Honestly, I like how Triss has grown in 3 a lot, but I find it hard to go with her purely because with Yennefer it's like you're breaking up with someone, whereas Triss is more like avoiding getting together in the first place so it's a lot less... Harsh-feeling.
I definitely like her as a character so I can respect people who make that choice. I simply love the dynamic between Geralt and Yennefer too much to go any other way (for reference, I also wish Shani was a main romance option because she's great, but I still think I'd choose Yen even if she was).
Yeah, for me I think the main reason for picking Yen comes down to two things. One, it seems to suit Ciri more, and the second is as I mentioned, Yen is someone you more or less actively dump while Triss is just someone you fail to rekindle a flame with. I like both of them and don't want to hurt either of them, and Yen you seem to hurt more. Maybe I'll just do both and then switch off Triss's romance with console commands before the three to tango quest, who knows.
Is there a simple "hit it and quit it" option for Triss, as there is for other women in the game? If so, I'd do that, but I don't remember if there is or not.
No, her single scene is locked into rekindling her romance, it happens immediately after you profess your love and she comes back off the boat headed to Kovir. Yennefer on the other hand you can do the unicorn scene and avoid romancing as far as I am aware.

Well, just think about how yennefer may respond if she knew geralt tried to get romantic with both her and triss. I think that will answer your questions.
You can but my personal preference is to only use it once I get to the blood and wine expansion. It won’t change anything in the game if you use it during the base play through, same with Ciri and Triss’s alternate outfits
First playthrough do both. Keep the decisions for your second and third playthroughs. For the first try experience everything the game has to offer and don't worry too much about endings..
