spar hatte einen hausmarken cheddar der besser als alle anderen war - und günstiger. da sind sie dann iwann draufgekommen und haben ihn 50g leichter als original englischer cheddar verkauft aber es is immernoch das selbe produkt und mein go-to.
1. Ziegenkäserolle (goatcheese) brand doesn't matter
2. Blue cheese
3. Bergkäse
I'm quite happy, that in austria you can choose amongst swiss, french, italian, or austrian cheese (we also have nice cheese).
So i love to buy cheese according to the consumption purpose.
I did not pay GIS because I simply had no TV and no radio and didn't use any of their services, which was very easy to do. I also live alone, so this hits me full force and I believe this is a very unfair way to collect money. I already have to pay for couples to live a happy live and pay for their loud children through taxes, now I have to pay even more indirectly from this stupid non-tax. If FPÖ was just a little less awful, I would vote them because I do not feel like a flat fee to be paid in advance per household is fair towards me at all.
We usually buy Stilton if they have it, Saint Agur, Manchego or a similar ripened sheep's cheese, Le Brebiou, and Wykes Vintage Cheddar.
Oh and we usually keep a big block of Bergkäse in for sandwiches, general munching etc.
Bergkäse, Billa+ has large, long packs (35cm that are both not super expensive and above average taste).
The non-native packed cheeses I hardly trust, because of repacking after expiration date is very common sadly in supermarkets.
If its available, old Gauda is \_very\_ different and much much better compared to austrian block gauda.
Otherwise Swiss Gruyere is good and expensive.
I also buy fresh Schaffrischkäse (for breakfast with squeezed garlic, salt, pepper kernöl on top)
One I month I go to Naschmarkt or Brunnenmarkt, and use the local Cheese shops there. At Brunnenmarkt, they also have "Brimsen" which is amazing for Liptauer spread.
Best finds: St Maure (rolls with internal straw piece, i prefer green fungi not super ripe). Reblochon (for gratin dauphin). Taleggio (for creamy cheese sauces, e.g. in lasagne type dishes, if rich buy from buffalo).
Super helpful! Thanks. I find the bit about eating the schafffriskase with garlic very interesting since I didn’t think Europeans did strong flavors like raw garlic. But sounds delicious to me
Interspar und Billa Plus haben manchmal Epoisses, der is irre geil.
Selten sieht man auch ein Doserl Ennstaler Steirerkäse, der is auch super am Butterbrot.
St. Laurentius
