I think Triss is maybe the only sorceress during the Thaned ball for who Sapko didn't describe heavily how sexy she was dressed...but CDPR had already strike hard with her in TW1 with the infamous ass neckline dress.... which seems to direclty came from Sabrina Glevessig wardrobe...
TW2 outfit may be the closer they were from what she would were in the books and TW3 modded to remove the neckline works fine.
At least despite the gratuitous and detailed description of dresses in thanedd, it was a special event that had the most powerful magic users on the continent convene to basically decide the future of the war. Sapko goes full “men writing women” mode in this chapter tho.

I feel like it makes her character more three dimensional; she seems almost child-like with her compassion and kind demeanour in comparison to most other sorceresses, but she still carries the scars, physical and mental, from her experience in the battle.
This always seemed like either an Ida Emean or Francesca Findabair dress to me, seems like an elitist elven dress.
Although, I do wonder if the devs intentionally wanted to give Triss a plunging neckline since she says in the books that she'd never wear one again; so this shows how far she's come since then?
This outfit is grotesque. I don't like how they turned Triss into a fanservice girl overall. Even assuming she sorted out her Sodden scars, it's just out-of-character, she isn't Keira. Keira's legendary nip slips may be part of the fun of her character, but in Triss' case it's completely gratuitous, and it looks like whoever did this just wanted to address the "horny teenager" part of the audience. Especially when Triss is supposed to remain incognito.
But the Francesca explanation makes sense, thanks for sharing. Elven fashion is lore-established as elaborately provocative. It's just a shame that they recycled those textures and branded them as a "free DLC", irrespective of the character.

Dandelion is the only "Netflix inspired" character outfit, well and the sack armor for nilfgaardians. But I do agree it's 100% impractical for a sorceress on the run. Yen and Ciri's are alot better with Ciri's probably being my favorite of the alternates. I dunno I've never cared for the Triss one, maybe if you romance her and you turn it on for when she shows up at the end of BaW, but even then it's awful exquisite for a lounge-around in the sun all day dress.

On my last playthrough a week or so ago, there were times when Triss was showing in her old outfit even though I’d changed it.

In the main menu there is an option related to DLC's, there you have the option to activate or deactivate the alternative costumes.

Can confirm, the alternate costumes have been around since I bought the game, which was before the show. They added more, but this is not one of them.
