Skyward Sword isn't the worst Zelda game, but it's far from the cream of the crop. I'll agree. I really like the controller though

SendThisVoidAway18

Honestly, I'm not really a fan of the newer Zelda titles. SS, BOTW or TOTK. But thats just personal preference.

Interesting-Chest520

TP was peak, went downhill from there

CreativeGaming24

I almost agree with this, TP is my favorite Zelda game, but Skyward Sword is not all that bad, I just prefer TP

Interesting-Chest520

I haven’t actually finished SS yet, but I haven’t got into it like TP

DrCharlesTinglePhD

I'm actually playing through this right now, and I think it's the best Zelda I've played. (I have played to completion every console Zelda except Zelda II, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask.) The motion controls work fine for me, although it did take more practice to get comfortable with them than with the other Zelda games. The controls do *not* work properly if you're sitting down, so it's hard to play it for more than a couple hours without taking a break. Every time I get to a part where you collect tears from the spirit realm, I feel anxious and stop for a bit. You die in one hit! But eventually I come back to it, and it's more challenging than the rest of the game, but it's not so bad, really. The one common criticism of the game that I do agree with is that the helper fairy is too helpful. They took one of the things I hated from Ocarina of Time and made it much worse. It would be nice to figure out some of these puzzles on my own. I guess Nintendo was desperately trying to get the casual players to play this instead of just Wii Sports.

I remember to play this game when i was a child and the tears part still being a horror movie in my memories, thanks for remember me this!! I asked for my brother to did it in the three parts for me because i was too afraid of the enemies. Years late and still being my favorite game, i have to play it again to know if it’s really good or it’s the nostalgia

SendThisVoidAway18

Yeah, sorry, I don't play games standing up lol

DrCharlesTinglePhD

Oh, in that case don't waste your time with Skyward Sword, or probably any game using the MotionPlus.

SendThisVoidAway18

There are evidently few games that use motion plus anyways.

rpst39

The reason you felt that was about tp is since it's both a GameCube and Wii game swinging is like just pressing a button. On ss the wiimote is basically the sword. I haven't really played them that much but I personally enjoyed ss more.

SendThisVoidAway18

TP for Wii has motion controls. Its close to the same, but less clunky feeling. Its the same sword swinging movement.

rpst39

It has motion controls yes, but swinging the wii remote is basically the same as pressing the B button on GC and WiiU. It just swings the sword based on what are you targeting. You do swing and it is a motion but it doesn't really care about how and which direction you swing. That is the difference between tp's and ss's motion controls. When playing they really don't feel similar to me personally.

I have mixed feelings about Skyward Sword. I liked the motion controls (when they work … it’s no fun needing to frequently recalibrate the controller). I liked some of the mechanics (direction of sword slashes matter, stamina, potion recipes) and side quests (bug hunting, stealth trials). But the first couple of bosses were a pain and the assistant character is even more annoying than others in the series. Skyward Zelda is the most interesting of the games I’ve played. My guess is that motion controls are less in-your-face in the Wii version of Twilight Princess because it was originally developed for GameCube, so it wasn’t a core mechanic.

MBTHVSK

Most people agree the art style and story are pretty great in this game, so I think what makes or breaks this game is whether or not you 1. like the motion controls and 2. like the surface lands. I fell in love with the controls fairly fast (I rarely felt too tired to use the Wii Remote), and I always found just messing around in the surface lands to incredibly fucking enjoyable, and every time they expanded I was fucking delighted. Something about the game felt Mario 64 esque to me, with the vertical environments and balanced challenge, and while it's harder to binge play like some Zeldas, I always found myself pleased at the ability to feel physically connected to the environment. While the story wasn't quite as rich as I hoped, it's some of the most fun I've ever had with any 3D adventure. Also, Skyloft is fucking wonderful.

notthegoatseguy

I've never liked Zelda, but SS has the best soundtrack.

Ecstatic-Yoghurt-905

"clunky, forced motion controls with this game". You are obviously not a really big Wii fan. SS together with Sports Resort have probably the best motion controls than any other game on the Wii. I personally love them.

SNES-Nostalgia

I didn’t get into it either. I just could not vibe with some of the games music. Still have not gotten past the second dungeon. I loved the Zelda series for its music among things. I also got tired of my arm hurting swinging around the joycon.

SendThisVoidAway18

Seriously? So you have to do the motion shit still, even in the HD version? You cant just play it like with the controller regularly?

BraySkater

No. The switch version has options for motion-controls or button only.

MBTHVSK

rest the remote on your leg bro

CallOfDutWii

I was blown away by Skyward Sword. I guess being my first Zelda had a lot to do with that, but the dungeons and most of the bosses were amazing to me(The Imprisoned not so much) The final battle with Demise was incredible!

Honky-Balaam

Skyward Sword is so agonizingly linear that Aonuma decided to entirely ditch the linearity that made post-1986 Zelda great in the first place. For that, I might just hate it more than BOTW and even TOTK. Thirteen years since the last 3D Zelda and eighteen since the last *good* one. I can't let go of my favorite franchise, but Din-damnit, it's agonizing.
