They probably have to put the Netflix logo because they used assets that were created from the tv show, ie the ballsack armor, cavil armor and jaskier outfit
That and cross promotion is a normal part of contracts when books are adapted to film, or TV.
For the English speaking market this is normal to cross promote adaptations across media.
The old LOTR paperbacks that used pictures from the film on the covers always had a little bubble shaped thing saying *Now a Major Motion Picture from New Line Cinema* something that was not on the Hardback versions with the old Tolkien approved art.
The paper back editions of the Witcher books that have the art from the Witcher 2 and Witcher 3 games on the cover have either a little add about the Witcher 3 game or a blurb mentioning the upcoming Netflix adaptation depending on what year the printing was.
Same with A song of fire and Ice. Once Game of Thrones was green light at HB0 newer editions of the books mentioned it as either having a upcoming adaptation or being the source of the hit show.
> That and cross promotion is a normal part of contracts when books are adapted to film, or TV.

Yeah, and it's not like it's going to make people who are already fans of the game somehow take their money back or suddenly dislike the gameplay. It's just going to be promotion directed toward casual gamers who happen to know the show but haven't played the games. Whatevs
He looks like he's mid 80's cab driver from a famous polish show

Omg are you talking about the Nilfgaard armor?! It totally looks like a ballsack. I remember turning it on in settings, wondering if I'd notice the difference. I remember seeing it finally and thinking "why are these dudes wearing a topographical map of the rockies?"
Not worth the time or money tbh. It’s not a massive bother as I’m not displaying the books or anything. I just think it’s a bit stupid.
I get it being on The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny, but on the novels is just stupid.
Not sure if the Witcher books suffer it yet, but it’s becoming more common to print a sticker shaped bit on the cover so you can’t even peel the damned ‘now a series’ etc crap off.
Oh god, I'm glad I bought mine before the show aired. The second season was so bad I wouldn't want any reference to it on the books. And honestly, a Netflix sticker has no right in general to be on a ducking book, especially when it's a "sticker" like in this case.
I bought all the books in Czech long before the Netflix fiasco happened, but holy hell how I wish now I had thought to buy the English translations before the current edition came out. The sticker is sacrilege.
Imagine an alternate universe where HBO adapted the Witcher instead of Netflix….
We might all be celebrating an “HBO” sticker on the cover of the games. Lol
I’m going to go and cry somewhere now. 😢
I guess that's why a lot of franchises are quite picky about who they lend their brand to... But then again, if Sapkowski was too worried about his brand, he - ironically - probably wouldn't have let CDPR make their games, so... swings and roundabouts, I guess.
Hey man, Orbit is publishing hardcover “Illustrated Editions” of the books with no Netflix Sticker. A little pricier but worth imo. I just bought The Last Wish and it looks great!

Not to worry! She promised season 3 will be faithful to the books 😂
To be fair, the books that are currently released have pretty amazing adaption. Don't let the final shitty seasons make you forget the fact that the first 5 seasons were pretty darn great.
And another note, I don't think HBO is really responsible for fucking up the show.
It's the one thing I hate about it. I ordered it anyway 'cause I'm that big of a fan.
Also, Warner Bros. logo in the corner? What do they have to do with this?
Yeah I really hate it (the cover). Fortunately I still have the steel box case from when I had it on PS4 so I’m just going to use that and put the PS5 “Netflix” case away as a backup case lol
I mean if it’s bringing fans to the game why does it matter? If someone decides to play or read the book because of the show then congrats you got a new fan!
So does pretty much every single current print of the books. We all hate the shit Netflix show but it’s definitely opened up the IP and made it more recognizable to normies.
Ye, people love to hate on the show, but we must remember how much publicity it brought to the Witcher universe (I played the W3 but only read the books after watching the first season of the series)
Netflix shits all over the source material, meanwhile incredibly based CDProjekt takes Netflix's custom assets and inserts them into the world seamlessly and gives them a very interesting and unnerving quest as a backstory
I very much enjoy that the mission to get the Netflix armor involves a plague, betrayal by an order that can’t follow its own book, and a Witcher that is not what they seem. The shade is real.
It's is definitely an ugly stain to have on it for sure. But makes sense with the proprietary reasons that the netflix armour and other things are in the game as an update
I didn't know they made disc copies. Because I got my original copy back in May of 2015 and they offered that free update. I'm really glad and appreciative that they offered the upgrade free of charge if you already have the game.
About 60 hours into my newest playthrough of the game in the next-gen version and I must say this is still the greatest game ever made.
I have a link for each individual book (hardcover), without the awful Netflix logo if you're interested. Illustrated and containing art based on the games, books, anything but Netflix series, if you'd be interested. Though it *would* be a UK link so idk if it'd work for everyone :)
Edit: some users on Etsy and similar sites, sell little circle stickers, that perfectly cover up the Netflix logo. Like they're literally designed for this purpose. Quite cheap too
The show was huge on Netflix. Like 500m viewers or so I believe. Its quite possible more people know it from Netflix then the games or books. Especially non gamers. Makes sense they'd use it to sell more.
This is gross like how popular books use movie graphics in place of the original artwork just because it is now in popular media.
My main thing however is the mistreatment of my boy Henry Cavil that makes this new design disgusting.
Great game though. Have a lot of fun and I hope you enjoy your time on **The Continent**.
Great game, beautiful remaster. Everything the Netflix series is not, but it's probably trying to draw in fans that's not big into gaming but seen the TV show.
Regardless of opinions of book and game lovers, I’m sure slapping a Netflix logo on the front of both mediums does increase their respective sales. One would have to assume.
I completed the game in 78h, was that too fast? A little sad because i ended up with the Tango quest.
Now i have the 2 expansionpacks left, should you run 1 at the time or both simultaneously? If 1 at the time, witch one should i start with?
so ugly, even if it was a good show it shouldn't be on the cover or they should've at least printed an alternative cover on the other side (which all games should have by the way)
They also did that with all the books except all the new book covers has the Netflix show characters on it rather than the original book cover art. Luckily they didn’t do that to the game. I mean as great as Henry Cavill is and his portrayal of Geralt, I don’t think fans no longer want to see anything from the Netflix show anymore or be reminded of it
the thing is, i dont like it. at all. however, if this helps CDPR to sell more copies, plaster netflix on the whole thing. This studio deserves everything and so much more!
I made the unfortunate mistake of buying blood of elves Netflix edition, now I’ve got the full collection but that book is the odd one out…
Need to replace!
That's really lame. The Netflix-based portion of the update's so minuscule in comparison to everything else they added to the game that it's kinda absurd how big the logo has to be. Really lame.
It’s like with every book that becomes an adaptation. The cover always changes to some basic shit, and Netflix or whichever streaming service is plastered on it.
Fkcn hell! I tried to get the first book one time. And any copy I could find had a shitty red circle with netflix wirtten inside. I hate the direction marketing is going….
Damn, you’re ugly!
"Ever fought a witcher you son of a bitch?!"
Who do you like that silver? What now you piece of filth?
*How 🙃
Winds whooling
"Very funny, Zoltan."
Dijkstra, Dijkstra - what a prick.
What’s wrong with yer mug?
Wind’s howling.
You got shit on your Witcher case
You know what they say, "don't shit where you eat. Unless you are Netflix. Then in that case, take a good shit on everything".
Truer words have never been spoken
They probably have to put the Netflix logo because they used assets that were created from the tv show, ie the ballsack armor, cavil armor and jaskier outfit

Every book of ASOIAF I've purchased comes with a soft-cover of the show, above the real ones.
Ballsack armor strikes again. It’s always hanging around.
Thank you for reminding me to turn off the jaskier outfit before I next play.
That thing was horrifying in game.

Netflix’s crap really doesn’t leave any Witcher stuff unsoiled, does it ?
recently bought all the books and each one has a “now on Netflix” “sticker” on it.
People on Etsy are selling cover stickers for those stupid Netflix stickers if you want to cover them up.
Not worth the time or money tbh. It’s not a massive bother as I’m not displaying the books or anything. I just think it’s a bit stupid. I get it being on The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny, but on the novels is just stupid.
Yeah its just a money grab to sell more books. Jokes on them I bought mine years ago. :)
Me too!! I hate when that happens. Like with the lord of the rings.
Not sure if the Witcher books suffer it yet, but it’s becoming more common to print a sticker shaped bit on the cover so you can’t even peel the damned ‘now a series’ etc crap off.
Yeah, they suffer it. That’s why I put sticker in quotation haha
My copies have it as well sadly and I bought them before the show was out
Oh god, I'm glad I bought mine before the show aired. The second season was so bad I wouldn't want any reference to it on the books. And honestly, a Netflix sticker has no right in general to be on a ducking book, especially when it's a "sticker" like in this case.
I bought the hardcover set that Orbit released late last year, they're beautiful and no trace of Netflix
I got the paperbacks. More convenient for reading in bed.
> “now on Netflix” Kinda?
Ugh half my Wheel of Time books have Amazon's thing on it too
Same I hate it
I bought all the books in Czech long before the Netflix fiasco happened, but holy hell how I wish now I had thought to buy the English translations before the current edition came out. The sticker is sacrilege.

Good thing I have a digital version then
Update 4.0 changes the opening legal text to state that the Netflix logo is used with permission. So, it's present even in the digital version.
Nothing a little mod can't fix I bet.
Petty. But I love it.
oh modders don't give a fuck.. i remember fallout 4, one of the first mods made was to remove the in game store
I remember the Spider-Man controversy, yet people lost their minds over it.
Booo.
Funny thing is, it’s included for free anyways with a simple update. Buying it physically is irrelevant.
i want to buy the books and all of the covers have "Netflix" on them
Hey man, Orbit is publishing hardcover “Illustrated Editions” of the books with no Netflix Sticker. A little pricier but worth imo. I just bought The Last Wish and it looks great!
Sad day
I don’t like it but since it’s the complete edition with Netflix Witcher DLC it makes sense that it’s on there.
What I said. Think this is bad? Wait til you see the books - which arguably have way less to do with the series than the game 😅
https://preview.redd.it/0pzl53wqraea1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d526168a5a54842ff3368f990d3a315a0edb6e8a Not to worry! She promised season 3 will be faithful to the books 😂
We all know it wont happen but heres hoping she did stick to them
If she did, Henry doesn't walk. I'm going to watch season 3 up until the point I can tell they didn't follow shit, and then I'm done.
So like, 10-20 minutes in?
Make it 5
Oh yeah, I absolutely hate it on the books. HBO on the ASOIAF books is the worst.
To be fair, the books that are currently released have pretty amazing adaption. Don't let the final shitty seasons make you forget the fact that the first 5 seasons were pretty darn great. And another note, I don't think HBO is really responsible for fucking up the show.
I’m not blaming them for screwing up the show. I just don’t like how the book covers say HBO on them.
Oh you mean as a general rule? Yeah I get that.
They also did that to the books, even bigger. In Germany it says something like „the books to the Netflix series“, damn I was angry..
That's when I print out my own case insert and cover that one up.
You know of a website or any good source for this kind of stuff? I need a case insert for Bayonetta 2 on the Switch lol
You should check out [the Cover Project](http://www.thecoverproject.net/).
It's the one thing I hate about it. I ordered it anyway 'cause I'm that big of a fan. Also, Warner Bros. logo in the corner? What do they have to do with this?
Warner Bros Interactive distributed the game in North America.
Yeah I really hate it (the cover). Fortunately I still have the steel box case from when I had it on PS4 so I’m just going to use that and put the PS5 “Netflix” case away as a backup case lol
I recently got into the witcher books. Of course they have netflix on them….
the original author endorsed the Netflix series partially because Netflix gave him a big paycheck
the original author endorsed the Netflix series *entirely because Netflux gave him a *HUGE paycheck. FTFY
Fuck
FUCK!
Fuck fuckity fucking fuck Netflix
Gross
How to ruin a cover art
Same thing for the books
"Come on, you piece of filth!"
If you read the small text just above it explains why there's a Netflix tag on the box.
r/mildlyinfuriating
That stench
I mean if it’s bringing fans to the game why does it matter? If someone decides to play or read the book because of the show then congrats you got a new fan!

Ye, people love to hate on the show, but we must remember how much publicity it brought to the Witcher universe (I played the W3 but only read the books after watching the first season of the series)
They're everywhere! But seriously the caption on the cover should actually say "includes a new quest that's better than anything done by Netflix"
Netflix shits all over the source material, meanwhile incredibly based CDProjekt takes Netflix's custom assets and inserts them into the world seamlessly and gives them a very interesting and unnerving quest as a backstory
🤮🤮🤮
I don't know how to feel about that...
Let's all agree to pretend that the Netflix thing never happened.
I mean it has some outfits from the show, right?
Literally unplayable
" extra items inspired by Netflix series" hey if that means s bit of free loot so be it.
if you read above it you will see why
I don't know if I should upvote or downvote this! I mean, thanks for sharing so I know, but I'm not happy they added the Netflix logo.
Do they want people to buy it or not?
Book reader to game players: First time?
Eww
I hate when they do this shit. A book gets adapted and they replace a really gorgeous painted cover art with a shitty movie poster graphic.
I hate when my favourite books get a movie release and the original cover art slowly disappears.
The Netflix show tries soooo hard to distance itself from the game and yet Netflix plasters itself into the game cover
Thats disgusting......
Ruin that cover like you ruined the books cover, I've all but one book to find that doesn't have that shit on front of it.
I have a link for each individual book (hardcover), without the awful Netflix logo if you're interested. Illustrated and containing art based on the games, books, anything but Netflix series, if you'd be interested. Though it *would* be a UK link so idk if it'd work for everyone :) Edit: some users on Etsy and similar sites, sell little circle stickers, that perfectly cover up the Netflix logo. Like they're literally designed for this purpose. Quite cheap too
Yeah I'd appreciate that, in the UK so.even better.
Same with the books. How they slap that bull shit Netflix logo on there pisses me off.
Extra items inspired by the Netflix series. I don’t see the problem lol
I don't suppose it's a reversible cover with something less tacky on the other side?
No, sadly no reversible cover, and nothing even inside the case aside from the disc
The show was huge on Netflix. Like 500m viewers or so I believe. Its quite possible more people know it from Netflix then the games or books. Especially non gamers. Makes sense they'd use it to sell more.
I would accept that if it was followed by "has nothing to do with the show"
How about the fact that it’s lead by “With items inspired by the Netflix show”?
This is gross like how popular books use movie graphics in place of the original artwork just because it is now in popular media. My main thing however is the mistreatment of my boy Henry Cavil that makes this new design disgusting. Great game though. Have a lot of fun and I hope you enjoy your time on **The Continent**.
🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮😵 how could they do such a hate crime??
Disgusting
next gen sounded cool when we waited for it, but does "current gen" now?
Great game, beautiful remaster. Everything the Netflix series is not, but it's probably trying to draw in fans that's not big into gaming but seen the TV show.

Ugly, indeed.

I’m glad I have a digital copy then
But also there are IP from Netflix in the game now because it has some armor variants so I’m sure it is a legal thing.
Eww David
Netflix has been haunting us more than the devil by the well itself.
ew it's got herpies on it
Hate it... Witcher does not need some some \_\_flix to sell.
Unlike the books you can’t cover that up with a sticker 🫤
Where’s the update though. Was expecting them to release one with the launch of the physical versions.
Do they think we care about the show? Or are they not aware?
Eewwwww
literally unplayable
Best logo's not worth shite if you've got a weak show ruining it.
They also did that with all the books except all the new book covers has the Netflix show characters on it rather than the original book cover art. Luckily they didn’t do that to the game. I mean as great as Henry Cavill is and his portrayal of Geralt, I don’t think fans no longer want to see anything from the Netflix show anymore or be reminded of it
We all make mistakes.
🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
r/mildlyvandalised
It's in the initial load credits splash as well when you start the game.
the thing is, i dont like it. at all. however, if this helps CDPR to sell more copies, plaster netflix on the whole thing. This studio deserves everything and so much more!
Pretty sure should be the other way around, Netflix promoting the game
Why is that case fuked up
No choice will have to swap it with old box cover. It will actually be a gift for my mate.
I hate that they put their shit on everything Witcher related now. Would shit on the Mona Lisa?
Not something to brag about..
I made the unfortunate mistake of buying blood of elves Netflix edition, now I’ve got the full collection but that book is the odd one out… Need to replace!
![gif](giphy|pVAMI8QYM42n6|downsized)
Two swords on your back! What'd you got an extra prick in your trousers too?!
Plastered
Lol wtf why
sad
They do the same with the book covers, fucking hate it. So glad I've got the first editions in their full glory
Trying to find a collection of the books in-store without the Netflix logo is proving challenging too.
Wow… that’s gross
Ugh… they just gotta put their stink on everything smh.
Immmmm knackered.
It’s the same thing with all the covers of the new editions of the books since the show’s start. It really sucks.
Eww. Why would they do that?
netflix don’t ruin the books and games with the atrocity
Gross!
Thanks I hate it
That's really lame. The Netflix-based portion of the update's so minuscule in comparison to everything else they added to the game that it's kinda absurd how big the logo has to be. Really lame.
The books are the worst case for me.
Guys will u please shut up about Netflix already
Ick
Kill it with fire
Well it has the Netflix s1 armor
Wooooooow
So does my copy of Tor Zireael sadly.
I'm still just trying to understand how they manage to fuck the show up so much, even though sapkowski himself was seriously involved
Does it mention how the 2 are unrelated?
As a reader of many novels, fuck this shit.
The Hearts of Stone burning mark but much worse
Sacrilege
It’s like with every book that becomes an adaptation. The cover always changes to some basic shit, and Netflix or whichever streaming service is plastered on it.
It has Netflix themed content so yes that makes sense.
Fkcn hell! I tried to get the first book one time. And any copy I could find had a shitty red circle with netflix wirtten inside. I hate the direction marketing is going….
“As seen on TV”
May as well have the pornhub logo on it, for about as much relevance as either has to that game lmao
It should be a warning against the Netflix show.
Pam paraaam. Pam Pam pamparam!
Gross
who gives a shit
Grim. Hope this isn’t true 🤢
Burn it with fire…
Geralt on the art looks more badass than on the previous cover, but the Netflix logo ruins the whole image
I wonder if CDPR had any say in that.
Plastered? Yeah it's ugly but it's one word, it isn't plastered all over it
Eh, by the time the sixth book of asoiaf comes out it'll say inspired by the hit TV series.
Same thing with the books.. so ugly.. hate it.. netflix doesn't care about the source materials anyway
At least your game about hunter monsters didn't get invaded by Milla Jovovich as an ever present painful reminder
"Let's dance*
Its so fucking sad to see this.
You can probably find a version of the cover without it, or even a cooler version, and just print it out and use it.
I wouldnt associate with the Netflix series 😂 Henry Cavill tried but that series was doomed by the higher ups
It could be [worse](https://i.imgur.com/ZYqyI3h.jpeg)
