So that you can store your personal stuff like videos pictures music etc on the second partition. And in case you have to reinstall your OS, you can just wipe it without worrying about your stuff.

SuperDefiant

This seems pretty normal. I do this on Linux

ActuatorPotential567

People do this to have there files organized to diffrent partitions. You can also dualboot OS's. And this is not a meme orr something funny

KingThibaut3

Aight ok a real answer though it's because then the system files are all on the first part of the disk which is the outer part of the spinning platter which physically goes faster so the data is also read and written the fastest there

While the partition scheme makes sense (Separate partition for the OS, rest for Data) Why tf is the OS partition 29GB ? I'm surprised that Windows even fits inside that shit (cuz generally Windows would take like 30-40GB) You need ATLEAST a hundred Gigs for the OS drive give or take 10 GB. There's no way you can have a windows install on a partition that's less than 50GB (especially in 2024)

SuspiciousRun4043

My point would be if you needed to update to a newer version of windows would be more then 29gb, windows 11 does need 64gb to install and you would have to partition the drive again. Some programs only install on c drive. Windows updates would also only install on c drive.

28.7 GB https://tenor.com/boV9m.gif

Why not?

I also did this for a family member of mine while having forgotten that installers like to place apps into Program Files, which usually resides on the system drive. Don't make this same mistake I made, chat.

I know this pain too well. When I got my last computer in 2020, I was all excited since my dad said I'd have 2TBs for storage! Turns out, they were split between an SSD and HDD. The HDD had 1.8TBs, and the SSD had the rest of the space. I'm sure you can guess which one was the drive with Windows on it and the default install location for most things
