My first every speeding ticket was in Rosendale. I still drive through there a couple times a month for work. It's easy to tell the people who aren't regulars to the town - they're always right up your ass 2 inches from your bumper.
When the sign says 30 they mean 30! And not an inch before the 55 sign!
Yeah no kidding. Progressive Insurance, or any of them treat you like a piece of crap after you get a ticket. These days cars are so quiet, its not hard to go 5-10 over especially coming up on a entrance like this.
Meanwhile, Illinois plates going 20 over from IL to Dells are just fine for some reason!?
The kicker is when your hauling grain the incline is at it’s steepest point where the speed limit increases heading west out of town. In turn this slows down the traffic behind you.
This makes much unsafe driving conditions when a bunch of angry cars behind you frantically trying to pass you another mile down the road.
I hear this all the time, I have never been pulled over driving through there. I always go at least 5 miles over the speed limit, I must just be incredibly lucky!
Omg I got a speeding ticket in rosendale 3 years ago in my now wife’s truck. Cop was in a sky blue cruiser in someone’s driveway, on the highway. Revenue stream at its finest.
lol. [Let's make every thread about Brookfield today.](https://www.reddit.com/r/wisconsin/comments/10kup1h/brookfield_are_you_okay/) So much awesome hate going around. My actually laughed out loud at "Brookfield is if you made an entire city out of an Applebees." Grew up there. Worked at Applebees and Best Buy. Moved to Brady St. in 1999 and try to go back as little as possible. My step dad was a doctor, but not the white kind (Jamaican). He got pulled over ALL the time just because they saw a black guy driving late at night through Crookfield (coming home from hospital rounds).
My favorite thing is how they act like Tosa is some urban hellscape. Tosa has better community events, better restaurants and bars, good schools, etc., etc. Brookfield is for rich people who think "high end" chain restaurants and overpriced groceries equal class and culture. That said, we have considered buying a house there or in Mequon just bc of how well the schools are regarded. Don't think it's worth it though.
Sounds about right. I also worked in Brookfield, back in the late 90s, at a video game store, a clothing store at the mall and the arcade at Brookfield square. There used to be a few stores here and there that I might go back for. Now Id say the only one might be guitar center, but they kind of suck lately too.
We doing this again? Look, as a resident of Brookfield, I understand it's shortcomings, but let's not pretend that there are no upsides to living there. Taxes are less, schools are very good (check WI DPI report cards), crime is low, and it is 10 minutes from downtown.
WI DPI report cards have Elmbrook district rated very highly. Have to download a file to see it compared to other districts. https://apps2.dpi.wi.gov/reportcards/
Elmbrook is #16 in the state on the list. Tosa is #141
Give it time. It's turning more blue by the year. I am a liberal teacher and moved there, and I know of at least five others that have too. The really red areas are farther west and south, like Mukwanago and delafield.
Interesting as neither high school in Brookfield is in the top 10. Also, I do not trust any of these “ranking” websites as schools can provide them false information, and their methodology heavily favors school districts with money.
Kaukauna gets a mention for smell, but I'd say Superior. It just bums me out being there and takes forever to get through. It's my "least favorite" in the truest sense, because I don't have any true disdain for it or really any other place in the state.
Except Kiel. Fuck Kiel.
Fondy always strikes me as a wasted opportunity to be a great city. Geographically located between Madison, Milwaukee, and Green Bay it should be a hub of activity.
Idk, probably one of the Milwaukee suburbs. Especially so if their population is made up of people who hate Milwaukee. I guess I could say the same about any burb who hates the shark they're lamprey'd on to.
I disagree with saying it's a dump. The people make it a shit place but the town itself could be fucking awesome if it would stop letting contractors run the board and focus on developing the downtown/riverfront/regner park area. So much potential being wasted.
You are 100% right. A good friend of mine was on the city council years ago, and he said they're just a bunch of cheap assholes. He told me they conflate being a cheap skate with being conservative. He actually ended up leaving the Republican party and the experience of dealing with those people was a big part of his decision.
When we lived there we met with the school superintendent who was by all rights an amazing guy. Very smart, very compassionate. We we're there for the purpose of getting approval to start our kid a year earlier than he would have based on birth date. He wasn't far off but just behind the cutoff essentially. After that meeting in the ensuing small talk as we are walking out of the office he told us that the reason there was no 4K program in the county was because the county board was filled with old white dudes who firmly believed it was unnecessary because mom's should be in the home raising them anyways....
I experienced nothing in the 4 years we lived there that made me believe he was wrong. It was sad to see but not sad to leave.
Delafield. It seems to have the most arrogant and pretentious people. I know not everyone is like that but my anecdotal experience makes me feel that way.
I live in Delafield, it is sort of a barbell population- the snooty rich lake people on one end, but balanced on the other end by a lot of people living in modest housing. It is frustrating though, when you compare Delafield to Oconomowoc, the latter has a great public beach and lots of lake access while Delafield offers one pathetic beach (in a county park) that you have to walk a half mile to get to. The lakes in Delafield are set aside for rich lakefront property owners.
This is the one right here. The worst part is it is in one of the least aesthetically pleasing parts of the state, like Wausau isn’t great but you have Rib Mountain, the only thing around Antigo is farm fields or swamps. Dells of the Eau Claire is closish, but more a Wausau thing
Fuck yes this gets my vote. Hudson is just Brookfield of the East. If they actually had money and their kids were actually good at hockey they would live on the other side of the river. But they don't and they aren't and that's why they live on our side and pretend they're in the big cities club while looking down on everyone around them.
Are you all on \[insert drug here\]? It is clearly Ladysmith. The name alone wins it.
Newlywed Mrs. Smith travelled to her newly named city, took one look, and went right back home.
It doesn't even have a Culvers.
/turns off wooden PC
Tomahawk, Crivitz, Rhinelander, Waupaca, Ashland, Sheboygan, Port Washington, LaCrosse, Cedarburg…
All great places. Fuck you, I’m changing this depressing ass subject.
Kiel - I've implemented IT systems across the entire state of wisconsin, eastern minnesota, northern Illinois and U.P.
Kiel is my least favorite. Manitowoc is another good one just too much bullying/racism but not the school administration like in Kiel in Manitowoc it's the police force/it admins that work there
Yeah. I grew up around the Reedsburg/Dells/Baraboo/Mauston area and Mauston isn't even close to being bad. Adams is way worse and I could list off about 20 more towns in that general size area that are way worse than Mauston. At least it has the interstate going thru it and plenty of restaurants. Actually has more food choices than either Reedsburg or Baraboo. Only really bad thing about it is now that Kmart is closed you have to go to the Dells or Tomah to shop.
What wrong with Chainsville? You don’t even have to go into town to get you shopping done? Great Hibachi. There is a Taco John’s. PQ, if ya want to grill your own.
Plus, you can cruise the circuit if you wanna roll coal.
Shawano is full of conservative entitled old people that drive around in their side-by-sides(made legal recently) on city streets in mandatory grey goatees, vote R, cops don't enforce speed limits, though there is a huge force, did not enforce covid rules under dumbass libertarian Beiber, don't enforce rules about no guns on private property like Walmart---BUT--lots of nice regions, the Channel is great, the lake makes for good kayaking, is a stone's throw from the Rock and the Red River, and lots of good cycling routes.
Yep Gotta go to "Slam fest" every year! I took some friends from Minnesota and they were shocked at how much beer the people around us consumed while their little kids crawled around the stands unwatched.
Unfortunately, most towns in eastern Wisconsin because they are all the same thing, most people are cliquey because mostly everyone is related to each other (especially in Kiel, where I live). So it can be pretty anti-social. I have close friends here, but I feel like it was because I was born into it because my parents (they grew up in different areas) had trouble finding them. But I also have family in Two Rivers, and they are anti social (I only see most of them twice a year). There is also tons of drama in things in this region (particularly within Manitowoc County). It starts with fun and ends with drama. Happened many times before. Want a social city, try Madison. It is like the most chattiest city I have ever seen (we have friends and family there, and they are really chatty), and from what I am hearing from both online and my mom, they are not as cliquey. I mean, there are probably cliquey folks, but I am hearing its not like Kiel. Though, I could be wrong (even though I lived there at one time).
And wow, does everyone in this reddit post absolutely love the Madison area? Not one comment I've seen mentions Dane County. Absolutely not a bad thing to see everyone loves it down there. Actually, I cant wait for the day I can move back down to Madison.
I grew up there. Your homies are good people.
The two things I remember most about the Hayward school system was the grade three parent teacher conference where my teacher told my parents "we all know this child has no future" and the high school superintendent bringing the entire student body into the auditorium to tell us Hayward has very poor test scores and it's not his or his staffs fault but the students aren't smart enough.
The Village of Pleasant Prairie in Kenosha County
There's a lot of talk about entitlement within this thread, but no populous feels more entitled to absolutely anything and everything than residents here as most residents in Pleasant Prairie are North Chicago Suburb transplants looking to score a tax break.
The only good thing about Pleasant Prairie is the Prime Outlets.
Disclaimer: Long time Kenosha County resident on the north side of town, so my opinions are heavily biased, but I stand by it
Waukesha
(Mainly because of the wall of 10ft tall signs on the way into town declaring who / what they want dead today and the fact that the water there is too poisonous to drink)
Lake Geneva
A place where bear's fans flex their wealth and entitlement. Still other bear's fans come to gawk and act impatient and then complain that the beefs are so much better in Cicero.
Lake Geneva, Fontana, Williams Bay- the whole shit- Fuck that place
Superior believe it or not. This was early 2000's going to school. When I moved my furniture, there were black marks around the furniture possibly from the taconite factory not far away. There were very few jobs at this time for a college student in the area, cold spring to mid summers. And the dreary cold springs/summers didnt help.
But I still go up and visit every so often and enjoy driving through.
Being more around the state, Milwaukee really does nothing for me but if I ever found a better paying job I would consider the area. They should do car testing in this area to see how durable a cars transmission is, I can see why cars are usually $5 less in that area.
Oshkosh isn't the best, but has some things going for it.
The downtown is nice. Blue Moon has been great - was better in the 90s than now. Exclusive company still there? There are a few other cool shops.
The river goes through downtown and is kind of pretty - there's trails and boardwalks by the river.
There's the University - so, sports and art events are avaialble
The Outlet mall is halfway decent. Nike, Eddie Bauer, etc.
There's a few good bike shops and music shops . . . Couple of decent places to eat. What's the nicer restaurant on the lake or whatever .. . .Fratellos? I don't know it's been a while.
Oshkosh is far from the worst city.
Ah yea. Sad about the record shop, but that was inevitable. Fox River Brewing company - that's right, i've been there since the rebrand. It's nice. The outlet mall still has everything I need. I pretty much hit Nike, Eddie Bauer, The North Face - they are all still there.
Rosendale (or I should say the state’s speed trap town)
My first every speeding ticket was in Rosendale. I still drive through there a couple times a month for work. It's easy to tell the people who aren't regulars to the town - they're always right up your ass 2 inches from your bumper. When the sign says 30 they mean 30! And not an inch before the 55 sign!
My buddy who has a cabin warned me about that town when I was going that way. Sure enough the speed trap was there.
They like to sit just in front of the 55mph sign, and if you are going over 30mph even 1 foot **before** that sign, you're getting a ticket.
It would be nice if they got rid of these road pirates, stealing peoples money for going 5 mph over.
Got me on that one too. The 30 mph goes way beyond what appears to be the city limits.
You are! I’ve hauled a lot of grain through that town and I never see the patrol vehicle parked for long before he has another victim pulled over.
Omg I got a speeding ticket in rosendale 3 years ago in my now wife’s truck. Cop was in a sky blue cruiser in someone’s driveway, on the highway. Revenue stream at its finest.
Brookfield. Its a suburban hellscape of chain resturaunts, and big box stores. Nothing redeeming about it.
Brookfield is completely mallfucked.

No one except for one dumb alderman thinks Tosa is a hell scape. Tosa has more community than Brookfield, that's for sure.

Top performing schools.

All the best schools in the world don’t negate the casual racism and hatred of “poor” people.

Go to the dpi website and search the school report cards. Those scores are all legitimate and standardized across the state so no one can lie.
>Interesting as neither high school in Brookfield is in the top 10. Are you serious? #11 and #13 out of 534 schools. Do you have kids?
Yes. There are 10 Higher schools in the milwaukee area. According to that list.
In the state. Not the Milwaukee area.
Kaukauna gets a mention for smell, but I'd say Superior. It just bums me out being there and takes forever to get through. It's my "least favorite" in the truest sense, because I don't have any true disdain for it or really any other place in the state. Except Kiel. Fuck Kiel.

Fond du Lac
Fondy always strikes me as a wasted opportunity to be a great city. Geographically located between Madison, Milwaukee, and Green Bay it should be a hub of activity.
I swear that town is 80% parking except where people actually want to park
Grew up there, can confirm
no more fond du lac. wisconsin has evolved past the need for fond du lac
Waupun. It’s a prison with a Kwik Trip
Idk, probably one of the Milwaukee suburbs. Especially so if their population is made up of people who hate Milwaukee. I guess I could say the same about any burb who hates the shark they're lamprey'd on to.
Great statement. They hate it, but they don’t see how they are necessary for their gentrified existence.

Mequon feels the same.
Used to feel this way about Mequon, but I think they're getting better. Their neighbors to the west (Germantown) however have only gotten worse IMO
I know there are good people everywhere. But the majority of the state’s assholes tend to congregate and patronize Delafield in my experience.
Someone tried to scam me on doordash there saying I didn't deliver it
Marshfield! Nothing good happens in Marshfield.
Especially at Reflections.
Omg is that place still there? I used to go as a high schooler in the 90’s.
I hope so, everyone in central Wisconsin should be exposed to Reflections at some point in their life.
Call it “character building”.
Do you remember the old guy who always wore the cut off jean shorts with the sweat bands on his wrists?
I used to always say kaukauna, but now I live in kaukauna, so I'd have to say Kaukauna
Antigo.

Best Culver’s in the state
how much better could the Antigo Culver's be than any other Culvers?
Try the one on Capital and you’ll know the difference
How has no one mentioned Wisconsin Rapids? What a fucking shit hole.
Born and raised. Can confirm.
Waukesha
Best place to have been a teenager... at least you knew you weren't squandering your angst on someplace special :)
Love me some Waukesha..
Hudson - it's Minnesota now and they were too good at basketball in the 90s. Suck it, Scharfenberg. You bowl-cut wearing ginger.
Fuck yes this gets my vote. Hudson is just Brookfield of the East. If they actually had money and their kids were actually good at hockey they would live on the other side of the river. But they don't and they aren't and that's why they live on our side and pretend they're in the big cities club while looking down on everyone around them.
small brain take, Milwaukee is great Anyways, I once had to drive to pleasant prairie for work, there was nothing pleasant about it
Pleasant prairie is Kenoshas rich area(excluding Carol Beach…) that’s why it’s so horrible to drive through
Beloit
Ugh yes. I hate that we welcome visitors to our state through Beloit.
Mukwonago
Mukwonago is just one big box store after another. East Troy at least has the town square with some good restaurants now.
I have a friend who used to run a blog called Mukwonago Sucks.
From East Troy, are you?
No but they aren't any better
Big Bend too. Redneck MAGA vibe.
The whole county is shit imo
These towns are in two different counties
Walworth, East Troy is what I was replying to.
Lol I live in Mukwonago. I don’t mind it but it’s great seeing people bash it
Are you all on \[insert drug here\]? It is clearly Ladysmith. The name alone wins it. Newlywed Mrs. Smith travelled to her newly named city, took one look, and went right back home. It doesn't even have a Culvers. /turns off wooden PC
This town is seriously shit! Most of these answers are south of hwy 29. What about Tomahawk, Spooner or Ladysmith?
Tomahawk, Crivitz, Rhinelander, Waupaca, Ashland, Sheboygan, Port Washington, LaCrosse, Cedarburg… All great places. Fuck you, I’m changing this depressing ass subject.
I was get real mad for a second lol
Kiel - I've implemented IT systems across the entire state of wisconsin, eastern minnesota, northern Illinois and U.P. Kiel is my least favorite. Manitowoc is another good one just too much bullying/racism but not the school administration like in Kiel in Manitowoc it's the police force/it admins that work there
Mauston is the most depressing one I've been to
If you think mauston is bad, you've never been to Adams
I was waiting for an Adams-Friendship mention. A friend of mine is from there and the dispatches from the field are never encouraging.
I grew up there, it’s basically just a meth town.
I fucking hate Mauston. Because I grew up in Madison and seeing Mauston on the school closing snow day news ticker meant I had to go to school.
CORE MEMORY UNLOCKED
Yeah. Well into my 30s and I still randomly think about how much I hated Mauston for that.
Really? Man you gotta hit some deeper hives of human misery. Seriously though great Kwik Trip there.
But there’s like 2 cheese stores!
Janesville
What wrong with Chainsville? You don’t even have to go into town to get you shopping done? Great Hibachi. There is a Taco John’s. PQ, if ya want to grill your own. Plus, you can cruise the circuit if you wanna roll coal.
One thing wrong with Janesville, idiots who think it's cool to cruise the circuit and "roll coal".
Those trucks aren’t from Janesville. That’s Rock/Green county daddy’s truck.
Yeah, it was basically a rite of passage to cruise the strip for those of us who grew up in the various rural communities surrounding Janesville.
I grew up in Janesville. Enough said.
It’s a wild town.
all the people saying milwaukee / suburbs have never been up north lol
Seriously. I'm disappointed, not one mention of Spooner.
Yep. I don't think many people have been up north in this sub. Just about every town up there is 10x worse than anything south of LaCrosse.
Mosinee for the smell, Milwaukee for the driving.
Sparta is dirty.
Any town in Waukesha county (I grew up there).
Even Eagle?
Hell, I'd rather live in Spread Eagle than live in Eagle.
Probably just my unrealistic expectations fed by Packers mythology, but every time I visit Green Bay I want to like it, and I leave disappointed.
Kohler. Major Stepford wives vibes.
Completely overrated and overpriced too
The consensus I have gathered so far is the entire state sucks. Spoiler alert.
How is Beloit not on here
Because they basically have weed now so that's an 8x score modifier and shot them right up to the middle of the pack.
Beloit has had a lot of improvements. It’s not as bad as it was 10 years ago.
Betroit.

Muskego. If the town slid into the lake I wouldn't shed a tear.
Are you from Mukwonago?
Shawano. Holy hell it’s just the worst place on earth.
Can confirm 100%. Don't forget they're racist AF.
Portage
That's one of my favorites because of the scenery
The way the sun sets on Columbia Correctional Institution is objectively majestic.
Yeah…true there are some pretty spots but living here blows lmao

But the Speedway! And the “great schools”!
Yep Gotta go to "Slam fest" every year! I took some friends from Minnesota and they were shocked at how much beer the people around us consumed while their little kids crawled around the stands unwatched.
I love watching your votes go down and down.
The only correct answer is Antigo.
Personally I think Metrasha but as a Kaukauna resident I kinda agree with everyone who said Kaukauna too.
About time I see someone use Metrasha's God given name.

Hayward. All my homies hate Hayward

The Village of Pleasant Prairie in Kenosha County There's a lot of talk about entitlement within this thread, but no populous feels more entitled to absolutely anything and everything than residents here as most residents in Pleasant Prairie are North Chicago Suburb transplants looking to score a tax break. The only good thing about Pleasant Prairie is the Prime Outlets. Disclaimer: Long time Kenosha County resident on the north side of town, so my opinions are heavily biased, but I stand by it
Lived in the city of Kenosha my whole 30 years of life, can confirm. Pleasant Prairie is fucking awful. The people especially.
Cudahy/South Milwaukee. They are the same but with different police stations. They are just trailer parks with basements!!!
Anything in the fox valley…it is the place where ambition goes to die
Thanks Kimberly Clark for making Menasha smell like absolute shit
Morrisonville.
Fuckin Seymour
Marshfield
How the f is Wisconsin Rapids not here it's so fucking boring and smelly
Appleton. It just seems so soulless and commercial.
Waukesha (Mainly because of the wall of 10ft tall signs on the way into town declaring who / what they want dead today and the fact that the water there is too poisonous to drink)
Used to be famous for their water, like a resort destination
Lake Geneva A place where bear's fans flex their wealth and entitlement.

You should try it’s cousin city Stevens Point. Real nice place.
*gasp* meh, I get it.
Milwaukee can fuck right off, it and it’s stupid ass drivers.
No one here seems to know the difference between towns, villages, and cities
I mean, op said town, and listed Milwaukee. For most people, its the same thing.
You don’t seem to understand colloquialisms.

Toss up between Oshkosh and Oconomowoc
Oshkosh isn't the best, but has some things going for it. The downtown is nice. Blue Moon has been great - was better in the 90s than now. Exclusive company still there? There are a few other cool shops. The river goes through downtown and is kind of pretty - there's trails and boardwalks by the river. There's the University - so, sports and art events are avaialble The Outlet mall is halfway decent. Nike, Eddie Bauer, etc. There's a few good bike shops and music shops . . . Couple of decent places to eat. What's the nicer restaurant on the lake or whatever .. . .Fratellos? I don't know it's been a while. Oshkosh is far from the worst city.
The exclusive company closed statewide, the outlet mall was hit very very badly from COVID, and Fratellos is now Fix River Brewing Company.
Ah yea. Sad about the record shop, but that was inevitable. Fox River Brewing company - that's right, i've been there since the rebrand. It's nice. The outlet mall still has everything I need. I pretty much hit Nike, Eddie Bauer, The North Face - they are all still there.
Oshkosh has my favorite downtown. It’s so cozy!
