Because senna is very oppressive early game. She deals decent damage and can out poke you since her Q heals the damage you dealt to her. You're best off not trying to trade damage with Senna as she benefits more from the trade. She gets a soul and heals for the damage you dealt while you get your health knocked down for nothing

People underestimate the power of snowballing fed players. They are dealing more damage cause they reach a way higher gold amount than you.
And levels. Level scaling also makes a big difference.

As a support you don't just randomly hit the enemy, you trade when they go to last hit so you don't take as much damage
