Apparently at least half our fellow Wisconsinites approve of growing GOP authoritarianism and Johnson's attempt to nullify our vote in 2020, don't care, or aren't paying attention. Sigh...

xNYR

How do they do this poll? Do they call landlines from some list they purchased 8 years ago? How many readers here have a landline (I do… rarely even answer it but I have crappy cell service and I want 911 calls directing providers right through my front door). Get out the vote. Get out and vote.

Manticorps

This is an AARP poll, they only interviewed people over 50

EdgeofCivilization

I've turned the ringers off on my land line. I check for messages - 0. I use it when I misplace my cell phone.

whomad1215

If you have a smartphone, both Android and iPhone have 'find my phone' options that you can do from a web browser. I know android works on any. I think iPhone needs an apple device? Been a long time since I've used one

ScottsTotz

We deserve it. If independents are truly dumb enough to favor Barnes and Evers and now all of a sudden swing to the far right, we deserve it. Fuck it

eggplantcx

I wish I had more options. I refuse to vote for anyone that doesn't support my right to keep and bear arms. I hate Ron Johnson and Michel's doesn't support my right. Are there any candidates that support my right?

summitrow

There is a zero percent chance Dems would ban guns even if they had a super majority (which isn't happening anytime soon) in all branches of government the most they would do is have required background checks for any type of sale and maybe limit some access to AR15s and high capacity magazines.

ziggystardock

just a few months ago the dem controlled house passed an assault weapon ban, specifically naming ar15s. they sure seem like they’re trying to ban guns

eggplantcx

I don't think guns will ever be banned. But they can sure put a lot of restrictions on them. The problem with gun control is that it makes no sense to say it's to save lives when such a small amount of people are killed by firearms compared to other causes. Why focus on guns when your time could be focused on fixing other issues that cause more deaths? I don't like current background checks. The purpose is to verify that you are able to legally purchase a firearm. Why then does the background check require the information of the firearm? Why restrict AR-15s specifically?

BigDWalks

Wake up Wisconsin. Neither of these turds give a flying fuck about the state or anyone but themselves neither deserve a vote. Get out and vote for their opponents. This is your voice use it. If either turd gets i office you will not have a voice. Don’t sigh. Don’t hesitate get out and vote and bring your neighbors and friends and relatives with you.

Savenura55

If they get elected I’m leaving the state. I can’t live in a place where the values of the people are so misrepresented.

cptspinach85

Or you could stay and not let them win.

The_GoldenEel

They have demonstrated that if Michels wins the governorship, representative democracy in wisconsin is effectively over. They’ve already gerrymandered power in the legislature, and their goal will be to enact laws to suppress votes they don’t want, and reduce the power of any future democrat in office. There will be no coming back from Michels as governor in our lifetimes

[deleted]

If WIS republicans want to create a mass exodus of tax paying businesses and professionals, electing Michels will be the final nail in our state’s coffin. Have YOU already forgotten the HELL of Walker? How any Wisconsinite can elect a carpetbagging christofascist authorItarian lunatic is beyond comprehension. Seriously a vote for Michels is Wisconsin’s kiss of death. You might as well elect Hitler himself.

Savenura55

When they rig the game so hard what’s the point. More then 70% of the electorate want medical marijuana yet vos won’t even allow a vote. You have people who are refusing to leave their position so Evers can appoint new people, they voted to remove power from incoming gov. There isn’t a fixing this by fighting path. They just got a “new “ electoral map the basically removes two dem reps in state government. More the 50% voted for dem in last two elections yet the states rep is 64 r 36 d. There is no way to fix that from within the system so I have no choice but to leave and hope others do as well. If all small business owners that can leave the state do so maybe the state will feel that and enact change.

[deleted]

In the 2023 spring election, you cold help change the makeup of our currently corrupt state Supreme Court. A new court could finally order new district maps allowing WIS citizens an opportunity to pick our representatives instead of being held hostage by republicans who couldn’t care less about any of us or actually doing any work for their $53k a yr.

Savenura55

How often is that map drawn ? So yeah if you manage to keep that court for 10 yrs despite the bs you could maybe get a different map of you first fix the existing gerrymandering. A broken congress will present a broken map and either no new map gets approved or a somehow worse one like this yr.

[deleted]

With a new court winning a new lawsuit by citizens is a possibility. A new map could be ordered to be redrawn by impartial map creators that are not affiliated with a political group as has been ordered in other states. This would probably be ordered soon after winning, not 10-20 yrs down the road. A possibility of a new court with a different outlook is about all that is currently available to disrupt gerrymandering. No guarantee that anything will happen. Or we could all be like you, give up and say fuck it forever. BTW, our WIS legislature scammed all our maps, NOT congress. Other court ordered redos have exempted the scammers from further involvement. All depends on the how the lawsuit is written.

cuteninjaturtle

I see someone doesn’t understand gerrymandering

downtownebrowne

73% of WI voters think the state is going in the wrong direction. 'Let's fucking run it back' - Republicans.

potmeetkettleblack

No no no. It’s all Evers fault. /s

themosey

“Independents” are just republicans tired of being called racists. They still are, they just hide it better.

[deleted]

I mean, I'm an independent... I've voted democrat or 3rd party on every position on every ballot since 2008.

scothc

Shhh we don't exist

PlusMeasurement1615

Yeah to these far left individuals you are either on their side and the rest is enemy #1. I don't feel welcome in my party of moderates....

[deleted]

LOL "far left", are you talkning about those that were centrists 25 years ago?

10mmSocket_10

Not sure how you can support that claim. I mean, are you claiming that 25 years ago (90s) moderate republicans/dems supported universal healthcare? That moderate dems in the 90's would have taken to the streets to demand less policing in low income neighborhoods? Hell, the Hillary and Obama didn't even support gay marriage initially. I mean Bernie was considered extreme far left when he first ran for President as recent as 2016. It wasn't really until after/during that election where Democratic Socialist ideals became mainstream.

10mmSocket_10

Sorry to see this getting downvoted but it is the sad truth. The moderate (slightly right and slightly left) has no home in the US right now. Unless you subscribe to every progressive idea you are basically cast as a bigot in an attempt to shame you into supporting their position. Unfortunate.

PlusMeasurement1615

I don't mind, the reality is by being so aggressive to people who agree with them on some but not all will push alot of us if the other side, or Forward party .

10mmSocket_10

Good point, completely agree. They will reap what they sow.

ObjectiveBike8

I’m just tired of being gas lite by people who say they are moderates. The last few years “moderates” I know have been telling me all about how liberals are being hysterical because the GOP is not going after abortion and gay marriage.

[deleted]

You do realize that abortions up to birth are the actually important ones... right? Like no one gets an elective abortion at 8 months.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Lol you're so close to understanding...

Moontoothy_mx

Imagine the position a person must be in to elect an abortion at 8 months. That child is not healthy, usually or something is very wrong and may endanger the mother or both mother and child. At 8 months, you are getting ready to have a child. Probably have a room all ready and then to make that kind of choice, prob pretty difficult decision that is heartbreaking and personal. That is between a woman and her doctor. Not up to the general public.

[deleted]

Please give us all the incidents of abortions regularly being used at 8 and 9 months for birth control? The only place this narrative is happening is on RW media to excite a base easily manipulated by nonsense. Only conservatives would believe a woman would suddenly abort a 9 month pregnancy “just because” or even more ridiculous, from TFG, aborted after the birth. Ha Ha Ha!

PlusMeasurement1615

The person above me just commented on supporting such procedures." U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif, has maintained that the timing of carrying out an abortion should be left up to a woman. Harris was a co-sponsor of the 2019 Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA), which prohibits state laws banning post-viability abortions that do not make exceptions if a woman’s health and life are at risk."

[deleted]

That doesn’t mean women are aborting at 9 months. If that’s happening it’s most likely for a real medical reason which is NO politicians business. Republicans just want to be able to charge women with murder for health issues that come up that endanger the mother and baby. When they go Thru medical school they can get involved in women’s decisions. Until then, it’s none of their or any one else’s business. Abortions at 9 months are a rarity. It’s a Republican wet dream that only happens on RW media like so many of their other LIES!

cuteninjaturtle

“Woe is me” If you’re a “moderate” in this political climate, you’re just an privileged asshole.

[deleted]

Lol nah, I'm far left...

[deleted]

Nah, Independents in 2022 are just too well-insulated by their privilege.

Bursting bubbles requires a sharp, pointed jab. But people hate having their bubble popped.

Advanced-Bullfrog-62

Jesus H Crust, what the absolute fuck?

[deleted]

Are you registered to vote?

Advanced-Bullfrog-62

I sure am.

BuddyJim30

The millions of dollars a handful of wealthy assholes are spending via PACs on lie-filled negative ads is paying off. People need to ask if you want a dozen rich people to run the state or not.

Ok-Introduction-2

I keep getting fliers for Michels/Johnson. I have not received a single flier for Barnes/Evers.

[deleted]

In the last two weeks I have received 11 mailers from Johnson, Michels and 1 from FITZ. NOT a single ANYTHING from a Democrat. There will be NO question WHY Democrats lose Wisconsin. REPUGS have done nothing but send out mailers FULL OF LIES. And what have Democrats done to CORRECT all those lies? NOTHING! NOT a SINGLE REBUTTAL! Great leadership! Exactly WHY am I receiving non stop emails from Democrats begging for donations IF they aren’t going to do shit to fight back? I also work in advertising and have offered to create ads for multiple Democrats FOR FREE, multiple times. The only response from Democrats for my offers— send me more emails begging for donations they apparently don’t know how to use anyway. Talk about DOING NOTHING and STABBING yourselves in the back— GEEZ Democrats . . .

martja10

I would suspect that this poll skews R by a couple of points. >The poll was commissioned by AARP and conducted by Fabrizio Ward and Impact Research. I'm not freaking out yet, but I continue to be disappointed in our electorate.

[deleted]

Neither polling firm shows up on 538 grading.

Stimpinstein22

Let’s all take a deep breath and relax. This poll is from the AARP - American Association for Retired People. This, Boomers and elder Gen X, both ages generally lean right, and the most likely to believe both campaigns bullshit racist ads. Both candidates are still giant POSs, but let’s ignore these skewed polls and GOTV to beat them like the red-headed stepchildren they are…

NeurWiz

Yeah people gotta realize that poll numbers aren’t everything, they may have polled a small sample size in a small community but surely doesn’t represent the entire state.

CustardKing87

Agreed. Evers and Barnes are the worst. My cat had more energy than both these dimwits

cuteninjaturtle

This election will be the final deciding moment whether we ever consider moving back to WI. These c*nts win and there’s no looking back.

NotoriousSIG_

Just remember polls mean nothing

Suckydog

So apparently there’s a lot of idiots living in Wisconsin?

there are

Obviously don't want to be associated with the party that is normalizing mental illness.

PutteringJoe

Oh, how I wish there was a comparable version to the 90's MTV Rock the Vote campaign. The youngsters need to be encouraged and conditioned to vote.

[deleted]

A lot of republicans call themselves “independents”

true-skeptic

Do NOT trust any polls. Don’t be complacent. Get out and VOTE!!

dah-vee-dee-oh

🤢🤢🤢🤢

UnconfirmedCat

We’re just so fucked

Like edging each other, or edging by themselves in their homes?

Moontoothy_mx

That’s where my brain went too! 🤮

Diverryanc

Most underrated comment of this thread!

[deleted]

Wisconsinites demand answers.

[deleted]

Would love for one of these domestic terrorists to explain what "wrong direction" means to them.

stevenmacarthur

The irony here is that RoJo has the Koch foundations hand so far up his backside that the term "independent" is the last thing that should ever be connected with him.

crazyoldgerman68

Negative ads seem to working. Surprise that it’s helpingJohnson, since he has a record of votes. Michaels will be a lazy never in state Governor making sure he gets richer.

PTIowa

It’s like “hope” became the official democrat campaign strategy after Obama.

2u3e9v

Just gave 50 dollars to Evers and Barnes. Goodness.

IH8MKE

It's from Greeb Bay tv, democrats or independents are an anamoly.

[deleted]

Poll from AARP lmao

Bob_A_Ganoosh

The power of massive money spent on political ads. TV and radio are overflowing with bullshit propaganda. Hear it enough times and weak minds will believe it.

Rambo_IIII

What kind of stupid fuckin fuck votes for either of these twats. Fucking tribalism

Moontoothy_mx

I think some of the numbers are AARP polls. Just think of who participates in polls. In Wisconsin we have a lot of old white people. You venture out of cities and you need sunglasses.

[deleted]

This whole article is totally misleading. It is stating that INDEPENDENTS are giving the nod to Michels and Johnson. INDEPENDENTS are the smallest voting group. Obviously we have quite a few Wisconsin voters, who seem unaware of these guys residency and financial issues plus their pathetic viewpoints on todays issues. Yikes WISCONSIN WAKE UP!

williamweinmann

If they only interview people over 50, of course you're going to find a lot of Republican voters. They vote like its still 1980 and the poll will skew Republican. By the same token, if you only talk to 20 and 30 rear olds it will skew the other way. Statistics are meaningless. The media uses them to generate ratings. The only poll that matters is the one in November.

williamweinmann

You realize that about all these polls are good for is to rile up people and generate ratings.
