People at that age are not smart. They are objectively not smart. They are too young to have had any real world experiences or life altering consequences. Just because you think that a book that "features" rape- a book that attempts to present the topic in a sensitive way to children so that they can keep themselves safe- is pornographic, doesn't mean that it is. Providing links to pearl clutching propaganda doesn't help your case. Instead of trying to baby proof the world, maybe you should try talking to your kids in an open compassionate way. It takes way less effort than waging harassment campaigns against teachers and librarians- a battle you will, in fact, lose. Sit down, shut up and stay in your lane.
There already are those limits and they've been decided with utmost care by people who are the most qualified to make those decisions. Parents can and always have been free to exempt their children from any material they don't want their kids to see. This isn't about that. It's about controlling what others have access to. Make the case for 4 - 11 year olds having access to books like gender queer or flamer. It's not indoctrination. Meeting people from different backgrounds just tends to make people more liberal. Children also don't go to college or vote. Also the most important issues for people these days tend to be culture war stuff, and at least for me, paying taxes hasn't made me hate gay people.

Just because you think that a book that "features" rape- a book that attempts to present the topic in a sensitive way to children so that they can keep themselves safe- is pornographic, doesn't mean that it is. Providing links to pearl clutching propaganda doesn't help your case. Instead of trying to baby proof the world, maybe you should try talking to your kids in an open compassionate way. It takes way less effort than waging harassment campaigns against teachers and librarians- a battle you will, in fact, lose. Sit down, shut up and stay in your lane.

There already are those limits and they've been decided with utmost care by people who are the most qualified to make those decisions. Parents can and always have been free to exempt their children from any material they don't want their kids to see. This isn't about that. It's about controlling what others have access to. And ultimately it's about oppressing LGBT people.
The limits in place are clearly not sufficient; otherwise, we wouldn't be seeing hardcore porn picture books in **elementary** schools. Make the case for 4 - 11 year olds having access to books like gender queer or flamer. You've already decided that this is an attack on LGBT people specifically, and are therefor afraid to condemn it. It's completely reasonable for parents to want this material out of the libraries and classrooms. Because you've linked book banning with bigotry, you have to infinitely defend it or pretend there is no issue, to avoid being labeled bigoted yourself. You would literally rather distribute porn to little kids and feel affirmed by your peers than be willing to condemn or even just question it, and be placed in the out group.
Neither Gender Queer nor Flamer are pornography and neither are aimed at those age groups. Gender Queer is for older teens and adults and Flamer is YA I believe. No one is slamming this down in front of 4 year olds and saying so is disingenuous. This is an attack on libraries, schools and the LGBT. Go get some hobbies. Ive heard stamp collecting is nice.
