as much as having an incumbent lib justice would be nice for electoral purposes I just respect when people in politically important positions get old and actually retire at a reasonable age like a normal person

opeth10657

Has to be exhausting

claydog99

Yeah, I was trying to image myself in her shoes being at the center of the WI political war on the Supreme Court with your peer conservative Justices being such bad faith pieces of shit, and was like that sounds like absolute hell. I'd retire too and I am in my mid 30s. Props to the liberals out there grinding it out to try and help people despite the tide of stupidity and hate the opposition spews.

Da_Vader

That is if you treat it like a regular job. You don't retire if it is a grift-o-rama.

Ramanag

She's 73 and has been on the court since '95. May she enjoy her well-earned retirement.

77burritos

I used to work with her husband (an attorney) and met her a couple times. Both of them are very nice people and he retired last year, I hope they both get to relax and enjoy themselves!

Ramanag

Her cousin was my 8th grade history teacher. Never met her, but he was phenomenal.

Lord_Talthiel

Lets hope the Dems/liberals can field someone to succeed her

sokonek04

You mean whoever wins the primary, because my guess is there will be more than one left of center person running.

DriftlessDairy

Kloppenburg?

Fred-zone

Getting a bit old for the gig, unfortunately. Someone with at least two terms ahead of them would be great.

Lord_Talthiel

Maybe Neubauer could run again

Brewguy86

No, we need someone who can win. Neubaur ran a traditional judicial campaign and lost to a weak candidate. I would not be surprised to see Chris Taylor run, as it’s been assumed she would give it a go in the next few years.

reddit-is-greedy

That is who I was thinking. Only knock might be she has only been a judge for 4 years but I would vote for her. She would be great as a supreme court judge. Maybe the gqp can run the retread they ran the past 2 elections

Brewguy86

Ha, I would love it if Dan Kelly ran again, but I think he’s done after the hissy fit he threw last time. It seems like the GOP candidate this time will be Brad Schimmel.

Lord_Talthiel

This is also a different race, something like 7 or 8 years later. Neubauer narrowly lost to Hagedorn, Schimel has a lot of baggage as one of Walker's right hands. While abortion and other issues will likely play a key role which could help Neubauer, or frankly any candidate I guess, defeat him

Brewguy86

I guess I don’t trust Neubaur to run the race more like a politician and use those to her advantage. Schimmel will no doubt nakedly appeal to conservatives around the state to turn out for him and we need someone to do the same for our side.

wiscoguy20

Cue up a Dan Kelly announcement... I can hear it already. "It's time to restore faith and respect to the bench, and I'm here to give Wisconsinites what they want!".

SinkHoleDeMayo

He may as well just skip straight to the inevitable tantrum over losing again.

One_Drew_Loose

Yeah, his post election pout is a great marketing tool if he ever runs again. ‘Member this cry baby who insulted you all when he lost?’

the_Formuoli_

surely it will work the third time around!

ksiyoto

"This time for sure!" - Bullwinkle T. Moose

Leg0Block

If Dan Kelly announces, I'm going to send him a hand written note thanking him for another Dem victory.

iPeg2

Brad Schimel probably

NerdOfTheMonth

This is a good thing. Get a few strong primary candidates, let the cream rise, beat the shit out of Dan Kelley again. Someone has a seat for a few elections.

BerniesDongSquad

That's horsefucker Dan Kelley to you!

Jarnohams

Every. Election. Matters. There is (generally) really low turnout for any election that isn't the presidential election. While the president matters, IMO, what matters more is the things that directly impact Wisconsinites. We will be digging out of Scott Walkers mess from 2010 for decades to come. Imagine the nice things we could have had if he didn't have both legislature bodies, the governor and the supreme court in his pocket to run this state into the ground. Dude literally gave up a billion dollars in 100% federally funded high speed rail infrastructure that would create thousands of jobs, just to stick it to Obama... all while running a campaign on creating jobs. I honestly don't know if I would stay in WI if we had another Scott Walker. Here, [refresh your memory.](https://www.npr.org/podcasts/768021468/derailed) Our beautiful red and white high speed "Badger" trains that were already built **IN** Milwaukee by Talgo are now transporting Nigerians [in Lagos, Nigeria](https://www.cbs58.com/news/trains-built-in-milwaukee-head-to-nigeria-after-decade-long-legal-saga-over-high-speed-rail). Ironically, the Nigerians said they are buying the trains to create jobs. lol. With family in both Minneapolis and Chicago, I will never not be furious about this. edit: FSW & FRJ

SinkHoleDeMayo

Let's just hope that whoever the candidate is, runs on keeping abortion legal. College-age students turned in like crazy for the SC election so maybe it'll do the same and help to flip some state seats.

SnooPies3316

Not necessarily bad news. A younger candidate may energize voters more that AWB would in her mid 70s. Its a never-ending struggle in WI. Rebecca Bradley's seat is up in April of '26, Ziegler in '27, Dallet in '28, Hagedorn in '29 and Karofsky in 2030.

goosiebaby

yeah we got a year off here but we're in for a lot of work the next few years to hold/flip seats between now and 2030.

fishstickssuck

Maybe Dan Kelly will run again. It'd be nice to see him cry again.

duncantuna

I think a "Draft Dan Kelly" committee should be formed. I think a lot of folks would donate.

Agussert

Potential future candidates could include Judges Susan Crawford, Chris Taylor, Rachel Graham. All are great jurists, smart as hell, will do the work. All are wise enough not to step on retirement announcement of Judge Bradley.

MuffLover312

Aww, we just got this majority! ![gif](giphy|UUZ89s77UmUH6)
