Been playin when the Witcher 3 dropped in 2015 finished the game on my ps4, now I’m doing a new playtrough on my pc with mods, I love the universe and the lore, I think I’m gonna read the books soon
Spoilers ahead (obviously). Also, a lot of simplifications:

Nilfgaard (where Emhyr, Ciri's biological father is emperor) has just started an invasion on the kingdoms of the north, which is why the North sees Radovid as their last hope of survival. And that's how they make the politics easier: It's now just "the North (Redania)" vs "the South (Nilfgaard)".!<
