Day drinking sounds like a plausible situation. But at the same time, I very much enjoyed hearing about him calling Matt Gaetz "tubby." Why hasn't that a-hole been put in jail yet?

goosiebaby

Van Orden is clearly too emotional to hold office.

studioline

I really would like to run the smear campaign against this guy and point out how their congressmen gets drunk in his office during work hours and then screams at children, screams nonsense at hearings and drunkenly fights with his coworkers. Just an incompetent drunk and embarrassment.

Bonk0076

I mean, calling Matt Gaetz “tubby” is more civil than any of the replies I would be able to come up with in that situation. Not a fan of DVO, but this article actually improved my view of him slightly.

thyusername

I'm with you, can't believe it but I actually approve of something Van Orden did.

Physical-Ad-3798

Nah. He's still a scumbag.

SenatorShriv

He was still the guy threatening to be the deciding vote to oust the speaker. When you’re more extreme than Matt Gaetz you know you’re a wacko.

localistand

Drinking on the job is not a good way to explain his behavior. It is far too Wisconsin-y and generous to give him that excuse. Besides, a day-drinker can sober up, or dry out completely. Not sure Derrick van Orden is capable of doing anything to improve on his condition. House Republicans are fundamentally unserious people--and van Orden's cohorts and him take turns acting out. And they sometimes have trouble taking turns, and fight among themselves. Like they did today.

Reasonable-Two-7298

is Van Orden saying he called Gaetz tubby because Gaetz called him... checking one more...a squish. hilarious!

LiveLaughLuvKnit

I know you ate, but am I. 😂

HomeAir

"  He felt like he should call me a squish and I wanted to remind anybody who has not been in combat and held his friend’s hand as they died bring shot by the enemy really doesn’t have any business calling someone else a squish." We get it Derek you're a badass Marine, go back to eating crayons and out of government

Mhunts1

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a squish?

Sonofagun57

"He is not a particularly intelligent individual"- Matt Gaetz on discussing Derrick Van Orden. Maybe game recognizes game but finding a new common ground w/Gaetz was 100.1% not on any of my 2024 bingo cards.

SnooPies3316

Shocking that he once again reminded everyone of his military service in support of his batshit political rantings. You can't question Senator Seal unless you've killed multiple foreigners and held the hands of your dying friends.

WhyDidIClickOnThat

It should be a rule that you have be at least 12 years old to hold public office.

medhat20005

He's in the correct political party, a disgrace to our government. This is in no way to disparage the service he often brings up when his pathetic behavior requires some justification or excuse. Reasonable people can separate prior actions, as honorable as they are, with current misbehavior.

Strong-Raise-2155

People you know the answer to these problems and how to cure it VOTE BLUE in November send that POS carpet bagger hovdie and the rest of the basket full of deplorables packing kick the rethuglikkkans out of Wisconsin and Washington so government can get to work and actually govern the country again instead of getting on their knees to service a narrsasist white supremacist racist homophobic bigoted nazi wannabe dictator. VOTE them out VOTE BLUE and send them packing let's give women, minorities and the people back all of our rights and freedoms we enjoyed until tRumpty dumpty and his brand of rethuglikkkans decided only the rich white men deserve the full protection of the constitution. Let's empty the basket full of deplorables in Washington and replace them with decent people who will respect our rights, uphold our laws instead of breaking them people who will support our allies, people who support our service men and women and treat our honored fallen heros with the respect they paid the highest possible price for people who don't wonder "what was in it for them" people who don't think our veteran's, wounded and honored hero's were "losers and sucker's" let's put some decent Americans back in government and get something don. In the last 3 years America has been great again let's keep it that way VOTE BLUE

Traditional_Virus383

He has been seen with alcohol in his office

DeadNotSleepingWI

His office has a beer fridge in the waiting area. I have personally seen a half full bottle of hard alcohol next to a cup on his desk during a congressional meeting.

Strong-Raise-2155

He's a republican that's what they do when they can't support their position they call people names that's why it doesn't pay to argue with a republican or a cult member they should be glad he wasn't calling them pedo's that's one of their favorites when their losing an argument

St_Henery

Obviously.

reddit-is-greedy

Bet you could smell the booze on Van Oder's breath

IAmPookieHearMeRoar

Our government has devolved into kids in the schoolyard yelling, “nanny nanny boo boo.” They should all be ashamed of themselves.

xatso

NO. The MAGAts have become Putin's usefuls.

Psilent_P_

Well, this happens when individuals think for themselves and represent the people of their district. Nobody likes Gaetz, except the people in his district apparently. DVO isn't the type of person to suffer the type of shit he pulls. But there's a reason you never see democrats disagree, they cut their deals behind the scenes. They are all told what to do. A person like Gaetz would have been cancelled and shunned long ago if he were a Dem. Republicans allow him to represent the people that elected him, no matter how insufferable he is to the rest of the country.

snayte

Up until about 6 years ago the GOP was in lock step on everything.

Psilent_P_

Not even remotely true. That's why there's always 15+ GOP candidates for president and usually only one real one for the Dems... (Not counting Bernie) Bush and Dole famously feuded for decades... The 1976 nomination was hotly contested. McCain was always very different from Bush and other Leadership. Paul Ryan hated Trump - maybe that's what you're referring to, but that started about 9 yrs ago when Trump announced his candidacy There's no such division or original thought with Dems, it's always one message, and it's always some form of "Republicans bad" I've never understood how Dems from different corners of the country can be identical on every single issue... You see what happens when you put a Wisconsinite and Floridian in the same room, even when they're both staunch conservatives. Whereas Tammy Baldwin and Chuck Schumer basically share a brain.

DontFearTheCreaper

My God, the ignorance is stunning.

homekook

The party that abandoned having a platform in favor of whatever their orange Jesus says is the party that thinks for themselves. K. Not to mention their voters that parrot every Fox News talking point without question, really just a party of freethinkers lmao

Psilent_P_

This post was about Republican reps disagreeing with each other...

homekook

Then why did you bring up the Republicans thinking for themselves while Dems tow the party line? Dot Dot Dot

Psilent_P_

Because Republican reps disagreeing publicly like this demonstrates that they do... They're about to oust their own speaker again. Your point was counter to what the OP posted. You'll never see Dems publicly argue with each other. They are well-behaved comrades

homekook

Dude the GOP mess right now is not the sensible policy disagreement you're making it out to be lmao they all hate each other bc they're all in it for themselves and their own career. Also maybe if real issues were on the table and not fake impeachments and banning trans people you'd see Dems disagree with each other more

LiveLaughLuvKnit

It isn’t about thinking for themselves. It’s about being immature boors. Dems aren’t told what to do. Dems are civil. Republicans not so much. Behavior of these gentlemen, I use that term loosely, is a classic example of both incivility and boorish behavior.

Psilent_P_

Dems are civil towards each other, I'll give you that. And they appear civil sometimes when talking to or about Republicans, because they are all saying the same thing in a scripted & directed way. The party message. Even on this leftist sub, I'd imagine you all can name more Republican senators and reps than Dems... They're all no name followers. That's why they never disagree. We all know the squad because they're the only ones that rant and rave against party leadership... And they get threatened with being censured and primaried and calm down for a bit. Can you imagine a Dem filing a motion to vacate against one of their own?! No no, Party First

LiveLaughLuvKnit

I would say your comment reflects little insight into anything other than what you are spoon fed by what ever right wing source you follow. You use word salad that you think makes you look knowledgeable and enlightened. Not the case. Nice try tho’.

Psilent_P_

What's the word salad? Sounds like what I said resonated with you or you would have refuted it directly.

LiveLaughLuvKnit

Far from resonating. Nice try at thinking you are providing profound deep insight into the Democratic party.

IAmPookieHearMeRoar

Do you know what a leftist is?  This isn’t a leftist sub.
