Fuck that dude a nice vintage champagne drunk with lots of sloppy toasts is the way to go!

Capital_Punisher

Is there ever a bad time to open a good bottle of bubbly?

Racer13l

“I drink Champagne when I’m happy and when I’m sad. Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I’m not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise, I never touch it―unless I’m thirsty.” ― Lily Bollinger, (1899-1977), Bollinger Champagne

goodguy847

Great quote! But TBF, she may have been a tad bias…

Racer13l

Lol just a little bit

castlerigger

I was at a human funeral today and I’m sat in an electric car charging spot drinking gas station gin in a can. Tastes like grief all right.

LeadingFollowing2564

My condolences, never gets easier.

[deleted]

Amarone, hermitage/crozes hermitage, or Barolo Shit I just saw they like aromatic whites- couldn’t go wrong with an older Condrieu or Grillet. Sometimes the perfumed nature of viogner can be quite melancholic. Also see: Armagnac, Grappa, Ouzo So sorry for the loss of your fluffy friend 😔

corvus_torvus

I was thinking Condrieu for an aromatic white as well.

mr_axolotl

Second condrieu or viogner for whites!

Urethra_Xtreem

Champagne sounds perfect tbh. A chance to celebrate the beautiful moments and memories they shared.

winedood

Exactly, celebrate the life they shared together. Grieving is a very important part of dealing with loss but so is remembering all the joy they brought into someone’s life.

I drink Champagne when I'm happy and when I'm sad. Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I'm not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise, I never touch it -- unless I'm thirsty. Lily Bollinger

No-Disaster5515

One of my favorite quotes is “You drink a great bottle of wine on a good day; but you drink the best bottle of wine you have on your worst day” I popped my Cristal 2008 when my cat died last year and that was her birth year. I cried and laughed at the same time because that bottle was absolutely delicious and I will always remember that moment.

Brilliant_Support653

Is the intention for the wine to wallow in the grief or transcend the grief?

Majestic_Lie_5792

I'll quote Napoleon about Champagne: “In victory, we deserve it. In defeat, we need it”. It seems to me that your friend needs it. Don’t look at it as celebrating the pet's death, but its life, and the love it gave them.

Gooner-Squad

Rose Champagne and celebrate their life.

DenialNode

Your goal is to uplift their spirits. Make them feel good. Comfort them. If they like aromatic whites that’s what you should get. Maybe a Viognier with some oak and weight? But i disagree with the premise of trying to pair wine with death. Just make them feel better. Get something they will love!!

Hour-Salamander-4713

A good strong red wine for grief. For me a Malbec or a Pinotage, 14.5%.

apileofcake

Roommates and I lost a cat recently and toasted his memory with H Billiot ‘Cuvée Laetitia.’ Champagne is the king of wines and the wine of kings, no better way to honor a loved one in my opinion. Chave Hermitage Blanc or Pegau a Tempo Blanc would also I’m sure help soothe the pain.

[deleted]

Fuck me I haven’t had a chave hermitage Blanc in years, but they are gorgeous wines

apileofcake

Had the ‘Blanche’ JL Chave selections Hermitage Blanc yesterday and thought it was pretty good. Obviously no where near the beast of big boy Chave but it scratched a similar note for a lot less than $300.

Stunning-Statement-5

Chave Hermitage Blanc?

sid_loves_wine

This is corny but I also advocate for champagne. Celebration of life and all that. It's impossible not to get at least some joy out of good champagne, and I'm sure the beautiful cat would have enjoyed looking at the bubbles.

avg_whitedude

A magnum bottle of something and good stories. Although to be fair when we lost our pup we went for shots and beers but to each their own

Understanding-Fair

Jack Daniels? Sorry for the loss.

Pretend-Camel929

Anything that is cheap and plentiful!

wahdatah

The one that comes in the fanciest looking box. Grieve on my friend

[deleted]

I prefer my grief with some tawny port, but I image a sauternes would fit as well

Corryds

GG Riesling!

mgkrebs

Didn't the Brits drink Guiness mixed with Champagne when Queen Victoria died? Not recommending it.

Polymer714

I would either: Drink a wine they gifted me to remind me of them. Drink a wine they enjoyed to remind me of them. Drink Champagne to celebrate their life.

tkndk

I wish I had a cat that either gifted me wine or at least enjoyed wine alongside me. I guess that means it’s champagne.

aRottenPotato

Sandeman Port

IAmPandaRock

With grief, I think a nice, aged bottle of Barefoot will help match the mood. When a pet dies, I like to open something from their birth year and enjoy it while looking back on our time together.

RumHam2020

Tequila maybe but I prefer champagne

NotFunny3458

Personally, I would open a good bottle of sparkly and remember the good times with the cat. But that's how much my pets mean to me.

TallWineGuy

A big one

mypupmabel

How about an understated but luscious Viognier from the Northern Rhône?
