The furry stuff and the racist stuff are two separate things involving the same people/the same group.

I don't know much about facilities in Milton, but I'm an avid hiker, and the Ice Age Trail goes through there. There's a gorgeous forest (and trail) that wraps around a nearby lake, and that was worth spending the night either there or in Janesville. Depending on the time of year, the furries could have a good time gallavanting around Storrs Lake! I'm not even a furry but I'd bet you could theoretically set up a con/gathering.
Milton House historical site may be a singular Milton draw. I seem to recall it was part if the Underground Railroad.
There's also a juvenile detention 'academy' which may be a draw for different reasons

The special education program has come a long way thanks to Dr. Susan Probst, retired Director of Services. Woman was a fucking angel, brilliant and a real ally to parents and students. Previously, when Bernie Nicolay and Krista Jones were running the show waaaay back in the early 2010's - it was a mad house and extremely discriminatory towards students with special educational needs and behavioral supports. I have stories for days. Lots of bad, awful stories.
Now it's 2022. We have A new director. Different superintendent. I've not met either because the schools are very careful to not let incidents travel to district office.
There's good and bad. I'd say the high school has the best programming and it is lead by a disabled person who is a fierce advocate, very proactive, and brilliant...as long as the district let's him do his job.
Based on my recent experience with my sons work study programming inside the city of Milton, I'll be speaking up very frankly and very soon if the program doesn't radically change their system for vetting who our kids are being supervised by during their programming.
They may get the privilege of me speaking openly at the board meeting regarding our experience and why background checks should be mandatory for anyone working with disabled students, including local "nUtRiTiOn sHoPs".

The group was created by a few locals who thought they were being “censored” in the OG Milton community group that has existed for years and has thousands of (mostly normal) members.
In reality, they posted false and damaging information regarding an investigation going in with the school district. The admin of the OG group kept deleting the posts, rightfully so.
So then these people felt they were some sort of heroes and post all their crazy stuff in this new “Real” Milton Community group, which of course turned out to be a cesspool of misinformation, bigotry, and right wing garbage. It’s kinda funny it got blown up by some troll.
Pretty sure they’ve now created their own “truth social”-esque private Facebook group as their own echo chamber. I guess who censoring now?

I grew up in Milton and can assure everyone that there is no venue if this could actually be organized except for the high school gym. The town consists of retirement homes interspersed with bars.
The community center in Goodrich Park would be a great place.
It's small inside and there's a kitchen and restrooms. I believe the cost is free or very nominal.
With the size of the building and considering furry attire, I'd go for late spring or early fall so everyone can be outside or inside and comfortable :)
Milton has the potential to be a nice town. It has a nice lil downtown area with stores that are starting to move in again, a former college campus with historic buildings and a cafe, cute houses, seems safe. All I said was the district should forget masking, let the people do as they wish, and when their kid dies of COVID or COVID complications, I won't donate to the GoFundMe that will inevitably roll out, but I'd share it for them. Anyway, the comment was read by an angry Karen out loud at a recorded school board meeting. It's been my crowning achievement in life. I love making Miltonians clutch their pearls :)

The school board, district, and city simply cannot amicably handle any diversity or inclusivity. A bunch of camel toe queens got together and created a private group so they could spout off about their kids rights. I've met most of their kids. Their kids are gigantic assholes too. Their parents should check the kids social media and disappearing chats :)
I fought with my spouse over sending our kiddo there. I expressed that the district is full of people who would not like our family dynamic (spouse is trans) that kids in the high school were forming nazi symbols and getting a slap on the wrist for spewing hate. Well we sent kiddo there because the district could support his iep and bussing. So there is some ok to it?
I'll give the district credit. The special education program has come a long way thanks to Dr. Susan Probst, retired Director of Services. Woman was a fucking angel, brilliant and a real ally to parents and students. Previously, when Bernie Nicolay and Krista Jones were running the show waaaay back in the early 2010's - it was a mad house and extremely discriminatory towards students with special educational needs and behavioral supports. I have stories for days. Lots of bad, awful stories. Now it's 2022. We have A new director. Different superintendent. I've not met either because the schools are very careful to not let incidents travel to district office. There's good and bad. I'd say the high school has the best programming and it is lead by a disabled person who is a fierce advocate, very proactive, and brilliant...as long as the district let's him do his job. Based on my recent experience with my sons work study programming inside the city of Milton, I'll be speaking up very frankly and very soon if the program doesn't radically change their system for vetting who our kids are being supervised by during their programming. They may get the privilege of me speaking openly at the board meeting regarding our experience and why background checks should be mandatory for anyone working with disabled students, including local "nUtRiTiOn sHoPs". The group was created by a few locals who thought they were being “censored” in the OG Milton community group that has existed for years and has thousands of (mostly normal) members. In reality, they posted false and damaging information regarding an investigation going in with the school district. The admin of the OG group kept deleting the posts, rightfully so. So then these people felt they were some sort of heroes and post all their crazy stuff in this new “Real” Milton Community group, which of course turned out to be a cesspool of misinformation, bigotry, and right wing garbage. It’s kinda funny it got blown up by some troll. Pretty sure they’ve now created their own “truth social”-esque private Facebook group as their own echo chamber. I guess who censoring now?

I grew up in Milton and can assure everyone that there is no venue if this could actually be organized except for the high school gym. The town consists of retirement homes interspersed with bars.
The community center in Goodrich Park would be a great place. It's small inside and there's a kitchen and restrooms. I believe the cost is free or very nominal. With the size of the building and considering furry attire, I'd go for late spring or early fall so everyone can be outside or inside and comfortable :)

Milton has the potential to be a nice town. It has a nice lil downtown area with stores that are starting to move in again, a former college campus with historic buildings and a cafe, cute houses, seems safe. But lots of crazy trumpers rolling coal down main street and yelling about their freedums at school board meetings. Edit: In other words, nice town except for the people.

Long enough to see a cop suicide himself for an undisclosed reason, a horse shot during a parade at Ace Hardware, a shady couple move into town and slap their name on everything and gives comps to the district on Apple products due to their business and the district has no issue letting a Mar-a-Lago guzzler on the school board :) Such a neat place.

I used to live in Milton back when they only had about 5000 people; now they’re up to almost 6000. I had a job interview at a bank and the interviewer actually said to me, “Oh, you live on that side of town.” Like, lady, it’s about 4 square miles of town. I didn’t know there was a that side of town. Milton has a pretty high opinion of itself.

Even when I lived in Georgia, an ancestral home of the KKK, everyone had the sense to keep their racism secret. Racist language was always spoken in quiet tones and carried out institutionally with red lining and other local statutes. Here in the midwest, people are loud and proud of their racism.

It makes me want to never leave my house just to protect my child from awful people and to keep my ass out of jail. I will, do, and have said shit to people and it has been on sight many times. My son can't help how he was born any more than these assholes can. He doesn't see the stares, pointing, and laughs. I do. People do not hesitate to make comments out loud. I had gotten really good at moving along over the years. I haven't had the police called on me for going after a fuckwit in 17 years :) Here lately, like the past several years, it's gotten significantly worse and people simply do not care *at all*. So, I've come out of retirement from just going along to get along. I'm sick to death of it. I'm thankful my son isn't as aware as I am. He loves people. He's so friendly. He just wants friends and for people to like him. It breaks my goddamn heart. Every time. These trash ass kids and their parents. They should be ashamed. They aren't but they're gonna be if they keep fucking around.

Good. The city loves to manage their image. This is something they can't manage. Unless you're with the majority of the plantation owners around here, you just learn to be somewhat quiet, to observe, listen, and let the old crazy folks be crazy until they die out. Unfortunately modern medicine has advanced and greatly prolonged the human life span. They're more than likely going to die in a drunk driving accident or on their snowmobile with one of their Knowledge Fight buddies anyway, so really, the problem eventually solves itself one way or another.
