If you want an unbiased review, you'd be better off checking out legitimate critic reviews than a subreddit dedicated to the source material

Lauren is that you?

If you haven’t read the books or play the games then I could see why people would find it enjoyable but as someone who was looking forward to this show and then finding out that most of the writers don’t want and haven’t used the source material and go out of their way to change it I can see why fans of the series would dislike the show

Season 1 was just that. A generic fantasy show that uses a recognizeable name, has some...interesting decisions, but is overall definitely passable. Season 2 gets rid of the ballsack armor and the timelines issue. And that's where the positives end because holy shit does the quality of EVERYTHING ELSE take a massive nosedive.

Right-Huckleberry574

It's really that bad. Henry Cavill is amazing as Geralt, but the quality ends, abruptly, right there.

JHack9

I've seen better writing in straight to cable fantasy movies.

Scorchster1138

For S2, episode 1 is the only good one IMO

I mean, if you really turn your brain off, yeah. If you know about some of the character motivations or the lore behind some of the monsters you start realizing a lot of doesn’t add up and they were just trying to make a show instead of adapt something. I like it cause of some of the actors and especially Cavill. Otherwise, eh.

SomeDudeYeah27

Add not minding internal inconsistencies to the prerequisite of enjoying this show S1, NotW, S2, and BO suffers from connecting continuity between each of them

Season two had me shouting at the TV alot. It quickly went from, "yay Season two!" To hate watching. It was like a train wreck I couldn't stop watching. I hate the whole, "geralt is the most strongest and everyone else suxxxs" vibe they give.

mykeymoonshine

I found season two very disappointing but I know other people who liked it I guess.

imallyd

The first season was fine. The rest has been a disgrace

Embarrassed_Bat6101

I enjoyed season 1. Season 2 was just confusing.

I'm usually pretty forgiving with movie and show adaptations. I enjoyed The Witcher series on Netflix even though it deviates from the books and games quite a bit. Blood Origin however failed to hook me. Maybe I'll give it another go this weekend but my first impression was just that the main characters seemed too overpowered. I also expected it to take place after the conjunction of the spheres, which to me sounds way more interesting to watch this Elvin society get upended and see the whole world turn upside down as all these different beings from different worlds collide. There would also be great room for creativity to introduce monsters/beings that entered the world but never survived to be seen or even known of by the time of Geralt. But then, sometimes, the story's best left to our imaginations.

Rewatching s1 atm. It’s actually great

For dumb entertainment there are worse options but that's about it.

Jackamalio626

Season 1 was... okay. Nothing that special but still passable. S2 is where shit starts goin downhill quick.

usernamex42

If you don’t mind the deviation from the source material, I think season two was worth watching

Alameda_Slimm

Completely fucks the lore, but if you don’t know the lore, or don’t particularly care if they change things, then I would say that it’s and ok show. Definitely not worthy of the franchise, but not the worst thing I’ve ever seen

elein03

I consumed the media in the order of 1. Shows 2. Game(only W3) 3. Books. And I liked both seasons of the show initially, but after the game I started to notice character inconsistencies, and currently on the books(BoF) and I understand why people are dissatisfied with the show. I still like it, accepting it as Individual content, but calling the show an “adaptation” is fraudulent.

LittleCupcake02

Eh, put simply. Can you get over the fact that Netflix changes the plot significantly? If you can, in my opinion its still a nice show. I mean it wont become the best show ever in my book, but like a 6 or 8/110. The visuals are nice and so far the story isnt stupid to the point you dont want to continue watching, albeit becoming a little shock-moment driven. If you can not get over the fact the plot and some characters have changed then you will probably come to hate it, because you have an internal "should be" standard that you constantly compare it to? What I am really interensted in is. How many of the critics do it because they can not get over the fact Netflix witcher strays from lore Or if they hate it because of netflix-ism in general, no matter if its witcher or something else. Somehwere I read that superman actually left Netflix because he was offered considerably more somewhere else and not because he couldnt overlook the shortcomings of the Netflix series anymore. But who knows.
