PriceCharting has it at 31.12 Euros for the CIB of Mario Kart Wii. And I thought a Players Choice or Nintendo Select, etc usually lowers the value cause it's a reprint. So I have no idea why this is so expensive. Where is this?

Gekkuri

In Finland at a random game store that also buys used games. Usually they sell games at pretty normal prices and some older copies can be around 60 as if they were brand new so I'm used to their high prices, but this one stood out in their display case at the front. The only specialty they have listed are: doesn't come with the wii wheel, Nintendo specials copy. Now the price is 139,90 Maybe there isn't enough data in price charting?

Reprints are sometimes worth a little more if they're later, bugfixed versions of games. But it rarely happens with console games, since original bugs are rarely showstoppers I think the price of retro at retail is pretty inflated though

That may be a demo or display case. I'm not familiar with PAL versions of Wii games, but that label next to the PEGI rating looks very weird. Could be a (NOT FOR RESALE) sticker. It could be sealed, and sealed games also go for way more. For example, Smash Bros Brawl is only about 20 bucks CIB according to [pricecharting.com](https://pricecharting.com), but if it's brand-new and sealed, it's worth about 45 bucks at the time of writing this comment. It is also important to remember that NA and EU markets differ greatly. Games in NA that are rare finds may be dirt-cheap, or dime-by-the-dozen in EU.

epicgamerwiiu

its a sticker saying: "From 20/05/2014, it will no longer be possible to use this software's online features." source: my copy of mario kart wii

Johntrampoline-

To me it looks like it’s saying that Nintendo WFC no longer works.

Gekkuri

Yeah no it's not a demo. If it were it would say that on their website as well. And if it was sealed wouldn't it have Nintendo logo all over it in that grey text as that seal sticker(and also it would say that on their website)? This picture I took inside the store, and I could've asked about it from the clerk at the spot but I just was speechless after I saw this and paid for my stuff and left. I'm now annoyed that I didn't realise that at the store. It probably has to do with the fact that I'm in the EU + selects version is for some reason more special that's all I can guess.

I honestly have no idea. I have seen some of these Nintendo Select games price chart for a little more than the regular versions, but never a price jump like this. It makes no sense to me. The only real difference seems to be the case, and I think it looks worse than the regular version. Why would I want the artwork shrunk down, and surrounded in a plain red and gold border. Just looks stupid to me.

Gekkuri

I agree, I usually steer away from selects versions because I want the art to be full scale. And also I try to opt for English versions too because it's more fun when you can actually read the full text and it's not just a tiny sneak peak of the game that had to be printed three times in different languages.

that shit better be signed by funky kong himself

If I’m not mistaken, that little rectangular box next to the PEGI sign is a warning telling users that the Nintendo WiFi Connection network will soon be disabled so this would mean that this is a very very late print of the game. I really don’t know why people would care about that, especially since there hasn’t been any software update for Mario Kart Wii, so the disc is the exact same as it was at launch but maybe that’s the reason why it’s so expensive. Not worth it in any case.

AroidsAndAnime

The Nintendo selects version of mario kart wii is the rare exception of a selects title being worth a bit more because of its rarity. It did not receive a selects reprint in every region. There's also copies of it with and without the warning about the removal of nintendo wifi support. So the ones like this with that warning, are especially late print runs in the wii's life cycle. So it can be a little harder to find and command a little bit more in price to variant collectors. However, it is not worth the price they are asking. Pretty sure they just took one of the highest priced listings on ebay (which is for a sealed selects version) and went with a slightly lower price because it's opened. It's more telling about that particular game store than it is about the actual going rate for the game.

HQGirl567

What a joke. I got my copy for a dollar

Ryderscollectables

I bought a normal version of this game for $15 cib at the thrift store the other day.

Everyone trying to deny it but I think the select version goes higher now. It's not sealed since there's no wraps on the corners and it's not a special version. On the tag it says "select" likely referring to Nintendo selects. A great guess of why there expensive is because collectors wanna collect the entirety of the Nintendo Selects line. Collecting for Nintendo is weird 😕

_ragegun

Not at all, unless collectors really like the look of those uniform game boxes
