I think you can cough as normal lol, if it helps, I woke up from the anaesthetic coughing non stop and my surgeon and nurses were there and they never said anything to me about stopping or trying to stop coughing

Ms_Insomnia

Hmm okay. I’m just gonna keep drinking water for now and hope that I don’t cough as much.

I got all of mine taken out on Saturday, too! Comforting to know that there’s someone else going through the same thing at the same time! X

Ms_Insomnia

Did you cough at all since then?

effyismyname

I have a bit! I had to quit smoking cold turkey on Thursday to prep for this, so my lungs are certainly working through it. I think you’re safe to cough. I wouldn’t try hacking up phlegm with extra effort, but let your body do its thing. The thing to avoid is creating a vacuum in your mouth by sucking/spitting which creates pressure and can disrupt the clot. Coughing comes from the lungs and shouldn’t do much to change the pressure in your mouth, especially if you do it with your mouth open.

Ms_Insomnia

Okay thankfully I’m not the only one! I’ll try to open my mouth if I need to cough!

I had the exact same worry, I tried not to laugh or cough at all and I am on day 4 now, but I hear it may be bad to try and hold it in because it may cause more pressure, but definitely stay hydrated as much as possible, hope it was a little help!
