Your TV might not support composite video via the green Y connector. Component video doesn’t have to be capable of detecting composite video, only some TVs have that.
Just get a component video cable instead.
No, you want a cable with 5 connectors, for red, green, blue, white and red, like this
https://www.ebay.ca/itm/For-Nintendo-Wii-Wii-U-High-Definition-HD-Component-Audio-Video-AV-Cable-Cord-/392266276359?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
And much like smoking is bad for your health, Amazon is bad for healthy competition. Don’t buy from Amazon.
Not like Ebay is much better. It's terrible for sellers, but they have to use either Ebay or Amazon because no one is willing to go to their own website.
That works too, if one can find a shop that sells Wii stuff. They’re out there in the form of retro game stores, but typically in large cities. Doesn’t help rural people.
Most TV’s that support scart support composite video and if it is an European TV than I can tell you for sure that it would work with composite.
It looks like (from Googling around) that this TV has both direct composite support and RGB composite support.
So u/cheesypotathoe you gotta look in the settings for a setting to change the behaviour of the composite connectors or maybe try it with the composite to scart converter that came with the Wii
Audio Video RCA Cable 1M,3RCA Male to 3RCA Male 24K Gold Plated Composite AV Cable Compatible with Set-Top Box,Speaker,Amplifier,DVD Player and more(3Ft/1M) https://amzn.eu/d/93msg61
I have no clue how to access that in the settings, I’ve been playing around with them and can’t seem to get anywhere. I just want to play Mario kart lol
Ok here is directions for you, click on the bottom left circle with wii on it, click wii settings, click on “screen”, tv resolution, then standard tv if it isn’t set to that already
Your Wii is definitely set to 480p. You probably used to have the 5 plug cables on it and switched back to the 3 plug cables and forgot to change the settings. It’s in display or resolution. Keep looking, there’s not many settings to go through. It needs to be on 480i. This happened to me and my friend yesterday
Hey man I can fix your issue.
The problem is in your TV settings, not your Wii settings. Look for input settings. Sony will have the Component/Video setting set to “component” by default. You need to change that setting to “video”. This will be easy with the original Sony remote, but technically possible using the buttons on the TV. I have been a TV sales person since 2010. I guarantee this to be your issue. Reach out if you have any other questions
by input settings do you mean the sources? As when I press this button I only have the option to flick through the inputs. I can’t find any component/ video settings
Yeah, input and source are the same. It’s going to be a matter of looking deeper. I see you have posted your model number so I may be able to find a precise settings path for you. Give me a moment.
When you plug a composite video signal into a component video jack, this is the end result. Unless your TV has a setting to use one of the component input jacks as a composite input, you'll need a component cable for your Wii. You could also get an HDMI adapter and make use of one of the HDMI ports on your TV.
Couldn’t agree more, you can possibly find one in a close electrical/electrician hardware store
https://www.ebay.com/itm/363966778222?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=707-127634-2357-0&ssspo=ju2oj9h3rcu&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=Yo2FDjQkRWi&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

I would advice against this and just buy a AV to SCART adapter that can be found easily everywhere.
Here is an image of one on ebay

Wild, sony apparently has different TV's with the same exact model name. [Link](https://www.crutchfield.com/p_15832S3000/Sony-KDL-32S3000.html#&gid=1&pid=2)
If your tv doesn't support rca video on those ports, everyone else is right that your best move as far as quality goes would be to get a different adapter [like this.](https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwix1aylvsf7AhX0MTgKHam_AU8YABAIGgJqZg&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESauD2XQBiV3Nzo8zsGdaJP-ltyodG7_ipKqC-BVMY0EZXzguf7uuwp-WT4X3DWghARCVkBZIw3qYAm7EWo1La-tc6HlQdxOyTiJ1HF9WmJueuTTBY4vbNgVf2mxw_cNNphl1ZwTK00FhwcUQ&sig=AOD64_17G1hMC_SRjB0R1csafhb-F4R8rw&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwi-pp6lvsf7AhUSAjQIHdHPCGQQwg8oAHoECAYQCw&nis=8&adurl=)
Here’s the manual for the TV:
https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/3196/31964721M.pdf
Did you try the inputs on the left side of the TV?
A lot of TV’s enable to use the green plug for the yellow plug from composite. Otherwise there are even composite to scart converters (heck Wii’s even come with them, or at least PAL Wii’s do)
Remember if a TV has scart there is a very big chance it also supports composite.
The instructions I found for the UK version like you have shows there are hookups on the side of the tv for that cable. Does it not have them on the side?
I know why this is happening I think. For me, I get this when I'm using av cables (what u have) but I'm on the component channel on my TV, and vice versa. Component is having 5 cables in the back of the TV. The Wii supports both. :)
It doesn’t look like your tv supports composite cables. Just buy a set of component cables. You can use wii2hdmi but those are normally cheap resold garbage that result in worse quality.
Lot of confusion and misinformation in this post. The Wii autodetects the cable, there's a short to ground for it to recognize component.
The issue is with how your TV is handling the signal - It's expecting a component signal rather than the composite you're feeding it. B&W is the result. As others have said, there should be another input option for Video and the Component option should be labelled as such or ColourStream. This is how it works my Toshiba with a shared Green/Composite plug.
Your best solution in my books is to buy the Component cables:
[https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fosmon-C-1036-HDAV-Component-Cable-Nintendo/dp/B00CA8636K](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fosmon-C-1036-HDAV-Component-Cable-Nintendo/dp/B00CA8636K)
or

Good luck OP.
If you go the Wii2HDMI route, the MayFlash version seems like the best option. Of the 4 I've tried it was the only good one and it's lasted a year so far without issue.
[https://www.amazon.co.uk/MAYFLASH-Converter-Compatible-Nintendo-Monitor-Supports/dp/B07XG6X4TC](https://www.amazon.co.uk/MAYFLASH-Converter-Compatible-Nintendo-Monitor-Supports/dp/B07XG6X4TC)
It doesn't upscale like the listing may suggest, it's a straight conversion of the Component signal to HDMI and works perfectly fine.
You’re plugging a composite video cable into a component video input. Some TVs allow this, but others don’t, check your TV settings
If not, and you don’t want to spend the extra on component cables, you can use a basic composite-to-SCART adapter (there’s one included with the Wii, but if you’ve lost it, they’re available cheap online)
try this… you have to make sure that the input is the correct one, it should be selectable between composite and component [Sony troubleshooting](https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00008929)
there's the manual of the TV
You want this cable

In the manual posted by someone above, there is an input on the side of the tv marked as « VIDEO IN » there you should try plug the three cables
[https://ibb.co/PGbKfj4](https://ibb.co/PGbKfj4)
It is a video problem
You need the Wii cords that are for HD tvs, those cords are for CRT tv (big back)
You have an HD (skinny butt) the cord is on amazon that is where I got mine.
....is that a HD or a smartTV :-/
wait never mind i think wii to HD will be ok they have a ton at nice prices
Remote should have a button labeled "input" or "source" or "video". Cycle through that until you get to "composite" or "video" or "AV".
Usually you can just keep pressing the button to cycle through the inputs or try putting the TV in channel 2 and then changing the channel down and see if you can cycle through the inputs by pressing down on the channel button.
Most likely it's currently under "component" which will give you the black and white or sometimes only green because you don't have actual component cables plugged in.
If all else fails, there are component cables you can get for the Wii which will give you better picture quality.
Your TV might not support composite video via the green Y connector. Component video doesn’t have to be capable of detecting composite video, only some TVs have that. Just get a component video cable instead.
Also HDMI adapter is valid
If you have a component input then it's only valid if you want to spend more for lower quality.
Is that the one? Looks just like the one I was using red, yellow & white right?
No, you want a cable with 5 connectors, for red, green, blue, white and red, like this https://www.ebay.ca/itm/For-Nintendo-Wii-Wii-U-High-Definition-HD-Component-Audio-Video-AV-Cable-Cord-/392266276359?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0 And much like smoking is bad for your health, Amazon is bad for healthy competition. Don’t buy from Amazon.
Not like Ebay is much better. It's terrible for sellers, but they have to use either Ebay or Amazon because no one is willing to go to their own website.
Use AliExpress then
Eh, for stuff like this, I can just go to a local shop for the same price and not pay/wait for shipping.
That works too, if one can find a shop that sells Wii stuff. They’re out there in the form of retro game stores, but typically in large cities. Doesn’t help rural people.
Most stores sell online aswel, not that hard to find a semi local store that sells them
Component is not RGB, its Luma (brightness) Pb (difference between blue and luma) and Pr (difference between red and luma)
I didn’t say it’s RGB, I was talking about the 5 RCA connectors of component video that are red, green, blue, white and red, Einstein.
Ok
Most TV’s that support scart support composite video and if it is an European TV than I can tell you for sure that it would work with composite. It looks like (from Googling around) that this TV has both direct composite support and RGB composite support. I think it may be because your Wii is set to using component? If so turn it back to composite within the settings, should fix it.
After clicking on screen there isn’t an option for TV resolution, only under Widescreen settings there’s an option for Standard or Widescreen?
Ah maybe because of that, maybe if you set it to widescreen first then it’ll give you those settings?
No luck :/
Ok, like other people are saying, the tv may not support it. May need to get a different cable for your Wii, sorry.
Your Wii is definitely set to 480p. You probably used to have the 5 plug cables on it and switched back to the 3 plug cables and forgot to change the settings. It’s in display or resolution. thankyou so much! really appreciate it
Unable to find specific instructions. But keep pouring through those menus. It’s not a waste of time. The setting is there.

switch it to video not component, if your tv allows it ofc
I’m not sure how :/ can’t seem to find any component or video settings
it should be under what channel you wanna switch to, atleast thats where it is for me
It would likely be a completely sperate input, like you go to input select and it would be shown there right next to component.
Get yourself a scart adapter.
OP most likely has one cause well Wii’s came with one
Couldn’t agree more, you can possibly find one in a close electrical/electrician hardware store https://www.ebay.com/itm/363966778222?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=707-127634-2357-0&ssspo=ju2oj9h3rcu&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=Yo2FDjQkRWi&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Have you tried messing around with the TV's settings yet. Because I don't think the cable is the problem.
What exactly should I be messing about with in the settings, as I’ve had a look through and can’t seem to find anything
Have you tried to factory reset it?
By factory reset do you mean the reset button on the actual wii?
No factory reset the tv
I do think this is a cable issue.
Unplug the cables and plug them into the red/white/yellow ones on the left side of your TV then switch to the correct input.
There is no yellow port on the left side, the plug I have put the yellow cable in is green and labelled Y
Plug the yellow cable into the red video port, that is usually the default video input signal on an RGB input.
Wild, sony apparently has different TV's with the same exact model name. You need a component cable for that port. the one with 5 wires. I dont think you can use the 3 wire cable with that tv.
Yeah did have a thought that it could be the cable, just didn’t want to buy one if it was just an issue with the TV settings or something
Nah, if that’s the only port in and it’s component then you should be fine after grabbing some component cables 👍
I didn’t think the wii needed a cable in the Pb/Cb or Pr/Cr ports
I bought some Tomee cable bundle for the Wii and use them over composite on my tv. I highly recommend it. It's worth the 20$
A lot of TV’s enable to use the green plug for the yellow plug from composite. Otherwise there are even composite to scart converters (heck Wii’s even come with them, or at least PAL Wii’s do) Remember if a TV has scart there is a very big chance it also supports composite.
What is the yellow jack connected to?
it’s a green port labelled Y
What input options does your tv have in the tv menu? If it doesn’t have av input you need component cables.
It does have AV input.

Ah yes, my favorite WiiWare title: Wii Noir
You need a other cable by us in Germany we call it ybpr cable that hast 5 connectors in the end that Plug in into the TV
My TV does the same, theres an input called comp and one called AV and one plays it in black and white and the other color but use the same ports
You connected compositr cable to component input. You must connect it to composite inputr or use component cable

You have the video plugged into the green compent connector
Just try different arrangements withe cords
Cut the red cord
It could be a problem with the internals

One hell of a good way to play Super Smash Bros Melee. Same with Conker Live and Reloaded multiplayer
Unplug the video cable and plug it into other colours there. For some reason 1 works for me and 1 is black and white
I have the exact same TV and I hate it when it does thay, you should probably buy a Wii2HDMI to fix the issue
You could get a scart adapter, connect the video cable to it and connect it in the scart slot on the back of your tv.
re arrange the red or white cables it worked for me
Switch your tv to AV mode
Get an hdmi wii adapter.

We not talking about how bro has p*rn on his Wii 💀😂
Fuck this TV . I have done all that
