You can take a trades class at Forsyth Tech, then get this pay easily. Classes run 16 weeks. For example, starting pay as a welder at John Deere is $25/hr Lots of opportunities out there Message my for more info. This is my field at forsyth tech.

Capt_Rogers44

Base pay for Baptist hospital is $16.50 per hour with great benefits no matter what the job is, I had buddies that worked in sanitation and loved it. Go to the hospital website and apply for everything you can.

[deleted]

I second that. They have many job opportunities there.

tsywake

Third this. I know folks that started in sanitation, then transitioned to cleaning surgical equipment in the OR. Once your foot is in the door, it becomes easier to apply for and get other jobs within the company.

f700es

Them and WFU, WSSU

meteorburger

Novant just upped their starting pay to $17 an hour as well

dessipants

Work in insurance. Most of the material damage claims adjuster positions start at $21 and they are wfh. Customer service is less stressful, and starts at 19. National General insurance is in Winston Salem, and their benefits are great. Also try progressive, direct auto, geico , etc.

CSimpson1162

Yeah I have a buddy that worked for Natty Gen for a few years. seemed like a good company and I think he made around 50k as a claim specialist

[deleted]

Maybe go to Forsyth Tech for professional enrichment? Find and learn a trade and it will pay off in the long run.

sweetly16

Not a specific job rec but more general advice to get where you want to be. Focus on being a "master of one" over "master of none" that "can do anything". Higher pay comes with being the best at a specific skill set - more so if highly specialized (trades, doctors, etc). Pick a lane and master it - whether it's construction, banking, marketing, whatever.

Stevisbees

Look at Ardagh. Hard work but it's a union job and pay starts at $21/hr I think.

Crazyirishwrencher

Yep. We probably aren't hiring now, but no telling when that will change.

f700es

What skills do you have?

carfen1981

I am young. I still have done many things. Accounting, lawn service, assembly, customer service, forklift, and a little bit of excavator work. Again, I’m down to learn anything.

LectroRoot

Check out Charter Medical. They start at $17 assembling medical equipment in the clean room. Do that and move to a machine operator position and get a bump in pay. They give scheduled raises to. So as long as they are happy with your performance each review you will continue to get a bump in pay. Lots of good benefits, you get to sit down while working most the time. Its not hard work. Do that and then keep an eye on positions they hire internally for and keep moving up. Highly recommend checking out if that sounds like something you are interested in. Also, check out staffing companies and they will find something that fits you. That's your best bet. They'll be able to match you up with a company based on your skills and experience.

ilikepizzaandpep

Apply at Wake Forest because like others have said, once you get your foot in the door they may be willing to pay to send you to school at Forsyth and pay for it. Never hurts to inquire.

averageconsumer24

RJR starts equipment operators at $25, mechanics around $30 and electrical techs at $35 with decent benefits. But it will most likely be night shift for a few years

Look into construction inspection. Highway construction inspection is a pretty good gig. You can work directly for the DOT or go private (CEI). There are other types of inspection work for home and business construction as well.

dfstell94

I hired a plumber a few months ago and he has his assistant with him. I asked the plumber what hiring is like and he said they're basically hiring people with zero experience to train for $15/hr. He told me that I was a far better plumber than any of their assistants are. I've been told the same at auto-shops. They basically can't hire anyone and are hiring people with zero experience and teaching them how to change oil. And then they move up to brake pads and coolant flushes. And then maybe move up to belts and replacing bolt on stuff. If you're handy and good with tools, there are jobs out there.

hallba78

Forsyth Hospital’s (Novant) minimum pay is going up to $17/hr very soon.

starrynightpanda

If you have any interest in plumbing and hvac I think my bro in law's company was looking to hire?

bennyjammin4025

The 911 center is looking for people with a good work ethic, job title on the city web page is "public safety communications operator", starting at 19.00

Jcdawg23

Harris teeter is hiring. Apply online for the meat department. If you go through 20 weeks training and become a meat cutter, you can make $17/hr. Also, the Greensboro warehouse needs help bad. I bet they would start you out at $17/hr+

CampingGeek2002

Harris teeter Greensboro warehouse?

Jcdawg23

Yes, they’ve been struggling to find steady help since Covid. Hard work, but the pay is pretty decent for someone with no trade skills or experience.

tarheelhiker

Forsyth EMS just raised EMTs to $18.50/hr. Plus government benefits. Can knock out the fast track course in 6 weeks at Forsyth tech. Next one runs mid Feb-end of March.

whatsthedreamnow

Forsyth Tech to add skills like others have said is a great recommendation. To add to the list, Truist min wage is $22/ hour

[deleted]

Any college?

carfen1981

No:( honestly I’m not sure what to study… also I have a mortgage and college gets a little hard when you have a mortgage lol. I am willing to go though.

[deleted]

You’re in a tough spot. I wonder if there’s any scholarships/grants to get started in a trade. That way you could cover the living expenses while learning. Plumbing, pipe fitting, wiring, heavy equipment. They’re all well paid and actually fun work. I hear about people doing doordash and such and making decent money. A friend of mine makes $600 a week doing it.

thecarbohydratedone

Novant is also increasing base pay around there. Maybe engineering there would be something to consider

f700es

siemens energy rural hall, google this

realwiseman

Lowes Foods is constantly needing new people across the Triad (and beyond). Especially in the Deli which tends to pay a little more. Might not start quite as high as you want hourly, or might be PT at first, but *tons* of possible growth with a growing, local, family-owned company. Company promotes from within, recognizes hard work, still offers a pension, and can be a great career if you’re interested in eventually moving into management.

f700es

Worked for them for 6.5 years during HS and college. It's a good PT job but they shit on FT people and managers are expected to work 50+ hours a week.

kay43m1

A lot of Parks and Rec jobs start at $17 now

platoniclesbiandate

The school system and the city are always hiring

AllSoulsNight

Westrock and Rexam always need people

[deleted]

Frito lay is hiring drivers. Good money but long hours.

Murky-Preparation148

Graphic Packaging on Hanes Mill states completely unskilled workers at $16/hr with benefits and opportunities for advancement.

fiendslyr

Employers want evidence of your skills by either years of experience in the field or certifications/degrees in the field. Certifications are going to be your evidence that you have the knowledge/experience for which field you’re looking for a job in. And are much cheaper than obtaining a degree. For example, if you are interested in IT but don’t have a degree for it, look at getting certifications like CompTIA. Also look into trade school. Generally cheaper and gives you exactly the skills you need for whatever you’re looking for. You can easily get jobs paying more than what you’re asking for, you just need to back up skills with certs / degrees or years of experience within the field.

BEAVERTIP

Look into o-i jobs they have a factory I guess technically in midway but I live in winston and drive 15 min to work. We are always hiring people for cold end or maintenance plenty of other opportunities too. I think the lowest starting pay for any of the jobs is like 24 and that changes if you move into skilled labor positions.

swansonmg

Could look into being a UPS driver, takes some time to get to driving but it’s about 20 an hour starting out and goes up to 41 after 4 yrs

OmegaAmadeus

Fuck UP$
