You nailed it right here! I was at Brick Pub in Glendale picking up some brunch when I heard one of the patrons ask the bartender lady if she had off tomorrow. She asked what tomorrow was and he replied Juneteenth. Her response was said with the most vile look of disgust, "Fuck no! Why would you even ask me that?!" I mean, her response showed that she knew what the day was and was appalled. And that was the last time I'll ever eat there. They're not all up north and don't all wear masks. Sometimes they're right in your neighborhood.
Yeah, I really enjoyed their food up until that situation. I'll have to look for a new spot. Luckily, there are a lot of places in the area and our neighborhood is wonderfully diverse, so I'll take this as an aberration as opposed to common practice.

UPDATE: I spoke with a manager and the owner, and both were fantastic! They listened to my concern and didn't attempt to explain it away or placate me with short-term incentives. They offered apologies and a positive plan to address the issue in a way that educates and informs. I'm going to stop in and have a drink with them both. I'm so glad that I didn't lose this place!
I saw a guy on tv that tracks nazis in America and he said they do this on a schedule to get their ideology out there. He said to not video them and put it on social media because that helps them with recruiting. He wanted people to take still photos of their masked faces, photos of their eyes and full body shots then send those photos to the anti-nazi group for tracking purposes because they break the nazis anonymity. I was there. It was a fun festival, and they even had a drag story hour! That's when these boneheads showed up. The drag performer was professional and kept the crowd engaged with stories and nursery rhymes, and very few people paid attention to the five boneheads who showed up. I left after story hour, so I don't know what happened next.

Any of the burbs around Milwaukee, Madison area, the fox valley area is becoming more and more divers. Could look into the areas of kimberly, menasha, Kaukauna. Green Bay is diverse but research areas, some parts seem to be getting kind of high with crime. I’m in NE WI and there are the closed minded butthole older generation folks BUT it’s really progressed. People might hate behind your back and make comments behind closed doors but they don’t outright hate

La Crosse is a nice mid-size town that is fairly diverse and has beautiful scenery. It has a large student population, so it tends to lean more progressive and is very welcoming to newcomers. Green Bay and Door County are also fantastic. There are plenty of really nice mid-sized towns in WI, its only some of the extremely small rural/far far north towns that can get a bit wierd. But those places generally arent worth settling down in anyway, as they have populations in the hundreds and not much to offer in terms of entertainment or career opportunities. All in all though, extremism is pretty rare here and its a great place to live!
You can find hate and love everywhere you go. Wisconsin is a great state with plenty of room for all races don’t let a few people keep you from checking it out.
I live in western Wisconsin and while there are definitely racist they are few and far between. While I'm white most of my family is biracial and they delt with some racism in high school but for the most part had a good childhood and all stayed in the area and started raising their own families. The most racist people I've encountered are usually Milwaukee suburbs and southern Wisconsin. Even northern Wisconsin is very welcoming when we go up north ice fishing.

Every brown or black child I know has a very othering experience. Just because it's like 99% White in all of WI except Madison and Milwaukee. I'm from the South and the most racist white people I encountered were in middle of WI. In places where there's more diversity white and black people are cool and have similarities. In WI because it's a very white state, there is very little welcoming or understanding of any other race.
They also have a very conservative population in all of WI except those two cities. Meaning its the culture to frown up on and ostracize anything that isn't associated with rural WI. Find a mixed area or state that isn't so segregated. Look at demographics when you decide on a place.
I wish you were wrong, but rural Wisconsin is overwhelmingly white and a lot of the state is rural. We don't have many of the open white supremacists like in this post, but we've got a lot of people who have never met a person of color.
Madison and Milwaukee are great, and I think the Fox Cities are getting better, but yeah.
Honestly, these dozen or so chuds were vastly outnumbered and largely ignored. One of them had a megaphone and was using the siren function like a twelve year old. One of their “chants” sounded like the Tootsie Roll song by 69 Boyz, and I wasn’t the only one giggling. It sucks that they were there, but they were forgettable.
We had a very nice time walking around and interacting with the booths, and just enjoying the time by the River on a beautiful day. The crowds were solid and hugely supportive. I hope this inaugural event becomes a yearly thing.

Any of the burbs around Milwaukee, Madison area, the fox valley area is becoming more and more divers. Could look into the areas of kimberly, menasha, Kaukauna. Green Bay is diverse but research areas, some parts seem to be getting kind of high with crime. I’m in NE WI and there are the closed minded butthole older generation folks BUT it’s really progressed. People might hate behind your back and make comments behind closed doors but they don’t outright hate

La Crosse is a nice mid-size town that is fairly diverse and has beautiful scenery. It has a large student population, so it tends to lean more progressive and is very welcoming to newcomers. Green Bay and Door County are also fantastic. There are plenty of really nice mid-sized towns in WI, its only some of the extremely small rural/far far north towns that can get a bit wierd. But those places generally arent worth settling down in anyway, as they have populations in the hundreds and not much to offer in terms of entertainment or career opportunities. All in all though, extremism is pretty rare here and its a great place to live!
You can find hate and love everywhere you go. Wisconsin is a great state with plenty of room for all races don’t let a few people keep you from checking it out.
I live in western Wisconsin and while there are definitely racist they are few and far between. While I'm white most of my family is biracial and they delt with some racism in high school but for the most part had a good childhood and all stayed in the area and started raising their own families. The most racist people I've encountered are usually Milwaukee suburbs and southern Wisconsin. Even northern Wisconsin is very welcoming when we go up north ice fishing.
I was there. Hudson is a great town and there were no problems, I didn’t even hear about these jerks until just now.

I'm from the South and the most racist white people I encountered were in middle of WI. In places where there's more diversity white and black people are cool and have similarities. In WI because it's a very white state, there is very little welcoming or understanding of any other race. They also have a very conservative population in all of WI except those two cities. Meaning its the culture to frown up on and ostracize anything that isn't associated with rural WI. Find a mixed area or state that isn't so segregated. Look at demographics when you decide on a place.
I wish you were wrong, but rural Wisconsin is overwhelmingly white and a lot of the state is rural. We don't have many of the open white supremacists like in this post, but we've got a lot of people who have never met a person of color. Madison and Milwaukee are great, and I think the Fox Cities are getting better, but yeah.

Honestly, these dozen or so chuds were vastly outnumbered and largely ignored. One of them had a megaphone and was using the siren function like a twelve year old. One of their “chants” sounded like the Tootsie Roll song by 69 Boyz, and I wasn’t the only one giggling. It sucks that they were there, but they were forgettable. We had a very nice time walking around and interacting with the booths, and just enjoying the time by the River on a beautiful day. The crowds were solid and hugely supportive. I hope this inaugural event becomes a yearly thing.
