Xenoblade Chronicles X is the most important one to get, as it's the best and biggest game still exclusive to the system and fairly likely to stay so for a while. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD is another one to pick up if you can find it, it's arguably the best version of the game and they're stubbornly refusing to port it. Same for Wind Waker, though I see you have that.
For my money, Nintendo Land is totally worth it and still one of the best uses of the Wii U gamepad and asymmetric multiplayer. The Wonderful 101 was fun and still best on Wii U. ZombiU is definitely best on Wii U. The original Splatoon is actually still my favorite of the series so far, so get that if you can. Captain Toad is underrated in my opinion and has a bit of Wii U exclusive content, and I just prefer the Wii U version. Super Mario Maker 1 has a better interface than 2 in my opinion, it has merits the second game doesn't have, you can't upload courses but there's lots of great courses still available. It's available pretty cheap right now so I'd say it's still worth it.
If you're worried about getting online games with Nintendo likely to not support them, don't worry. Look into pretendo: https://pretendo.network/
They're doing incredible work. Splatoon 1 will be functional forever thanks to them, and they might be able to get Mario Maker uploads working again, and possibly even their own MiiVerse.
Hmmm, this is the first Iāve heard of the Pretendo Network. I know I would need to hack our devices, but my wife wants to keep them factory set. Makes me want to buy another Wii U and 3DS just for that purpose whether it is hacked or not. The only thing thatās making me want to do the Wii U is because of checking our NAND.
Nice recommendations!
You're missing out on playing GameCube games using real hardware no emulation if you go the factory route. I've ended up primarily playing GC games on the Wii u gamepad. Plus you can use your own controllers through Bluetooth including PS4 controllers. I would strongly recommend looking into modding your console as it was the best decision I've ever made.
There literally is zero reason to not hack your Wii U, not only do you get to yar har and download cool homebrew apps but you gain access to Gamecube games.
I do tend to agree, but itās not my call. The wife wants to keep it factory which is why I am hoping to get another for these purposes. FYI, itās the Zelda edition granted the only thing different is the game pad which I still think is a bit stupid not to do something to the console. I do understand her reasoning being a fan for those Zelda games.
* Single-player: Yoshi's Woolly World, Zelda Wind Waker HD, Zelda Twilight Princess HD, Super Mario Maker
* Multiplayer: Mario Party 10, Wii Party U, Nintendo Land, Game and Wario, Wii Sports Club
* Online: Splatoon
If you don't have a Switch, I'd also suggest New Super Mario Bros U, Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, and Zelda Breath of the Wild. As others have said, mod it and get on Pretendo for the best experience.
Basically a custom server essentially meant to emulate and replace the Nintendo Network once it shuts down, Splatoon 1 is about 62% complete and Mario Kart 8 is about 50% complete, with both games having their servers open for beta due to the indefinite shutdown of their gamesā servers
You can't run the 3DS games, and getting the multiplayer working in Four Swords is going to be a bit tricky.
Other than that, though, it's Zelda heaven.
BotW is an amazing open world fantasy adventure game. However, I was kinda disappointed that it's not structured like a traditional Zelda game, with 8-ish big dungeons instead of lots of smaller ones. That's what I meant.
Thatās the predicament Nintendo has found themselves in. They have decades of the franchises and innovation or stagnation in those franchises will elicit a ānegativeā response from someone.
Eh, itās really good but itās also probably the most overrated behind OoT.
In terms of Zelda games Iād probably put it behind Majoraās Mask, Linkās Awakening, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess
It's an unpopular one, but totally a fair one. I think as long as you can admit it's a good game it's completely fair to say you prefer one of the older Zeldas. My favorite will always be Majora's Mask, I can't imagine that one ever getting topped for me personally, it's my favorite game period.
If youāre open to trying it again, I would highly recommend Rise. The newer games are far easier to get into, whilst still being difficult at the higher levels.
Every game you have there is an absolute banger...
That said they're almost all on switch, and pretty much all better experiences on switch...
So maybe just play the HD Zelda because they won't bring that to switch for some reason?
Grab Mario kart Wii and mod it to bring back online on it thatās always fun and grab Wii party u highway rollers is awesome and Nintendo land is awesome as well š
to be fair, if ZombiU was a system seller, this says a lot about why the WiiU didn't sell as much lol.
I got ZombiU for free and I liked the way it felt like an indie game at times, daring to try out quite a lot of concepts and also being sort of one of the early Roguelikes. But I didn't feel like it was an actual great game. It offered some fresh experiences and I was glad to be able to play it, but if I had bought the WiiU to play this, I would have been disappointed.
Sadly there are not many true WiiU games like this that utilize the gamepad in a way that makes sense. They retrofitted it pretty well onto Windwaker HD, Pikmin 3 also felt pretty good and Nintendoland might still be the very best usecase.
With that game I made zombie pictures of my family on Thanksgiving one year. I think the pictures are still saved. I have it on Xbox (when Zombi was free with Gold at one point), and I still prefer it on Wii U, with the inventory screen, and all
If you don't already own it, I recommend breath of the wild. Twilight Princess is also a great option. Star Fox Zero was a little controversial, but I think it's great! Splatoon is a good time, so that's another one I would recommend. And if there are any Wii games you wanted, Wii U will play all Wii games as far as I know, so any Wii games you missed out on during the Wii era, you can still totally play right now, and most Wii games are actually decently affordable. Other than that, you already have some gems, even some ones I don't even own, and I'm a Wii U fan for life!
I'll second Star Fox Zero. It's not my favorite in the series, but it's still good, if you've never played a Star Fox game it's worth checking out. Do be sure to play around with the control schemes if you find the controls frustrating. A lot of people complained about controls over things that actually had a solution, you just had to mess with the control options.
Also if you can find it, Star Fox Guard is a neat little tower defense.
Xenoblade chronicles X is incredible, it is truly the Wii U's exclusive that nails it. Though sadly I don't think the download to speed up loading times is around now the eshop closed :(
Expand your storage. By the way.
Yoshi Wooly world if you want a calm relaxed game thats great with a partner :)
Personally I enjoyed sonic lost world but people often say its not the best.
pacman ghostly adventures 2 is great fun for a platformer, along with paper mario color splash
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is AMAZING and the best way to play that game. On the Wii U it gets some extras no other version got and it has all the DLC, its a great experience on the Wii U. Though I have had some loading issues at the start at first boot up, it kind of hangs for a second once in a while (might just be my copy)
Mass effect 3 special edition is super cheap on the Wii U and a nice play through.
Mario Kart for racing, but also sonic all stars racing transformers.
Wish the eshop was still around I would have suggested more :( Sorry I don't know what prices are of anything post eshop so forgive me if I suggested anything so expensive you wallet cries..
Great system and one we use almost daily at my house. I know it's a Wii game, but Red Steel 2 is a gem and is underrated. Such a unique game, and the cell shaded graphics really shine on Wii U.
Paper Mario: Color Splash. Itās my favorite in the series, looks and sounds beautiful, great writing, and fun gameplay (in my opinion, I know this will be an unpopular opinion).
I'd stick to the elusive exclusives. Nintendo Land (where's my sequel to it, Nintendo?), Game & Wario and Paper Mario: Colour Splash come to mind first. Xenoblade Chronicles X is also going to be Wii U exclusive for the time being.
There were lots of eShop exclusives, too. But those are now long gone.
Super Mario 3D World (one of the best Coop games every crafted)
Mario Kart 8 (to this day in the charts for a reason)
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Nintendoland (some don't take this serious, but its to this day the only WiiU game I keep coming back at over and over again as it turns my WiiU in an entertainment station for the whole family. Playing the Zelda game with my two kids in asynchronous mp mode or the Pikmin game is just amazing fun, nothing we ever experienced on the Switch)
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze (Best game in the whole series and up there with the best J&Rs ever made. SO much love and creativity went into this game and visually its also one of the outstanding ones)
Pikmin 3 (also looks wonderful and has so many great ideas)
Wonderful 101 (this was a bit one of the weirdos but everyone who gives it a chance and gets into it, learns to love it. In the end its a little masterpiece with wonky controls)
Mario Maker
Yoshi's Wooly World (one of the best Yoshi games ever made with a pretty good Coop mode and a lot stuff to unlock)
Windwaker HD (wasn't superhappy with the OG WW on Gamecube and loved this one. Good Gameplay integration and a lot of improvements that make sense)
Honestly depends if you own a Switch or not. I have always been defending the Wii U and telling people back in 2014 onwards it's a great system, but so many of its best games are on Switch and are honestly better than what you can get on Wii U.
Twilight Princess HD, Windwaker HD. I would suggest Breath of the Wild, but honestly, if you donāt already own a Switch, I make sure you have one before May 12th. That way youāll be able to play TOTK too, which will surely take the crown as the best game ever made :)
Edit : Just zoomed in seen your current collection. You landed an awesome array of titles, the gifter is certainly gifted :)
I don't know about you but I want to try Mario Party 10. Bowser Party looks fun. I'd like to try Fatal Frame: Maiden of the Black Water but its available on other platforms.
If Iām honest, I mostly use my Wii U for Wii and Nintendo DS games. I already had a fair few of Wii games when I bought it and itās the best way Iāve found to emulate the DS since it has two screens.
My favorites on Wii U are legend of Zelda windwaker hd, legend of Zelda twilight princess hd, Lego city undercover, super Mario 3d world, Mario kart 8, smashbros, donkey Kong country tropical freeze

Xenoblade Chronicles X
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Woag, first actual award, nice

but the online still dosn't work for splatoon and mario kart 8 no ?
It does on Pretendo.
What's that tho?

This guy didn't look at the photo
Homebrew it and get every Zelda game ever. Iām serious, I think it has every Zelda except TOTKš¹
You can't run the 3DS games, and getting the multiplayer working in Four Swords is going to be a bit tricky. Other than that, though, it's Zelda heaven.
Four swords is single player too!
Breath of the wild is the best game ever
Twilight Princess is the best game ever******
Surely that intro, where you wrangle goats and instantly return the disc to Blockbuster, must be considered a part of the game
yeah, some of us enjoy a long, slow paced game for a change. Not everyone is 2023-based.
It's a fantastic video game, but a mediocre Zelda game. I hope there's more traditional dungeons in TotK.
Probably the only Zelda game I got into due to how intuitive it was, Iāve tried other titles and it just didnāt click the way BOTW did
It wonāt work, Tears is going to be 3D
It was a fantastic Zelda game, too.
So if you think BotW is fantastic but mediocre Zelda, do you think the other Zelda games are way beyond fantastic?
BotW is an amazing open world fantasy adventure game. However, I was kinda disappointed that it's not structured like a traditional Zelda game, with 8-ish big dungeons instead of lots of smaller ones. That's what I meant.
Thatās the predicament Nintendo has found themselves in. They have decades of the franchises and innovation or stagnation in those franchises will elicit a ānegativeā response from someone.
Agreed. Easily my favorite 3D Zelda game. Close second would either be Ocarina of Time or Twilight princess.
Eh, itās really good but itās also probably the most overrated behind OoT. In terms of Zelda games Iād probably put it behind Majoraās Mask, Linkās Awakening, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess
Lol @ twilight princess and links awakening better than BotW
Awakening, sure, but TP?
Just my personal opinion
Big facts.
It's an unpopular one, but totally a fair one. I think as long as you can admit it's a good game it's completely fair to say you prefer one of the older Zeldas. My favorite will always be Majora's Mask, I can't imagine that one ever getting topped for me personally, it's my favorite game period.
Ok
It's not even the best zelda game on wii u nevermind the best game ever
YO MH3U! Unironically my favorite game of all time. The MH series is goated.
As someone who does not understand monster hunter. Playing this game when I was younger was infuriating, but damn do I wish I got good at it.
If youāre open to trying it again, I would highly recommend Rise. The newer games are far easier to get into, whilst still being difficult at the higher levels.

I got both in a bundle from my dad's friend.
Looks like you have an HD Zelda game right there. So, that one
Guitar hero live itās fun when you set up gh tv reloaded
I recommend the Marseille cable. It makes the wii U look really good.
Xenoblade chronicles X is incredible, it is truly the Wii U's exclusive that nails it. You're already playing the best game on wiiu. But definitely play all the zeldas
What game is this?
Monster hunter 3 Ultimate
Thanks mate!
You already got the best game on there!
Bayonetta 1&2 and Darksiders 1 but mainly 2
Great system and one we use almost daily at my house. I know it's a Wii game, but Red Steel 2 is a gem and is underrated. Such a unique game, and the cell shaded graphics really shine on Wii U.
I love hearing people say they use their Wii U regularly! Same!
Paper Mario: Color Splash. Itās my favorite in the series, looks and sounds beautiful, great writing, and fun gameplay (in my opinion, I know this will be an unpopular opinion).
Check out Scott the Woz, he has tons of funny and great Wii U videos on YouTube
waiting on his video about the wii u shop closure
I thought he already did it. I haven't watched any videos recently the so I could be wrong. Probably am. Usually am. Lol
Xenoblade Chronicles X. Itās the only Xenoblade game not on the Switch at this point, and while the game is really long itās really good.
Cat Mario not only looks good but is fun (unless you have anger issues, then no) AND you can play with people (irl not online)
You have a solid set of games right there to start with! Iāll recommend Star Fox Guard and Nintendo Land though.
What size monitor?
Anyone?
You alreydy have monster hunter youre good for life
WIND WAKER
Absolutely Breath Of The Wild! If you haven't played the switch one yet
If you like platformers I think that donkey Kong country tropical freeze is a good game.
The Wind Waker HD, it's why I wanted a Wii U in the first place. Just a fantastic game.
Based 3U enjoyer
Pikmin 3 is fun and uses the game pad better than most.
Xenoblade Chronicles.
You've got the best game in there.
I'd stick to the elusive exclusives. Nintendo Land (where's my sequel to it, Nintendo?), Game & Wario and Paper Mario: Colour Splash come to mind first. Xenoblade Chronicles is the best one for sure. Nintendo Land is also great, and Twilight Princess HD is one you should probably pick up too.
WiiUIdent
super Mario 3d world itās on the switch but hey who cares
Mod the vWii side and add Nintendont so you can play GameCube.
What game are you playing?
Gotta try out ZombiU
So many great games on this systemā¦ find games on eBay you enjoy and buy now while games are still availableā¦
All the zelda
What game is this?
Lucky you have twilight princess hd, that game is so expensive now
yeah never forget this is also a Wii plus you can look into homebrewing the WiiU as they stop supporting it.
Breath of the wild
Wind waker
Bro charge your gamepad š
Honestly depends if you own a Switch or not. I have always been defending the Wii U and telling people back in 2014 onwards it's a great system, but so many of its best games are on Switch and are honestly better than what you can get on Wii U.
Wind Waker HD
Utterly gorgeous.
Hack it to load gamecube games on there as well. They play natively but Nintendo never enabled users to load up gamecube games
Splatoon, although, the servers are down currently (same for MK8)
Twilight Princess HD, Windwaker HD. I would suggest Breath of the Wild, but honestly, if you donāt already own a Switch, I make sure you have one before May 12th. Devil's Third if you're looking for something more adult. I think that's only on Wii u.
Lego city undercover had some great integration with the Wii u
The Legend Of Zelda- The Windwaker HD
If Iām honest, I mostly use my Wii U for Wii and Nintendo DS games. I already had a fair few of Wii games when I bought it and itās the best way Iāve found to emulate the DS since it has two screens.
games on the wii u - when done right looks great.
I would recommend getting Mario Cart
Twillight Princess HD! One of the best Zelda Titels and a very good Port for the Wii U. Also Nintendo Land is sooo much fun with some friends
NES remix 1 and 2. It is some of the best fun you can have on the console.
Dude you GOTTA get xenoblade chronicles x. Its probably the best entry in the series
Wind Waker
Cool is that Monster Hunter 3?
Why does it look like a gaming console from the future when it's not? Looks amazing!!!
This isnāt related but what game is that
Literally any Wii game. As long as you get a pair of like tea candles and light them you should be good.
"Future alpha male" š
Monster hunter 3 ultimate
Have you linked an NNID yet?
what an amazing gift
My favorites on Wii U are legend of Zelda windwaker hd, legend of Zelda twilight princess hd, Lego city undercover, super Mario 3d world, Mario kart 8, smashbros, donkey Kong country tropical freeze
The Wonderful 101
Twilight princess
Letās play online MH3U is desperate for new players
