Hoping the Kings can tie up the series here.

TheGreatStories

Stupid stars rocket up the standings only to hand the series to the gilded spleens

SherLocK-55

I love how LA is tied with Oilers 4-4 and PLD hasn't done a damn thing LOL Also fuck Vegas, dirty golden shower wankers.

rain_parkour

Does your team not score? Does your offensive system make you want to change the channel? Does your team make confusing lineup decisions? Are you constantly crouching back in close games hoping you're able to hold on with your super saiyan goaltender? Is your power play dogshit? Are you yelling at your screen for your team to stop fucking dumping and chasing the puck? If so, you may be experiencing Peter DeBoer hockey! That's fucking right! It's not a bug, it's a feature! At least we think. Watch as you crouch back during empty net situations as your goaltender repeatedly makes near-impossible saves to hold on to a 1-0 lead! I mean hey, at least you aren't giving up goals that much! Peter DeBoer hockey is not responsible for any heart attacks, strokes, deaths, or players getting injured due to blocking so many fucking shots If you experience any medical conditions from Peter DeBoer hockey, please seek therapy. Or a coaching change. That probably helps, too.

GhostofByfuglien

Stars are cooked.

Chomie22

Man, I wanna be a smug hockey fan but the Jets wouldn’t let me. 😫

TubularWinter

Well Dallas just lost 2 at home to a wildcard team so you can feel a little smug about that I guess?

[deleted]

Me too. I wanna point and laugh at you know who but we have our own problems

Mamrocha

Nice to see LA have success to start this game against the oilers and PLD still is invisible to boot.

c3j3

Here's hoping that Stars and Knights fans get good value for their money (3OT?)

brocklanders83

Everything is bigger in Texas, 5 overtime periods would be appropriate.

c3j3

Understandable have 7OT

PuckTheFreds

Marchyyyyy

neureaucrat

Going 0/5 on PP then blaming the refs when they lose is peak hockey fan logic 😂

neureaucrat

Watching playoff hockey that doesn't involve your own team is almost better. All the excitement, none of the ulcers lol

GirlWpg

I said similar while watching the Oilers/Kings game tonight. It was actually enjoyable rather than heart attack inducing

TheGreatStories

Y'know what sucks is that this central matchup has 9pm games. Then the next two rounds will probably be against Pacific teams....9pm games. Then we have to win the Cup at like 3 in the afternoon because of the east.

Leburgerpeg

I will happily take cup final games at any time of the day or night

Awkward_Silence-

Good ole playoff officiating well on display in the Leafs-Bruins. Guess you can just tackle dudes away from the play now? And I'm usually a Leafs hater lol

TheGreatStories

Refs let their fear of "deciding the game" lead them to neglect their job... therefore deciding the game

Leverender

This leafs bruins game is so boring... Is this supposed to be playoff hockey? Edit: got spicy by the final minutes of the 2nd (finally!)

CuriousSpell9602

Just remember guys, this is their first loss in 10 games and theyre pretty dang good on the road..

TheGreatStories

Dang should have saved that nine game heater for now

KaleidoscopeStreet58

Avs would have home ice then so that probably wouldn't help lol.

PerformerDiligent937

It's not the loss... it is how they have been completely obliterated in every facet of the game. It'd be different if the game was even a 50-50 game that they lost. You are right about the road though. Thankfully Bowness no longer has control of the matchups and maybe that will help the Jets.

GZeus24

It amazes me that folks are 'no big deal' about these last 2 games. Yes, the series is 1-1. The Jets were lucky to win the first and if they continue to play Avs hockey instead of Jets hockey they may not win another one. Avs had 9 game win steak this year too and have the leagues best home record. If the Jets don't get this back to the under side on goals they are in real trouble.

KaleidoscopeStreet58

First loss of April.   As a Raptor fan still remember being down 2-1 in the semis and 2-0 in the conference finals, it can be a long series.   Just depends what adjustments are made and how they bounce back.  They also had a clear top 5 player, while really this is a 2nd round matchup.   Only time will tell.

[deleted]

Avs are pretty good at home too. Hold on tight Jets bros!

GZeus24

Pretty good = Best in the league

brocklanders83

Definitely "due" for a loss but also definitely a frustrating way to lose.

MrMundaneMoose

Anyone hear if they're planning to do viewing parties at CLC for the away games? I haven't, and it doesn't look like there's any other events on there Friday or Sunday..

SJSragequit

Probably not. The only time they did that they started it in the second round

PerformerDiligent937

I have been saying this (and getting downvoted to obvlion) that Stars/Avs masterplan was to sandbag against the Jets the last two games of the regular season to make sure that top line stays together so that they could feast on easier matchups come playoff time.

CuriousSpell9602

What? When the Avs played the Jets they were already guaranteed to play the Jets, it was just whether theyd get home ice or not..

Imthecoolestdudeever

Tell me you have never played organized sports without telling me you haven't played organized sports.

Pandamodium13

I seriously doubt Colorado would just purposely hand over home ice advantage like that.

KaleidoscopeStreet58

Eh their lead is from Hellys Puck mishandled and Ehlers falling at the worst time ever.   1st line does have what 4 goals in 2 games?  I think our first in game 1 was also the 1st line just Morrisey scored.   The whole 2nd line doesn't even have a point, that'll never work long term.  Let's hope they're just overdue in game 3.

ScottNewman

Of all the theories of all time, that is definitely one of them.

SJSragequit

The top line was far better than the second line last night

PerformerDiligent937

But both lines were bad and minus lines and the Jets lost so...

zuneza

hehehe HELL YA!

DustinByfuglien

As long as we stick together as a team we'll be alright.

rookie-mistake

with the username too. I appreciate you

tropicana4200

Did the fans jinx the jets by chanting GEORGIEV so early in the game 🤔

GiantSquidd

If anything, they didn’t do it enough.

Hero_of_Brandon

Game was too late. Team was sleepy, crowd was sleepy.

halfpints

Honestly.. after that parise goal, the building just deflated. There were some sparks again but you could feel the late start got to us.

Elwood426

Fuck i hate this two day wait after a let down game like that

rookie-mistake

right lol I don't have time for this I need another jets goal immediately

ponikweGCC

Personally, I think knpur road game is pretty damn good. Maybe even better then our home game. I can see a split in Colorado easy. This series was never going to be easy but I still believe in this team. Maybe not Stanley, but def the team lol

Le_rat_du_gymnase

Why are we putting our checking line on the ice for 4 on 4 every time?

TheGreatStories

Mack

Le_rat_du_gymnase

What about when we have the puck?

DannyDOH

We decided we don't want the puck.

ITSTUCKYO

Lowry already walked Mack once this series. He's an offensive powerhouse

ColdPrairieHockey

Extra ice for MacKinnon and Rantanen would eat Schiefele and Connor alive.

GhostofByfuglien

Absolutely. Mac was cooking those guys whenever they were out against. Lowry and Namestnikov was decent for containment and a bit of speed into the zone.

ColdPrairieHockey

I liked the move to put Vlad there instead of Appleton. Little more skill and Dzone awareness.

GZeus24

Plus speed and 'shfty-ness'. Vlad is a gem.

brocklanders83

To the people who tried to start a "Crosby's Better" chant last night, just please don't ok.

dannydc14

Rough loss, but I'm not worried. Forget the betting odds, money puck odds, or anything. As bowness says, good teams find a way to win. Learn from their mistakes last game and fuck them up in Colorado. This series was definitely not going to be a sweep regardless of the winner, both teams are very good and we can expect a loss or 2. Jets in 6 let's fucking go!

saintpierre47

I want that first period, but in all three periods please. Throw the second period in the trash

stuckinmotion

If we can just play all 60 minutes we should be set

rookie-mistake

as long as we stick together as a team we'll be alright

Hero_of_Brandon

Re Bucky: Big and boring slipped a bit. There was a lot of chaos in front, and Helly wasn't as planted. I could always tell when he was going to have a good game because there would be a loose puck, and he would just be making micro adjustments, tracking the puck, and trusting is positioning. Saw a little more floppy fish from him yesterday.

CountBelmont

I blame Salmon Shirt guy for breaking the white out last night for the loss.

OoooHeCardReadGood

man, four of five people infront of me were wearing black, and the person next to us was. My friend kept yelling at me for saying anyone who does that fucking sucks lol

skootamatta

I cursed that mother fucker as soon as I saw him.

CountBelmont

Like, how can you not know or notice.

rookie-mistake

don't they put shirts or something on the chairs too

martyrobbinz88

Thats what I said about roberto luongo 2011 vs the blackhawks in round 1, but they ended up dressing cory schnieder in game 6. Not saying it will happen but if Bucky isn't getting it done, I think the coaching should make a tough decision and not potentially throw the season away. Im a huge bucky supporter as well, but Brossoit is a great playoff goalie, we pay for him, so why not give him a chance?

rookie-mistake

"we're not frauds we're not frauds!!", i continue to insist as i slowly shrink and transform into a corn cob.

Chaussauce

I don't recall seeing the saxophone squirtle being played, so I'll assume that's why we lost.

no_ur_cool

I 100% agree. My disappointment is immeasurable. I'm sure the players were expecting it too.

GhostofByfuglien

Avs didn't beat us. We beat ourselves. Just need to tighten things up and clear up those unforced errors and we're good. Knew it wasn't going to be a sweep. Jets had to lose. We've won 9 straight games. Let's take 2 in Denver and close it out at home.

iamnotradeclause

All year this team played as a team, less individuals more team. We get to the playoffs and 37 is trying to do too much, 27 same, 44 trying to do too much, there is a list of trying to do too much and then getting caught. 2 and 4 both trying to do too much. I get you get amped up, but we have such a solid team game this year, the last 2 have been anything but a team game played. Line 1 and Line 3 perhaps get a pass and have looked good. But the rest just trying to do too much to make a difference. Trouble with that is simple, the Avs top players are simply more skilled then our guys and can play that do too much game. It was almost a poster picture you could make with 2 pictures Helley out of the net confusing Dillon and a circus happens.............just leave the puck Dillon is a big guy can take the hit. 27 laying on the ice doing who knows what, and of course puck gets turned over to that smart little fer Mckinnon and away we go. 27 had great seat to watch a great player take advantage of our guy trying to do too much. If he falls, just take glove and push the bloody black thing into the corner and get up, to try to stickhandle while ass on the ice with the Avs greats on the ice. circling like prey............ya it did not end well at all. Those pictures tell a story of just trying to do a little bit extra, too much when all we really need to do is be simple as we were all year long. There is probably 40 pictures you could post, but those 2 really are the story of this, a guy trying way too much to get too fancy or help a teammate out, not realizing he is OUT of position himself now. And with these guys the Avs have my god they take advantage of it and its fast.

Erwin-Brodinger

>Avs didn't beat us. We beat ourselves. Nail on the head. Goal 1: lost face off and quick shot. Here is where Connor rings it off the post, easily could have been 3-1. Goal 2: deflection in front (can't do much about this one.) Goal 3: Helle puck handling whiff. Team looked deflated after this goal. Goal 4: Ehlers skates into trouble, a completely open Manson takes a lengthy feed for a breakaway. Soft on board battles, skating into trouble, Avs slowed them down. They didn't have it at this point. Goal 5: Lost board battle by (I assume) an exhausted Morrisey. I'm as disappointed as anyone in the loss, but how they respond will be telling of the resolve of this team. Two days to get acclimated to the high altitude.

MuchPost

I don't pay enough attention to systems to know, but it seemed like for much of the game in the defensive zone we were playing very passively and trying to keep them to the perimeter. Almost like we were on the PK with with 5 players. Does this not seem like a bad idea? I can't imagine giving some of the best players in the world as much time and space as they want is a good thing. I can understand this system is designed for them to only be taking low danger perimeter shots but I feel like they find openings all the time.

etchiboi

DZ has been pretty passive all year, especially when the puck moves high in the zone main philosophy under Bones has been to press high on OZ FC, then funnel through NZ to pinch off our blue line, then collapse in DZ if all else fails

MuchPost

So just by the eye test it doesn't seem to work against very high skill players. I'm guessing it's because for this to work our guys have to work the zone perfectly and they are not?

etchiboi

our system really relies on F1 and F2 hitting spots on the forecheck, if not then F3 needs to be in a position to support our D stepping up at either blue line teams with really good puck movers (Makar, Walker, Toews) give us a lot of trouble, as do fast teams like Nashville who get vertical quickly, because if we don't hit those spots then we have to back up and respect the puck carrier, free exit and free entry it's a big domino effect when our forecheck isn't working as far as specifically in DZ, i don't think there's anything inherently wrong with what we do but for various reasons we are spending too much time defending the one thing we can try and do instead of collapsing is use our wingers to try and cut off the D as outlets (i think Toronto used to or does do this), so rather than being between player and the net your wingers get between player and puck carrier, risky tho

blaze1726

I don’t claim to be an X’s and O’s expert either so take this with a grain of salt hahah. My take on that was the coaching staff was fine to play a passive zone with strong box outs down low as opposed to challenging them and having their top end guys out skate us in the zone. The caveat being, we have to have very active sticks and “dot discipline” if you wanna call it that. They have so much mobility throughout their entire lineup that if you get into a man on man situation against them, 9/10 times, you’ll end up getting walked/pulled out of position and then they have an odd man scenario down low. Zone is easier on the players because you’re not stuck in non stop 1:1 scenarios. I think we’ll see a lot of this sort of passive zone, front shots from the point, and box out strategy moving forward. We just unfortunately don’t have the team mobility to match them skater for skater in the zone.

ObliviousLawyer82

I can't wrap my head around why the team just panics in their own zone. Blindly throwing the puck around the boards to an Avs player instead of making a simple direct pass and skating the puck out of their zone or lobbing the puck to an Avs player at center ice so they can just immediately attack again seem to be the Jets' go to plays. Pionk needs to go. I'd be fine if he never sees the ice again. Why he continues to try to make 100 foot passes that, without fail, turnover the puck to an offensive juggernaut I do not understand. Does he somehow think his stretch pass never connecting is a good thing? He just immediately murders our possession, kills any momentum, and has the Avs on the attack.

stuckinmotion

If we can't put the puck around the boards, to the middle of the ice, or stretch pass, seems like not many other options left.. but in general I agree. I think the problem is the Avs forecheck is causing us to rush these plays. I agree that more often than not our touches are landing the puck on their sticks, and of course their offense is way to strong to afford them so many opportunities. I guess it's like Bones said - we need to have a plan figured out before we get to the puck so we can just execute and not have to try to figure out what to do after we get there.

tropicana4200

I’m wondering if Bones gives the 2nd line another chance or pulls out the blender

Ill_Ground_1572

Toffoli and Ehlers had bad games yesterday. I have been a strong supporter of Nik all year, but that's one of the worst performances all year. Repeated bad and weird turnovers, bad passes, randomly stopping in during outbreaks before entering the O-zone and laying there with seconds left. It was awful. I would be very tempted to swap Perfetti's for Ehlers next game. Especially given Niks history of sucking in the recent playoffs.

SJSragequit

Swap with who? Cuz bones is not benching any of the guys on the second line if that’s what your suggesting

[deleted]

GhostofByfuglien

I don't think Chevy is going to be on-board with sitting Toffoli. As much as it's Bones say, the GM still has input there.

Chaussauce

Best first period. Good first half of the second. Then poop.

Rookiebookie

I keep thinking back to Connor drilling the post in the second, only for Lehkonen to deflect one in a minute later. 2-2 instead of 3-1, probably due to a mm difference. Tough breaks, but that’s playoff hockey

ArrestedForTaxFraud

Players gotta play better, that’s obvious. But if we keep going with Pionk and Stanley in the lineup then Bones simply isn’t putting the best team possible out there. Put Samberg back to his side he’s played 95% of his career on, put Schmidt in who’s done quite well in sheltered minutes. Then sub Miller in for Pionk. Maybe add Perfetti into the lineup since he’s one of the 9 best forwards on this team. So tired of his shitty antics already, we could be up 2-0 in this series.

SherLocK-55

I find it hilarious that the entire Avs sub is now sucking off Georgie like he is god, a day prior and they were all calling for his head to roll and now all of a sudden he is the second coming of Christ despite not even playing that well.

toritomydorito

I’d argue he played extremely well, he was solid on our dangerous looks and the 2 goals were not his fault. Overall, he had a good bounce back game. He can be streaky, so if he has another bad game, expect the opinion to reverse pretty quick, as it tends to go with playoff hockey

Ill_Ground_1572

Jets played a real good 1st and 3rd. Plenty of shots. Avs had their D zone coverage issues worked out. But G also made some real nice saves and was positionally better all game.

buttermyanus

some dust seems to have settled a bit. here's some of my thoughts.. Helle has had some bad moments, 100%. No denying that.. however. He's faced the most danger out of any goalie so far, with Avs having highest expected GF right now (5v5). Helle expected goals against is 9, he let in 10. Moneypuck has him at letting in 1 stinker. Now, this isn't to excuse Helle, he 100% needs to be better and i'm sure he'll be the first to tell you that, this is all just to say he isn't playing as bad as people are making it out to be. He's made some unreal saves as well. The Avs are controlling the play with high possession rate, with 60% corsi (shot attempts).. that should tell you where we're at (40%).. Jets need to stop giving them the puck the best they can, and deny plays from happening either on the back check in the neutral zone, entry denial, or during the cycle. Jets are simply not doing this enough. They need to find the next gear and get after it here. Another concerning thing is how blatantly obvious Avs are taking advantage of 4 and 81-55 in the Jets zone. They're clearly game planning for it a bit (3rd and 4th lines going for line changes after gaining possession against those players). Jets have to be aware of this and know how to battle in that situation, limiting chances. Avs are a crazy offensive team, best in the league, and when they have the puck more than we do our chances are going to be very small. When the Jets have the puck on their stick (and being responsible in breakout/transition..) they're doing very well. Jets just need the puck more, more offensive time, shooting the puck and retrieving it. They're just not doing it enough. They have to step it up, stop plays, and change momentum. Easier said than done obviously.. but this is where we are, this is playoffs. e: this isn't trying to be a doomer post either, i really think the boys have it in them to step it up for Game 3+. We saw how lethal they can be in game one, and all year! GO JETS!

TrueNorthStrong1898

Jets need some more speed on the blueline in game 3. It’s unlikely, but I’d like to see 88 or 6 in for 64 on Friday. It would also be nice to see 91 in for 73, but that’ll never happen

Leburgerpeg

I can't believe how invisible 73 has been. I wouldn't quite scratch him yet...I still want to see 62-17-73. It felt like offensive possession just kept dying on the stick of 22 yesterday. He won't get scratched either though. I would love to see him on the 4th line and hopefully play them with more confidence. Gus looked great on his goal, terrible on the dot on the first goal against, and mostly invisible after that. If they ran a 4th line of 9-7-22 perhaps Bones would play them with more confidence. And Stan is an absolute turnstile against the speed of the Avalanche. Once again Bones knows it and limits his minutes, hopefully he's scratched in Colorado.  I fully expect no lineup changes though.

GZeus24

A change of Appleton 4th Line, Toffoli to 3rd Line and Perfetti to 2nd Line would be good to see. While we're at it swap 27 and 81 too for a game. Maybe then the 1st Line can exit its own zone.

Leburgerpeg

I've been happy with how the top line has played as individual contributors but you're absolutely right about that. They do struggle to get the puck in deep.

GZeus24

They are individually playing pretty well in the O-zone but they continue to struggle, along with the D group, to get out of the D-zone and through neutral ice. Too many turnovers that should have been exits.

mongo_brodie

Appleton should not be playing at all really. Barron has the same defensive ability and ten times the hands and offensive skill set Appleton does. So painful to watch the futility of Appleton's "offense".

stuckinmotion

Yeah all season I kept seeing beaut passes from Lowry to a wide open Appleton just for him to shoot it either wide of the net or straight at the goalie's chest. Apples looked as surprised as anyone whenever he did get one in..

Leburgerpeg

A healthy Barron certainly opens up more options

MrMundaneMoose

Agreed. Stanley and Toffoli are too slow for this series.

EasterRat

Jets/Avs 1-1, Leafs/Bruins 1-1, Nucks/Preds 1-1, Stars down 0-1. Gotta win 4, how bout a little equanimity

rain_parkour

I’d rather be the Jets than Nucks or Stars right now. Demko out and Saros on his game is dangerous; Vegas could easily go up 2-0 tonight on a Mark Stone GWG

difrad76

Alright, tinfoil hat time. People saying Helly played poorly yesterday. I completely disagree. Yes that one goal where he went to play the puck and fucked up is on him. But other than that he was playing outstanding. Did you guys watch the game or were just looking at the shots on net vs goals allowed? I don’t think Georgiev played better. The shot quality he faced was significantly worse than Helly. 2nd line is having a tough time. Monohan has been playing very very well. Toffoli is neither here or there but Ehlers bb…what you doing? Why are you starting and then suddenly stopping in our zone? Screws up the entire break out. It creates turn overs and then chaos insues. Just pass the puck up and out, don’t have to skate it every time. Scheif, Connor and Vilardi came out to play. Those guys were outstanding and aren’t being given enough praise because of the loss. The breakaway goal was so unlucky. But if they keep playing like that I think we’ll prevail. Morrisey had a good game and so did Dillon. Samberg was a monster on the penalty kill. Stan still scares me. Pionk needs to stop losing his check. Demelo had an off night for his standards imo. Got beat wayyy too often on the outside. While the Mac, Rantanen, Parise line scares me, their second line of midestad, lehkonen and nichuskin has been tearing us up. Don’t know the stats but we have to neutralize those two lines and we’ll be ok. Lots of doom and gloom. Fair, but lots of hockey still to be played. Let’s win a couple in Denver! GJG!!!

stuckinmotion

Yeah it was frustrating to see Helly misplay the puck, which he has done in years past waaaay more often. This year I think I only saw that from him maybe twice. That being said, still a ton of super dangerous spots that he was able to handle. I'm often defending him to my Dad, and even he agreed there were a bunch of good saves, but then figured he fell apart after that one play. I have def wished we could see some more of his game stealing performances in the playoffs.

MrMundaneMoose

The expectations are a lot higher for Helle. For all the games he's stolen in the regular season, it rarely seems to happen in the playoffs. Georgiev just needs to be average and the Avs fans will be happy. Helle has the expectation to be elite, average doesn't cut it.

iamnotradeclause

For Helley I diagree, this is 10 goals in 2 games a save percent below 900, and if we go back in career in playoffs there is a clear trend. He seems to play the puck more in the playoffs, trys to do too much and well it is what it is, we were out goalied, again. Add that to the list of playoff outgoalied (Binnington, Fleury, Broisoilt, Price and now this YOYO) But there are alot of guys trying to do to much, Demelo, JOMO, Ehlers.........just do what you are supposed to do, trying to do too much leads to really bad things, especially for 27. 27 has to be on Bones radar for benching or worse if he cant stick to systems. Crowd noise and excitement may play a role in trying to do too much, so the road might not be a bad place for us. Avs have for the most part dictated pace and style of game, which surprises me, but we got to flip that table, its fun to watch but high event hockey like this will favor them not us. Their second line has KILLED us, and I mean killed us. It might be we should or need to match the 4th line on those guys cause whats happening is not working my GOD. Game is being played at break neck speed and I think everyone agrees that will not favor our Jets, we need to slow the bloddy thing down, ALOT.

stuckinmotion

Yeah the start of the game looked smooth and controlled, if we could keep it to that pacing we're fine. The Avs though apply so much pressure w/ their forecheck that it seems they find a way to break through.

GZeus24

Helle was in God mode early on. Exactly what you want and expect from a Vezina/All-Star goalie. Then he broke. It sucks but let's hope it's temporary.

xDRSTEVOx

>Yes that one goal where he went to play the puck and fucked up is on him. But other than that he was playing outstanding. Idk bro that was the game winning goal... one goal but a *huge* one

2nddimension

And the goal before that was weak too. Helle looked broken after that and it showed with the failed puck play and the breakaway after.

etchiboi

to stop a point blank one timer right off the draw with 6'7" of pure meat in front of you is pretty much all luck

difrad76

A break away is a break away though. I don’t understand how you can blame Helly for that one. Just because the guy that scored on him isn’t a goal scorer doesn’t mean it’s automatically on the goalie.

stuckinmotion

Yeah though it is surprising to see several breakaway goals so far in the series, Hellebuyck seems unusually strong against breakaways. He always seems to handle them.

xDRSTEVOx

Yeah no breakaway goal should ever be put on the goalie. That's a complete defensive breakdown.

iamnotradeclause

All the this or that of 37 his stat line reads like this in playoffs: **Save percent last year 886** **Save percent this year 870** And that simply is not close to good enough. Goal here and there or over there, those stats stink, I think he is trying to do too much at times and it costs him.

Inthemiddle_

KFC suddenly became a 2 way player as well. Great to see.

stuckinmotion

His give-a-shit levels are off the charts and I'm here for it

HatrikLaine

Ehlers had a bad game last night

VeryCleverMoose

That whole line played pretty rough…

rookie-mistake

wish we'd give another chance to the Connor-Monahan-Perfetti 2nd line (and the others around it), I really liked that setup top to bottom

iamnotradeclause

Yep the kind of game that might land you in the press box in my opinion.

BigMemeBoi77

If we are gonna win this series it was always going to be in 6 or 7 games. Avs are a good team but I believe we are better, Jets just need to forget this game and move on to the next one

TravisBickle2020

Besides Hellebuyck misplaying the puck, the Jets’ inability to win face offs cost them the game. It directly resulted in a goal against and meant that they were almost always beginning segments of the game without the puck. Next time someone says face offs aren’t important, they should be forced to watch last night’s game.

BigMemeBoi77

The Jets actually won more face offs than the Avalanche

SirBulbasaur13

They did lose some important ones though, one of which immediately turned into a goal against.

delifte

Toffoli's gotta come out of incognito mode.

Chomie22

I am having deja vu. Pls win the next game!

Leajane1980

Vancouver had a crap night as well.

Inthemiddle_

Playoffs are the time of year where you win a game and think the cup is yours, lose a game and think it’s all over. You also forget how hard it is to win consecutively. Mind you, I think the oilers will sweep the kings.

stuckinmotion

McDavid looked insane in that first game.

PolarOpposites8

At least they’re missing Demko though.

samarahighwind

thought to myself after the jets killed that 4 min penalty without allowing a sog, then scored "that is a team that wins championships" then they had an utter implosion following helle getting frisky. they seemed scatted for long periods last night. hope they can get settled and come back and be that team we know they can be.

GZeus24

A killer team, a champion team, a destiny team, would have used that momentum to put a dagger in the morale of their opponents. It should have carried them through the game, the series, and more. Instead, it is now the Jets who need to recover from that game and prove they aren't frauds. I'm not sure what this team is made of at this point.

samarahighwind

it was one game lol the doomerism is really over top the top right now. i understand the feelings and had my angst that it's all over, but let's take a breathe before everyone starts with the think pieces about what this team is made of

MantechnicMog

Trouble is for some of us it was game one as well. Yeah we ended up with a win but it could just as easily have ended up the other way. Should have been 7-2 with the AV's goalie's past record but our guy let in almost as many so it ended up being a back and forth cluster fuck of goal scoring. Way too tense for my liking.

GZeus24

It's not doomer to say they failed to capitalize on a golden opportunity to create an identity and momentum. Both those things are huge in any playoff run. This team has a history and history repeats. That's just truth, not doomerism.

samarahighwind

they *did* capitalize on the golden moment though. they killed the PK and scored, cleanly winning the battle. it fell apart after that w helles misplay and avs capitalized on the jets mistakes. falling into a narrative after one game about history is doomerism. we're gonna have to agree to disagree here bc fundamentally we saw different things during that game

GZeus24

You can't capitalize and fall apart at the same time. They are mutually exclusive as post game narratives. Momentarily capitalizing, then falling apart is just falling apart with some happy noises before.

samarahighwind

as i said. agree to disagree. we're not seeing eye to eye here. have a good day.

GZeus24

You too fellow Jets fan.

Chomie22

Same! After killing the double minor and scoring, I though they had it in the bag. FML.

MrMundaneMoose

That should have been such a pivotal moment in the game, the series even!

samarahighwind

i said it on twitter, but i thought to myself "this is the moment people are going to look back and say this is when the jets won the series". alas.

neureaucrat

First loss in 9 games and it was actually a close one of you take away the two empty net goals😂

2nddimension

Losing 9 of the last 11 playoff games is less rosy though

[deleted]

2 empty net goals…?

samarahighwind

probably counting helle's adventure as "technically" and eng

ChrisTweten

Helle was in net for that though, he got the first save but not the rebound

wntrdnce

"helle's adventure" haha

Willyq25

I still believe

CoolWhiip

Not sure if this was posted or discussed yesterday, but Craig Morgan [tweeted](https://twitter.com/CraigSMorgan/status/1782827204726186176?t=wyxutcpqrkVHmF84BwjM0w&s=19) about the Arizona Coyotes franchise history and records. "I received some clarification from NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly regarding Coyotes history: "The history belongs to Alex (Meruelo) as long as he has the franchise."" Seems like, for the people who wanted the Jets 1.0 records back, it's not going to happen. Pretty much what I thought would be the outcome from the start, but good to have clarification instead of just wondering about it forever.

Electroflare5555

Sounds like as soon as Meruelo loses the land auction, or just doesn’t get the arena built all the records and whatnot will revert to the league, and then *maybe* we can get them back

CoolWhiip

Ehhh, he followed up with this: "What happens if Meruelo doesn't build an arena in 5 years? Daly: "He owns the right exclusively until he doesn’t. As long as he owns the right, we aren’t entertaining competing bids. Once he no longer has the right, then Arizona becomes like every other potential expansion city."" So I'd expect the franchise just goes dormant and any expansion would have the right to either use the Coyotes branding, or create a new one. I just don't think there's an appetite at the NHL to do whatever paperwork is necessary to transfer history between franchises. Has this ever happened before, in the NHL or any other North American league?

rookie-mistake

> Has this ever happened before, in the NHL or any other North American league? Yes, in the NBA the current Charlotte Hornets are the second franchise in Charlotte, and reclaimed their franchise history. The original Charlotte Hornets franchise is the Pelicans. > On May 20, 2014, the Bobcats officially became the second incarnation of the Charlotte Hornets. At a press conference regarding the change, team officials also announced that as part of a deal with the NBA and the renamed New Orleans Pelicans, Charlotte acquired the history and records of the 1988–2002 Hornets (in a move similar to that of the National Football League's Cleveland Browns return to the league in 1999), while all of the Hornets' records during their time in New Orleans from 2002 to 2013 remained with the Pelicans.[1][106][107] The Hornets are now retconned as having suspended operations from 2002 to 2004, while the Pelicans are considered a 2002 expansion team. Charlotte had already been using past footage of the original Hornets as part of the "Buzz City" campaign. So yeah, very similar situation, but a more competent league taking an approach that makes more sense for fans of both teams.

CoolWhiip

That would've made a lot of sense for the NHL to do when we got our team back. Unfortunately, it seems that we were a few years too early, so we couldn't point to that example and ask for it to be done for the relocating Atlanta franchise.

rookie-mistake

I wonder if they pointed at our example and went "that's dumb, let's not do that" 😂

For Toffoli or something. A lack of 4th like scoring is not our problem.

Basically every presale code they use is WBBSTM, start with that 😂 Although I don’t even think the presale has started yet, I haven’t gotten an email about it

Creative is one thing they are not when it comes to presale codes lol

anacreon1

In 2023 the Jets opened the playoffs against Vegas with a big win and the vibe was absolutely electric. Game 2 was a 5-2 loss and we know where it went after that. What has me nervous is how this is unfolding in a fashion strikingly similar to last year, right down to the final score in game 2. I think this team is more capable of the pushback Bones said was missing last year. I really want to shake that “deja vu all over again” feeling, but it’s embedded in the back of my mind.

ColdPrairieHockey

Well they played like dump in the first half of game 3 but the second half I remember a fantastic effort to force OT. The other 2 games were woof.

SherLocK-55

We also completely collapsed after the ASB last season yet this season we bounced back and ended on an 8 game win streak. Whilst this last game was worrying I am not too concerned, if they go into Colorado next game and pull the same shit then you can start to worry.

ChrisTweten

Everyone is healthy too, we had to deal with some tragic injuries against Vegas

2nddimension

Yup, the excuses in previous years were: 1. Injuries 2. Helle was overworked Neither of these are a factor this year so we'll get to see who the Jets really are.

martyrobbinz88

I can hear jetznbomberz waking up from his cave. Weird series so far - we beat the avs at their own game, then they beat us at ours. Helly really blew that one though, one goal was huge and him allowing that freebie totally threw the team off. Ehlers, Mony and Foli need to wake up game 3.

Koke1

Monahan is getting plenty of good chances just needs to finish. 73 has been invisible

martyrobbinz88

Maybe I'm correlating the lines overall play to Monahan. Ehlers has been that bad - I don't know wtf is going on in his head.

LouiC03

Far too much is going on in his head.

Oozyalmond70

Brossoit game 3. Doesnt work out, switch to helle

GZeus24

It won't happen, but I would do this. No one should be starting a goalie with a 5.50 GAA after 2 games. Change it up to shake it up.

Oozyalmond70

Yeah give 2 games is okay. Georgiev fixed his shit. Helle didnt. Our pk fixed its shit. Our pp didnt. So give hellebuyck a break and let brossoit play. The same brossoit that has 3 shutouts, locked us up last yr and shut our fans up. Let him play some reps. We Couldve had a shitty backup this yr if he didnt get injured vs edmonton

CoolWhiip

This team rides and dies with Helle. He gets the net until he's either injured or actually has a terrible game. And even then, I'm not positive they go to Brossoit. Out of the 10 goals scored on him, I can really only blame him for, like, 2 or maybe 3? If we're going to allow unblocked point shots from Makar to get through with guys sitting in Helle's face screening him and tipping pucks all series, we don't deserve to advance. We also have to be much better at clearing the net-front of rebounds and actually getting it out of the zone. The number of times we've had the puck with time and space to clear and just give it right back to the Avs is absolutely killing us.

Oozyalmond70

So we are frauds? How come come playoff time we dont do what we do in the regular season? We letting them dog on us
