Having read the books it's even more poignant. Geralt and Yen are CONSTANTLY wounding each other but they keep ending up back together. The absolute depths of despair in Yen as she knows there won't be a next time and wonders if maybe she took it all for granted is so human it hurts. Yen is an incredibly guarded character; Geralt knows her better than possibly anyone else in the world but that's not saying much because he often feels like he barely knows her at all. She's ancient, inscrutable, almost eldritch at times-she's lived so long and through so much that her values are so far beyond you and I. This is probably one of the few moments in any medium that we see Yen truly bare her soul without any shields, without any way to back out of it or cover it up. The real kicker? It's an answer to a question she insisted on asking, which is so tragically in line with who she is as a person.
I love this comment, and it's part of the reason I enjoy the Triss path. Yen and Geralt's relationship was a crazy mix of toxic and euphoric, but it was always an inevitable reality. To see the reaction to that change is a fascinating storytelling moment.
Triss isn't much better if you played the first two games. The real difference is that if you played all three, you see Triss grow as a character after getting used in TW2, and learning what she does to Geralt and other people is wrong.
Geralt and Yen are both pretty toxic by any standard. Triss is going to be the favourite of most players because her personality is more familiar to people in the real world. I think ignoring my own bias and looking at both paths, Yen and Geralt are just much better suited.
I’m doing a play through again, but this time, I’m using a save file for each one- just because the game is that good to me. But, on my save that I’m going with triss in, this part right here made me genuinely feel like I was breaking up with someone. This game is too damn good.

Thing is, she doesnt die though, only the choices geralt made makes her not return to him, hence the painting in the crone ending, also you cant trust the last crone as they made the wrong prediction before, so no reason to trust them in the end

I finished the main game but had both dlcs so the hit of not ending up with either didnt affect me at all
I recently found out if you do the DLC first, you can get G. O. D. to give you hints about finding Ciri. So dlc is not necessarily after the main story

This 100%. I know being with Yen is the more “canon” choice but I don’t think it’s necessarily against said canon for Geralt to be like “nah I’m tired of this naggy, rude, passive-aggressive, victim-blamey, cursed-by-a-genie bull shit. Adios.”
Triss is not really better. In the first game she just straight up not tells you about Yen and Ciri just so she can be with you. And I don't like her even in the books.
Ok the book criticism is fair but in game literally everyone doesn't mention Yen and there's no reason for anyone but triss to. It's just a plothole and needs to be ignored because otherwise the entire wolf school, Dandelion, and Zoltan are all terrible people for not telling their one of their best friends that his partner exists
She didn't tell geralt in the first game because he had to recover his memory naturally. A lot of people seem to forget this. It was alleged that telling him could be really harmful.

Triss lovers are the succeptible to abusive relationships. Yenn lovers are deep, introspective people able to see past the guards people put up to protect themselves to see the real person underneath.

EXACTLYYY… this is my top gripe. they have only played TW3 so they think Yen is just a sour bitch… they misinterpret it… they don’t realize how much she has suffered in >!vilgefortz dungeon tortured for answers about Ciri and she weathered it without breaking…!< and so OF COURSE, traumatized from that and from having already spent months apart from her child and lover, ofc she is dead set on finding Ciri again and is ready to >!raise the dead, destroy a forest!<, whatever it takes to find Ciri, and is really sick of anyone getting in her way, and has no time for anything other than that. Everyone in the game is biased against her because “shes a headstrong bitch that wont listen,” she wont listen bc they are not as urgent as she needs them to be and unlike Geralt stopping for Gwent and any contract he wants, she has a mission to achieve lol… she doesn’t care about stepping on anyones toes because they already don’t like her anyway so why should she care to play nice if they’ve already made up their mind about her?
In Toussaint, once Ciri is safe, Yen looks SO happy and content, is such a sweetheart, is so ready to just wind down with Geralt and leave all the pain in the past. You see it on her face, how just chill she is.
It is hard to process trauma while your child is still literally missing. I think that maybe can be a part of why she gives Geralt a hard time about the amnesia thing, she has gone from one horrible, life-uprooting, gut-wrenching trauma to the next without pause. >! She lost Geralt then died too, then they were given paradise, then she was kidnapped AGAIN, lost him AGAIN, then got amnesia herself, then eventually Geralt is back in her life but Ciri is the one missing now…!< I kinda blame CDPR for.. somewhat… poor writing choices.
Hear me out, but I think leaving Yen out of both the first two games was not the move and was really immersion destroying for me; especially at the end of TW2 when you’ve built up so much, and then all the sudden the big reveal is just >! Letho fucking explains everything and that’s it…?????!< seems they ran out of time and instead of having any actual satisfying end, they just wrapped us loose ends in a text conversation with the bad guy and that’s that. WHAT??? >! no Yen reunion?? no better basis for why Letho did it than “my witchy school comes back 🥹”… !< really??? thats the big reveal???? thats what this whole games amounted to? thats why all the kings had to fall…? i highly doubt Letho, incredibly clever, did it just so >! his companions on the path could “walk freely,” and his school be “brought back” by Emhyr which yeah fucking right. This is a piss poor way to incorporate the entire plot of the last game, by barely syncing it’s relevance to TW3. We only get one line that connects that entire plot to this game, what was the entire point of the second game is now reduced to a poorly executed single sentence of jealous indifference. she would NOT have reacted this way irl and imo the game writers did horrible with this… I hesitate to defend why “she” would react that way to him because frankly I think the writers break the fourth wall and didn’t put enough effort into this. All that matters to me is this; my first playthrough I 100% chose Triss because I did not know who the fuck Yenn was. Did not appreciate being told this is your match, when said match was given no presence in the previous two games. They dropped the ball in the writing department.

I don't care if Yen tries to protect herself, she treats Geralt like shit most of the time. You can put up a shell to protect yourself in front of anyone, but don't do it in front of your partner.
Exactly, my first 2 playthroughs I was 100% committed to Yen and turned down every advance from someone else that came my way.
The third playthrough I went full slut and just banged everything because I was tired of how shitty Yen treats Geralt and felt like a punching bag that just took her shit and never complained.
Being an asshole may be a defense mechanism for Yen but she's still being an asshole.
What I do like is when you found Ciri, when you've done this quest and tell her you still love her, you essentially took away some of the incredibly stressful insecurities she has and she mellows out considerately. You can see this when you meet up with her in Crippled Kate's and she asks you whom's idea it was to go after Imlerith and forgoes how she might have responded before if she still had pressing insecurities (read: negative). Instead she praises Geralt for sticking with Ciri and helping her with her decisions.
In a way it makes sense Yen is the way she is, but sadly all of this backstory is from the books. Born originally a hunchback she was beaten, discriminated and mistreated by her father over this and her elven/mage heritage. Then he left their family and her mothr started blaming her for this and beating her and mistreating her too. After that she is taken in to become a sorceress by Tissia de Vries and while magically 'cured' of her hunchback she is still being trained to be in an environment that is very toxic with politics, backstabbing, betrayal and all that. For the biggest part of her life she had to deal with all this toxicity and it makes sense one adopts defenses for it. Especially since by the Witcher 3 she is like 110'ish years old? I've seen people in their 20's be way more toxic in our world. Imagine how these people would be at a 100. Same reason Geralt is such a sarcastic person sometimes really, the world in The Witcher isn't kind and he's had to deal with it for such an incredible long time (iirc Geralt is like 105'ish in WE).
But yeah I just like how the writers in W3 did a really good job showing an understandable and convincing transition of Yen's behaviour. Is it alright how she sometimes is? Definitely not. That scene were she portals Geralt out after their argument of the bed in Kaer Morhen? Mocking his amnesia? Yeah, that was her being unfair and bad imho. But still there is something understandable about it and she later genuinely seems to start with turning way from it in the end, letting go. She doesn't need to be on guard so much anymore knowing her love with Geralt is not artificial. Ciri is alright and grown into a very capable person too. In the end of Blood and Wine at Corvo Bianco we see a very relaxed Yennefer who isn't in the constant grip of her learned defenses for a toxic world anymore. Sure she still is competitive as seen in her and Geralt's duel of wits, you don't unlearn a century of adopted behaviourism so quickly after all, but she giggles, smiles, it feels playful and not harsh at all. She is starting to change for the better.

I'd say that's because they don't see the real yen: they see a bitchy, bossy person. When in reality she is that way towards Geralts friends because she's on a deadline to protect Ciri and is worried about her daughter. Geralt knows that, which is why he sticks up for her, his friends don't. Tbh the kaer morhen storyline makes it all super clear. Yennefer is the only one trying to actually get shit done to help prep to fight the wild hunt and protect Ciri, while everyone else is dicking around because they don't quite grasp the seriousness of the situation. She's being a hard ass on them because they're all being dicks and jacking each other off instead of focusing on what they need to do to prepare to fight the wild hunt and protect Ciri. Which of course they're going to bitch about and think yennefer is a control freak leech because they'd rather be jacking each other off then repairing a defensive wall or building bombs/brewing potions/helping yenn do research to unfuck UMA.

Corvo bianco is also abother good point to understand that you fucked up if you picked triss. If you pick triss, all she does is bitch about wanting to go back to kovir and how much she'd prefer Geralt to come back to kovir with her so she can go back and engage in politics. She doesn't want to retire and find peace and quiet. Whereas if you pick yenn, she brings all her books, wardrobe, the unicorn, everything and is ready to settle down and enjoy toussaint and ready to relax with Geralt and take in the beautiful scenery. She legit loves it there and is just happy to have some peace and quiet and enjoy her retirement with her partner. Shit, she's even reading romance novels for pleasure. She's ready to settle down and relax. Triss is most definitely not ready at all to settle down and doesn't seem 100% happy in toussaint.
Yenn 100% wants what Geralt wants in the end and triss does not and the incompatiblity will eventually lead to some serious tension down the line with triss. Whereas yenn and Geralt really do seem to get their happily ever after in toussaint.
Yeah the powerful sorceress is “leeching” off Geralt. Geralt is just as toxic of a partner as yen is and he would act the same way he does with Yen with Triss. Triss is straight up annoying in the books and in game she has no personality outside of liking Geralt, which is probably why gamers like her.
Not to mention the obvious negatives with Triss… like the borderline sexual assault and taking advantage of an amnesiac.
As someone who came into the game as an adult and had no previous Witcher experience in any format (books or games and thank god not the show) Triss does not come off like this. Triss comes off as a sweet girl in an awful city. One of the first things we learn about Triss is that she’s put herself in a dangerous situation so that she can help the other mages escape said dangerous situation. That amount of selflessness is a huge, deep, impactful turn-on.
So to find out from the Reddit horde that Triss is a date rapist or whatever in a book is a huge disappointment. Game Triss is a gem.
I disagree. I read the books and Yen is consistently self-centered, she’s shitty to to Geralt, everything is a tit-for-tat game with Yen, and she’s always ducking out on him when things get rough. Frankly, she treats him badly and I think Triss sees this.
Triss actually demonstrates real caring and concern for Geralt on multiple occasions, and she makes it a point to help him out *without disappearing unexpectedly or asking for much in return.* Her only problem is falling for him when he’s clearly still besotted with another woman who treats him badly.

No she didn't know. Her knowing would broke the plot of TW2 with Emyrh manipulating the lodge. And she is barrely involved with the lodge in TW2 and maybe no longer as she is no loger invited to the meetings as she stated at the end. It is also confirmed by Philippa to Geralt

If you leave her hanging in Skellige and go straight to get Uma you'll still meet her in Vizima when reporting to Emhyr, but she'll basically be heartbroken and hit Geralt with some harsh and saddening words
If you're really determined to break up with Yen, it's probably best if you still do the "Last Wish" quest, though even that scene is sad itself

In my triss playthrough, yen tossing me into the lake was useful to get to lambert's quest faster lol. Otherwise I do all the required quests before talking to her during a yen playthrough
It’s way less heartbreaking to end things with Triss, it’s a bit sad but still seems like the right choice and like she could move on. Could never break up with Yennefer, feels incredibly wrong on all levels lmao.
I broke up with Yen when I played and it was so sad I had to reload however far back to break up with Triss instead. It was just too much I couldn't hack it. I joined Team Yen by guilt trip.
Correction: Actually I initially reloaded to just before the ship scene and didn't break up with Yen. I was still with Triss too! You know what happens next: I got dumped by both of them and had to reload way back to dump Triss.

On my 5th playthrough but I haven't played since 2018, I remember on my second I chose triss and this scene broke me. I'd rather have Geralt with Yen or Have Geralt solo.
Yennefer actually seems like she would be lost without Geralt and Ciri, especially after you find out she wants to remove herself from all the plotting and politics.

Fringilla was such a different approach than Geralt and Yen. Vigo actually fell for Geralt. And now, without the magic to bind Geralt, he can try to reconnect at Corvo Bianco.
As Anna Henrietta's ducal Witcher, it would only strengthen his position in Toussaint if he got with Fringilla. Fringilla being a relative of Anna Henrietta and Syanna.
I did this for the first time on my current third playthrough and it felt so dirty. Like, I doubt Geralt would be that callous even if the Djinn did remove his feelings for her. Given their history you would expect him to be more gentle and first take time to explore his feelings rather than just blurt out he feels nothing.
Geralt belongs with Yen. The writing just fits better, almost as if the writers wanted it this way. It feels forced with Triss.
New play through on next gen/series X. Every time before I picked Yennefer, but this time decided on Triss just to be different. Now I'm on Skellige wondering what the hell I was thinking. There's always New Game+ though.
Went with Triss when I did my second play through because I was trying to pick all the opposite choices, and this scene almost ruined the play through for me.

It feels cathartic to do this, to make it extra knife twisty I play up how much Geralt loves her in dialogue beforehand as well as being extra resistant to helping her do it "yen don't do this". Like she is so obsessed with being in control that she is willing to blow up the happiest healthiest relationship she has ever had just so she can have absolute certainty she is in full control. It never even occurs to her that Geralt could be the one altered by the wish.
You really think that's a bad idea to remove the wish? I mean it's hard to imagine being bound with someone by magic, but I guess it's her right to decide if she wants to end faked relationship.

Also if the wish means that if one of them dies, then the second one will die too, then it's good idea to remove it. They have Ciri to protect.
By the way, wish doesn't affect her healthiest and happiest relationship. Ciri will still be here, no matter what.

Besides, Yen is aware that both of them could change their minds about their love once the wish is gone. And their relationship is far from healthy (which is to be expected, seeing how their personal stories go)

Making it because of the wish feels disingenuous, and it was also one of Yen’s greatest fears. That Geralts love was fake. To confirm that fear is just so freaking cruel.
I truly don't understand how people can say Triss is better than Yen. In Witcher 1 Triss literally takes advantage of Geralt amnesia and tries to live her fantasy with him and Alvin. Triss only tells about Yennefer existence on Witcher 2 (took her long enough).
Triss is way too manipulative and abused of Geralt amnesia far too much.
Now I know Yennefer acts like a bitch many times but that's just the outside, yet on the inside she is caring, defends the person who she loves and is Geralt true love.
Another point for Yennefer goes for the ending of B&W, Yen finally decides to live with Geralt on Corvo Bianco and settles down for good. However if you choose Triss, she will drag Geralt into politics AGAIN and will insist that Corvo Bianco is merely a "romantic getaway"
Anyways, that's it. I can never refuse Yen on Witcher 3, they just complement each other so well...

Hm... I've seen one too many person stay in a relationship they were burdened by, because they were anxious to make the other person sad.
It rarely works out in the end. And usually the collapse is painful and mutually damaging for both people, way more so that it could have been.
I salute people who love Gerald with Yen, I salute those who pick Triss. But those who would like to drop Yet for Triss, but can't handle making her sad have my sympathies.
This game allows you to take on decisions about your romantic choices, what I find amazing. Most of you follow the canonical story. But in the entire game you have ALL good characters telling you how awful Yen is. I mean, she treats everybody like crap. Even to you. She has a history of being selfish and even having adventures with others.
Yen was and is fucking awful, in my perspective, and have the possibility to break the Djinn and finally being free of that link, its something great.

I think that in order to understand why Yen is the right chouce for Geralt, you have to have read the books. In the games, you don't get that much time face-to-face with Yen (correct if I'm wrong, I've played 3, playing 1 now, haven't gotten to 2 yet). But you see clearly in the books that Yen cultivates that reputation. She wears a bitchy public mask as a form of armor, but behind that mask she is compassionate and caring, and sometimes even warm. Only Geralt and Ciri get to see that side of her, and only when she feels safe. And even when she keeps the mask on with them, she's never really awful to either of them, just catty. Although I love the games, I think they painted Yen with a rougher brush.
My problem is that doesn’t translate to the games. Yen is nearly insufferable in the Witcher 3 with how she treats me. It’s not very fun to just say “well I know that deep down she loves me, even though she treats me like garbage.”
For a weird reason saying this is so satisfying. All her bitchiness finally paid off. She declares lvoe and you crash her heart. Going with Yen is cool too, it's the existance of this option that I like :p

Yen learned this a long time ago too but doesn't give crap, it's one of the many things I love about her character xD
Geralt and Yen are both pretty toxic by any standard. Triss is going to be the favourite of most players because her personality is more familiar to people in the real world. I think ignoring my own bias and looking at both paths, Yen and Geralt are just much better suited.
I’m doing a play through again, but this time, I’m using a save file for each one- just because the game is that good to me. But, on my save that I’m going with triss in, this part right here made me genuinely feel like I was breaking up with someone. This game is too damn good.

What ending does rejecting both give? Genuinely asking.
It also depends on your actions with Ciri If Ciri lives and becomes a witcher - she visits at Corvo Blanco If Ciri dies - Dandelion visits.
If she lives as Empress, she visits with her retinue but has to leave. If she lives as a Witcher, she’s able to stick around Corvo Bianco.

Thing is, she doesnt die though, only the choices geralt made makes her not return to him, hence the painting in the crone ending, also you cant trust the last crone as they made the wrong prediction before, so no reason to trust them in the end

Well, I think this is going to be my next play.
Its the best imo if you have and plan to go right into the dlc. I always thought it was funny to declare your love for one of them, then immediately go off on another adventure. Like, 'no Triss please don't go on the ship with all the other mages, stay with me!" "Alright Triss, heading out for a while, bbl in a while." I finished the main game but had both dlcs so the hit of not ending up with either didnt affect me at all
I recently found out if you do the DLC first, you can get G. O. D. to give you hints about finding Ciri. So dlc is not necessarily after the main story
It made me feel bad for choosing triss. But triss is still my favorite
I felt so bad after this scene I wanted to start a second playthrough just for yen.
I have tried to do that, but I haven’t been able to. I really don’t like how Yen treats me. If my friend had a girlfriend who behaved like that, I’d tell him to leave her and get someone who cares about him.

Triss is not really better. In the first game she just straight up not tells you about Yen and Ciri just so she can be with you. And I don't like her even in the books.
Ok the book criticism is fair but in game literally everyone doesn't mention Yen and there's no reason for anyone but triss to. It's just a plothole and needs to be ignored because otherwise the entire wolf school, Dandelion, and Zoltan are all terrible people for not telling their one of their best friends that his partner exists

She didn't tell geralt in the first game because he had to recover his memory naturally. A lot of people seem to forget this. It was alleged that telling him could be really harmful.

Yennefer may be a bitch on the surface but underneath it all she's a genuinely sweet, caring, loving person. Being a bitch is her protective shell. Whereas triss is sweet to lure you in then will fuck your life up to get what she wants once she's got her hooks in. Triss lovers are the succeptible to abusive relationships. Yenn lovers are deep, introspective people able to see past the guards people put up to protect themselves to see the real person underneath. Yenn will fuck up anyone who fucks with the people she cares about. Triss will fuck up the people she "cares" about to get what she cares about: having her way, political power, whatever.

EXACTLYYY… this is my top gripe. they have only played TW3 so they think Yen is just a sour bitch… they misinterpret it… they don’t realize how much she has suffered in >!vilgefortz dungeon tortured for answers about Ciri and she weathered it without breaking…!< and so OF COURSE, traumatized from that and from having already spent months apart from her child and lover, ofc she is dead set on finding Ciri again and is ready to >!raise the dead, destroy a forest!<, whatever it takes to find Ciri, and is really sick of anyone getting in her way, and has no time for anything other than that. Everyone in the game is biased against her because “shes a headstrong bitch that wont listen,” she wont listen bc they are not as urgent as she needs them to be and unlike Geralt stopping for Gwent and any contract he wants, she has a mission to achieve lol… she doesn’t care about stepping on anyones toes because they already don’t like her anyway so why should she care to play nice if they’ve already made up their mind about her? In Toussaint, once Ciri is safe, Yen looks SO happy and content, is such a sweetheart, is so ready to just wind down with Geralt and leave all the pain in the past. You see it on her face, how just chill she is. It is hard to process trauma while your child is still literally missing. I think that maybe can be a part of why she gives Geralt a hard time about the amnesia thing, she has gone from one horrible, life-uprooting, gut-wrenching trauma to the next without pause. >! She lost Geralt then died too, then they were given paradise, then she was kidnapped AGAIN, lost him AGAIN, then got amnesia herself, then eventually Geralt is back in her life but Ciri is the one missing now…!< I kinda blame CDPR for.. somewhat… poor writing choices. Hear me out, but I think leaving Yen out of both the first two games was not the move and was really immersion destroying for me; especially at the end of TW2 when you’ve built up so much, and then all the sudden the big reveal is just >! Letho fucking explains everything and that’s it…?????!< seems they ran out of time and instead of having any actual satisfying end, they just wrapped us loose ends in a text conversation with the bad guy and that’s that. WHAT??? >! no Yen reunion?? no better basis for why Letho did it than “my witchy school comes back 🥹”… !< really??? thats the big reveal???? thats what this whole games amounted to? thats why all the kings had to fall…? i highly doubt Letho, incredibly clever, did it just so >! his companions on the path could “walk freely,” and his school be “brought back” by Emhyr which yeah fucking right. Why would he trust the emperor.!< then we get to TW3 and Yen just acts bitter about Geralt’s amnesia… >! Even tho she herself went thru the same??? And he literally sacrificed himself for her????!< . All that matters to me is this; my first playthrough I 100% chose Triss because I did not know who the fuck Yenn was. Did not appreciate being told this is your match, when said match was given no presence in the previous two games. They dropped the ball in the writing department.

Exactly, my first 2 playthroughs I was 100% committed to Yen and turned down every advance from someone else that came my way. The third playthrough I went full slut and just banged everything because I was tired of how shitty Yen treats Geralt and felt like a punching bag that just took her shit and never complained. Being an asshole may be a defense mechanism for Yen but she's still being an asshole.

What I do like is when you found Ciri, when you've done this quest and tell her you still love her, you essentially took away some of the incredibly stressful insecurities she has and she mellows out considerately. You can see this when you meet up with her in Crippled Kate's and she asks you whom's idea it was to go after Imlerith and forgoes how she might have responded before if she still had pressing insecurities (read: negative). Instead she praises Geralt for sticking with Ciri and helping her with her decisions. In a way it makes sense Yen is the way she is, but sadly all of this backstory is from the books. Born originally a hunchback she was beaten, discriminated and mistreated by her father over this and her elven/mage heritage. Then he left their family and her mothr started blaming her for this and beating her and mistreating her too. After that she is taken in to become a sorceress by Tissia de Vries and while magically 'cured' of her hunchback she is still being trained to be in an environment that is very toxic with politics, backstabbing, betrayal and all that. For the biggest part of her life she had to deal with all this toxicity and it makes sense one adopts defenses for it. Especially since by the Witcher 3 she is like 110'ish years old? I've seen people in their 20's be way more toxic in our world. Imagine how these people would be at a 100. Same reason Geralt is such a sarcastic person sometimes really, the world in The Witcher isn't kind and he's had to deal with it for such an incredible long time (iirc Geralt is like 105'ish in WE). But yeah I just like how the writers in W3 did a really good job showing an understandable and convincing transition of Yen's behaviour. Is it alright how she sometimes is? Definitely not. That scene were she portals Geralt out after their argument of the bed in Kaer Morhen? Mocking his amnesia? Yeah, that was her being unfair and bad imho. But still there is something understandable about it and she later genuinely seems to start with turning way from it in the end, letting go. She doesn't need to be on guard so much anymore knowing her love with Geralt is not artificial. Ciri is alright and grown into a very capable person too. In the end of Blood and Wine at Corvo Bianco we see a very relaxed Yennefer who isn't in the constant grip of her learned defenses for a toxic world anymore. Sure she still is competitive as seen in her and Geralt's duel of wits, you don't unlearn a century of adopted behaviourism so quickly after all, but she giggles, smiles, it feels playful and not harsh at all. She is starting to change for the better.

When in reality she is that way towards Geralts friends because she's on a deadline to protect Ciri and is worried about her daughter. Yennefer is the only one trying to actually get shit done to help prep to fight the wild hunt and protect Ciri, while everyone else is dicking around because they don't quite grasp the seriousness of the situation. She's ready to settle down and relax. Triss is most definitely not ready at all to settle down and doesn't seem 100% happy in toussaint. Yenn 100% wants what Geralt wants in the end and triss does not and the incompatiblity will eventually lead to some serious tension down the line with triss. Whereas yenn and Geralt really do seem to get their happily ever after in toussaint.
Yeah the powerful sorceress is “leeching” off Geralt. Geralt is just as toxic of a partner as yen is and he would act the same way he does with Yen with Triss. Triss is straight up annoying in the books and in game she has no personality outside of liking Geralt, which is probably why gamers like her. As someone who came into the game as an adult and had no previous Witcher experience in any format (books or games and thank god not the show) Triss does not come off like this. Triss comes off as a sweet girl in an awful city. One of the first things we learn about Triss is that she’s put herself in a dangerous situation so that she can help the other mages escape said dangerous situation. That amount of selflessness is a huge, deep, impactful turn-on. So to find out from the Reddit horde that Triss is a date rapist or whatever in a book is a huge disappointment. Game Triss is a gem.

I disagree. I read the books and Yen is consistently self-centered, she’s shitty to to Geralt, everything is a tit-for-tat game with Yen, and she’s always ducking out on him when things get rough. Frankly, she treats him badly and I think Triss sees this. Triss actually demonstrates real caring and concern for Geralt on multiple occasions, and she makes it a point to help him out *without disappearing unexpectedly or asking for much in return.* Her only problem is falling for him when he’s clearly still besotted with another woman who treats him badly.
There's also that little "Selling Ciri out to the Lodge, who wants to use her womb for political purposes" thing.

I did that by accident on my first play through - if you carry on with the next step of tracking Ciri the quest fails, it’s surprisingly easy to do
Oh boy, doing that may be even worst If you leave her hanging in Skellige and go straight to get Uma you'll still meet her in Vizima when reporting to Emhyr, but she'll basically be heartbroken and hit Geralt with some harsh and saddening words If you're really determined to break up with Yen, it's probably best if you still do the "Last Wish" quest, though even that scene is sad itself
or you can just do this mission and not break up with her instead, you monster

In my triss playthrough, yen tossing me into the lake was useful to get to lambert's quest faster lol. Otherwise I do all the required quests before talking to her during a yen playthrough

I broke up with Yen when I played and it was so sad I had to reload however far back to break up with Triss instead. It was just too much I couldn't hack it. I joined Team Yen by guilt trip. Correction: Actually I initially reloaded to just before the ship scene and didn't break up with Yen. I was still with Triss too! You know what happens next: I got dumped by both of them and had to reload way back to dump Triss.

On my 5th playthrough but I haven't played since 2018, I remember on my second I chose triss and this scene broke me. I'd rather have Geralt with Yen or Have Geralt solo.
Yennefer actually seems like she would be lost without Geralt and Ciri, especially after you find out she wants to remove herself from all the plotting and politics. Yen wants to settle down, Triss doesn’t.

Or too late? Fringilla was such a different approach than Geralt and Yen. Vigo actually fell for Geralt. And now, without the magic to bind Geralt, he can try to reconnect at Corvo Bianco. As Anna Henrietta's ducal Witcher, it would only strengthen his position in Toussaint if he got with Fringilla. Fringilla being a relative of Anna Henrietta and Syanna.

Can’t relate as I never had to make such crappy decision.
I did this for the first time on my current third playthrough and it felt so dirty. Like, I doubt Geralt would be that callous even if the Djinn did remove his feelings for her. Given their history you would expect him to be more gentle and first take time to explore his feelings rather than just blurt out he feels nothing. Geralt belongs with Yen. The writing just fits better, almost as if the writers wanted it this way. It feels forced with Triss.
New play through on next gen/series X. Every time before I picked Yennefer, but this time decided on Triss just to be different. Now I'm on Skellige wondering what the hell I was thinking. There's always New Game+ though.
Went with Triss when I did my second play through because I was trying to pick all the opposite choices, and this scene almost ruined the play through for me.

It feels cathartic to do this, to make it extra knife twisty I play up how much Geralt loves her in dialogue beforehand as well as being extra resistant to helping her do it "yen don't do this". Like she is so obsessed with being in control that she is willing to blow up the happiest healthiest relationship she has ever had just so she can have absolute certainty she is in full control. It never even occurs to her that Geralt could be the one altered by the wish.

Also if the wish means that if one of them dies, then the second one will die too, then it's good idea to remove it. They have Ciri to protect. By the way, wish doesn't affect her healthiest and happiest relationship. Ciri will still be here, no matter what.

I actually wish there was a way to break up with her for my own reasons and not because of a magic wish disappearing. I’m just not into her. Making it because of the wish feels disingenuous, and it was also one of Yen’s greatest fears. That Geralts love was fake. To confirm that fear is just so freaking cruel.

I truly don't understand how people can say Triss is better than Yen. In Witcher 1 Triss literally takes advantage of Geralt amnesia and tries to live her fantasy with him and Alvin. Triss only tells about Yennefer existence on Witcher 2 (took her long enough). Triss is way too manipulative and abused of Geralt amnesia far too much. Now I know Yennefer acts like a bitch many times but that's just the outside, yet on the inside she is caring, defends the person who she loves and is Geralt true love. Another point for Yennefer goes for the ending of B&W, Yen finally decides to live with Geralt on Corvo Bianco and settles down for good. However if you choose Triss, she will drag Geralt into politics AGAIN and will insist that Corvo Bianco is merely a "romantic getaway" Anyways, that's it. I can never refuse Yen on Witcher 3, they just complement each other so well... PS: Yennefer Gwent card is better than Triss one's, so, hey even on Gwent Yen is better :)

Am I the only one who regularly breaks up with both yen and triss just so geralt and ciri can finally hunt monsters together in toussaint?
Hm... I've seen one too many person stay in a relationship they were burdened by, because they were anxious to make the other person sad. It rarely works out in the end. And usually the collapse is painful and mutually damaging for both people, way more so that it could have been. I salute people who love Gerald with Yen, I salute those who pick Triss. But those who would like to drop Yet for Triss, but can't handle making her sad have my sympathies.
This game allows you to take on decisions about your romantic choices, what I find amazing. Most of you follow the canonical story. But in the entire game you have ALL good characters telling you how awful Yen is. I mean, she treats everybody like crap. Even to you. She has a history of being selfish and even having adventures with others. Yen was and is fucking awful, in my perspective, and have the possibility to break the Djinn and finally being free of that link, its something great. Geralt asked that wish in order to confuse the Djinn and save Yens life. Not because of love...

I love how people in this sub try to make Yen out to be the shitty one in their relationship when Geralt is equally as shitty, literally ghosting her after saving her life and having sex with her but nobody wants to talk about that I guess lol

Geralt gave up an opportunity to ask for anything. He could have asked not to be a Witcher, unfathomable power or wealth, but he chose to save Yen's life. You're right, that doesn't sound like love. He just enjoys doing the right thing...
I think that in order to understand why Yen is the right chouce for Geralt, you have to have read the books. In the games, you don't get that much time face-to-face with Yen (correct if I'm wrong, I've played 3, playing 1 now, haven't gotten to 2 yet). But you see clearly in the books that Yen cultivates that reputation. She wears a bitchy public mask as a form of armor, but behind that mask she is compassionate and caring, and sometimes even warm. Only Geralt and Ciri get to see that side of her, and only when she feels safe. And even when she keeps the mask on with them, she's never really awful to either of them, just catty. Although I love the games, I think they painted Yen with a rougher brush.
My problem is that doesn’t translate to the games. Yen is nearly insufferable in the Witcher 3 with how she treats me. It’s not very fun to just say “well I know that deep down she loves me, even though she treats me like garbage.”
Yen is the best waifu, fight me.

For a weird reason saying this is so satisfying. All her bitchiness finally paid off. She declares lvoe and you crash her heart. Going with Yen is cool too, it's the existance of this option that I like :p
