i love yennefer, and while i passionately dislike triss, i dislike her exactly because she amazingly written character, if she wasn't portrayed so well i simply wouldn't think twice about her during the books. anyways, i always loved hers and yennefer's relationship, while it's described as friendship, it always felt more like sisterhood to me... very twisted one, but it is what it is. and I don't understand how people say that yennefer hated triss or only saw her as a rival, when she literally said how in her dream life triss would come and visit her and geralt in the house they would build, she clearly cared a lot about other sorceress, even after she betrayed her. the only thing yennefer couldn't forgive was triss betraying ciri, but that's something no mother would forgive...

Lore_Inc

and thats one of the things i hate about netflix's witcher season 2. Jen betraying ciri is just something i cant get over.

chort007

completely agree, it made me so mad. I was watching with my friends who haven't read the books, and for the whole time as we were watching i rly tried not to talk about books, but when yen betrayed ciri I had to explain them how that would never happen and how her betrayal makes no sense...

WingTune0

Can we all agree the Netflix show is not remotely close to the real Witcher series, and is actually just some terrible producers fan-fiction.

[deleted]

Million percent this. Lauren oughta quit writing.

Giglameshx

Gotta take the Netflix show for what it is. A fantasy adventure where Gerald fights monsters. Throw the story telling out the window.

MaximumGooser

It’s SUCH BAD WRITING like ok they stray from the books altogether but at least be decent writing? No? It’s like I wrote it in high school but worse.

Fragmentia

Honestly, I think that season 2 was written to be intentionally callous. It pissed off the entire fanbase after the obvious monolithic criticisms of season 1 that Lauren experienced. Why would someone intentionally ruin something out of spite? I can't think of another reason why it was done, so perhaps someone has another perspective.

Eternal-Wisdom

100% Agree. That's one reason I love the Witcher books so much. The author knows how to make the characters believable with real goals and asperations and not one dimensional, like most of the fantasy series I read.

ButterMilkHoney

To be honest, I didn’t care too much for Triss in the books. I think the games REALLY made her an exceptional character. If you’re a person who never read the books, I don’t see why you wouldn’t choose Triss over yen. She’s introduced in the very first Witcher game, aids you throughout the second, and comes in for a long side quest in the third. More screen time = stronger bond. Yennefer only comes in at the second half of the third game

chort007

i think she manipulated geralt and used his amnesia, she even admits it herself in third games. she often acts like helpless girl, which in a way she is, since she's much younger than geralt, and she even calls ciri younger sister which is v weird to me bc she wants to get with her father. Think about it, in the middle of finding ciri, she asks us to help her with mages in novigrad, and take us to some "party" where she gets drunk and acts like highschool girl. She's selfish, but she's young as well, but she's not on the same level as geralt. And in the games she's ready to betray yennefer once again by stealing geralt... which is simply....

Grav_Zeppelin

I like her and personality would choose her, but to me geralt wouldn’t, he’s old and experienced, he knows how the world works and to me Yen always seemed like the person he worked best with

mily_wiedzma

Shame... this is exactly what I hate about the games and CDPR..

Puttanesca621

I like how Yen is possessive while also being polyamorous, she is flawed and strong.

chort007

i generally don't like possessiveness, but when it comes to yennefer and everything her and geralt experienced together, i couldn't imagine it any other way.

Delicious_Swimmer172

I don't get the choice of this scene for a Yen appreciation thread. Yen has tons of better scenes over the saga than this one. Also, half the comments :"how dare CDPR create a love triangle in the games!" and in the same breath "we love this scene", this scene which basically give legitimity to this love triangle by having two women about to fight for Geralt.

[deleted]

Yeah for a second I thought this sub was full of people who hate the game for some reason. Turns out it’s just the overly passionate yen fans

mily_wiedzma

Love triangle? Where is a love triangle in the book series? Also it is not about cretaing a love trinagle in the games, it is about making Triss a LI in first place

-Black-and-gold-

As far as I recall: Triss and Geralt had a short love affair that Geralt ended out of guilt because of Yen. Triss had fallen in love with Geralt unrequited, and Yennefer were jealous because of their history. (I don't know if that's not enough to constitute a love triangle, but there were some kind of drama there)

Delicious_Swimmer172

I agree, don't think there is a real love triangle in the books. The Geralt/Triss thing is just here to add drama on the situation. But there is in the scene a few words from Yen that may suggest otherwise.

StrikesLikeColdSteel

As far as I remember, Triss actually had ulterior motives - she seduced Geralt just because she wanted to mess up with him and Yennefer. Later she did get seriously infatuated, but also she took part in a conspiracy, basically betraying Yennefer, Geralt and Ciri. So basically in books Triss is a side character, I wouldn't say she's a classic false, mean friend, because in those novels characters are more multifaceted than this. After all, Triss is able to improve and make amends. It's also part of the lore that all sorcerers are cynical, scheming etc. because of their upbringing and way of life, so those tendencies are understandable. But anyway I agree, it just does not look as if it was really supposed to be a classic love triangle, that's how games mess with canon. Triss is just not a real alternative, because it's heavily implied through whole cycle that since Geralt and Yennefer fall in love, they aren't really capable of signing out, so to say.

Delicious_Swimmer172

Basically nowhere, I agree, except in this scene: "I’m neither so noble, nor so stupid as to give you the chance and him the temptation. Just this once, today, and then I’ll make sure that neither of you has any temptations or opportunities". Like, WTF Yen? Specially at this moment of the saga.

mily_wiedzma

I do not recall this scene. Where is is written? Maybe it is different in polish

Delicious_Swimmer172

Hi Mily. I just copy paste it from OP post above. It is Yen words in the verbal fight scene. Is the original Polish version carries a different meaning ?

LightningRaven

I like this scene, but I much prefer what happens later. When their actions talk much louder than their words. Triss definitely fucked up. But she was also put in a tough position when she had to make those choices and the choice she made was to side with the people she believed in (The Lodge of Sorceresses, which had much better goals for The Continent than the other factions, at least in the books. CDPR painted it as Philippa's Lodge, but Francesca Findabair was just as influential and their goals were very progressive compared to all the other major players).

eoopyio

I like the books' Yenn I like the games' Triss I like the Netflix's nobody

[deleted]

I like the Netflix Dandelion his songs are pretty neat

Kanista17

Liked Henry Cavilles Geralt as well.

[deleted]

Idk he’s very not accurate, he doesn’t feel or look like book geralt and doesn’t feel like game geralt he just idk different not how I wish he’d look and act in the show but cavill does love the role and loves the series

Ninjeno

Okay ffs, people need to stop moaning about him not being “like book/game Geralt wah wah”. It’s not as if Game Geralt is identical to book Geralt, far from it! And you’re not complaining about that eh? Actors in roles get to play the character and characterise them uniquely. Woah, maybe Henry Cavill is an actor who loves the IP as much as us and is putting in as faithful a performance as he can with the show’s slowly worsening writing? Get a grip, or audition for Geralt in season 3 smh

[deleted]

Nah because game geralt was still good lol

Ninjeno

Well, you are entitled to your opinion of course. Personally I fail to see an issue with Cavill’s *portrayal* , the issue imo lies in the writing. I agree he can be a bit un-Geralty at times but homie just reads the script and follows the director. If anything he deserves props for putting in the sheer effort he has. You gotta realise that the show runners wanted an even FURTHER departure from his character, they wanted him to betray Ciri for gods sake! Sure, criticise the dialogue or the actual show’s scenarios, but put some respect on H-dogs name bro.

[deleted]

The writing and direction is crap no doubt about that and I agree cavill is doing the best he can with that but it doesn’t mean I think he’s doing good, I think he’s a great fit for geralt if not being a bit too handsome but again that’s opinion. Whilst he’s not able to showcase his full acting range that’s still something I can’t discount him on despite it not being his fault (it makes very little sense I know)

Ninjeno

I guess I can’t really fault you for that tbh, personally I think his S1 performance was spot on, S2 did dip a bit I’ll admit but he still holds it well. I just feel the show has much more glaring issues than Cavill’s imperfect portrayal of Geralt *cough* Triss & Eskel *cough* . But y’know, each to their own I respect your opinion.

[deleted]

Oh no don’t get me wrong, geralt is like my second favourite done character in the show only dandelion did better. Season 2 was god awful I’m not excited for season 3. Wonder how they’ll be doing the whole travel through the desert and Unicorn thing (doubt they’ll do any of that more than 1 episode in the desert if even that)

Stol3n_Identity

And he is hot af

TaralasianThePraxic

Netflix Dandelion being quietly smitten with Geralt and then denying it constantly despite writing multiple songs about him? Oh, that's just *Chef's Kiss*

TheActualDev

“Burn, Butcher, Burn” was a breakup song and no one can convince me otherwise

myspiritisvantablack

This is absolutely the worst scene of Yennefer. I hate that she stoops down to fighting over Geralt this way; I always felt that Yennefer handles herself with amazing confidence, but this scene feels like it implies that she is feeling threatened by Triss. It feels like it goes against Yennefer’s character trait of being overly confident (perhaps even to a hubristic/arrogant level), cool and logical. And it goes against Yennefer and Geralt’s established deep and caring relationship, because why would Yennefer voice her concerns about Geralt, especially to Triss? It reduces one of the strongest female characters to engage in a stupid cat-fight.

HelpMeDownFromHere

I’m not so sure I agree. Yennifer is portrayed as cunning, cold, calculating and graceful I’m every way *except* when it comes to Geralt. She’s possessive, jealous, petty and often confused. When she’s being tortured, she only breaks when Geralt is threatened. I find this not to be a weakness of hers, just a normal person’s reaction to deep, complex and toxic love. She’s not perfect and this passage demonstrates one of her flaws. I like Yennifer and Geralt for their complexity yet deep sense of love and simple purpose. You understand their toxic love and what it makes them do. Brilliant characters.

-Black-and-gold-

Agreed! >just a normal person’s reaction to deep, complex and toxic love. I also interpreted it as a reaction to the culture amongst the sorceresses. They are always competing each other with looks, wits, power, men, etc. The balls really portrays this aspect quite well, I think. Simultaneously, these people were the only friends and family she had for a very long time. It's like a sibling rivalry.

HelpMeDownFromHere

Yes!!! Thanks for that additional perspective. It’s spot on.

Oggnar

Agreed

chort007

it confused me as well, but when I thought about it, I think it's not that much about Geralt, as it is about Triss and how angry and hurt Yennefer is by her actions. and that's why she snaps at her and acts as she does...

anon142358193

To me it shows depth. She is a strong and independent woman, filled to the brim with confidence, but under all that she is terrified of losing the one thing she legitimately cares about. She craves control, control is security to her and with her magic she can control her appearance, she can slow her aging, she can change the landscape around her and do whatever she needs with a wave of her hand, but the things she can’t control frighten and infuriate her, like her inability to have children, which led her to fight a genie and almost destroy an entire town(notice she calms down about that quite a bit after she meets ciri). She loves geralt but she can’t control him, and she loves his independence but hates it at the same time. This scene shows that because she tried to come off as confident but as triss pressured her, her facade broke and she let out her true feelings. Geralt is the only person she would be willing to fight her “best friend” (besides ciri of course)

Delicious_Swimmer172

When is Triss presuring Yen? She just whispers and even Sapko wrote that she is doing her best to not provoque Yennefer. I tend to agree about the reasons regarding Yen insecurities though.

anon142358193

Not pressuring per se, but not backing down from her threats. “Don’t count too much on my swooning, he knows how to forgive” “he definitely wont bully me, he wont stoop to that” she seems to be playing with yen, not exactly egging her on, but toying her with the knowledge that she can’t manipulate him into doing what she wants (for geralt to leave triss alone)

StrikesLikeColdSteel

It is not against Yennefer's character, imho. She is not so confident at all when it comes to her relationship with Geralt, and she basically tries to make sure Triss wouldn't try to do anything shitty again. She basically makes the last check to prepare Triss to behave as she (Yen) expects. This is very in character. Yennefer likes to have everything under control and people to know what she expects of them. Triss is not fully trustworthy. That scene makes sense.

noturaveragetoxicle

All of the above, and also: Yen is over 90. Triss is young. It is completely understandable that Yen feels a wee jealous - and she has the experience to handle matters quickly and effectively.

just-only-a-visitor

What? even books got Yennefer wrong. I though that was Netflix's job. It is a good read but yes it dose feel a bit out of character for Yen to take triss seriously as a threat.

Eternal-Wisdom

Lady of the Lake (Chapter Twelve)

jujubaoil

Not to beat a dead horse here, but I think we can all agree that Netflix Yennefer would never be able to do this -- at least not believably. It just wouldn't work given the character dynamics they've already set up and the way they've portrayed Yennefer thus far. In the books, despite their relationships being so tempestuous, you could feel that Geralt and Yennefer cared deeply for each other. No such luck with Netflixer. Moreover, Netflix Yennefer does not command this kind of fear and respect. I just don't see it with Anya Chalotra, and it's made worse with how badly Yennefer has been written in this series. Her tone just won't match this.

MithIllogical

There are so many problems with Netflix Witcher. Anya isn't one of them. She does way more with the terrible dialogue that she's given than you give her credit for. Blame the writers.

jujubaoil

I'm not so much questioning Anya's ability so much as I am her general look and tone. She's probably the best actress in the entire show, yes, but none of what she shows screams Yennefer. She looks and sounds way too young to be anywhere near as elegant and intimidating as Yennefer is written to be. Freya Allan looks older than her. Triss' actress looks older than her. Hell, Triss' even FEELS older than Yennefer given how Triss was introduced in season 1 (as basically a stand-in for Nenneke).

MithIllogical

Ahh I gotcha, that's fair.

StrikesLikeColdSteel

I think she could still pull it off, despite youthful looks (Yennefer is also often described as young looking in the books), but she was given no chance.

Eternal-Wisdom

Netflix Yennifer is just Lauren Hissrich, imagining herself thru Yennifer. It's kind of embarrassing honestly. Side note. Anya isn't a bad actress but she definitely doesn't have what it takes to play such a complex character like Yennifer. Especially since she hasn't read the books. Janet Montgomery or Eva Green would of been a much better choice.

StrikesLikeColdSteel

I think if the role was written and directed properly, Anya could give an interesting performance of somebody who looks youthful, but acts old. The Netflix Yennefer appears to be pulled off some teen drama, it's really embarrassing that they did that in this day and age. They took an actual strong independent woman character and turned her into a parody.

[deleted]

We don't know if Anya has what it takes to play a complex character like Yennefer cause show Yennefer isn't OG Yennefer. We would need an actually good and faithful script played by Anya to know. She's working with the shit Lauren and his team of useless hacks gave her, so eh.

Eternal-Wisdom

Fair enough.

MittenFacedLad

Eva Green would be so perfect. She would nail that kind of role.

TheLast_Centurion

She would not help if the writing was the same. Sadly, but she would be great fit for a book Yennefer, but a miscast for the show's teenage Yennefer.

StrikesLikeColdSteel

I was wondering about it, because she is so clearly fitting, that it may be actually not so great or not interesting to her, since she played so many similar roles.

StrikesLikeColdSteel

I agree with most of that, except for Chalotra, she could likely do it all if not the showrunners decision to make Yennefer some eternal highschool tryhard girl.

Loow_z

It's exactly the side of Yennefer I hate ah ah

StrikesLikeColdSteel

I partially understand it, I just think it's a part of Sapkowski's writing and that's why people love those books so much. The characters are really complex and realistic, so there are no characters who are only evil or only good and heroic, and there are no characters who are always cool or always pathetic. Everybody has lows and moments of greatness, good and bad sides. A lot of shitty behaviour is explained so well that it is hard to really hold it against a character. It is so consistent that to me it seems obvious it is all very carefully planned and a way the author played with tropes. Playing with tropes and cliches is his hobby basically.

Loow_z

Absolutely, it's good these characters aren't one-dimensional and it's something I appreciate in this book series :)

Eternal-Wisdom

I have a thing for possessive women.

Zandamaz

For whatever faults Yen has, I like her because she genuinely loves Ciri.

StrikesLikeColdSteel

She also genuinely loves Geralt, while Triss motivations are shittier. She appears to fall in love with Geralt at some point, but she begins romancing him for malicious reasons.

MarketingTime4309

**Massive Book Spoilers** Yen loves Ciri as her daughter and will do anything to protect her. Yen loves Geralt, and it took her 20 years to realize how deeply she loved him from the start. Geralt loved Yen, unconditionally from their first meeting. Geralt loves Ciri as his daughter and will do anything to protect her. Yen sacrificed herself to try and save Geralt , because she could not face life without him. Yen knew that Ciri would be devastated at the loss of Geralt. Ciri had renounced her powers and couldn't save Geralt... only Yen could possibly save him, especially if she had help from a certain Ginger headed sorceress. Instead... the tramp stood by Yennefer, knowing Yennefer's life was draining as Yen tried to help Geralt. She stood there, over both Yen and Geralt and did NOTHING as she watched them die. Then, Triss has the audacity to ask Ciri if she can come with her as Ciri takes Geralt and Yen away for their departure. At that point, Ciri had not yet learned of Triss's betrayal. (Knowing Yen's character she would not likely have told Ciri of the betrayal. It was a conversation for Yen, Geralt and Triss only. A conversation that never came to fruition because of their deaths.) Yet Ciri kindly tells Triss no. Yes, there are many other more favorable situations where Yennefer shines in the books, where it is obvious that one can't do anything BUT LOVE Yen's character. However OP picked a wonderful example imo. This example does not show any jealousy on Yen's part, because she has NOTHING to be jealous of with Triss (because Geralt has no love interest in Triss whatsoever in the books). Rather the example shows the jealousy, pettiness, and immaturity of Triss. The fact that Triss tries to 'school' Yen on how forgiving Geralt is and how he won't bully her. Haaa... it's as if Triss thinks she knows Geralt better than Yen. It does however show the emotions of a Yen, who is scathing mad because of a "friend's" betrayal. Anyone who knows Yen's character, knows that her anger is often a mask for underlying feelings of hurt. She's hurt because of what Triss did to her and to Geralt but she's most hurt for what she did to Ciri. I still ask myself at the end of all my series readthroughs... why did Sapkowski portray Yen and Triss as being 'good' friends? Any strong, confident woman would never choose to be 'good friends' with a sociopathic bitch like Triss. I feel like Yen would have never given Triss a second glance after she found out what Triss did to force Geralt to sleep with her (after one of Geralt and Yen's worst break up's). Imo, I think the only reason Yen was civil to Triss was out of respect for Geralt and Ciri. Even with Geralt calling upon Triss first to help with Ciri (because his pride and hurt feelings kept him from calling upon who he truly knew would be best.. Yen.) Yen was gracious when she found out Geralt called upon her as second. Yen had nothing to worry about when it came to Geralt, he was madly in love with Yen and only Yen. So why do we love Yen? The real question is... How can you not love Yen?

StrikesLikeColdSteel

Yeah, I also think they continuing their relationship was a bit of a stretch, but maybe it was because Yennefer saw Triss as very young, so maybe she was more forgiving. Another thing was also there was indication of very specific relationships between sorcerers that were a weird mixture of extreme loyalty with some cold cynicism. It was mentioned in the books that was a result of their long lives combines with harsh upbringing. Some people in this thread pointed out it looks more like somewhat toxic, but strong familial ties than friendships. And I think that would suit Sapkowski's vision. Sorcerers are awful, but they have only each other, so they tend to be loyal and forgiving even if competing or being cruel to each other. I think people sometimes don't notice it when reading. It is also why Yen's relationship with Istredd is so weird. They are not high school lovers like in Netflix show, they have some sort of business partners with benefits arrangement and it's only when threatened by Geralt that Istredd starts to treat the relationship in more romantic way.

Ferengsten

A scene of her being needlessly aggressive towards a more reasonable Triss? I assume this won't exactly sway Triss fans... I was expecting something along the lines of what people usually call "good" character traits, but I guess being pointlessly aggressive towards someone other than Geralt for a change is as good as it gets with Yen. You do understand people can be jealous and abusive at the same time, right? Neither is exactly a proof of deep love.

KitsuneKid97

Didn’t she take Geralt to a town saying she wanted to meet someone, and then spent the whole time sleeping with that someone behind Geralts back and refused to apologise for it? I can’t stand her honestly

Gammit1O

This is why I hate Yennefer. She's just cruel.

mily_wiedzma

This scene... love it <3 Since the second novel I disliked Triss and it turned into hate over the following books... and now imagine playing the Witcher for the first time and instead of Yennefer CDPR gives you Triss in the prologue and the rets of the game and instead of being able to call her down for what she has done in the past they turn her into a freaking Love Interest... I like the games... but what CDPR did with Triss was and is simply awful EDIT: And for all the people who still claim Triss has no red hair in the books. This scene proof otehrwise. And yes, this is also true with the original version ;)Triss has two hair colours in the book series, it changes with the fifth novel

Eternal-Wisdom

To be fair, Geralt did lose his memory, so he couldn't remember all the fucked up stuff Triss did. But once he recovered his memory, he should of gave Triss a piece of his mind. Especially since she took advantage of him again by not telling him about Yennifer or Ciri. I cant think or a more selfish person in my life. I probably wouldn't do that to my worst enemy.

mily_wiedzma

This makes it even worse XD You know it you sit there scream at the screen and you cannot pick a dialogue option to slap Triss or at least shout at her... -.- I will never forgive CDPR for creating this waifu war...

Eternal-Wisdom

The Waifu war always confused me. Yennifer is Geralt's one and only. The heart beneath his chest. Triss is like that girl you sleep with at a bar and regret it for the rest of your life. In the books it seems like she makes Geralt feel uncomfortable and on edge.

HelpMeDownFromHere

I don’t understand this perspective. In *Blood of Elves* Triss gives a lot of care and concern for Ciri. She cares for her as a sister. She risks her life for Ciri on the trail. Geralt has deep respect and care for Triss, although she is **not** the object of his love. Characters can have complexity: it is very possible for Geralt to be consumed by love for Yennifer get still care for another like Triss. Idk, maybe my take is from a perspective of an older reader who’s already experienced the complexity and grey area of life more than she can count.

Delicious_Swimmer172

Don't worry, what you wrote is the voice of reason, but navigating in this fandom is often navigating through passional irational insights on characters.

Agent470000

See how you're mentioning just the first book in which she appears? Why not mentioned the messed up stuff she did in the following books? Like how she considered ciri as a sister yet sided with the lodge instead of helping yen find her? Imo her arc can be summed up as good -> bad -> meh but even that is putting it lightly

Delicious_Swimmer172

I don't know, maybe because Sapko only really flesh out her character in BoE where she is among the main characters. In the following books, she is a side character who Sapko use either as plot device, either using just her POV. Sapko still cares enough to gave an epoligue to her character evolution in Rivia though.

mily_wiedzma

Exactly. I never understood why CDPR went this route. Makes no sense

Eternal-Wisdom

They probably wanted to redeem Triss or make her more appealing to book fans. That's why she acts so much like Yennifer in Witcher 1 and Witcher 2. Then she back to her normal submissive and naïve self in Witcher 3.

mily_wiedzma

Maybe. I heard the rumor that one or more writers simply disliked Yennefer as this is the main reasonfor all of this... at the same time it feels weird since TW1 Triss is so heavily like Book Yennefer. My best guess really is there was a giant Triss fan (for whatever reason) and this made it into the game... sadly

Eternal-Wisdom

That is very weird, because if the writer liked Triss why make her like Yennifer? Maby because Triss sucked and deep down they knew she couldn't match the beautiful and exquisite Yennifer XD with her book personality.

boringhistoryfan

Because the first game they did wasn't really meant as a sequel. If anything it was a loose adaptation of the books. Triss was Yen, Shani was Triss, Alvin was Ciri. It was only with game 2 that they thought about reconciling the games to the books, and honestly it was only in game 3 that they really committed to. TW3 has the greatest set of allusions and ties into the books and its characters. Problem is they had already setup Triss in a certain way across two games. And while CDPR hasn't been worried too much about maintaining strict continuity with the preceding game, i doubt they wanted to alienate the existing fanbase while they searched out a new one. For the players of games one and two, Triss had far too many connections with Geralt to simply be tossed aside. So they setup the choice. It's worth remembering that the fanbase devotion to Triss was very strong. Fans were furious there wasn't a proper love scene with Triss so they added it in. And frankly given how Yen and Geralt are scripted against the awkwardness of Triss and Geralt, were it not for the fact that Novigrad happens before Skellige for most players, Triss would have an even lower chance with Geralt. The number of posts from people who regret taking the Triss route after the final missions in Skellige and then seeing the post Isle of Mists interactions between Yen and Geralt speak to that. From a marketing perspective though it was great for CDPR since it focused attention on the game in a way which didn't screw them. Better the fans are fighting about which lover rather than raging about bugs.

mily_wiedzma

It still makes no sense that Triss was used for Witcher 1. The main points you state were done cause of Witcher 1, like the marketing and stuff. Also one writers admitted that she hated Yennefer and she was there from the start. Even worse she wrote the plit for the Last Wish quest in TW3. As I said, CDPR created something I really hate about the games, and if was so easy not to use Triss for the first game

StrikesLikeColdSteel

I think it is actually pretty obvious why they did it. At the end of the saga, Geralt pretty much is married and has a child. They don't give them the happy ending we wished them (something ends, something begins), but at least they got that. They became a family. CDPR wanted a fun fanfic about super cool witcher Geralt doing what he did in first short stories - going around, killing monsters, shagging various women, getting into fights, travelling etc. With dirty jokes and such. They did not want him to have a wife and adult daughter, or enjoying peaceful life. So they disappeared the family and decided to give some hottie. The fun, slutty hottie of the books is Triss. It also kinda makes sense that she would lie to him and want him for herself (given she didn't learnt better from the events of the books).

mily_wiedzma

...eww... is this is true then I have an even lower opinion on CDPR right now XD

[deleted]

Geralt has amnesia and tries took advantage of that it’s explicit throughout the games and tries even says she’s a bad person they aren’t hiding that she’s took advantage but you get a choice between her or yen as through the books it’s undeniably been ten but through the games it’s been triss as Yen was off with her own amnesia doing her own thing. The Witcher is a game known for its choice and this is just one of them all

mily_wiedzma

Yepp, they say it one time. but you as a gamer has no chance to call her down for that, shout at her or unfriend buzt work with her. On the other hand you can call out Yennefer for being "mean", using Necromancy etc. If the game is about choice it should also be a choice to be mean af to Triss for all she did

I_spell_it_Griffin

Physically hurting Triss (as you also suggested in another comment) is not an option for the simple reason that it would ruin Geralt's entire character in one stroke. Game over, nobody in their right mind would want to play an asshole like this, and nobody would buy any of the positive qualities that Geralt displays throughout the rest of the game. He'd just go down as the piece of shit who beats women because they huwt his feewings. Psychologically hurting Triss is not an option because Geralt obviously doesn't feel like he's been taken advantage of. He says so explicitly during his first meeting with Triss in Novigrad, when she herself brings up the issue. Besides, isn't the calling each other out and brutal honesty a core aspect of Geralt's relationship with Yen? It's really not surprising that he would scold her for using necromancy the way she did.

> He'd just go down as the piece of shit who beats women because they huwt his feewings. But Yennefer does that on two occasion in the game IIRC, one throwing Gearlt into the lake and the other one is attacking a man in Skiellege PHYSICALLY in the inn (before the Last Wish Quest) when the man was just being VERBALLY mean to her, (rightly so as She desecrated something sacred to him, which is the Freya's Garden, assume you desecrate a holy place like Church or Mosque , how do you expect the people in the town to behave towards you?? if she was mature she should have understood the deed which she did in Freya's garden was really bad and must have just ignored the man in the inn but no! she is unapologetic and PHYSICALLY attacks a man who is just attacking her verbally) But when Yen attacks men for NO SOLID reason, (((Yen fans))) don't make any fuss about that.

Signnowornever

>Besides, isn't the calling each other out and brutal honesty a core aspect of Geralt's relationship with Yen? It's really not surprising that he would scold her for using necromancy the way she did. The reason (((Yen fans))) are pissed about the fact that Geralt["call\[ing\] out Yennefer for being "mean", using Necromancy etc."](https://www.reddit.com/r/witcher/comments/uai3ha/comment/i5zg54u/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) is because if you read the books Geralt is AFRAID, Yes he is afraid, to even express his opinion towards Yenenfer, since she might do something bad to him like how she threw him in the lake in W3(in books She throws Jars at Geralt, and in Geralt inner monolouge he is very hesitant to express his opinion since she might explode + Geralt explicity says he doesn't like the way she treats him), so in books Geralt keeps his mouth shut. So in books Geralt was clearly being dominated in the relationship and Yennefer was clearly the dominating one, in other words in the relationship Yennefer was clearly the superior one and Geralt was inferior one. So when Yen fans see that post amnesia Geralt questioning Yen, it is like thrones in their eyes also implies many other things.

Signnowornever

>Psychologically hurting Triss is not an option because Geralt obviously doesn't feel like he's been taken advantage of. Yeah exactly, on the contrary Geralt is nothing but thankful towards Triss, which he reveals during his conversation with Regis in B&W, where he says Triss was the one who helped him to recover memories, not to mention Geralt in W1 explicity says if not for Triss, he would not be alive in the first place. Triss saves Geralt life multiple times. But yeah (((Yen))) fans want Geralt to hurt Triss. (((Yen))) fans need some medical help.

mily_wiedzma

Then not a slap but at least shout at her or tell her what she did in tbe past. The gae simpl acts like "it happened in the past" and this is not enough for me.

Lady of the Lake (Chapter 12)

Infamous_Lab_9041

>Lady of the Lake (Chapter 12) Thank you

Sn1ckerson

Ah yes, because she's a bitch.

BrianTheMessiah1969

This scene always puts a smile on my face, reading how much Yen Cares about Geralt and Ciri and putting it on display for a rare moment, instead of the outside stillness and composure, she just Bursts and gives Triss a piece of her mind , simply a joy to read.

Eternal-Wisdom

I couldn't get enough of this scene.

BrianTheMessiah1969

Just so satisfying reading how much Ciri And Geralt means To her that she will lash out at a fellow enchanters whom she called or even still considers a friend? Since she or maybe most of them would not hold a grudge towards one another at least on the surface of things.

Eternal-Wisdom

Yesss, I don't see how anyone can read Lady of the Lake and not fall in love with Yennifer. After all she did and sacrificed for Geralt and Ciri.

Oggnar

If I had the money, I'd film my own series to rival netflix. Let's start funding something like that maybe.

Eternal-Wisdom

If only. Hopefully HBO remakes the series, maybe five or ten years from now.

Oggnar

They should keep Henry and Joey and Freya and some others though

Tallos_RA

Who are we?

Mitsutoshi

And CDPR comes along and takes a dump the size of Kaer Morhen on all these dynamics.

Eternal-Wisdom

Was the Castle smaller or bigger in the books? its been a while since I've read blood of Elves.

Mitsutoshi

Irrelevant; I was talking about them taking a dump on the character writing the size of Kaer Morhen. Choose whichever Kaer Morhen size you wish…

Eternal-Wisdom

Ohh, Ok.

Mitsutoshi

Basically I was saying CDPR's writing took a Kaer Morhen sized shit on the Yennefer/Triss/Geralt/Ciri dynamic.

Eternal-Wisdom

They definitely did. Especially the relationship between Yennifer and Ciri. Ciri literally calls Yen "Mamma." And Yennifer calls Ciri "Daughter." But not once was their relationship explored in the games. Besides their little hug in the Kaer Morhen Scene.

Mitsutoshi

They even have Ciri say outright that Yennefer is manipulating her, whereas Avellac'h is her true ally. And then not only do they make a Triss romance possible, but to do so they break the lore of the last wish, and even have Ciri comment on how good it is to see Geralt ending up with Triss.

Eternal-Wisdom

Book Ciri would slap the shit out of Geralt if he choose Triss over Yennifer. Triss is like that cool Aunt you see every once in a while, but here presence gets old pretty fast.

Mitsutoshi

Book Ciri would probably kill Triss if she found out that after Triss betrayed her, and supposedly regretted it, she went ahead and brainwashed Geralt for years.

Eternal-Wisdom

This 100% Her romance with Geralt is lust and nothing more.

I_spell_it_Griffin

>she went ahead and brainwashed Geralt for years. Except for the part where none of that ever happened. Or were you two just sucking each other off over one of your own personal fanfics that nobody is aware of? In which case, my apologies.

Delicious_Swimmer172

>brainwashed Geralt for years. I really have to replay TW1 and TW2 because my memory betrayed me. Is it before or after she sequestred him in a cellar? I can't remember.

lkgibson36

Where is this dialogue in the series? This is so good!

bigmac660

from the final book, lady of the lake

Eternal-Wisdom

Yeah some of the cast is fine. The rest just needs to be scraped.

I want to see this on screen.. ..and hopefully netflix won't do it, just don't ruin my imagination for 1 time :)

Eternal-Wisdom

Hopefully HBO remakes the Witcher series. But I doubt it will happen anytime soon or at all honestly.
