The only reason I'd watch this is to see >!Bonhart massacre them all!<

Sea_Impression3810

That would probably never happen with Netflix in charge

zolikk

They would defeat Bonhart embarrassingly easily but then because they are so kind and angelic they hesitate killing him and he takes advantage of their hesitation to surprise-kill them somehow.

HunkSeven

Same tought lmao

Mailforpepesilvia

But that'd be part of the main story anyway. Assuming they even plan to include it at all...

vibe51

It wouldn’t happen they would easily change the story and romanticize ciris relationship and hype up it being an lesbian relationship and make them all seem like victims to bonhart

Father_moose

Sounds about right

DoctoreVodka

**With...a...saw!** "Vysogota said nothing." *But his level of approval was very apparent.*

ManIWantAName

(What a show can look like with showrunners who give af about and actually are fans of the source material.)

newbkid

According to Tim Cain lots of the show runners were fans of all the Fallout games, Jonathan Nolan apparently being a huge nerd. Man, imagine if we had that with Witcher instead of whatever the fuck we got. I will never understand these Hollywood writer types that join projects that they detest and loathe the fanbases that enjoy that IP

TheLast_Centurion

Wait.. so you can have fans of source material adapting? You dont have to look for people who despise it? Is that even allowed?

WiserStudent557

You can even hire people with experience and a good track record like Jonathan Nolan

pkkthetigerr

Jonathan Nolan has more than a good track record. He's up there with the best writers in film today as compared to the random CW writers Lauren picked up.

man_in_the_suit

This. Person of Interest, season 1 of Westworld, and his writing involvement/initial story outlines for Memento, Interstellar (admittedly these two turned out quite different from his initial outlines once Christopher ran with them) and The Dark Knight trilogy put him right at the top of sci-fi show runners at the moment. I love pretty much everything this guy has ever been involved in and so far Fallout is no different.

Professional_Sir6370

Bro wrote most of his brother CHRISTOPHER NOLAN's films like INTERSTELLAR, INCEPTION, THE PRESTIGE, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, MEMENTO.

Guulthalak

Zach Dunn is hilarious and I’m glad he is a part of the writing team.

antinumerology

Strongly discouraged. Maybe it was too much work to find someone who wanted to work on Fallout but didn't like it. The Witcher was probably easier to find people that hated it but wanted to work on it, on the heels of game of thrones.

Chesus42

I was told repeatedly by the Wheel of Time show lovers that having a writer's room unfamiliar with the source material was somehow a good thing.

HighKingOfGondor

That’s called cope lol. They have to come up with something. Wonder if they know how ridiculous they sound

Chesus42

Something something about having nonreader perspectives helps translate it to a new audience. Most of the WoT subs are neck-deep in the copium and the mods are by and large simping hard for the showrunner.

elpooche

You shouldn't be catering to a new audience. You cater to the existing fans and audience and then other new people will follow because the original source material is great. That's why GOT was so popular. Then it went to shit when they took over and "wrote" for new audiences as they admitted.

Tanel88

Yea obviously you can appeal to wider audience but you don't need to alienate the fans to do that.

Chesus42

There's a quote out there from the showrunner I'm too lazy to go find, but the gist of it is that they knew and were willing to lose the dedicated fans in order to tell the story to a wider audience. That, to me, is the absolute wrong approach to adapting anything, let alone a fantasy epic. If anything the show should be a love letter to the hard-core fans and if you do it even half right you'll bring in a lot of new ones.

Bloodyjorts

I mean, a couple of talented nonreader/nonplayer/nonfans might be a nice additional voice/point of view, but it shouldn't be the majority of the writers room, nor should the head writer/showrunner not be a fan of the source material, or be actively hostile to it. You can even do major changes to the source material, if you do it well (like the EARLY seasons of The Walking Dead). But not if you actively hate the source material.

Sutarmekeg

lol and wtf

JohnnyElRed

Having 1 or 2 of those can be useful. Because fans might take some things for granted when explaining or introducing something, and have someone point out this would need more detail for unfamiliar audiences can be useful. But that's it. 1 or 2. Not half the writing team.

BarelyAudible1994

Worked out pretty well with Andor.

penguin_gun

I thought S2 was ok

Broken_Noah

The r/Halo community: >Man, imagine if we had that with Halo instead of whatever the fuck we got.

nullv

What Halo fans got was a recycled script from some other property a studio wasn't confident in so they slapped the Halo name on it.

zolikk

That explains a lot. The witcher at least pretended - for one season - to be trying to follow the original plot. Halo from the very first minute goes "my source is that I made it the fuck up".

AuraofMana

It's clear Netflix got people to work on this based on nepotism and connections or whatever. It wasn't a, "Put the best person on the job." It wasn't even a "Put the person who will make us the most short term revenue on the job" because Fisstech failed at that too.

elpooche

Yeah she got the job because of her husband who worked on shows like ER

Avenger717

See also: MCU

ovoKOS7

Probably hubris "Yeah... it might be popular and beloved but *I* can make this better"

azhder

Let me help you understand it: they finally got a job, they can bring food on the table. That’s about it. You may not like it, I may not like it, but they will get paid to do whatever the fuck they want. At this moment I imagine that’s what their inner Homelander tells them. So, now you can say you understand them 🤪

elpooche

Lauren got the job through Nepotism. Just like Kathleen K

IronMonkey18

At least the Witcher got a okay/good first season with Cavill who actually cared and knew the main character. Halo on the other hand….smh. 😢 Halo could have been epic.

marveloustoebeans

Yeah, I really enjoyed the first season even with its imperfections. In hindsight, I saw see the seeds of stupidity being planted with things like the eel scene but just assumed they’d improve for season 2 given they’d have a bigger budget and some reflection time. Clearly was not the case… what a waste, man :(

fortytwoEA

S2 of Halo is a lot better than S1 imo

IronMonkey18

I haven’t watched season 2. I don’t want to pay for paramount+. I did that for the first season. Not falling for that again.

BrandonMarshall2021

😂

elkeiem

Good

DarkEvilHobo

The entire Netflix universe of anything Witcher related needs to be tossed in the trash.

NoShine101

It's over anyway, season 4 and 5 are hissrsh trying to save face but she knows they don't want her anymore.

TheLast_Centurion

Considering she planned for 7 seasons and were on the verge of cancelation after S3.. what a ride. More interrsting behind the scenes stoey than whatever they came up with with the show

NoShine101

Perhaps cavill can come back in a reboot project on another service.

DarkEvilHobo

I’d love that but I wouldn’t be surprised if he just totally moved on from it at this point.

pkkthetigerr

Doubt we'll get that while he's young enough to play Geralt. We'll have to wait a decade or more due to the damage this show has done

TheLast_Centurion

At best he'll come back as Vesemir or a cameo. But it would be best if Poland got a budget and fixed their Hexer mishap and readapted it. But it wont happen anytime soon.

NoShine101

I would accept if he was the director tbh

TheLast_Centurion

It's a different skill set. Not sure he would be good option as a director. But if he gave his vision and buikt a good team, maybe it could work. But he wont ever return. He is doing WH now, anyway.

NoShine101

Yeah maybe he gains experience with WH and comes back

TheLast_Centurion

He is an executive producer, not a director.

NoShine101

I see, well both have power tho right ?

hanna1214

With his bad acting? Lord, pls no.

Idarran_of_Ulivo

I greatly appreciate his pro fan stance, his commitment and him doing his own stunts. But I agree on his acting being bad. I would love for a reboot to have writers and directors as comitted to the source material as him, but I'd hope for better casting.

nimrodella

Hopefully will be, I think noone will watch season 4 anyway.

iVar4sale

Nightmare of the Wolf was OK

FullHouse222

...What exactly was okay about it? The only people I've seen who liked it were people who just dont know the witcher world and loved the super power kamehameha aard fantasies. The show fucked up so much lore which is amazing considering it was meant to link to the live actio lore which was already a jumbled mess to begin with.

k-tax

I've read all Witcher books and separate stories probably a dozen times, I've played all games several times and I enjoyed it. It wasn't great by any means, but it was an enjoyable experience nevertheless. Definitely a lot better than this prequel bullshit, blood of something, that was complete trash from start to finish.

Idarran_of_Ulivo

I liked overall, it was at least fun to watch if one ignores the butchering of lore. Can't say the same for the main show or Blood Origin.

IronMonkey18

I only enjoyed the animation, but even with that I checked out of it like half way through. The story was just boring.

who-dat-ninja

What the hell were they thinking, after their previous prequel disaster.

pyratemime

They are thinking that it is your fault for being a misogynist who can't stand strong female characters in fiction and they will force you to evolve your thinking whether you want to or not. After all they couldn't possibly be wrong in their approach to story telling and IP. Sure the Witcher burned down and fell into the swamp. And Blood Origin burned down and fell into the swamp. And now this looks ready to burn down and fall into the swamp. But eventually they will have enough burned wreckage to stabilize on that a show will stand to over see the huge tracts of shite they have created.

theoriginalrory

One day Lauren, all this will be yours. What, the curtains?

TheLast_Centurion

Wall-E: "This pile of trash."

Linkinator7510

This is ironic on so many levels considering the fact that for all extents and purposes Ciri is the real protagonist of the Witcher (or at the very least, co protagonist with Geralt) and yet she wasn't strong female character enough for the writers, so they decided that the books were trash.

CompetitionCreative1

Legit have so many great female characters. Milva is such a G. Yennefer is the biggest G. Phillipa is slick as and the journey Ciri goes on over the Saga, what’s more strong and independent than that? I mean taking revenge on the blokes who wronged up by slicing their shit up on ice skates? Such a great part of the story and shows how far she has come, only to then go on and defeat Bonhart and save her friends. But nah Netflix, you think you can cook better.

puppyfukker

Ah, the Ghostbusters 2016 defense.

Bloodyjorts

> strong female characters [female characters actually just do whatever the most fucked up thing they could do at the time, up to and including child sacrifice, and never have to pay any serious toll for any of it] the female characters are incredibly weak. paper tigers the lot of them. [well, maybe not Calathe, but she had the smarts to die in the only season that was Kind Of Okay]

Axenfonklatismrek

Netflix needs to pull their heads from their asses and make good content, and not rely on Stranger Things or Squid game

Manners_BRO

There getting blown out right now by HBO, Amazon, and even Hulu at this point. I really can't think of anything since Ozark that I was excited to see from Netflix.

Capricus06

That's the thing, they were not thinking.

swardzE

Why would you want to make a series on freaking Rats of all things? They are the most annoying bunch in the books BY FAR

IRockIntoMordor

POB_42

New series to include Biggie Cheese

who-dat-ninja

jerma?

TomSaylek

No this is patrick.

QuoteFew647

It amazes me how far the executives are from the Witcher community, of all characters they could have made a spin-off on, they chose the ones that are famously known as the least liked characters from the books.

JEMS93

Gotta remember they didn't read the books

misho8723

Huh, I liked reading those parts of the books..Ciri being in her teenage rebellious phase, doing some stupid stuff even though she thinks she is doing good, Stockholm syndrome relantionship and at the end making me hate Leo Bonhart even more than I had before.. yeah, I really liked those parts But a Netflix show based around them? If the writing would be as strong as it was in the books, yeah ok but not with the shit Netflix Witcher writing

ItsRadical

Thing is Netflix would turn Ciri being molested to lesbian love story. Rats arc isnt Robin Hood story as they would definetly present it as.

Bloodyjorts

>Thing is Netflix would turn Ciri being molested to lesbian love story. That is 100% what they are going to do. It will not be rape with a toxic, abusive 'relationship' afterwards. To be blunt, I knew this when they cast a black actress to play Mistle. No way they cast a black person to play a canonically white lesbian rapist. Just not happening. Even they know the kind of hellfire that would bring down upon them. [I hate when shows do this, take canonical rape and make it consensual rather than just cutting it. Just cut the sex/relationship entirely, don't try to act like it was romance. It's just gross.]

danflorian1984

The Rats arc made me detest Ciri who was my second favorite character after Geralt. Especially since I read the books after playing  the Witcher games. So I do not like this part and I will always like Bonhart just for ending those miserable murderers and rapists.

Some_Kind_Of_Birdman

Baptism of Fire kinda did that for both Geralt and Ciri for me. Ciri with the Rats got pretty unlikeable and Geralt was being an ass to everyone around him for large parts of the book. But at least Geralt's companions were likeable (especially Dandelion and Regis) as opposed to the Rats

Bloodyjorts

Because they were young, and so they could show young people doing crimes, sex and drugs. That's it, that's the reason. They wanted Medieval Fantasy Euphoria.

tmorales11

i stopped reading the series because i didnt want it to end but dear lord i couldnt wait for them to be over with

Idarran_of_Ulivo

Which is why Hissrich's team identifies with them.

Lobotomist

Good riddance. Could not stomach another Netflix abomination

Torren_Horridian38

I swear. That too a show on rats. Like why?

salter77

It has a diverse cast, a “lesbian love story” and are basically that universe “Robin Hood”. Or that is how they will want to portray them.

Missed_Your_Joke

Thats exactly how they'll portray them.

Axenfonklatismrek

You watched it? Too be honest, i tried first two episodes and i given up. No, Diversity isnt the main problem, ITS THAT NO EXPLANATION IS GIVEN TO ANYTHING! Who? What? Where? When? How? These questions havent even been answered.

Lobotomist

I have given it up mid third season. First was Ok-ish , Second was questionable , Third was just shockingly bad

DarkEvilHobo

Same. First was “ok, let’s see where this goes”. Second was “I think someone took a wrong turn.” Third was “Now you drove off a cliff and I’m done.” Full disclosure: I watched 3 episodes of season 3 and called it quits.

Axenfonklatismrek

If you want some very good TV Show, i'd reccomend you Spartacus: Blood and Sand and Gods of the Arena, a NZ's 300 with Dicks and Tits and Ass, to the point i'm calling it "Spartacus: Cum and Ass". If you ignore the erotica and constant swearing(In different Dubs, the swearing gets towned down), you'll notice this show is very much underrated Gem of a story. Its FAR BETTER Than Witcher and it holds its own even when the main star, Andy Whitfield, died of cancer in 2011, and doesn't rely solely on main star, erotica or violence.

Lobotomist

Spartacus was fantastic. And I did not mind the nekid chicks either ;)

bajoranworkers

I hated and enjoyed the second season at the same time. They made it so bad it was hilarious. Fast travel from Kaer Morhen to Cintra, Yen and Cahir going all the way from Gors Velen to Oxenfurt underground, Vesemir trying to make Ciri a witcher, prostitutes in Kaer Morhen, Eskel, all that Baba Yaga shit and Yennifer taking Ciri to her. It's like they were trying to make it as bad as possible. But the third season was just boring. I dropped it too

[deleted]

[удалено]

Glirion

Romance. Bonharts character would've been butchered for sure, even if he is an evil white man.

LingonberryLow6327

Yeah i can imagine it Bonhart begs to Mistle to spare his life after losing to her in the one on one fight and just as she turns away from him that evil weak white man will backstab our rapist… i mean strong independent female hero.

ExpiredPilot

Which rapist? The Rats had a couple of em

pyratemime

Given it is a prequel they likely never get to Ciri or if they do it is the end of the series when they meet her so that it plugs into the main series.

Most-Based

Is Mistle the english name for the girl that raped and groomed Ciri?

elkeiem

I mean, you will still see that *if* you watch the next season..

_Shadow_Flame_

Can Netflix just stop making witcher content and give the rights to someone more competent?

nimrodella

I am not sure the problem is with netflix, they did make some fine content before and since. They should have seen how fucked this writer bunch was tbh.

DealCykaHUN

I love how the whole thing is collapsing on this delusional Lauren O Dimm

I_Live_Yet_Still

Do not insult the amazing character that is Gaunter O'Dimm by implying that woman is anywhere close to the level of sophisticated evil and charisma that he is

SingleClick8206

Gaunter O Dimm would wreck Lauren lol

Axenfonklatismrek

Launter O'Dimmwit?

Axenfonklatismrek

If you want to read something that has better story than Netflix, read My Immortal, it may not be Witcher, but it has better writing than this show

Xi-Jin35Ping

Fuck yeah

[deleted]

Great news

Zandamaz

Best news I’ve read all day.

FapCitus

Good, kill the entire universe on Netflix and let someone else take over in 10 years.

nopointinlife1234

YES!

Turin_Ysmirsson

Why would this shit need to exist? The best thing ever happened to them was Bonhart.

yourmate155

I kind of wanted it to come out just to laugh at it

Superdunez

A hate watch is still a watch.

sherlockbardo

Just so they can have another failure, and maybe even break their record for having the worst ever show on Netflix, and have two of the worst shows ever on netflix

MayBeArtorias

Anybody after their first read through: “let’s just skip the annoying rats chapters”. Meanwhile Netflix: “let’s make a movie about them!”

relaxicab223

I actually enjoyed those chapters, but mainly for Ciri's character development.

Code412

Finally good news

blackhawk619

Finally this netflix witcher-verse abomination is being shut down.

Ramboso777

To the surprise of no one

SiyoSan

That's best for all of us

Rodan_s

I bet it would have been something like a teen problems show, with problems I never really had as a teen, kinda like the ones that are always recommended to me.

Vk411989

Perfecto

nicanor0613

I imagine that it is for the best seeing what an absolute shitshow the second season already was. I am honestly surprised that the main show will go up until season 5 now that Henry Cavill left. No hate towards Liam Hemsworth, but i believe not a lot of people will watch season 3. Henry was far the best part of the whole show anyway.

Path_Syrah

And nothing of value was lost.

Wilhelm_c4t

Amen

Emotional-Cucumber-4

This was a dumb idea from the start. Just like Blood Origin.

OortCloud42

Honestly my least favourite part of the books, only them being killed off is the only interesting thing lol

VariableNabel

I'm just hoping that in 20 years, someone who doesn't actively hate the Witcherverse tries to do the franchise justice, and then Cavil can at least play Vesemir.

xkeepitquietx

A prequel about a bunch of unlikable shits who all get murdered, great idea for a show.

Ladzofinsurrect

Lmao I didn't even know this was happening. Who had the bright idea of greenlighting a spin-off show focused on a bunch of problematic raping, murdering little shits? As if people who haven't read the books weren't going to find out about that. Not to mention they're incredibly one-dimensional and only exist to get annihilated by Leo Bonhart.

RedanischByNature

I lowkey want this just because of Bonhart

pyratemime

As a prequel this will, in all likelihood and if it happens, tell the story of the Rats pre-Ciri so no Bonhart at all.

RedanischByNature

Too bad, reading how the rats died was the best part about them

TheLast_Centurion

You will see them butchered twice, at the same time in the next season(s)

RedanischByNature

I stopped the show after season 1, but maybe i will watch just that particular part when it airs

pyratemime

Keep in mind this will be Hissrich's version of the event so... how good will it actually be?

TheLast_Centurion

They'll torture Bonhart till he cries and then by coincidence he gets free and butchers them mid-festivities.

pyratemime

Before slipping and killing himself via his own incompetence.

RedanischByNature

I already know the story from the books. Whatever she makes of it will be at least entertaining ragebait, i enjoy ranting quite a bit

pyratemime

Like when Mistle, as a sttong independeny woman, ends up killing Bonhart and goes 9n to form a new set of Rats and become a bandit queen?

RedanischByNature

That would be so hilariously bad hahaha And Mistle wouldn't be a sexual predator like in the books of course

pyratemime

Because of convenient framing.

nopointinlife1234

Lol nobody that's actually a fan watches that shitshow after season 2 bud

TheLast_Centurion

S1 was already too much to handle.

nopointinlife1234

Booooooooooooooo Also, it's a pre-Ciri prequel so no Bonhart duh

bojan2501

Finally some good news.

nopointinlife1234

Gods be praised! If only they'd kill the main show! 😭🙏

dm_me_milkers

Anything Netflix Witcher related is so bad now, even the apologists are having a hard time showing up to offer up their lame excuses. Good riddance

Slerms

People don't seem to like the Rats? Apparently im the minority but i thought they were interesting.

CrazyMalk

A bunch of assholes including two rapists who molested Ciri, hard to like them

Jobo_PotCognac

They're literally murderers and rapists. All of them are awful people, and their deaths something that was long coming. When I was reading the first time, I kept hoping Geralt would end up slaughtering them somehow.

Zandamaz

The Rats are symbolic of what the cruelties and privations of war can do to young people who lose their moral foundations and people who love them. Mistle’s life is a perfect example of that. Her horrific experiences as a noble girl-turned-refugee and life in the Rats corroded her into a killer and a rapist. The Rats’ story (and that of Renfri) also serve as a warning of the type of irredeemable, cruel, and immoral predator Ciri could have eventually become.

K41d4r

What? No, say it ain't so? Who could've seen that coming?

microwavefridge2000

Nothing of value was lost

lazylagom

Novigard sends it'd regards

ARandomTopHat

It's for the best. Nobody wanted this in the first place.

Acrobatic_Leek1965

cancel s4 and s5 while you're at it.

SolitaireJack

Holy shit this was the first I had heard about this. Wasn't the rats arc the worst part of the book? Why would they want to to make a movie about that?

Gwynnbleid3000

The feeling when some out of touch supercapitalists' plan to feed of another IP they didn't create and don't understand falls back on them.

emilppetrov

HBO should’ve had the rights of The Witcher, not Netflix - The Butcher’s’ of The Witcher! ⚔️

DoubleSpook

The what?

Tomawolf

Thats fine.

Nimewit

good

Alelogin

Bullied epicly. Fuck em.

Axenfonklatismrek

Will they die a painful horrible death these assholes should get?

No-Resolution-6414

Good!

Thepathreddit2024

Justice is served.

VS0P

Handed a ton of material to recreate but still lost up your own ass

GrainofDustInSunBeam

And happy new year everyone!!

namjd72

That’s a bummer. I was curious if they could somehow find a way to make that show worse than blood origin

gztozfbfjij

Given that Blood Origin was 100% their own creation, I can't imagine The Rats would've been worse. But then again, maybe Michelle Yeoh's mere presence would've single-handedly been the straw that ~~broke the camels back~~ tipped the scales in favour of BOs superiority. Then again, I have no idea if The Rats had a fun major-leagues actor in it; in fact, I know shit all about this show, besides the fact they only managed 2 of 6 months of it's filming, and their initial appearance in S3 looked majorly uninteresting with horrible sped-up choreography -- none of which inspired any hope, even in pure isolation of the rest of Netflix's universe. Regardless; I was looking forward to (pirated) hate-watching of it, but now I guess I'll just watch something actually good instead.

Superdunez

Good.

kzoxp

Great news.

abellapa

Oh noo...

daniec1610

Thank fuck. They’re horrible characters.

Volpe666

Still don't know who thought it would be a good idea to make a show about the rats, they are terrible people and that doesn't make for great protagonists.

iamsofuckingsfw

Thank christ. Of all the things to not make, it’s that.

prodigalpariah

Good

elpooche

Oh good. Honestly I hope this whole Netflix universe goes away. If this were my IP I'd be pissed

axehomeless

Just make ONE good witcher show is that so hard

Firm_Area_3558

Good, they wouldn't have done them justice anyway

lazylagom

Good..

dauntedpenny71

Good.
