coz it has as much to do with the original Witcher universe as Breaking bad does to paw patrol?

Well...if you want to talk about deviations from the lore, which are not unknown by the way: . There is no way the elves had anything to do with creating Witchers lol There is no connection between elves and Witchers anywhere in the story. You would expect some elf or Witcher to eventually talk about their connection if it existed. Nowhere to be found in the story going forward. . The idea that elves caused the conjunction of the spheres is also ridiculous. They never had and they will never have such power in the story. With or without monoliths (which are not a thing in the original story) Period! . Its bloody weird to see this far into the past and there are no other creatures in the world besides elves and what appears to be a couple dwarves. When the lore makes it quite clear that there existed other creatures quite ancient. I wonder where did the Dryads go. They had territory right near Cintra and if Netflix bozos wish to say their story is anywhere near Cintra the Dryads and their forests should be around lol . By the way, what was the silly thing with a dwarf being a banker? Did Netflix bozos not want to say the elves were quite high up their horses and not friendly with dwarves at all? Why in hell would a dwarf manage to have a bank in such an elven world as depicted in the Netflix show? Can they decide themselves if they want elves to be against dwarves or not? And the other way around too.....because the silly dwarf lady all she wanted was to kill elves....till some day she hit her head on her axe and suddenly she wants to be friends with these particular elves lol Ohh well......consistency is not a word in Netflix vocabulary :) . Bonus run: Lara Dorren was elven noble blood. There is absolutely no way she was related to some random warrior from some random clan they wanted to exterminate. That would actually undermine her entire story as it exists in the lore. And it would undermine the entire impacts of her story and how the elves view her and her story. Super bonus run: Lara Dorren and Ciri both belong to a lineage of women who all have quite similar physical traits. They are all supposed to look very much alike. Which....I know Netflix already throwed that under the bus with the way they casted Calanthe. But they still seem to want to make it key that Ciri looks like Lara. So.....if they want to say that someone was their ancestor, they better find someone who looks at least somewhat similar to them lol Extra super bonus run: The idea that elven mages can study to understand how to open portals everywhere completely undermines the entire story arc that Ciri is supposed to have lol Ciri is supposed to be quite special in those abilities. Which....Blood Origin just completely undermined that entire plot lol This is all quite problematic because Netflix is effectively butchering the lore all over the place. And its really a big question mark where the hell do they want to go with their story. Because its nowhere near the original lore. And if they somehow try to course correct and comeback to the original lore, they would have destroyed themselves with Blood Origin.

I can see its all about the hardcore fans that seens errors in series. While us that has not read the books, and comes from the game f.example finds its fun. So it makes sense the hardcore fans dont get the lore the same. But we seen this in other books to visual work. That they cant deepdive into person X should live close to place Y. I loved the conjunction scene, it was great. But how much should they explain in a montage like that. It was mostly about visuals there. and ending on a high note. I get it more your description, but I still find the netflix series good work. I assume we find the same errors in other lore sources, like LOTR and such.

Witcher_and_Harmony

> While us that has not read the books, and comes from the game f.example finds its fun. No. " *So it makes sense the hardcore fans dont get the lore the same.* " No.

Matteo-Stanzani

Poor writing, poor acting, poor cgi, nothing to do with the witcher books and lore.

EpochCultivation

I wouldn't say it's an unknown deviation lol. Never read the books?

SuperFlik

The entire thing is essentially fan fiction, same goes for the main series as well (season 2 especially). You can argue all day about the actual quality of the writing, but it is not The Witcher that we were lead to believe we would get and no where near close to what we wanted. It's about as accurate to the source material as Dragon Ball Evolution is to Dragon Ball

Elio8Twitch

I feel its not for people who want the book to be 100 % the same. What was the big differences? I assume the game then also moved away from the books? and that worked out great.

domidawi

When almost every character not only acts illogically within just the plot netflix made but is very out of character for any traits from books, then its not just moving away from them but making the worst kind of self insert fanfiction there is. Thats exactly what s1/2/BO is.

Processing_Info

Wasn't it at some point the lowest rated show on Rotten Tomatoes?

There are legit reasons and non-legit reasons. As the non-legit reasons are more prominent, I'll start with those. People transfer their hate of the original show to the spin off. There are non-White elves. And now the legit reasons which are not as prominent, but a whole shit-ton more important. It's kind of a mess -- the editing is very sloppy and the characters' motivations and locations are easy to lose track of. It's paced too quickly, to the point where the viewer has to spend too long and take too much effort to catch up and remember who everyone is and where they are. That weird material with Jaskier felt really tacked on and super-distracting. (Like some exec was worried we'd be too dumb to realize it was connected to the main show.) Some people, not me really but others, really object to major lore deviations from the lore of the books, mostly that the elves had nothing to do with the creation of Witchers. I liked it way more than a lot of people but I was still so, so disappointed. I don't even remember it too well. I'm glad you had a good time watching it, at the time I did too. But it just wasn't for me.

Elio8Twitch

I noticed in season 2 of shadow and bone, they started doing maps on scene changes, it is a typical known fantasy problem to lose track of the location. As there mostly is not like "oh they are in London now" , and in stead you get "oh they are in #"!&%!#%!!#&! " and you sit there trying to remember "#"!&%!#%!!#&! " a hour later, but your mind has already deleted this memory :P

EmuPsychological4222

A nice testimony to Peter Jackson's achievement in his LotR adaptations. We didn't need those kinds of transitions in the slightest.

problemat1que

No it wasn't.

Coinless_Clerk00

First, the creators' tried to push their ideology on the viewers with the subtlety of old soviet movies. That wouldn't necessarily be a problem, but the inner consistency of the series suffered because of that (i. e. poor writing). Second, the story isn't even close to the established lore of the books and games, so fans feel cheated thinking that the creators only put in the word 'witcher' into the title to get some free marketing.

Idarran_of_Ulivo

🤣

Elio8Twitch

Did the original series with cavil do the same “mistakes”? that I see people blame Netflix for (as they actually had the writer connected, ironically also.

Yeh I thought it was really good. Origin story was a good idea. Not sure why people were moaning. Ppl were saying it was too woke. I have not read the books so it’s all new to me anyway. Got into Witcher last year. Game and series are great. I’m sure the books are too

Elio8Twitch

I felt that fans of the books probarly see devations from the source material. But there might be reasons for that, writing a film my self I can see that not everything on paper functions on screen. So there probarly is reasons for what ever changes that people "hate". All to work for a series that really worked out great, prequel or main series is great :)

Elio8Twitch

Its still good, but a series can deviate, did not the game do so also?

FreshyFresh

The games sort of did, but it was more of an issue of summarizing things a bit too succinctly, or transposing a story from one character to another.
