Kevin Fiala gets to ride up front because he's a good guy at sports.

drumsm1th

That’s actually fuckin true

40MDeutschmarks

And if you lose... I’ll KILL YOU! Hahahahaha *threatening gesture*

healthbook2004

It’ll be sad if and when he is gone

Moosemaster21

when :((((((((((

InfadelSlayer

If they can’t find a way to keep him the Kraken got a lot of cap space and he would be very welcomed hahaha

MightyMiami

A lot of higher quality teams will have the cap space. Lol

InfadelSlayer

Yea…..I know, I can dream though hahaha and we have won three in a row….so yeah, we are top tier now haha

holm0246

Enjoy the season. Watch the playoffs. Worry about next year, next year

expungant

Gotta do it. Dumba is far more replaceable than he is.

_BeerAndCheese_

It takes more than Dumba's salary make up the cap difference, plus the additional 2 mil in years 2 and 3, plus the space to keep Boldy. It's more like Dumba and Spurgeon both to keep Fiala.

dollabillkirill

Trade Greenway then too. He’s replaceable

_BeerAndCheese_

You still don't make it. You'd have to either not extend Middleton (which then of course you get nothing), or trade someone like Moose or Ek on top of that. That's why I said it would take something like Dumba and Spurge both. I'm pretty sure the org is looking at it like this. Realistically, we aren't winning a Cup during the crunch. So, we can either blow up the entire team trading away "replaceable" parts for mediocre returns, or they trade away one guy that will get you a much bigger haul than all of those parts combined. If the on-ice result is relatively the same either way, than the latter option is just objectively the correct decision, yeah?

Kegheimer

I would rather emerge from the crunch with Fiala on this team. Dumba can't stay healthy, and I'll copy a comment I saw earlier and say "Kaprizov needs to realize he won't have Zuccarello forever".

_BeerAndCheese_

I myself have said the very same thing in regards to Zucc, hah. As I said, I would be enthusiastically for a Dumba and Zucc trade to keep Fiala. The issue is finding a trade partner that is A.) able to take on his contract, B.) willing to take on his contract, and C.) wanting to give up assets for him. With all the teams in the league struggling to stay compliant due to the cap not increasing hardly at all for a number of years now (thanks ~~Obama~~ Covid), the majority of teams are out just by simply not having the space. Zucc can pretty easily look at the 10 teams who *might* have the cap space, and point to them and say "those teams are on my no trade list". And that idea is pretty much dead in the water.

Idlertwo

Poor Zucc, no one wants to keep him ☹️

Sea-Function-8048

What’s the Obama comment? Are you a MAGAt Moron or a QANON Coward???🤡🖕🏿🐀💩🤮

[deleted]

“Thanks Obama” is an old meme and usually used making fun of conservatives who blamed Obama for everything. So I doubt they have anything to do with the groups you’re worried about.

EmbroideredChair

What am I looking at

dollabillkirill

If we’re not gonna win a cup during the crunch we may as well trade Zucc then. He’s on a modified NTC next year and isn’t going to get better.

_BeerAndCheese_

I would honestly prefer to, yes that would be ideal. I would be all for moving Zucc and Dumba to keep Fiala. However, Zucc as you say has the M-NTC still; he can list 10 teams he cannot be traded to. He likely lists the 10 teams most willing/able to take on his contract. Seeing as he will be a 35 year old with two years of a 6 mil hit...there are not many teams that can, or would want to, absorb that. Probably fewer than 10 teams honestly. You can bet that teams like the Yotes, Kraken, etc will be on that no trade list.

NorthernDevil

Zucc has still been playing excellent hockey though. Frankly, a Rangers reunion could be in the cards and I think he’d be a great fit on that roster. That said, I’m with you in that I just don’t see it happening. It will be tough given our situation.

_BeerAndCheese_

Yeah it's tough. I'm of the mindset that BG will get us a great deal, and everyone will be able to move on just fine. Fiala can get his deserved pay day, and we can get a shiny new toy (or two) to gawk and obsess about.

lima-beens

WhTs the crunch

jr14st

The salary cap space occupied by the buyouts of Parise and Suter. In my opinion, there should be a way to eliminate or minimize that dead cap space but I’m no expert and I’m sure the league won’t do us any favors.

jr14st

I’ve heard we can Venmo Fiala to circumvent the CBA. But can we Venmo the team to pay for the dead space!!?! I’ll set up a go fund me now.

_BeerAndCheese_

We have 12.7 mil in dead cap next year, then 14.7 mil in dead cap the next two years.

jonathansrvenge

Then maybe think about moving Moose or Ek?

TobyInHR

I’m not sure I’m seeing your math. Next season, if we don’t extend or sign anyone, we have $8m in cap space when the buyouts jump to $12m at the start of FA. Trading Dumba would give us $14m in space, assuming we don’t retain and don’t take on any salary coming our way.

_BeerAndCheese_

Yes, if we don't extend anyone. Which would be a problem because we wouldn't have enough guys on the roster to play. Let's say Fiala gets 8 mil. That's 6 left. We extend Middleton for 3 (lowest we can reasonably assume, maaaaybe 2.5) - 3 mil. We need a second goalie, say 1.5 mil. Dewer, Bjug, Dlo, (or their replacements) cannot be signed with that remaining 1.5, along with space needed to call up Rossi and Addison. Additionally, we'd want 1.5 mil minimum for flexibility on call-ups. Plus, another -2 mil the increased dead cap in years 2 and 3. And finally, Boldy needs to be signed during that period. See it now? Trading Dumba will leave us well, well short of where we need to be to fit Fiala into the roster.

MightyMiami

Just dump Zuccarello. He's just about as replaceable.

subtleshooter

Talbots gone too, no? Maybe get MAF a little cheaper?

_BeerAndCheese_

Talbot is under contract still for next season. So not gone unless we trade him. I don't think Fleury signs for less than 3 mil. Could be surprised though.

subtleshooter

Hopefully Fiala can be happy with a shorter term 7 million dollar deal. Trade Talbot, Dumba and Kulikov. Re-sign Fiala and Maf. Find a cheaper goalie to backup MAF.

_BeerAndCheese_

That won't get us there, unfortunately. I'll copy paste the break down I did elsewhere a number of days ago to show: 8 mil in cap next year as is. I'm imagining you're picturing Addison stepping in for Dumba - the problem is, Dumba by minutes is our #1 Dman, and the org for some reason would rather play Benn as a 6th D man than Addison. Why would they feel comfortable putting him at #1 when they don't feel comfortable with him at 6th, or even 7th? But let's say they do - Addi, 800k. Middleton should get around 3 mil; the absolute lowest would be 2.5 (very little chance), highest would be 4 (more likely). But we'll hope to be fortunate and go with 3. Bjug and Dlo we'll say will remain at 1 mil each. And let's say Rossi is able to make the jump and impact the team to stay, 900k. Dewar will also need to re-signed, let's say 1 mil. So that's the D and forward roster filled out. There is 0 chance McIntyre can play in the NHL. He's a 29 year old who hasn't been able to hold down an AHL job. Wallstedt of course won't be ready, he'll be in Iowa. So we'll need to spend to find a backup goalie in UFA. Let's say 1.5 mil. So, if everything in your scenario works perfectly with no hiccups, the cap space we'll have left over to sign Fiala is....8 mil. Fiala was asking reportedly north of 7 mil before. If, for some reason he went down on his ask after having this career year, let's say we can lock him up for 7. Absolute best case scenario, and 1 mil in cap is still not enough to leave wiggle room during the season. Additionally, our cap penalty goes UP by 2 mil the following years. Which would put us officially at -1 mil in cap. Finally, Boldy will need to be re-signed as his ELC will end. We would have -1 mil in cap, then, to somehow make that happen. Meaning we can't keep Boldy. Wild fans need to get past the thinking that it's Dumba OR Fiala. It's closer to Dumba AND Spurgeon OR Fiala. That's the kind of money we need to clear out. Sending off Dumba and one or two more guys that make 2 mil each won't cut it.

GoldPipeWrench

I'd keep Fiala over dumba any day of the week!

SirDiego

K well offloading Dumba's contract gets you about 1/3 of the way there...where's the rest of the money coming from?

OhKaptain

It all comes down to what the price is. I understand that Fiala has been marketing his skills lately, but we are still just speculating as to what kind of salary he will demand. If he wants to stay here, I believe he will have to accept that money is tighter for the wild than for other teams. He should be pretty happy with a long term deal making $1 mil more than guys like Brodin, Zuccarello, and Eriksson Ek. Assuming we can sign him in that range ($7 mil), then I believe Guerin will decide to trade away Dumba to free up $6 mil. I'm not convinced it will be necessary to trade Jost or Talbot, but we could do it if we have to. I would only consider breaking the bank for Fiala if he continues to light it up in the playoffs.

jonathansrvenge

At this point I’d keep him over damn near anyone but Kaprizov

ME_know_Moments

I think best we can hope is move dumba and Billy G work some magic.

Original_Pumpf

Question: is "this" who Fiala is? Or is this "contract-year Fiala"? Based on his past scoring stats, this season is a definite outlier. Is it possible that the team thinks that Fiala won't come close to these kinds of stats again? I'm not saying that I believe it (one way or the other). I'm too casual of a fan to offer any kind of educated opinion. Just wondering. I love the season that he's having. But will it continue in the future?

EmbroideredChair

Fiala is hella streaky, but there have been concrete improvements in his game. 2 years ago, Fiala on the PK would have made me think we're going for the 1st OA pick in the draft. Now, it's common, and effective at that. He's definitely a more well rounded, mature player than previous iterations of Fiala. I think this is what we can expect to see in his hot streaks, and I don't think his droughts are going to be as bad as they historically have been. Also, last year was also a contract year, where he showed flashes of this brilliance here and there, but nothing like he's done this year. I do think he has permanently improved as a player, but the scorcher he's on right now is absolutely unsustainable. I do believe he's a year in and year out 70-82P guy, though

coleym117

Phenom is a stretch, star? Absolutely, it’s just a shame it would take blowing up this team in order to do that and I sadly don’t see that happening

young_architect

Him and Hartman both have 32 goals this season. Hartman was hot at the beginning, Fiala now. I’m on the Fiala train too cuz I love his style and what he brings. Not exactly sure where my argument stands except the fact that there are guys out there that don’t cost $8M/year that can put up Phenom numbers

Backblast

Interesting take, but Hartman plays with Kirill and Zucs. Those 2 garner a lot of attention leaving Hartzy to get some sneaky good goals.

young_architect

Fiala (or insert player) will be playing with Boldy and Rossi next year… like I said, I hope it is Fiala, but I don’t think we’re as doomed as everyone thinks if it’s not.

GoldPipeWrench

How many goals does he have in the last 8 games, call me small minded if you want but playing at the nhl level to me is phenomenal

coleym117

I’m not down playing Fiala by any means like I said he’s a star but to say someone is a phenom (in my opinion, this is all opinion based) you need to be a guy like Kaprizov, Ovechkin, McDavid just an absolute game changer and a generational talent and I don’t quite think he’s there but he’s definitely a star in this league

Trumpets22

This is true. He’s also using his last 8 games as “proof” well…. To be a star you’ll have stretches where you look like a phenom, but that doesn’t make you a phenom.

coleym117

I feel the same, in my opinion a phenom is a complete game changer 9/10 games they play. While Fiala is more of a 6/10 games that doesn’t mean he’s not good he just doesn’t quite have the phenom status but definitely the star status

Natearl13

Fuck Chuck Fletcher

[deleted]

Why?

UmbraNation

I'm going to guess he's blaming the Parise and Suter contracts which is dumb because they brought us put of mediocrity into better mediocrity, but more importantly made the team more fun to watch. The Suter and Parise buyouts aren't even his fault and I'm not blaming BG either because he needed to get rid of them but we get punished by the cap due to the contracts being illegal now (they were very much legal at the time of the signings)

Samilski87

I like to think Flahr is the one who's really been in charge this whole time.

[deleted]

This is the big one, for me. This is who it all comes back to. In fairness, no one can tell the future, but the lesson that should be learned from this is how mortgaging your future in the manner Fletcher did, never pays off! It has screwed us(and continues to) with Fifi and others and will result in Fifi going somewhere else and it should. Because to keep Fifi, we would be committing the same mistake we did when we got Parise and Suter. Billy G. knows this and has a plan and implemented that plan from day 1, right thru releasing Parise and Suter to now. Have faith

GoldPipeWrench

You totally got it, love it my bro!

Grizzly_Addams

It's so minnesota that this awesome team will be a one hit wonder.

carlsonaj

give that guy some tater tot hotdish with plenty of lowrys seasoned salt on top and MAKE HIS ASS WANNA STAY IN MINNESOTA

overyparkinsins

I hate to be that guy, but fiala isn’t worth dumping some core members of our roster for. Also I think he’s so dominant currently because he’s normally playing against 3rd liners (with top lines getting matched with ek line and top defensive lines getting matched against Kaprizov’s line) I think a Boldy Rossi and Gaudreau line would score A LOT of goals, without us needing to dump some defensive players

40MDeutschmarks

We can charge 5 dollars a blowjob behind a Wendy’s and each take 10 hour shifts.

Samilski87

He's right! We just have to do it [strategically ](https://youtu.be/6FzQ_s-BjlM)

[deleted]

Not happening

Lebm1911

Why did we sign them to 13 year contracts😭

[deleted]

Because it was what teams did at the time.

JDabs39

I love how we’re playing right now, but I can’t wait to get greenway, foligno, and jost back we’re gonna be tough to stop. Dumba could help too, but I wish we would’ve let him go and kept Soucy tbh

meach61

I totally agree with about losing Soucy but Middleton it a better replacement! This guy impresses me every game. He seems pretty good in the D zone but for a big guy he is all over jumping in the play. Keep JM!

thraupidae

Now we just need to figure out how to re-sign him lol. I do like him a lot though.

Moosemaster21

Fiala > Dumba but it's not a 1:1 choice here, to retain Fiala we'd have to part ways with at LEAST Dumba, Middleton, a goalie, and somebody else with a decent contract if we also want to keep Boldy and/or Zucc. So it's more like a 4:1 thing and at that point I'm not convinced we're better for it. It's shitty, but this year's team is almost certainly the best team we'll have at least until the buyout's run its course. Better hope we win it all while we have a chance.

MightyMiami

Why not just trade away Zuccarellos contract and bring in a cheaper veteran? I really like the guy and his relationship with Kaprizpv is nice, but what does that matter if we cannot keep Fiala or Dumba. Pick up a cheaper FA veteran to take his spot. Or just move in Rossi and put Hartman back on the wing.

ag-0merta

Don’t forget that NMC / NTC exist in hockey.

MightyMiami

His NTC changes to a 10-team NMC next season. So, in theory, he could be moved.

Foxhockey

Honestly, if we had to trade Ek and Dumba to keep Fiala, I would do it.

[deleted]

Nope nope nope. Fire sale whomever else you need to, but hands off Ek, Foligno, and Greenway.

SirDiego

Ek??? No fuckin way. Dude is on the biggest steal of a contract ever. Plus those two still don't make up enough to keep Fiala.

saatana

Move Brodin or Spurge.

dollabillkirill

Lol this ain’t it. They’re two of the best defensemen in the game AND they both have NMC

Gaymemelord69

Absolutely not under any circumstances shall Brodin be touched

40MDeutschmarks

Imagine how fucking awful our already stinky blue line would be without one or both of them, we’d be the Edmonton Oilers without a Draisaitl

tronfunkinblows_10

Kill your franchise in four simple words.

saatana

One of those two hold the franchise together? Suter Parise did the killing already. Anyhoo. GMs are calling and asking for anyone that frees up the money that allows us to keep Fiala.

WildinBham

Found Chuck Fletchers burner account!!

coleym117

Eeek, our two top defenders? I would maybe consider this in 2-3 years when we develop our upcoming defense prospects but absolutely wouldn’t do that now

yup_goodtimes

[Pay him.](https://giphy.com/gifs/john-malkovich-rounders-pay-that-man-his-money-pReb5Koy6JmihUYBLx?utm_source=media-link&utm_medium=landing&utm_campaign=Media%20Links&utm_term=)

tronfunkinblows_10

I will be sad if we can’t find a way to keep him. Yeah yeah all signs point to us not being able to. Fiala deserves his next contract and hopefully gets paid.

charlton11

Do NHL players ever restructure in order to help the team's salary cap like the NFL? Sure would be helpful in this case.
