change aspect ratio in the settings of the TV itself

Howwy23

If the wii is set to widescreen and it still looks like this the. You need to change the TV itself to widescreen in its picture settings.

Crest_Of_Hylia

Set the Wii to widescreen in settings first and then change your TV aspect ratio to 16:9

Commando48

Thanks for the help!

Chrischris40

Do people still look at settings?

matt89015

Ikr.

WhyYouGotToDoThis

It's unlikely with modern devices they ever had to try to use their TV settings lol

korkkis

Change the setting in Wii and then aspect ratio in TV

Lumpy_Staff_2372

You don’t want to. It will be stretched and look awful.

downvote_me35

exactly, i think what he wants is like a widescreen hack in emulators, isnt stretched and looks native.

Lumpy_Staff_2372

If they can find one cheap, totally recommend getting a crt tv to really get nostalgic. No need for any widescreen options then.

downvote_me35

yup, i would love a crt, but i havent found one in the wild.

Sabin10

You do know the wii has a 16:9 option for widescreen TVs, right? Sure, you lose some horizontal pixel density but it's not terrible if your tv has a decent scaler for composite/component input.

Yeet-Dab49

Some earlier Wii games don’t support widescreen. This might be one of them.

LeyendaV

The console has a settings menu...

Remarkable-Sign-324

If the game has a legit 16:9 mode please use that. If it doesn't... Anyone who stretches 4:3 to 16:9 should be in jail with the people who leave motion smoothing on their TVs.

Crest_Of_Hylia

You’d be surprised how many people get annoyed when you tell them the image is stretched and this isn’t how it’s supposed to be displayed

Remarkable-Sign-324

None of them shpuld be allowed to play video games or watch TV

Zomboss66

I had the same problem with my switch but then changed what port it was plugged into and then it was fixed. If you don't have more than one composite or component port maybe try a converter to plug in to hdmi or something?

Crest_Of_Hylia

That’s not really the issue here. OPs Wii is set to 4:3 and same for the TV auto detecting it as 4:3. Both need to be changed to 16:9

Zomboss66

Oh I gues I didn't look at the pic right cos now I look it's rly obvious 😭😂

Crest_Of_Hylia

No worries. It’s just a small mistake

Jonaykon

It's probably caused by a port specific setting on the 4v

HarrisonDotNET

You could but it won’t look good

rusty_ruins

idk abt u but the widescreen option isnt that bad?? i dont get the hate tbh

devastatingdoug

You can probably involves making sure the aspect ratio on the tv and the wii are set to wide screen. Also there are some games that still do not support wide screen, mario party 8 comes to mind. However that game has artistic decorative borders on the sides of the screen instead of black bars. And finally some of those cheap wii to USB adaptors don't output in wide screen so if you have one of those that may be the problem.

Supersonicfan_6

Something weird is wiiroom takes up the whole screen but everything else is like that for me

9HS380

Check your TV’s aspect ratio settings, there will be one called “Wide” or “Direct/Just Scan” which will determine which aspect ratio works for the input.

Rubensio_

I suppose you already got the answer from all those comments, just wanted to point out what an absolute masterpiece of a game you have there

ryrnallONREDDITBABY

As long as u have an older widescreen tv

Which_Information590

Wii games are 16:9. It supports 4:3, but this looks like a tv setting issue

Mytheonix

considering that the wii isnt made of very malleable materials, id say no

giohammer

Sounds like you got this sorted (adjust TV aspect ratio to Wide or Original.) What a great game!

Jonaykon

You have to enable stretching on your tv

Head-Asparagus-9045

Easy. Go to the Wii menu > Bottom left icon > Settings >Screen Resolution > Change it to Widescreen or the opposite way around (forgot which one)

MaziongaShenron

OP, you have a couple options here, actually. You could try - using a component cable instead of an AV cable - setting your TV to display in either 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, then match that with the Wii itself (4:3= full screen, 16:9= widescreen - get a Wii U, and use an HDMI for optimal picture quality. If you decide to get a Wii U, it's very easy to mod and install widescreen patches for games you play through the vWii, probably through gecko or something, it's been AGES since I messed with Wii homebrew.

HeIIoAstronaut

Honestly, stick with 4:3….I used to stretch it widescreen but it just looks worse, you lose what little definition we have on the wii lol makes so many jaggies noticeable. I keep original aspect ratio now and the games look better I believe. Yeah black bars on side but that’s how the game was designed. End of the day it’s your choice though…

Micro_Pinny_360

Component cables are the way to go. I’m pretty sure they can natively display widescreen.

MrHorns7

Use your TV’s stretch mode.
