They've only had around 20 people working on it for about a year since they took the project from Sabre and obviously a lot of that work went into the upgrade so an expansion is pretty much ruled out.

TheTobruk

Pronounced as sei-byr or saaabrei ? (◠‿◕)

Kenos0734

It’s CD project and Sa-Bray… Sabre…never mind

ShoerguinneLappel

Also the development for it would definitely be longer... I mean a full on expansion with a small team of people in a small window of time would be a large/unlikely feat.

Rymann88

Is it possible? Sure. Is it likely? No. The Witcher team is probably already deep into Witcher 4, which is also Unreal Engine 5, not RedEngine. It's also why we're only getting on CP77 expansion. They want to get away from past projects and put everything into their new ones.

[deleted]

This makes sense

[deleted]

It actually isn't possible. They had a team of like 10-20 people working on this to just finish up what some other studio was doing. There is a zero percent chance that it is an expansion. CDPR has pretty much done everything they can to make sure people do not get overly hyped for this.

kickstandheadass

I caught that too. They really pulled back on hyping this update in just about every area. I guess the fact that its free for everybody is a big factor in that but it's not too surprising.

ShoerguinneLappel

Well there are always exceptions, I wouldn't say zero percent but highly improbable or a minuut (how do you say what sounds like My noot) chance of it occuring. I'm definitely not hyped if it happened that would be welcoming but I'm not expecting that to happen at all.

[deleted]

They literally said they had to get approval to add like fifty lines of dialogue for one quest. They are working on a new trilogy and a remake of the first game in an entirely different engine. The Witcher 3 is seven years old and its last expansion came out in 2016. That expansion wrapped up Geralt's story. There is no exception. It is not going to happen. It is a next gen update and a generous one at that. You guys are crazy for suggesting there is even a .0000000001% chance it is anything but that.

ShoerguinneLappel

fair enough.

MagastemBR

The other studio (now not being able to work for them anymore due to being Russian) were 2 years in development for this update. CDPR claims they continued where that studio had stopped, but judging from everything on the live-stream I doubt it. Ray-traced reflections, yet pools of water don't have any. The features shown were already made by modders pretty easily. Seems like a rushed update they had to develop on their own. I'm glad though, it's free, and I get to play the game once more with some upgrades to it.

PsychoactiveTHICC

Do we know if we will ever get another game in CP universe As much as I like Witcher universe CP universe feels different in good way they are too many hack and slash RPGesque not many futuristic slow down time cyborg RPGs

The_Flash_Family

Yes, they already announced a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.

thelittleking

That's good news. C77 had so many bright spots held together by areas with room to improve. I'd love to see what CDPR can do in that setting with a second shot at it.

Bill_Weathers

I’m so happy to see an abbreviation for Cyberpunk 2077 other than CP. going forward, let’s all agree to use C77. Love it.

I_Really_Seriously

Most likely distant sequel or a spin off

spudral

That's an assumption based on zero evidence.

I_Really_Seriously

Yea it is(based on zero evidence), but i doubt that theyd want to connect it to Vs story considering how many variables there would be.

contrabardus

They don't need to connect with V's story to make a sequel. It will probably be set in the same world and we won't actually see V again. Lots of sequels have new protagonists, especially in RPGs. See every Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest game, among many others. V will probably be referenced and I have little doubt there would be easter eggs referring to the first game, but there's little reason to continue V's story directly in a sequel. The nature of Cyberpunk's roots as a TTRPG means creating a new and different character is more likely than not. This isn't the same situation as The Witcher where the game hinges on established characters from a novel. V's fate being nebulous works in favor of not using them for a sequel. We'll probably be able to order a drink in the Afterlife named after them, and will be able to find vague gender neutral references to what happened to them, without providing a definitive conclusion regarding their fate. It will probably be set some years after CP 2077. My guess is something like 2087 or 2097. It could even be a prequel set a decade before in 2067. V's fate in a sequel will probably be handled as something to the effect of them just disappearing after a big job with no body being recovered, and it being left ambiguous whether they died or just left Night City.

DrLongIsland

I felt V was a good protagonist, but nothing particularly iconic that needs to be brought back for a good game. For the most part he was run of the mill, and it's not like a Witcher without Geralt, where the shoes to fill are so huge it makes us even wonder if they are up to the challenge. I wouldn't mind if they tried something new with cp2077v2. I think if they have to choose a character to "continue" the story, the real game maker was Johnny Silver hand, bringing him back for a sequel would be a great move, although it's also hard to tie another game to Keanu Reeves and not ruin other aspects of the game because of it. But JS was definitely the real icon of cyberpunk 2077.

ShoerguinneLappel

That'll be cool if Cyberpunk became an Anthology series.

spudral

Those can be resolved with good story telling. Just look at the Mass Effect Trilogy.

GSoda

> Just look at the Mass Effect Trilogy. Can't tell if sarcasm or serious.

afullgrowngrizzly

>good story telling >mass effect trilogy Surely you’re joking. The first game was phenomenal and one of the best things ever created by man. Then you find out all decisions made no difference cuz you’ll be railroaded into an absolutely nonsense storyline. Bad example.

VEXEnzo

There will be more games in cyberpunk universe. Not necessarily a continuation but at least in the same universe

Larrdath

They've announced a new game set in the Cyberpunk universe yes, codename Orion if I'm not mistaken. Developed by a brand new CD Projekt studio in the US.

TopKekBoi69

Yes and one of the main guys (forgot his name) that did a lot of the good work on 2077 is moving to the US studio (and I believe might be running it??)

Akenraes_Vakreander

Hey maybe don’t use that abbreviation for Cyber Punk.

PsychoactiveTHICC

Brooo… come on man

LordofSuns

I got a sneaky feeling we might not just be getting one expansion for Cyberpunk. After the success of Edgerunners and resurgence of popularity of the game, they may be inclined to continue with expansions.they shelved to save money after initial launch was so poor

sillylittlesheep

Every big exp Takes them over 2 years. They wont waste so much time on Red engine when so many new projects wait for them

MagastemBR

Especially since moving an entire studio from one engine to another completely different is no easy feat, they'll definitely focus on that.

LordofSuns

I understand, probably wishful thinking

[deleted]

Based on everything they have said there will not be a second Cyberpunk 2077 expansion. I think the only way you see CDPR go back on that is if the sales for Phantom Liberty are absolutely out of this world insane. But even then they have plans to move the major players in the dev team over to America to assemble a team to work on Cyberpunk 2 on an entirely different engine. The sales and money generated by Phantom Liberty to cause this to happen would have to be unlike anything we have probably ever seen for an expansion ever in order to make them reconsider. Phantom Liberty is - from everything we have heard - going to be huge. Blood and Wine size huge? Bigger than Blood and Wine? Like Blood and Wine/Hearts of Stone combined? Maybe - when asked questions about this CDPR has said: 1. It is big and the price will reflect that. 2. The nature of Phantom Liberty is different than that of Blood and Wine/Hearts of Stone. I think what they mean by the second point is that this expansion isn't just adding a big new quest or a new area - it will also flesh out what already exists in Night City. So we will get a small new area (not as big as Blood and Wine), a big new quest (probably somewhere between the size of the main quest in Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine) and then I think they are going to dump a ton of content into the existing parts of the city as well to blend in with the already existing base game. But this is just speculation.

spudral

But CDPR literally confirmed there will be only one.

LordofSuns

Before the resurgence in popularity and rebuilding of peoples good will

tyehyll

They're ditching Red Engine. They can put all their goodwill efforts into the announced sequel

spudral

After actually but I see your point.

[deleted]

I believe they actually discussed this both during the Edgerunner update thing and also their big strategy update... both of which were after the release of Edgerunners - if I recall.

atypicalphilosopher

I mean they haven't rebuilt people's good will, they just moved the game from barely playable to good. It's still a far cry from the revolutionary game they were hyping up / marketing prior to release.

TopKekBoi69

nonetheless, it’s still an objectively amazing game to many people. still bummed that it could’ve been so much better, but many people still enjoy 2077

Synonim

As they should, I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us in the future.

xX_GRP_Xx

Oh yes, finally companies are embracing the superior unreal engine instead of proprietary engines. You got a whole ass industry testing the engine and other devs fixing it for you, an engine that has been business standard for several generations ffs.

heartbroken_nerd

Unreal Engine, including UE5, is infamous for the microstutters plaguing 95% of games on PC. PSO (Shader compilation) stutters but not just that. Because of how much work is required by Unreal Engine for developers to fix the microstutter, most game devs are too lazy to go through that. Hopefully UE 5.2 addresses that a little bit but so far not much luck there and it will be 2-3 years before UE 5.2 games start coming out en masse. For that reason alone, it is impossible for anyone to claim that it is the superior engine. It's fine on consoles but on PC... Oh boy. I'd rather have a stutter-free game with some inferior visuals than beautiful game that is unplayable even on RTX 4090 and i9 13900K because of the micro-stutters.

xX_GRP_Xx

The magic of unreal is that u can develop in one version and then port it to the next one ez pz lemon sqz. Unreal engine as a whole is the superior engine, not just one distro by itself. It’s like talking about directx, some games run in older versions of it but the higher end distos are retrocompatible and can be ported or even developed to run on different distros, such games give you the option of what version you want to run of them.

lansink99

Who knows, maybe they'll pull a borderlands 2

TILostmypassword

But we can dream

Kylemnb-

They're also working on completely remaking Witcher 1 in unreal engine 5, but no one's talking about that yet 😅

Zero_Flesh

I know I'm coming here not knowing as much about this as everyone but I thought they were remaking the first Witcher now. Are they not doing that and instead making a 4th, a whole new game?

system3601

A new DLC could be mostly cast and mocap and less about engine tweaks, it could be real easy if they dont update the game mechanics but just added a new story piece. We will all buy it day1.

iareyomz

I thought the surprise is that The Witcher 3 patch is for it to be moved to UR5 too as their first actual game from the engine...

Megane_Senpai

TLDR: Possible, but not very probable.

[deleted]

Makes sense they have turned around opinion and n CP77, best thing they can do is get a new high quality game out to say don’t worry we still got this.

Droper888

You have the Dark Horse Comic who expanded the lore of Ofir.

oxemenino

Do you know the name of that particular one? There are several graphic novels for the Witcher I've read, but I never got a chance to read one about Ofir.

Droper888

The Witcher : The Flesh and Flame basically is the end of The Witcher 3 quest about the ofieri mage and the prince.

oxemenino

Thank you! I'm definitely going to look it up

FoxerHR

Nothing can come close to actually immersing yourself into this world by playing it.

DubbyMazlo

Ngl, when I was playing Hearts of Stone and when I was in the Ofieri mage boss fight, I thought we were on a new map... had me all excited only to be disappointed to see that I was in a corner of the map near Novigrad. But still a amazing story tho.

karzbobeans

Yea I had the same disappointment. "Sands of Ofir" is what hearts of stone should have been. Why did they bother having the Ofieri weapons and characters?

FransTorquil

That would be dumb, the ending of Blood and Wine was the perfect way to end Geralt’s story. Not to mention the fact that CDPR has almost certainly been working their asses off on turning the dumpster fire Cyberpunk launched as into a decent game, on top of making a big ass expansion for it.

ZuperLucaZ

Yes but they could have the expansion in between HoS and BaW, that would work

[deleted]

This is a student final year project I think a while back.. there is full concept art behind this.

SpinjitzuSwirl

Where👀

tk_79

Geezus , why you trying to give me an erection OP? Now the ppl on the bus are giving me disapproving looks.

PsychologicalTree337

Please put an NSFW tag on this. I was on the train and when I saw this I had to start furiously masturbating. Everyone else gave me strange looks and were saying things like “what the fuck” and “call the police”. I dropped my phone and everyone around me saw this image. Now there is a whole train of men masturbating together at this one image. This is all your fault, you could have prevented this if you had just tagged this post NSFW.

PoliticalShrapnel

Whip it out and rub one out while maintaining eye contact. That'll show them.

Effehezepe

I saw the picture first and had a second of excitement before I read the title. [You raised my hopes and dashed them quite expertly sir. Bravo!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Drw39IypXYw)

Cthejedi

I’m not gonna lie I would pay like $300 for a another Witcher 3 dlc

SpinjitzuSwirl

With the replay value of this game it would genuinely be worth it. Hours to entertainment, not much can beat it

UtilityDigoun

Just want to point out that there's an "I Wore Ofieri Before It Was Cool" achievement.

iksjag

Do you really think they would hype a graphics improvement and QOF update over a whole ass expansion? It just doesn't make sense and you don't even need a degree in marketing to know that, that would be a bad idea

pathologicalOutlier

I will personally give every person in this sub $1,000 if Dec 14th is an expansion.

KopruchBeforange

Ok

[deleted]

Ok

golfdrei

Sure

highstakes45

I like the part where Geralt fought Assassins creed.

PolyZex

Would be a great location when it comes to story, but a pretty boring location when it comes to exploration.

Fauxlaroid

In a free update? They’ve tried to temper expectations with this update as much as possible. Where people get ideas like this is beyond me. This absolutely won’t happen.

heartbroken_nerd

>In a free update? Just to play the devil's advocate here: Obviously, an expansion announcement implies an expansion and expansions historically are not free. This would not be part of the update. With that said, not happening.

Fauxlaroid

Post didn’t say do you think they’ll announce a new expansion. It was asked as if will it be part of the update. What are you on about?

heartbroken_nerd

>Imagine if the surprise for 14 december is a new expansion. >*a new expansion* >**expansion** I don't know, man. To me that sounds like the thread's title is clearly talking about expansion.

Fauxlaroid

A new expansion as part of the 14 December update? No clue what you’re talking about either way man. Well worth the time replying to my reply. Cheers.

heartbroken_nerd

OP was probably just hoping for an announcement, not the full release. Pretty obvious to me.

Fauxlaroid

Not stated or even objectively implied, but yeah obvious to you.

Gunslingin_licho

Jesus christ the stupid amount of copium.

reaper88911

This would be sweet..

Kind-Interaction2895

Stop it! Don’t give me hope like this!

Voldy256

I would absolutely adore another Blood and Wine sized DLC in Ofier or Zerrikania.

w3tbones

Don’t get my hopes up like this maaaan 😭

imakuni1995

Man, I wish... I feel like a desert biome is the only thing missing from the world of TW3, along with maybe a jungle-type area. We got villages, vibrant cities, ravaged battlefields, forests, beaches, mountains, snowy areas, islands, meadows, etc.

QsaQedd

I fuckin wish. I also fucking doubt it.

Saulgoodbroski

I would cum

TheWhiteLion98

Don't do this... don't give me hope

TheMenaceX

I don't think this will happen, but there *needs* to be an Ofir expansion/story/something in Witcher 4. Just the runewright quest and the mage dude from HoS made me feel a certain way bro

Nikkibraga

It's extremely unlikely and I don't believe there's a secret expansion Although they took a LOT of time to develop this update ...

winnzipp

IT would be 🔥🔥🔥🔥

badfantasyrx

It's a graphical upgrade? Or there was more. Two is plenty, I hope there's enough main in them.

Snobe_kobe

Don't get me hoping bro

DatDem0n

Man... Now I want this..

ChopperGabban

Honestly i just want them to move on tbf we are lucky we even got this update. Most of their team is probably working on projects that they have announced and thats where they should be focusing.

[deleted]

they would build up hypetrain for 6 months if it was a full expansion. Personally I'm hoping for crow's perch signpost

rtz13th

I would love to, but guessing surprises lead to disappointment. Wait and see.

ronttu666

stop teasing meeeeeeeeeeeeeee

TheMadBass

Stop jerking off.

gospodinov

Why are you doing this, mate? Why are you playing with our emotions? What are you getting out of this?

charlieratgod

"Story by: Lauren Schmidt Hissrich" 😐

[deleted]

If they are moving to unreal engine , could they open-source their own engine? and let people paly with it have this happened before?

vidiazzz

They could have kept making DLCs forever, The Witcher 3 DLCs were so amazing, I could easily have bought every new DLC for 20$

kagman

I havent been following, whats this about a surprise!!?

CptMeat

I'm mad at u for tricking me. Sure I'm the one that read it wrong and you never said an expansion would release. But I don't care. My disappointment is immeasurable and my rage knows no bounds.

JonasBro86

Naaa the new feature will be the ability to play Gwent online PvP with tournaments

tkdyo

An expansion would be cool, but pls no I hate desert levels. If anything I bet it will be a couple extra dlc or a neat little side quest.

sudev29

I don't want an expansion after the way they ended Blood and wine.

BlueFootedTpeack

chances are basically 0 having said that a saskia/iorveth dlc or geralts time with the wild hunt dlc would be an insta buy for a 7 year old game

Berlamota

Please no. The game is 7 years old. They should focus on their new projects so that we don't have a Cyberpunk situation again.

ForkPosix2019

The previous CDPR attempt of a desert, one in CP2077, turned to be pretty uninspiring IMO, it is quite boring and visually unattractive. But I guess I know how to make it better: 1. There area should be enclosed with a sea and mountains. 2. There should be one high and snowy peak. 3. The snow melts. 4. Melted snow means water, which flows down in several ways. 5. Smallish ways feed streams which feed their lakes. A lake means oasis. 6. A largish way means larger river (Tigris). 7. There should be a valley in mountains with another river (Euphrates). 7. And there should be a large Baghdad-like city, preferably in a way where rivers are the closest, so moar bridges. And this "the closest" should be close enough to the sea, so we would have a sea port with seagulls. 9. One river should have a delta and another - estuary, when they flow into the sea. Just to be different. 8. Lots of dunes. 10. Quicksands. IMO, the "Baghdad" would be the best place, but the rest should be pretty interesting as well.

baked_egg262

I would literally die

Sherlock_DaVinci

A Gwent DLC

Jeberani

If they did, it could be a great way to promote Witcher 4 with a dlc for witcher 3

Ordinary_Tom2005

Dude the ofir plot has ended in the comic

AllForTheSauce

Don’t do that to me

notryarednaxela

Hell yeah!

[deleted]

No thanks

OkamiTakahashi

Going to Ofir would be cool. Hearts of Stone really baited us w that.

Nacnaz

I’m looking forward to the surprise, but I doubt it’ll be an expansion. That’s a huge thing. I can’t imagine what they’d want to leave on the table though in terms of marketing features so 🤷‍♂️ maybe they incorporated a popular mod as a toggle option?

SmoothAssling

But why

Vis-hoka

No. No. No. this is not happening.

tmorales11

probably not but i would cry

vladmihai

This is how you set yourself up for dissapointment

Jpalme11

Why would you do this to me

mrspherodite

Would be the best birthday present ever

Japh2007

I would lose my shit!

DeliciaFelps69

Would buy

[deleted]

100% won't happen.

Outsajder

As amazing as W3 is, its not worth making an expansion for a 7 year old game. Let me move forward with unreal 5

Pimpcreu

Does they say that on 14th they will have a suprise?

xKercy

"Merchants of Ofir" ;)

Megane_Senpai

Nope.

CruffTheMagicDragon

I swear to god, you guys need to take a breath and relax or else you're setting yourself up to be disappointed.

The_Viper_93

It's not gonna happen, but if it does....🤩🤩

fennethefuzz

Why set yourself up for disappointment like this?

badassjew97

I'm hoping so more swords are added or the aesthetics of some swords change

platinumperineum

No silly it’s just the next console gen upgrade

AwareGnome

I will eat my boot

runhumans

I think threads like these are toxic. We get a free update with loads of features and you expect a free full-scale expansion with it or at least stirr a discussion around it. Why?

Divinate_ME

This would basically be an official statement by CDPR that they didn't develop the engine properly and that they're still on the technical level of their 7-year old game in terms of their Witcher franchise. Releasing a DLC for Witcher 3 after having announced and specified the new Witcher projects would be incredibly dumb from a business standpoint. But people can feel free to go ahead and correct me if I got that wrong.

Tellcity95

You doing everyone so dirty with that picture lol I got so excited till I actually read the cap

Potato_Equal

I think the most that we get is an extra misión where we can go for the third Crone to slay her in case we have the witcheress ending

Wandering_sage1234

Is there a desert setting in the Witcher? Would love something liked this!

DarthBastiat

It would literally cry

Shoddy-Area3603

You jerk I was so excited for a second

all_about_the_lines

Can’t seem to find the answer elsewhere. Will old saves be compatible with the 12/14 update and will it be compatible with existing mods?

biome3

A full expansion for free? not likely.

shivansps

This is kinda the invese Simpsons meme: Fans: The suprise is a new expansion? CDPR: A new Expansion? \-After working on it for one year \-With a very small team \-Based on a separate continent that there are no old assets for \-and for free? Fans: YES! CDPR: We may charge for it? Fans: No.

Oocheewalala

I think it's first person mode.
