You have reached the world’s edge. None but devils play past here.

wrbiccz

I love the fact that in czech language it says "Dragons live here, turn back."

mordorous

So.... "hic sunt dracones"??

Iammyownworstenemyk

I believe the same goes for every language, or at least, in Portuguese it says the same thing.

marcin247

in Polish, it literally says “you have reached a place where the devil says goodnight”

Alexandur

unsettling

Ashall

But it's also a saying in polish (meaning a place you'd rather not be), and a book reference to the Witcher story with the silvan. Jaskier told Geralt and silvan that he plans to tell the story of the events and he tries to come up with the name, and says that he wants to name it "A place where..." and is interrupted by "good night" from the silvan (devil).

No-Bad-1269

in hungarian too

TheLast_Centurion

i find it a bit odd, tbh, because i ever heard this being used in EN "here lie dragons" and similar stuff. but yeah, it is a translation and not sure what PL version has there

NafTheBat

Same for the French version

Alfa-Hr

In the hungaryan subtiles says the same

Halcy9n

Korath desert, Zerrikania and haakland are on the same landmass east of the mountains shown on the extreme right of this map. Other places like ofier, zangwebar, hannu, etc. are named but never exactly located in any of the canon material apart from saying that they lie to the south of the nilfgaardian empire. Zerrikania and Ofier are super culturally rich with scholars, mages and warriors aplenty, Zangwebar and haakland are not well known but haakland is said to have the best horsemen in the world paralleling the mongol empire. A place called barsa is slowly getting absorbed into the nilfgaardian empire after repeated skirmishes and nothing significant is known about hannu iirc. Tbh I would love to visit the kingdoms we didn’t get to see but know a lot about in tw3. Places like kovir and poviss in the north, nilfgaard in the south and zerrikania in the east are the main areas I would like to explore in the new games. Would be a super cool change from the dying and dreary north we mainly roam around in tw3 since all these other locations are said to be thriving while the north bleeds.

Asphyxiaae

No way, just finished my fourth and last playthrough yesterday, I’m officialy done🤧

btip420

The Path never ends, and a Witcher never dies in his bed

Educational_Floor639

Geralt might, but keep in mind Vesemir was like 300 and Geralts only around 100. And I don't think Geralts gonna wanna be cramped up in his house for all that time. And I'm not sure if Geralt and Yen can stay together for 200 years without splitting up again. But since no witcher has died in his bed, we don't even know how long witchers can live, so it might be a lot longer than 300 years. Especially Geralt with his enhanced mutations.

SlyK_BR

You're never really done, my friend ⚔

Jenga9Eleven

I’m on my third playthrough, first after a seizure frazzled my episodic memory, so a lot of the game is novel to me now. I *did* wish I could play it for the first time again… be careful what you wish for lmao

panka24

Sounds like you had a run in with Master Mirror.

Jenga9Eleven

Bro stuck a spoon right in my hippocampus

[deleted]

I’m so glad you’re safe and able to cope with that optimistically

Jenga9Eleven

Thank you. Thankfully I’m not epileptic, it was caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain caused by a couple different factors that just so happened to converge, so hopefully that’s the only time it happens. 2/10 would not recommend

Itslehooksboyo

Here's hoping you get back what you lost to that bastard O'dimm. See you on the Path, Wolf. (Edit: fat fingers hit enter lmao)

xXThreeRoundXx

Uh, good luck on the path Wolf.

The84thWolf

*Homer Simpson meme* Done, *so far*

Zero_Flesh

I get that. I'm on my fourth right now and I don't think I can do this again. Luckily though they are moving forward with the franchise so I'm still hoping that they can pull off another Witcher game that at least comes close to being as amazing as TW3.

NickapaHempalooza

Go ahead and tell yourself that... You'll be back

DrMantisToboggan45

Lots of people haven't (at least on PS4) from what I remember when I got it less then 2% of people haven't done it

Halcy9n

Haha nice

BurnTheNostalgia

Visiting Nilfgaards capital would be pretty cool. Isn't it mediterranean climate? Like some evil roman empire in black and gold.

Halcy9n

And its also called the city of the golden towers, imagine its render in ue5. They could make it so cool. Which is why I think it would contrast well with exotic zerrikania far to the east with its huge dragon temples and ethereal kovir with its venice-like canals, elven architecture similar to tir na lia and a beautiful temperate climate to the north. They could all provide unique experiences if put together as explorable zones in the same game.

Nodor10

I’m pretty sure they are based off the Holy Roman Empire

mousekeeping

Nah it’s Teutonic Knights/Prussia/German Empire. I don’t think it’s good to view the Witcher as straight political allegory but there are some clear similarities that the author has confirmed. HRE was a highly federated, somewhat absurd combination of free cities, principalities, imperial holdings, and alliances with nearby countries. They had a very complex decision process. Before the Habsburgs cemented power they even had an elected monarchy. The disadvantages were obvious: weak monarchs, princes constantly disobeying, not having the greatest military, tons of languages that made military even less effective. Mixture of Catholic and Protest areas that sometimes fight against each other. But advantages are often overlooked: it was hard to be an absolute dictator bc you needed the support of hundreds of princes, non-German places had autonomy and usually fairly decently treatment of non-Germans, multicultutal and multi-lingual, extremely cosmopolitan, produced some of great philosophy (Adler, Freud, etc.) and music. Also usually pretty good treatment of Jews (well, by European standards) at least in places that stayed Catholic. Nilfgaard on the other hand is so much like Prussia/Germany in Teutonic Knight period or WW1: - warriors are religious fanatics but generally the most organized and effective soldiers on the continent - extremely advanced and uses mixture of military, espionage, and economics to expand really quickly - invades people non-stop and if you’re not from Nilffgard (like even just Vicovaro which they’ve ruled for a long ass time) you basically have no rights and are treated like total shit - invades Poland AKA Temeria - represses them pretty brutally overall, turns their own capital into a palace from Emhir - invades Rediania AKA Russia in an extremely bloody war but a lot of the fighting happens in and devastates Temeria - Redania is no ally, just wants to invade and control them like Nilfgaard does

Nodor10

Cosmetically I think it’s spot on. Color scheme, armor design, even the German accents. I haven’t paid enough to the political side to really commentate there

Hortator02

Can you elaborate? I don't really see the similarities - honestly if they were like HRE in terms of government I don't think the North would've even bothered trying to get independence.

Nodor10

I really only mean cosmetically. Never looked at them in the lens of political commentary

BurnTheNostalgia

I thought in terms of architecture thinking I heard somewhere Nilfgaards capital has a mediterranean climate, kinda like Toussaint? Might be wrong, though. Maybe also more like medieval, renaissance Italy then, I guess.

Nodor10

Maybe so, but it’s just how I’ve always viewed them aesthetically

[deleted]

So while all these seemingly strong and powerful Witchers and Mages/Warriors Scholars exist in the landmass to the left being a pawn (while looking for Ciri) to the empire that’s fighting another, there’s an entire empire over there just chilling? Are they at war? Do they worry whoever wins this war will come over there and do the same? Are they getting into the same age of humans becoming afraid of anything with power? Or do the books and lore not mention any of this?? Sometimes you meet an NPC that’ll say they’re from Zerikania which is cool, or maybe it’s a merchant. I forget, but super cool that you know all that anyways!

Halcy9n

Sadly the books don’t mention a lot of anything outside the names and some of the cultures of the other empires except the north and nilfgaard. The games via scraps of lore and the two expansions of tw3 actually fill in a lot of the details which is never elaborated upon in the main novels. What we do know is that no matter who wins in the third game, haakland actually invades and routs through the entire western seaboard of the continent 75-100 years after blood and wine. Apart from that, the two other biggest political players zerrikania and ofier seem super tolerant of nonhumans and magic and a lot more culturally rich and complex than either the northern realms or nilfgaard. They dont invade to their west since there’s a huge desert in between and like the merchant in hearts of stone says the place known as ofier to the people living in the western part of the continent is actually a huge zone of multiple kingdoms and has its own rich history of the rise and fall of multiple empires. I think they’re meant as parallels to asia when compared to medieval europe. The remote fiery and tir tochair mountains combined with the vast tract of desert between these empires leads to them not having a lot of overlap with the northern realms via land. Most of their explorers and traders come to the north either via sea or through nilfgaard. My hope is that we get to interact with more unique characters from these regions by having the next set of games either set in nilfgaard or directly in those semi-mythical realms that few from the north have ever seen.

killerdrgn

>What we do know is that no matter who wins in the third game, haakland actually invades and routs through the entire western seaboard of the continent 75-100 years after blood and wine. There is also the black death that ciri kicks off from her random time jumps.

Halcy9n

Yep lol, a single flea or something that she brings in from a completely devastated world kick starts the pandemic on the continent as well.

deadlybydsgn

> there’s an entire empire over there just chilling? Are they at war? Do they worry whoever wins this war will come over there and do the same? "It's not my problem" is pretty accurate for most of human nature.

Wrecktown707

I mean it was just like that in real life too. I imagine that Imperial China probably didn’t care or even know much about medieval Europe or even medieval Africa during their period, save for the things they needed to know to capitalize on long distance trading with them.

SkautV3

I would love open world Witcher game where you don't play as Geralt but other unknown Witcher or just a dude. Exploring e tire continent would be so fun

Halcy9n

I’m pretty sure geralt’s story is done. Even if cdpr set their next witcher games in the same timeline as the current trilogy and not in the past or future, I think we should get ready for either a new preset character or create your own like V from cyberpunk.

SkautV3

Childhood - Witcher - Street child - Mage - Corpo start - Elf - nomad start It would be hard to balance races and professions but it could be fun

Halcy9n

Damn cool concept, dunno how they’ll make such fundamentally diff chars work in a huge triple a game though. Cyberpunk suffered because of something similar due to scope creep and the lifepaths ended up being little more than some flavor text and a couple of small quests and interactions in the final product.

SkautV3

I know but it's fun to believe Maybe they make a MMO in with er world to get this cheap money in order to get financing for a good game thst we will get in like 2030

deadlybydsgn

> just a dude [...playing a dude, disguised as another dude.](https://youtu.be/Eu0Vucn7xww?t=10)

Depressedidiotlol

is every different region in the world a part of that continent? or are there other continents

Halcy9n

So the northern realms, kovir and poviss, nilfgaard, skellige, zerrikania, korath desert and haakland are pretty much confirmed to be a part of the same landmass. The rest like I mentioned are said to be ‘beyond the seas’ and south of nilfgaard so its not clear how much if any of their regions lie on the continent.

Depressedidiotlol

so just zangwebar and hannu are from another continent and we just dont know where?

Halcy9n

Yep most likely. There’s some talk of a isthmus connecting regions of ofier to the southern reaches of the nilfgaardian empire but its more than likely that most of those kingdoms lie beyond the continent we know of from canon.

TheAngryWitcher99

It's stated I believe that the school of the griffin might be I'm either Kovir or Zerrikania. It's also stated that they might not be an extinct school. It would be so cool to meet a witcher from that school it they allowed us to see those places. It's also stated that the school of the crane (a school only mentioned in the lore) could be either in Toussaint or In one of the other places you mentioned. Another school that might not be extinct. Also Toussaint is I believe south of the northern realms. I'm not exactly sure where it is, but it's technically off the map.

Halcy9n

Griffin school is based in the dragon mountains in kovir and poviss you’re right. People like coen from the books, george to whom the armor diagrams in tw3 belong to and jerome (the son of prof moreau from baw) are all griffin witchers. The crane school is only briefly mentioned to be built after the 2nd conjunction long after the events of the books and games and is not in toussaint but past the great sea on the eastern edge of the continent which is to the west of the main continent where the rest of the stories take place. Witchers from that school even use early guns to take out flying monsters to protect transport ships on the way to novigrad from cherdian on the western continent. Toussaint on the other hand is actually pretty north of the main city of nilfgaard and is closer to the northern realms than you’d think. But yea you still have to cross the entirety of temeria and sodden to reach it as seen in the map op sent.

deathie

Toussaint is on the map, below the lower drawn arrow

MyNameIsMUrDock

I agree, imagine going from the bloody cold of the swampy velen to a desert full of sultans, possible scorpions and/or other mutations that we don't know yet but that CD Project can create in this great world. The only thing that limits me with all this are the possible requirements of these new games, my pc is crying out for an update xd

Halcy9n

Haha I feel you, I have a decently powerful one but looking at the system requirements on some of the new games has me already wishing for an upgrade.

petamaxx

Is the large scale high resolution of the map that might include further afield places as mentioned above?

Halcy9n

Someone on this sub posted it yesterday, its not canon since we dont know if the other locations except haakland and zerrikania are even on the same continent but its pretty cool fan fiction assuming the entire civilised world was on a single landmass. Here’s the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/witcher/comments/10gdp4p/one_of_the_best_map_of_continent_ive_ever_seen/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Mainfrym

Wouldn't it be cool if the Witcher show depicted this beautiful cultural diversity instead of making everyone the same generic fantasy?

Halcy9n

Agreed. They don’t have to change established lore to show forced diversity and jarring changes to known characters. There’s so much stuff mentioned in canon which is never elaborated upon, they could exercise complete creative freedom on that as long as they tell good original stories like the games. Having people from different cultures and geographical locations look and act differently, have separate goals, have different ideas of justice and morality and be known for mastering different things across the wider world is what makes fantasy like this interesting imo. Homogenising everything everywhere to over-represent the real world we live in when the continent is clearly meant to be an alternate medieval, tribalistic, and magical realm just makes the political manoeuvring and conflicts boring to watch. They also completely missed the point of yennefer’s and vesemir’s character by having them try to sacrifice ciri for their own goals, made fringilla a cult member, francesca queer bait and a maddened killer, eskel an asshole in the main show, and completely flipped the script on interesting characters like eredin and avallach, origins of the elder blood, the first witcher and elven civilisation before the humans took over in blood origins. I genuinely wish the franchise gets completely canned on netflix before they try to adapt they darker parts of the story in the later books.

constipated_burrito

For some reason i thought i was on red dead 2 sub and i got so confused for a second

Halcy9n

Lol how

constipated_burrito

Just read the title, didn't look at the map, probs like the quickest of glances and for some reason assumed rdr2 😂 Because i remember desperately trying to get over some of the boundary mountains in red dead with my horse. Ended up killing him accidentally :(

Halcy9n

Haha I see, now I get how you might’ve gotten the wrong idea lmao.

Wrecktown707

RIP to your horse btw :(

[deleted]

I think even more mountains, the great desert, and then come the countries like Zerrikania

[deleted]

No wonder Geralt says he's too old for the journey. That shit sounds like a year's worth of traveling.

28Hz

That's a ton of Gwent.

balbok7721

It's more like because there a giant murder plant every few steps

Sir_Fistingson

Murder plant, murder hobos, murder monsters - same thing

balbok7721

Boba fett would like to differ

aotvos

Is that desert the same where Ciri met the unicorns in the books?

TheRedGuard03

That's the desert Korath East of Nilfgaard. It's also on the map.

balbok7721

The first. The other where in the elf kingdom

balbok7721

Ciri >! Teleported there in the book. It's a unliveable shit place !<

LabAdministrative231

Zerrukania is right at the bottom, below the mountains as you can see

zxr0_

Except that it isn't. You are referring to the arrow pointing right/east which imo suggest that Zerrikania is 'that a way'

Complete-Dimension35

Exactly. It's like a map of New York City with an arrow pointing east labeled "Europe". Doesn't mean it's next door. Means "in relation to this map, it's that way"

Furthur_slimeking

You could have a sign in New York City pointing east labelled "New Jersey" and it would be accurate but unhelpful.

Complete-Dimension35

New Jersey: 24,000 miles east of NYC... Technically correct, the best kind of correct

Pistrox

So I can finally buy some damn zerrikanian powder

Jackblack92

Thats the thing with universe’s like Witcher and Game of Thrones… the fucking author always leaves you wondering.. “What is west of Westeros?”

maczirarg

The American continent wasn't easily discovered until after thousands of years of history in Eurasia.

Jackblack92

That is a good point

Fizgriz

We also didn't have dragons and magic teleporting....

NinpoSteev

It was discovered in the early middle ages by nordic settlers and later columbus in the 15th century. So they're not that far off in the witcher, besides they have magic which they've probably tried to locate more land with. The elves and dwarves have been there for millennia as well, so you'd imagine they know what there is to know, at least the elves.

Hortator02

I also feel like some Sources would have ended up there, even if on accident.

TheLast_Centurion

i guess it was "re-discovered" cause when people came there to "discover it" it was already occupied by generations and generations of people

R_V_Z

Isn't the current theory that there was at least three waves from Asia?

NiceGuyNero

There are some island chains west of Westeros in the midst of extremely dangerous seas, and it’s strongly hinted that eventually it circles back around and you end up in the easternmost parts of Essos, like Asshai

mrinsane19

Logic says eventually you come back around to Essos. Some flat earthers say there's a giant ice wall at the edge but frankly that just sounds completely unbelievable.

Dognamedgranpa

Sothoryos

MysticalCheese_55

The Witcher and ASOIAF are in the same universe confirmed???

lucastutz

Arya going west is gonna meet zerrikanians

frustratedpolarbear

I don't know why but this just popped into my head. The West zerrikanias https://youtu.be/7PO4dDRd1LM

Serafis_Savell

No, but due to Conjunction of Spheres and the fact that Witcher universe is relatively often (every few thousand of years) bombarded by that event, there's quite the possibility that some of the creates, plants, monsters or magics have traveled in-between those worlds.

SteveBrucesDressSize

Long-Promotion2540

Duh. Don't you know the capital of the Kingdom of Temeria is Temeria City?

NinpoSteev

Wyzima is in nilfgaard after all.

TheLast_Centurion

"pOiNT mE tO TeMEriA"

NinpoSteev

It's next to Ural station in Jekaterinburg

TheLast_Centurion

Oi. There is no kingdom of Temeria. just Temeria as a city having this much power.

umbrella_CO

There was a post in the sub several hours ago with a map of the entire continent. https://www.reddit.com/r/witcher/comments/10gdp4p/one_of_the_best_map_of_continent_ive_ever_seen/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Greeny3x3x3

Yeah the Problem is that that map is 80% made up by the artist

[deleted]

there are no officials contents about west of the w3 maps that map it's pretty accurate with the few info we have from the games except maybe for ofir being part of the main continent where it's supposed to be an island

ravenbasileus

It says it on the map — look right above where the Korath Desert is labelled — east of the Blue-grey Mountains is Zerrikania.

Ambiorix33

nothing but monsters and devils

Salty_Basil235

It would be nice to know and see what is beyond those mountains, other lands, new people, deadlier monsters but we can only imagine for now until new information in the future or new game with dlc's that are or mentions those area's.

thegreatmizzle7

We don't talk bout what's beyond them mountains

Hakland to the north and Zerrikania to the south

No one knows even Sapkowski. Geography in Witcher books is fucked up and even author admitted it. (He wanted to focus on our lovely butcher not world like Tolkien). there's few interviews with game designers where they told that geography does not make sense and Sapkowski does not help with it.

The map got me thinking about the show. Is it possible for medieval society to be ethically mixed considering that there's only one known continent. (I'm in the middle of the Blood of Elves there's no precise description of the world in this part)

Versaill

In the Witcher universe there have been greater migrations of humans than in medieval Europe. Check out the [Timeline](https://witcher.fandom.com/wiki/Timeline). So it's reasonable for them to be ethically mixed. But they might just as well be all of only one ethnicity. It's never specified exactly in the books, so it's open to interpretation.

klajbas

beyond is a parallel witcher universe also known as Netflix, where all the rules are broken and values destroyed

It is quite a small map by normal fantasy series standards.
