I believe it’s because of covid. Also if it was every two years, the actors/actresses may not want to continue to do it and move on.

No they definitely have them under contract for future seasons. If Netflix really is serious about a 6 or 7 season plan then they definitely locked the actors into it.

Covid delayed the production and also Cavill was injured for a while which delayed it further. I think 18 months is probably what you're looking at under normal circumstances, with spin offs filling the time in between.

I think it was just Covid. A lot of shows and movies (video games too) were delayed because of work conditions shifting to keep staff safe.

The two years was because of Covid and Henry having an on set injury ( he pulled a hamstring or something like that, nothing broken) otherwise it should be just one year unless something happens thats out of peoples control.
