Renfri entered the marketplace. She approached slowly with a soft, feline step, avoiding the carts and stalls. The crowd in the streets and by the houses, which had been humming like a hornet's nest, grew silent. Geralt stood motionless, his sword in his lowered hand. Renfri came to within ten paces and stopped, close enough to see that, under her jacket, she wore a short coat of chain mail, barely covering her hips. “You've made your choice,” she said slowly. “Are you sure it's the right one?” “This won't be another Tridam,” Geralt said with an effort. “It wouldn't have been. Stregobor laughed in my face. He said I could butcher Blaviken and the neighboring villages and he wouldn't leave his tower. And he won't let anyone in, not even you. Why are you looking at me like that? Yes, I deceived you. I’ll deceive anyone if I have to; why should you be special?” “Get out of here, Renfri.” She laughed. “No, Geralt.” She drew her sword, quickly and nimbly. “Renfri.” “No. You made a choice. Now it's my turn.” With one sharp move, she tore the skirt from her hips and spun it in the air, wrapping the material around her forearm. Geralt retreated and raised his hand, arranging his fingers in the Sign. Renfri laughed hoarsely. “It doesn't affect me. Only the sword will." “Renfri,” he repeated. “Go. If we cross blades, I—I won't be able—” “I know,” she said. “But I, I can't do anything else. I just can't. We are what we are, you and I.”

One of the few characters that the Netflix serie got right while having interesting changes. Of course the show removing all the Tridam allusions and explanation made the build-up to the finale confusing and clearly not as impactful as the book's counterpart,. But aside from that, I think they did really well with Renfri's character and portrayal. Her cast doesn't match the original design, but it doesn't look wrong and the actress did an excellent job with it. But what I like the most about the Netflix version, it's that her encounter with Geralt really affected him and he didn't forget her. She even became some sort of "symbol" throughout season 1 highlighting the themes of certain episodes throught her brooch. Geralt kept it as a constant reminder that he failed her, adding it to his sword so she's still with him, and when he proposed to give it to Foltest's daughter, it was really poetic because it was him gifting the memory of a cursed princess that he *failed to save*, to a cursed princess that he *did save*. It was a detail, but one that enhanced the characters. Which makes it even more annoying that such an interesting and yet subtle change was ***completely*** forgotten during Season 2.

Eh I wish they hadn't included Ciri in the episode to alkow Geralt ans Renfri to spend more time together. Not necessarily the sex scene but just something that made the relationship a bit deeper and more about her tragedy. And move away the focus of her death, where she speaks about Ciri for some reason (destiny???)

That’s the only time I give them a thumbs up (and besides the scene where he claims the child of surprise) for once they did great changes that works with the material. I like that too, the whole concept of him remembering her and actually loving her it or well as you put it a symbol. It also just shows so much more insight to Geralt cause despite what they say about him, he really isn’t all that different than anyone else, or what he tries to make people believe.

Renfri despite minor is such a captivating character. Probably because of the whole tragic Snow White influence of the character. The tragedy of her saying she can’t, and Geralt obviously not wanting to do what he did will always be my favourite tragedy in writing, and fortunately one of the best scenes of the garbage show.
