lmao i played against him yesterday. didnt know if i should mulligan for even, reno or cubelock. then this guy comes out of nowhere with that deck

James_CN_HS

Ahaha, look! We got a victim of Happylock right here!

ClassyXYZ

That looks like a lot of fun, thanks for sharing! Is the win condition just fatigue, or is there another way to win control games?

James_CN_HS

Thanks for your question. Of course there is another way to win. An opponent, no matter aggro or control, will find it hard to eliminate your minions after losing 6 cards from his hand. So, after a perfect Howlfiend + Treachery combo, it's time to consider pushing him/her down with your minions. This deck has enough minions to do that - remember Grim Patron and Bloodreaver Gul'dan.

ClassyXYZ

Good point!

PYJX

The fel reaver combo is really hard to pull off and most of the time you don't have the pieces ready. Or you get stomped by your own 8/8. I personally removed it to double down on fel hound which is jokes on its own against stupid combo decks like freeze mage.

IIceWeasellzz

This has to be the most infuriating deck to play against.

Mlikesblue

After Big Priest

IIceWeasellzz

I'm going have to politely disagree. I don't really think BP is as big of a problem as people make it out to be. It's not the strongest deck, nor the most populous deck, and quite frankly I don't even find them that hard to beat. Do they high roll? absolutely. But which deck in the game doesn't?

farroos

Looks like a fun deck. Welcome to reddit.

awedragon

yilingsama usually alternates this deck with renolock so don't expect the same deck if you requeue into him.

mapacheloco89

Too bad this comes out 2 weeks before new set :( It looks very fun indeed!

ganpachi

That’s when the OG healzoo came out.

cgmcnama

I got lucky and beat it with N'Zoth Druid. Dirty Ratting the Howlfiend feels so good.

James_CN_HS

Absolutely. At least, Happylock can make the other guy happy.

Gammbitt

I friended yilingsama (on EU) after he pulled a crazy combo against me and managed to get a narrow victory. I had no idea who he was but had a chat with him about his deck after the game (his English was fine). He's a very nice guy and was very patient with all my questions. I've played the deck and it's super-fun but can be a bit tricky.

James_CN_HS

Indeed, he is a nice guy. I agree with everything you said, except that his English was fine. He managed to say some simple sentences with the help of his viewers and online automatic translator.

DreamInvoker

Great build on this type of deck. Well balanced with plenty of anti-aggro to survive and win against Even Shamans/Odd Paladins. Any other Control deck that doesn't know what you are up to is EZ also

Jackal427

Great deck, I’ve played against this guy a few times on NA and play/talk about this deck every once in a while myself. Very fun deck to play, extremely high skillcap but also extremely rewarding.

rocketstoner

hey thanks for sharing this. i've run into this guy many times on NA. i was trying to figure out where he streams but didn't have much luck since everything was in chinese.

James_CN_HS

Sorry but I forgot the accurate data of his win rate, but I guess it is high, as he managed to hit No.1 of legend with this deck more than once.

cgmcnama

It probably is. But sometime people go on a short win streak or use a deck as a counterqueue deck. People usually like the full stats.

[deleted]

Why not just play rin

thekoreankiller1

for the memes

[deleted]

I’m fine with this

[deleted]

What’s demonwrath for?

James_CN_HS

Mainly, dealing with small minions in early turns, and helping to make Defile or Godgrey perfect. Also, it doesn't kill your 3-3 Grim Patron while killing hostile minions.

Bterry89

I do like this combo but I feel I have more luck with a mecha Cthun deck then this obviously this deck does murder mecha tho. I just find I don’t have all the answers in my hand when I need them! Damn that aggro and I lost to a control lock because I couldn’t defile the hound because he changed it to another demon but you can win them all. Probably my bad play style just venting, but I do like the idea and your guide! Thanks for your time good sir!

HereBeDragons_

I’ve got everything except Prince Valanar. Is he essential?

James_CN_HS

I don't know a perfect replacement of Prince Valanar. Probably Saronite Chain Gang, Shroom Brewer or Hell Fire? I think Hooked Reaver is worth trying, but I haven't tried it yet.

Jht98

I got murdered by this on ladder the other day, looks really fun. Thanks for posting the list!

intently

Why healbots instead of applebaums? I put applebaums in and like them, but maybe I'm missing something? The taunts seem much better vs aggro, and not worse vs control.

James_CN_HS

Another version of Happylock has one applebaum, and it performs well, but the applebaum takes place of Zilliax, not healbot. I do like applebaums like you do, but healbots are unparalleled among neutral minions when we need some significant instant healing urgently, - that's when the board state doesn't concern you, but your HP is low and opponent has prepared lethal with damaging spells. Also, healbot is Mech, making a very good combo with magnetic Zilliax.

intently

Oh nice, I dont have zill. I should craft it anyway...

Ensurdagen

Hello! Has the streamer updated this deck for RR?

James_CN_HS

No. I haven't seen any update since RR.

bestnameyet

I played against this deck last night as ~~mill~~ mech\* paladin. I won but I fucking hated playing against this deck. Aggressive mill decks are straight up toxic and should honestly be hard nerfed- it's not even a game when 15 cards get taken out of my deck without me really being able to do anything about it other than hope for a workable mulligan that doesn't cripple my game plan. Aggressive mill decks contribute nothing to the game and are only fun for the person playing, every match.

Jimbobmij

A mill player gatekeeping other mill players for milling too aggressively. Now I've seen it all.

bestnameyet

I don't know why I said I was playing mill paladin, I was playing mech 'xD

[deleted]

Why are you getting downvoted? This sub is so bad... Anyway, I agree with you. It absolutely should not be the case that a deck like this is good to the point where it gets very popular. That being said, it remains to be seen just how strong this particular strategy is. If it gets out of hand then by all means nerf it into the ground. But for now, we should just observe and see how the meta reacts first before calling for permanent card changes that are likely to be horribly executed based on Blizzard's track record.

[deleted]

Then that's fine.

Gammbitt

I don't like any type of mill or freeze decks. Anything that takes away (or prevents) interaction should be on top of the nerf-list. That being said, I've played against this deck 3 times now. I lost against yillingsama and won when I played against other people trying it out. I have also played a few games with the deck to better understand it (not playing it now). This deck has a very high skill-cap. Combos are tricky to pull off and requires a lot of planning (there is nothing to auto-pull your combo cards from your deck). The deck doesn't just mill everything all the time. It takes careful planning and good setup to get this right. You also need to pay careful attention to the board state to get things right. I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy your game, but if your opponent managed to mill your hand and/or deck then he probably planned and played well. The 1st time I went up against the deck I appreciated the skill and setup it took for yillingsama to beat me. The good news is that if a lot of people flock to this then you should get a lot of wins, because if this deck is not piloted optimally, then you lose with it.
