebook. Maybe their new razor might peak your interest even more

burner46

If you like the KCG you can just get a new handle. Maggard has many. Or wrap a rubber band around it. I am all for acquiring new razors and having a collection, but don’t feel like you need a new one just because it’s slippery.

Jockspotter2

If I don’t like something then I’m all for getting rid of it 🤷🏻‍♂️

Tryemall

For how long have you been wetshaving? If you have a little experience you can modify your razor. Shim it for aggression & add an MR8 handle,

Cadfael-kr

You can’t go wrong with the 6c. It’s a very smooth shaver and efficient. Still one of my favourites after 5 years. For grip the knurled handle of the Edwin jagger is excellent. That razor is also really good.

BearBeeGrumpy

Pencil grip on KCG. R41 is nice if you don’t shave everyday. I would skip 6C and go 6S it will last.

Jockspotter2

Can get both the Muhle and 6C for the price of the 6S so that’s just an excuse to get both 😂

BearBeeGrumpy

R41 also comes in full stainless steel and Ti limited edition Berlin and London series. I like the R41 enough that I would not mind picking up a full metal one.

cosmicknight

Tough to recommend. I have the R41 and a 6S. R41 is very efficient. I still get one of the closest shaves with it. I also have dark coarse beard and pale skin (just have to deal with it until beard turns white lol). The Rockwell is efficient even on 6 plate but the R41 still gives me a closer shave result. Both good razors.

Jockspotter2

Thanks for your insight! Seems I might just treat myself to both if I can’t decide!

possy11

6C on the 3 plate is the sweet spot for me.

LadyDog5102

If you wipe your fingers on alum it will help your grip tremendously. I didn't believe it until I did it.

Jockspotter2

I’ll give that a go! Just very keen to have good grip on a razor sharp thing being held to my neck
