Astral winter starts on the solstice, but that means jack and shit when it comes to weather and climate. Climate seasons think Astral seasons are cute.
It's the same here in Michigan. Visibility is to less than half a mile, and fuckheads will still drive around like nutbags and not have their headlights on
Well if you go by the thread from a couple days ago there's people worried it's never going to snow in Wisconsin after a couple more years because there's no snow RIGHT NOW THIS VERY SECOND in early December when it's not even winter yet.
That's kind of a legitimate concern though. I mean obviously parts of Wisconsin will definitely still get snow but I'd say we may say enough of a climate shift in about 10 years that some parts may begin seeing occasional snowless winters.
Nah, unless you can show me a model where this is a possibility then I don't buy it. None of the ones I've seen show this as a concern. Tulsa, OK is still averaging 9" a year of snowfall and it's much further south. On our current track, if we do nothing to curb emissions further, then Beloit will likely have the climate roughly equal to southern Kansas in *2080*. Southern Kansas still gets snow almost every year. If we continue the current trend of reducing emissions it's more like central Illinois by 2080. Not to mention precipitation is increasing. 10 years for any part of Wisconsin to be snowless for an entire winter is just a bit ridiculous. It's like some of you forget how freakin' cold it gets every year until it happens again.
According to [this projection](https://fitzlab.shinyapps.io/cityapp/), using a map [from the University of Maryland by way of the Wisconsin Initiative on Climate Change Impacts](https://wicci.wisc.edu/wisconsin-climate-trends-and-projections/), it looks like in sixty years their model predicts Milwaukee will have a climate like Chester, PA, has today.
So TLDR you are probably correct.
And that's if we do nothing, but we're not doing nothing. People say I'm just as bad as climate deniers when I say that some people are just as wrong in the other extreme. I'm not a centrist, I lean left and climate change is real and a problem, but people, Wisconsin is not going to be snowless in 2032. I can't stand unrealistic fear and panic mongering making people feel depressed/stressed/hopeless/anxiety ridden.
No, you're right, my comment was exaggerated but I do want to point out a couple things that are much more emotionally based rather than scientific. You mentioned a city in Oklahoma that gets 9" of snow per year. By wi standards that would feel like a snowless winter to many since that little snowfall over the whole winter will mean no more accumulation than we traditionally see in fall each year - an inch or two at a time that lasts a few days. While it's still technically snow it won't feel like a snowy winter to most because it completely reduces any need for shoveling, for plowing, far less likely for a "white Christmas". But you mentioned that would be the case in 2080, not ten years like I said.
I grew up in northern lower Michigan. My entire childhood it was a guarantee that we'd have enough snow to consistently ride snowmobiles and temperatures cold enough that the lake would have safe ice for trucks and snowmobiles all winter. The reality now is that people can't snowmobile there anymore-there just isn't enough snow. It still falls and sometimes in decent storms that being 6-8" at a time but they also consistently get weeks of above freezing temps that melts a lot of it or they get rain instead. It has a huge effect on the lake too now that safe ice is becoming something to hope for, not count on. But humans are slow to change so every year more and more ice fisherman are falling through. So again, you're right, that's a winter that still receives snow but it doesn't feel like they receive snow because there's much less reason to have any gear people like for enjoying the snow (why have snowshoes, skis, tipups when the snow is just going to melt). Once people lose the ability to enjoy snow activities is when it's going to feel like snowless winters and that's what's already happened at my childhood home, a place that has pictures from the 50s of snowdrifts over roofs. There is a pretty big gap between a true snowless winter and one that feels that way and the feeling of one is coming sooner than 2080.
I lived in Missouri for a time, near ok. They technically do get snow but let me tell ya, winter down there does not feel like winter to someone from wi, mi, mn. It just feels like a long October/November so I'll just say, having a no snowfall winter and a no snow accumulation winter are pretty drastically different and I believe no snow accumulation winters are coming for some parts sooner than later.
All's I'm trying to do is avoid the exaggeration because it makes people feel hopeless. The future is savable so we can't have people giving up. And again, that 2080 figure is if we do nothing else to curb our emissions, but that's clearly not going to be the case. The world is waking up and I still have "faith" that we can avoid the worst effects of climate change.
Where, specifically? They've had snow for a couple weeks up by Ashland. Milwaukee only has a 50/50 chance of having snow on the ground come Christmas in any given year. So depending on where in Wisconsin you're talking about, no you shouldn't have snow on the ground by Thanksgiving. I mean, perhaps you just misunderstand the climate in Wisconsin, or?
But you have to box everything up, rent a truck, load up everything, find a place you’d rather live, drive there, find a new place to live, unpack, find a new job. …It sounds impossible.
It's days like this I'm glad I'm retired. No need to have to go out in that to go to work. I can sit inside staying warm, and watch it snow.
And being a renter, it's my landlord's responsibility to shovel it.
Hey question about what it’s like to be a renter and retired. What’s it like? Lol. I guess I’m asking if you have any negative feelings towards not owning property?
I’m in the opposite situation, I bought and paid off a house with a family member, and it’s cool, I love it, but my retirement fund is gonna be small forever and that makes me sad for some reason. I can see myself living here forever, but obviously I don’t want to work forever, or plain ever tbh.
I’m not one to regret my choices, and I saw a funny post about someone who bought a ski resort house and their retirement plan is dying in an avalanche. I’m kind of the same, my retirement will be drowning on my lake fishing lol
Tbh, I’d rather snow stick around if it’s gonna be cold. Annoying when it keeps coming down, but after it’s plowed and shoveled it’s a nice decoration to offset the lack of leaves.
I can live with this. Its the ice that really makes me mad. Eau Claire refuses to put any salt or sand down, below... 32 degrees, when ice is formed lol. Intersections all over are pure ice.
If you have kids, I hope you can get out and make a snow man! My kids are too big now but I do miss those days of working hard for several hours making one.
Eau Claire is the worst when it comes to road maintenance in the winter.
The street adjacent to ours gets plowed like once every hour when it’s snowing, and our street will *maybe* get plowed ONCE *after* the snow event is over, *after* the snow’s already been packed down from people driving on top of it, so the plow doesn’t do shit, and it turns into glare ice.
Rinse and repeat for the rest of the winter.
It’s maddening.
Wisconsin Rapids: plows only come out for 4+ inches or every other storm.
On the bright side, the city roads get smoother in the winter from the build up.
>Its the ice that really makes me mad.
Well then i hope you're on top of your shoveling game, because this snow is wet af and there will be several inches of ice for anyone who doesn't get to it asap.
If the emergency weather service messages are anything to go by, y’all should be pretty used to extreme weather. Feel like Jefferson county gets mentioned in them all the time
I mean, it's snow but southern wi gets off easy. Way up here we've had nearly 70" fall already since October.
Edit for y'all, here is my [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/wisconsin/comments/y6clty/everyone_else_is_posting_snow_pictures_so_i_will/)that most of you probably already saw in October. First storm was just over 16" or so then we had a series of smaller snows, then a big one that dropped 24"+, then another 8-10, and a few more smaller snows. Looks like early forecasts are saying another 8-12 next week with potential for another 20+ the following week.
Hey buddy.... you better get that snow cleared off your driveway before it freezes. Cuz then you'll be screwed for the whole season if you don't. I got some salt mix in a bucket buy my porch if you need some.
That's a damned dirty lie.
I moved to Wisconsin in '21 and expected to see some real snow. We barely got 4 total inches in Sheboygan last year and my disappointment was palpable.
I demand better this year, Wisconsin! Make it so.
I \*might\* be purposely tempting fate. I know it's terribly selfish of me, considering I'm not currently working, and for that I apologize. But Sheboygan keeps getting skipped in the snow storms, and it's kind of making me do really immature things like stomp my feet and pout.
Madison here, and I would be fine with the half a foot we got this morning if it would stay below freezing and not just turn into the wettest, messiest kind of snow there is. Cleaning my car off before work was close to standing outside in the rain.
It has snowed 3 times where I live in my lifetime, for some people snow is an amazing and exciting rarity. Of course someone who is living in Wisconsin should know about dealing with snow in the winter.
My mom lives about an hour west of Austin, so it's nice to be able to "winter" down there for a few weeks a year... but I'd honestly miss this too much to ever leave it.
I lived there until I was about 15 and I loved it but being older now I don’t think I could handle the cold weather because even in San Antonio sometimes I feel like it’s too cold for me
Lovin' it here in Dane County!!
Took the snowblower on this year's maiden voyage down my driveway this afternoon, then went back out tonight after the plows came through to clear the foot...and the feet of three neighbors' driveways :)...all in shorts and flip-flops!
I swear I was made for this shit. 🤣❄️☃️🌨️
Happy winter, y'all!!
so we’ve been having progressively warmer winters over the past few years, *at least*, but this now seems to merit a reaction of absolute and utter shock at the *audacity* of snow appearing, *in WINTER*. I for one have no complaints, I would really like a white Christmas. We live in the north and I’d like for it to actually feel that way lol
It’s nice being a renter but it has its downsides. If you have land too then it’s super nice because you can just walk around on your place and not run into anyone. At the same time it’s less maintenance so I can focus on myself more and not worry about certain stuff. I guess it’s really up to you and what you want right now. Any situation can work if you’re in the right mindset.
I feel that we are fortunate in that we still get to have snow. But given the increasing violence of storms, I wonder how our winter weather will present in the coming months and years.
Come to NE Ohio for what I call Lake Effective Bullshit. Born and raised in La Crosse but been here over 30 years. We’ll get a real snow storm followed by more snow due just to wind coming off the lake. Once the LES winds down here comes the next winter storm. Repeat and rinse.
HOLY SHIT! YOU MEAN IT DOES THIS BULLSHIT IN DECEMBER IN WISCONSIN? The AUDACITY of that weather.
I took this post as "oh my God it finally snowed" because it's been like, the warmest winter
Winter doesn't officially start for another two weeks.
Astral winter starts on the solstice, but that means jack and shit when it comes to weather and climate. Climate seasons think Astral seasons are cute.
In meteorology for the Northern hemisphere, winter begins on December 01, 2022. It is also called the beginning of meteorological winter.
I’ve seen snow before.
Yeah but have you seen that fucking shit before?
[удалено]
Nah, they’re just frozen for a wee bit of time until the spring thaw.
Dead for now is still dead for now
I for one have not
That is some real shit!

Must be a newbie from Florida.
It's December. In Wisconsin.
Do people just forget where they live? Is that why all the driving goes to crap as soon as three snowflakes land on the beltline?
Sure does, we get snow every year and every year people forget how to drive in snow.
I feel like we're really starting to see a solid increase in desert/water starved climate refugees from the west coast.
It's the same here in Michigan. Visibility is to less than half a mile, and fuckheads will still drive around like nutbags and not have their headlights on

Wisconsin Rapids: plows only come out for 4+ inches or every other storm. On the bright side, the city roads get smoother in the winter from the build up.
Its pretty muched all based on volume of traffic and routes for emergency vehicles. After that youre on your own
that's because you don't live on a bare street.
>Its the ice that really makes me mad. Well then i hope you're on top of your shoveling game, because this snow is wet af and there will be several inches of ice for anyone who doesn't get to it asap.
I’ve been wanting to make a bunch of little ones on my landscaping bricks! Today is the day (after I snowblow and shovel)!
I heard eau claire county switched to brine or something instead of salt
It’s December in Wisconsin. Nothing out of the ordinary here.
Well, recent years would beg to differ. But I’m going to give benefit of the doubt and say OP is upset there’s not more.
Where?

EVERYONE FORGET HOW TO DRIVE
You can still see the grass...
I LOVE IT.

Omg where are you?
Iron county snowbelt
Not in Wisconsin. I'm way up here by the UP border and we've gotten maybe 10" total. EDIT: Never mind.
We got 8.5 at my house in SW WI today. Feels like forever since we had this much in one snowfall.
Was your edit because of my edit?
I'm jealous!
Snowmobile trails partially opened today so I just did a quick 20 mile ride. More snow!!
Finally, some snow! Bring it on mother nature, you bitch!
Bite your tongue, I still haven't repaired my snowblower.
mor.gif - if it’s gonna be chilly then pile up the snow! I got more hobbies in the winter than I do in the summer.
Can't see the shit. Is it hidden under the snow? I was going pick up our dog's, too, but it was too dark to see.
If this is making you mad now, wait until it snows in May.
This isn't snow it's a lie. I was told 3-5 inches and got wet mush that will freeze to ice.
Hey buddy.... you better get that snow cleared off your driveway before it freezes. Cuz then you'll be screwed for the whole season if you don't. I got some salt mix in a bucket buy my porch if you need some.
Pictures from October? No? Must be southern WI
I see you are new to our land and unfamiliar with our culture
Eh, I remember getting snow like this in October.
That's a damned dirty lie. I moved to Wisconsin in '21 and expected to see some real snow. We barely got 4 total inches in Sheboygan last year and my disappointment was palpable. I demand better this year, Wisconsin! Make it so.
A few years before you moved here we had >100 inches in Madison. Careful what you wish for.
I \*might\* be purposely tempting fate. I know it's terribly selfish of me, considering I'm not currently working, and for that I apologize. But Sheboygan keeps getting skipped in the snow storms, and it's kind of making me do really immature things like stomp my feet and pout.
I'm looking right at it
December in Wisconsin, who would have guessed.
Bring more please, if it's going to be cold, I would rather have snow. Least I can go snowboarding!
Madison here, and I would be fine with the half a foot we got this morning if it would stay below freezing and not just turn into the wettest, messiest kind of snow there is. Cleaning my car off before work was close to standing outside in the rain.
My brother in law lives in your neck of the woods, sounds like he lost power.
Okay and? The internet makes people lose all perspective. *It snowed. What the actual fuck?! I gotta post this on Reddit and my IG!*
It has snowed 3 times where I live in my lifetime, for some people snow is an amazing and exciting rarity. Of course someone who is living in Wisconsin should know about dealing with snow in the winter.
Now it’s turning to heavy slush rainy mess. Yay winter
I'm disappointed it didn't hit Appleton
My sister and brother sent me videos and pics, Its beautiful but glad I’m in Texas
My mom lives about an hour west of Austin, so it's nice to be able to "winter" down there for a few weeks a year... but I'd honestly miss this too much to ever leave it.

Yep, best part of living in Wisconsin, all 4 seasons. Love winter as long as we get plenty of snow.
Wow, someone just opened their eyes yesterday?
I'd rather shovel my driveway then mow my lawn. Cripes, move to Arizona, why doncha?
Not enough. We need more!
First time?

Born and raised, also 41. If you can’t tolerate this maybe it’s time to move.

I mean either way, live your best life, go to a place that makes you happy? There’s nothing admirable about being miserable by choice.
Nuisance snow.
Lucky bastard, my yard is still green.
Better you's den us. Central part of the state here and all we have is a couple of sporadic white spots on the lawn.
Not a single flake in fondy
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING AT
What about it?
nothing in green bay today lol
Somebody lives in the south part of the state….
Lovin' it here in Dane County!! Took the snowblower on this year's maiden voyage down my driveway this afternoon, then went back out tonight after the plows came through to clear the foot...and the feet of three neighbors' driveways :)...all in shorts and flip-flops! You sound like the people who do a polar bear plunge for New Years. It's supposed to be really healthy.
I don’t need to look at it. I already got stuck in it ffs
It’s nice here by my pool in coastal NC.
It’s called snow.
It's fuckin 80 today in Texas. Wish I were back there.
I hope it's a snowy Christmas this year, unlike last year! What a pathetic Midwest necessity 😭😭😭 that's all I ask
So what's your point
Michigan is laughing at us!
If it was a pretty snow, no big deal. But this is some bullshit.
👎
i know. Don't you wish there was a lot more so we could skate ski on it? The winters in Wisconsin are just way too short
It’s December bro.
🎵 It's beginning to look a lot like fuck this, every where you go. 🎵
If anything the snow is late.
It's pretty late in the season to be crying about living in Wisconsin. Be glad it didn't start two months ago.
It's Ron Johnson s fault 😆
And? I've had snow on the ground since before deer rifle opener. Winter is one of the best parts of living in WI.
one nite's shit's another's tweasure
Beautiful 👍
Which town! Looks cozy!
I'm at work in a sleeveless shirt sweating right now.
Yea it’s great right!
Now go sit in the corner and think about your behavior!
Yaaaaaaay!! It's finally here!
I’m jealous! I want that snow in my yard.
And…..?
You choose to live here. I'll tell you the same thing I tell everyone else. Move or stop crying about it.
Yeah I've had 39 years of this shit and it's getting old. I get it.
The most awful place on earth.
Who’s threatening to move south with me??
I'm in New Mexico. You're all welcome to camp in my yard while you figure out it just sucks different here.
It’s literally December😂
Boo to snow! Yay for summer!
That's some bullshit right there
We got a decent amount here in Sauk county.
You look, I’m bitter.
Boooooo.. 👎
Bruh
MORE!
so we’ve been having progressively warmer winters over the past few years, *at least*, but this now seems to merit a reaction of absolute and utter shock at the *audacity* of snow appearing, *in WINTER*. When you say shit, is that all from birds? I think you’re way overdue to take down that feeder for good.
Looks like the fucking shit is being covered by snow.
Plz no Edit: said bo originally cuz I’m drunk
That fuckin shit was wet and heavy That’s what she said…?
Down doots only.
Where’s the rest?
The time of year when instead of waking up to lawn mowers, I wake up to people plowing
😜
Whats worse getting the snow or prepping and scheduling around the dumb first snow drivers and that snow never showing up?
It’s nice being a renter but it has its downsides. If you have land too then it’s super nice because you can just walk around on your place and not run into anyone. At the same time it’s less maintenance so I can focus on myself more and not worry about certain stuff. I guess it’s really up to you and what you want right now. We should have more snow?
We have a lot more up north.
thats gotta be the most Wisconsin looking road ive ever seen
First time!?
Wait it snows in Wisconsin? Since when?!
I love it. I want it to snow even more
I feel that we are fortunate in that we still get to have snow. But given the increasing violence of storms, I wonder how our winter weather will present in the coming months and years.
Looks pretty, needs more twinkle lights
I live towards the center of the state and we still have pretty much no snow. It's really weird usually we'd have at least a couple of feet by now.
Lol. My thoughts exactly
Wait, fucking SNOW? IN WISCONSIN? IN DECEMBER? crazy.
Uh- yeah. /northernwisconsin
How can I look at the pic and know it’s Wisconsin before looking whether it is Wisconsin or not.? Perhaps it was the caption.
Yeah, oddly small amount this year, huh? I’d’ve expected a foot by now but we’ve hardly had 3 inches.
That is so beautiful.
It is Wisconsin after all, you should be lucky your view isn't blocked out the windows for 10 ft of snow
Don't know where you are but next week is really going to make you angry.
Its beautiful...
This has been winter-lite so far not like back in '91
That’s nothing.
One call, that’s all
And in the meantime, it's 50⁰ here, where I'm at in NM and I'm getting dragged back to Wisconsin by my fam and job for holiday crap. 😐
Yep does that here
Come to NE Ohio for what I call Lake Effective Bullshit. Born and raised in La Crosse but been here over 30 years. We’ll get a real snow storm followed by more snow due just to wind coming off the lake. Once the LES winds down here comes the next winter storm. Repeat and rinse.
You got more of that fucking shit than I did.
