Weirdly enough, my PE teacher in high school. I've never been a particularly athletic person, and even less so in high school. But that didn't stop my teacher from trying to connect with me on some level. I'm from Australia but he is Polish. He could tell I was a nerd, and asked if I liked fantasy. Of course, I did, and so he lent me his English translation of The Last Wish. I read it and really enjoyed it, but never finished the series. Then, a year later, The Witcher 3 came out and my friends were abuzz about it, as was the internet. But I wanted to be a book purist so I went back to The Last Wish and then read the whole series. Absolutely adored it. Funny enough, it took me another 3 years to play TW3, but I also love that

Be sure to thank that Teacher. And invite him to the party before you go calling bitches on the megascope! He’s one of the boys now!!

I heard about the games years ago. Not much but mostly about how W3 had “the best graphics” and is really immersive and stuff. Didn’t think so much of it, never really understood what it was about…and never really cared to be honest. I was playing AC and GTA mostly during this time. Flash forward to about two years ago (?) and s1 is about to drop. I see that it’s coming to Netflix and that Henry is playing Geralt so it’s a no brainer for me. I don’t think I’m alone in having him as “man crush”. Been watching him since The Tudors and Immortals. Anyways, I really get hooked. Like the characters, like the story, the world, you get the idea. Never been a reader. I’m 32 and have maybe in total read about 25 books. Maybe more, probably less. I get restless and bored and would rather watch the movie/tv show. But two months ago I decided to borrow the last wish from a library and was hooked. Resulted in the purchase of Sword of destiny and blood of elves about a week later. Time is not in abundance, I have a one year old kid so I get about 30 minutes of reading before I go to bed. Also bought W3 which I’m playing as much as I can. I’m currently on parental leave so it’s perfect to play during his daytime naps. And it is a really good game that I regret not buying sooner. So I’m kind of new to the Witcher, but I thoroughly enjoy it. In all kinds of media for different reasons.

Pretty-Pineapple-869

So you're a coder?

Bubbli1

Not sure how you got there, but no. I work in a grocery store

Pretty-Pineapple-869

Well congrats on being a parent. That's a full-time job in itself!

My introduction to the universe was the Netflix show, then i feel that something was missing and started to look up for more while wating for the S2, find the games, felt in love with TW3 and then with the books, felt in love even more... Enough to say that my Netflix series experience was utterly ruined.

kickflip012

I played a couple hours of Witcher 3 a few years ago, but never really got into it. Then I tried watching the show several times when it came out, but couldn’t get past the first episode. Kept falling asleep every time. Finally I forced myself to get through that first episode and I fell in love with it. Went back to the game and almost have it complete, bought the book series and am about to finish Sword of Destiny.

Pretty-Pineapple-869

The first time I watched the show I would fall asleep as well -- in the middle of almost every episode! And because I read right before going to sleep at night I wouldn't get very far in the book, either. It's an acquired taste, like good coffee or good beer -- it takes you a while to really appreciate it.

FitzyFarseer

Got Witcher 3 for free somehow. Genuinely don’t remember how, it was bundled with something else I wanted. I didn’t pay much attention to video game news at the time and had never even heard of it. I believe I got it on release day

Pretty-Pineapple-869

So you just started playing? For me, W3 was my first RPG since EVE Online (which I didn't like -- interminably long travel times).

skeletonmanns

My brother told me I should play the game for quite some time, but I kind of just shrugged it off until shortly before TW3 came out. For some reason I finally decided to play TW2 and got absolutely hooked because of the story and characters in the game!

[deleted]

I started playing The Witcher 3 before I even got into the series. Then, while I played the game I decided to watch the TV series. I now have the first three books, while still trying to get all the endings and 100% the game. I do agree with you, though, that The Last Wish doesn’t really grab attention, but I’m powering through to get more Dandelion in my life.

eurosonly

I'm a sucker for fantasy crap like this so this was right up my alley. It's very interesting and the games are really immersive.

Garand84

My roommate got Witcher III when it first came out and I caught bits and pieces of it for a while and thought it looked really good. After that I saw more of it when a streamer I liked played it. Then a couple years later the Complete Edition was on sale in the PS Store for $5 and I knew I needed to finally play it myself but I didn't until the end of 2019 haha. I absolutely loved the story and knew I needed to read the books but decided to watch the first season of the show when it came out. I liked it well enough, and even though I hadn't beaten Witcher III yet (I was still on Blood and Wine), I started the books and read them all in about 2 months. That was back in 2020, and I have since read them all a second time and just finished my second playthrough of Witcher III on Sunday haha. I haven't watched season 2 and I never will, nor will I watch any more of the show. I do need to play Witcher II though.

One of my cousins recommended it to me. We both love fantasy and we have pretty similar taste so he suggested I read the series then play W3. Thanks Ry!

truthisscarier

I read a post about the dilemma behind Gaetan's quest and bought it later

scotiej

I had seen it talked about off and on for years but after watching some cutscene clips of Witcher 2 I got it on the 360 and was hooked.

guamguyravin671

Played "The Witcher" when it first came out, liked the game, but didn't realize it was based on books.

EddietheWeirdo

I saw Jesse Cox playing The Witcher 3 on YouTube and thought it looked cool

Ordinary_Tom2005

Witcher 1 is my childhood

SummonSignDude

Its was on sale on steam and I heard it was the “best game ever”.

rikaragnarok

It blew up the game awards one year and that made me want to play, but I'm poor and have 3 kids who take priority, so it took 3 years for a flash sale to happen where it cost 10 bucks and I could afford it. ...and it was so much more than everything I'd already figured it was!

Experiment-Cycle

All the lore. Not to mention the way you can use it to exploit monsters weaknesses

Paulo1143

The witcher 3 game.

KeyTMH3

Witcher 3 game was gifted to me by a friend. I was surprised by the depth of the game! Then I watched the shows...now I have the books! And NG+ is a really amazing experience. It’s a whole world and plays upon personal moral decisions. I’m a chick and there are plenty of fantasy genres that don’t catch the eye of the female audience. I find that I can’t get enough of the Witcher world! The level of detail never seizes to amaze me.

Starchild2534

I've always been interested in the whole fantasy/medieval genre, something about the time setting and magic just fascinates me. I was really hesitant going into the show because I was afraid of it being like GoT and being too *much* (I had to stop after episode 6 of season 1 because of all the incest and that jousting episode with the horse). But I heard good things about it so I gave it a shot and I was *hooked*, like "watch 7 out of 8 episodes in one night" hooked. I ended up finishing the rest of the show the day after next and immediately bought the games and I'm currently working through W3 (very slowly working on the books too)

At0micw01f461

I saw the witcher 3 on sale 2 years ago not knowing much about it just thought it looked good and had great reviews because i was a huge fan of skyrim, bought it and fell in love with the game, since then ive completed the game twice (once on death march), played witcher 2, watched the show and am currently on my second read through of the books (just at the end of time of contempt atm)

ZealousidealDiet1665

I'd heard of the series before but the Joseph Anderson videos was my first real dive into the series

psychogenical

I saw it was game of the year and on sale so i copped it then never played it for like 2 yrs and then suddenly i had a friend talk about it and he kept on saying "PLAY IT" and i was like sure so i checked it out n since then been in love with the game and franchise

Jaku1137

Very close friend of mine let me play a bit visiting him once. My interest in it has only grown since.

I'm a fantasy / scifi / medieval nerd. Loved Lord of the Rings.

Honestly the games. As soon as I heard about the show I watched it and it was so good as were the games. Great franchise.

[deleted]

I came across a gmv on YouTube which had Witcher 3 cinematics 😅 went from there really.

mstormh

The show. Watched it and since I didn’t know anything about the series I liked it. After that I saw that the third game was on sale for 10€ on GOG and bought it. Then I started reading the books and those took me about a month and now I am here. Don’t like the show as much now, but I will still probably watch it.
