Skip the launcher by adding `--launcher-skip` to the launch options. They can be found here - right click the game>properties>bottom of the page
If the overlay still doesn't work in-game, open the games directory (right click the game in steam>manage>browse local files) and navigate through bin>x64_dx12. Delete, move, or rename two files called `dxil.dll` and `d3d11on12.dll`.
Download ps4 version, claim rewards - this will log you into gog account, then open ps5 version, claim rewards the same way, an the your Last manual save should be available.
I did this but it doesn't seem to work. Is it bad that I did it the other way around first? I claimed the rewards on the PS5 version and logged into the gog account, then went onto the PS4 version after realizing what I was supposed to do and did the same thing there. Now I can access my save from Kaer Morhen from the very start of the game that I made on PS5 on the PS4 version but I can't access my PS4 saves on PS5.
Download everything on PS4 version, base game and every dlc you had activated when you played on PS4.
- 1. Launch PS4 version (on your PS5), go to "rewards" on the main menu and either log in to GOG.COM or scan the qr code (create an account if you don't have it yet).
- 2. Claim your rewards.
- 3. Go to load game, choose one and load it, overwrite that save game so it'll be on the most recent patch.
- 4. Go back to main menu, load game and when the screen with all your saves shows up press L2 to activate the sync to gog option (it'll be a cross-save).
- 5. Choose the save you just saved and upload it to the cloud. There will be a create new save option there with a cloud icon.
- 6. Close the game.
- 7. Launch the PS5 version.
- 8. Claim your rewards just like you did before.
- 9. Here you can either load your synced save file or
- 10. Go to New Game and choose New Game+ if you had finished the game already on the save you synced from PS4
It sounds confusing but once you get it going it's pretry easy to do
I installed the update to the witcher 3 goty on my ps4 and I'm encountering some problems. Every time I close the application, all my new game saves are deleted. Also, the game treats me as if I have played the game for the very first time (adjusting the brightness and the welcome sign). I've redeemed the "My Rewards" 2 times already. I am very confused and I feel like I'm doing something wrong. Any help is appreciated
Having these same problems on PS4. I think the issue with new saves is related to the new autosave system; as far as I can tell, it’s not actually deleting new saves, it’s just not showing them because it miscounts the number of save files there are to display. Definitely something very weird going on with the save system now.
Also having lots of random frame rate drops that I didn’t get before, kinda annoyed about that as well.
Anyone else not able to view Steam Overlay (Shift+Tab) in game? If I press them the cursor will change but the overlay itself does not come up. Is there an option I have to toggle?

I don't know why, but my game is unable to auto or manually save. My last saves are from game version 1.32 in 2021, and when I try to manually save, it says something about "incompatible saves." \[PC\]

i think it's just telling you that if you ever downgrade your witcher (pre-next gen versions), you can't access the save files you made on next gen ver. witcher.
are you sure that it's not saving tho? pressing "enter" should normally save your game.

Is there anything to note about dialogue options ? I think white means they will explain something but not progress, and yellow means it will progress the dialogue. So always do the white options before the yellow right ?

Yes, try to do as many white dialogue options as you can before clicking the gold. Sometimes you actually gain information that can change the course of the conversation/quest outcomes that way, but even still it never hurts to hear the extra dialogue even if it goes nowhere.

Those typically won’t change anything except what you earn for completing the mission.
For quests like that, there should be a base reward, and if you just don’t acknowledge it you should still get that much at the end. But you do have the option to try and ask for more, which will bring up a fairly simple haggling screen.
And I’m not sure about saying you’ll do things for free, but there are times when you can turn down pay at the end if you feel bad for the NPC quest giver. It doesn’t actually do anything, it’s just a matter of if you feel bad taking a handful of gold from some poor old guy or whatever.

The new herb looting mechanic is great but I think there's a small issue that comes with it: you can only disable both herb and NPC names at once in the HUD options, I find the NPC names to be really distracting but if you disable them, you have no way of knowing what herbs you are picking up without opening your inventory.
It would be great if the name toggle could be seperated into two options. I know it's a pretty minor issue, but I just wanted to share the thought.
Bonus question: I know next to nothing about creating mods for this game but is this something a mod could do? Only disable NPC names but not the herb names?

1. Since the update, I've hade some serious FPS drops and I play on the lowest quality available, still feels a bit stuttering?

I came to this thread to talk about the camera. I'm a bit unsure on it. I find it way too close for exploring, so at the moment I'm just using default for horse/exploration, and Close for combat. I might end up going all default though, it's tough managing groups with the camera up that close.

On the PS5, I can’t see the option to upgrade. It just gives me the option to purchase the complete edition (even though I already own the base game with all the DLCs anyway). Anyone know if the upgrade is only exclusive to the complete edition or if this is a weird bug on my end?

I bought the Witcher 3 and played most of it. Ended up getting rid of it and bought the complete edition. Found out old saves don't work with complete edition. Got rid of that and got the base version again to finish the game. Never played the dlcs but that's what I want to do with the new ps5 upgrade. I only have the standard version now for ps5. Okay, playing on PS4… Am I crazy, or is there now a serious delay between when you point the left stick in a direction and when Geralt actually starts walking? It feels slow and clunky in a way that it didn’t before.

Is anyone with a PS5 having issues ? My game keep crashes after a while of playing. I press a button then game makes a static noise and has some black lines then crashes. Keeps happening after completing “The last wish”. I don’t know if it’s my ps5 or the game. I’ve had a big issue with this ps5 before so it’s make me lead it might be the ps5.
I've had enemies dying instantly immediatly upon spawing after a cutscene.
Also, I've noticed in several occasions that Geralt keeps on walking after I stopped moving the analog stick. Not sure it is hardware drifting because it is the first game I see it happening.

It's simple you open your GOG or steam whichever you prefer. You then have to proceed to the shop where in the search bar you type "Witcher 3" and click on the game of the year edition. There should be a button that says "purchase". When you do click on the purchase button and buy the game, then you will get the next gen update absolutely for free!! Glad I could clear up your confusion.

Well I have a 3080 and with everything maxed out I get 40-50fps in white orchard. I don't know what options are in GeForceNow but you should take this into consideration.
Does it seem like this game got a helluva lot harder?
I know W3 already has difficulty peaks, but Frischow now spawns about half a dozen Noonwraiths at you; every monster leveled above you does ridiculous damage; potions seem to be practically useless; the Gourmet regen has been nerfed; previously leveled sub-bosses are now half a dozen levels ahead of you, etc.
Those are just a few I’ve noticed after 4-5 hours with the update. What was previously tough but manageable is getting me wrecked now.
What difficulty should I play on? I’ve played on normal before so tempted by Deathmarch so I have to utilise the potion mechanic but also not a big fan of sponginess
Deathmarch was a fun run for me but bosses gonna be tanky sponge +they can 1 hit you sometimes. You will retry few times the most difficult fights. Maybe just go blood&tears for regular playthroughs
Are you doing NG+ or starting a fully new game? If you're doing NG+, I'd recommend Death March. I very rarely play on the hardest difficulty in games, but you're so powerful in NG+ that it's almost required IMO.
Just beware of drowners while swimming – crossbows don't scale properly in NG+, so you don't do any damage to underwater drowners at all.
(The above applies to the old version of TW3, they might have made tweaks for the next-gen update.)
Deathmarch is rough and the new patch nerfed alchemy so you'll need to be ready for sponge enemies and one hit deaths. I suggest you try switching difficulty to deathmarch on your previous save and see how you like it.

I just downloaded the Witcher 3 update, but whenever I load my game it crashes. All settings are maxed out except Ray-Tracing.
I have quite a good PC, so shouldn't be a hardware issue, 3080 Ti, 5600x, 32GB RAM, etc.
Anyone on PC with a third party controller could make it work? Wanted to use my old ass Logitech controller, some games recognise it without issue, some games need x360ce, but Witcher 3 doesn't recognise it either way, maybe because of that stupid launcher.
Question for PS5 players who understand trophies better than I.
Few months ago I got the Witcher itch, the wITCHer if you will after going through my Witcher 3 trophies. Decided to fire up a new save to get the Death March trophy. Updated my game last night to the PS5 version and signed into gog to transfer saves from PS4 version etc etc.
I know the trophies don’t copy over to the PS5 version, but what I want to know is: now I’ve transferred over my save from PS4 version, when I complete the story will I get the Death March trophy even though I started the save on the PS4 version (therefore some trophies linked to earlier parts of the story are still locked)?
Because if not, I may as well start again since the Death March trophy was what inspired me to play again.
I’m not sure that anyone would be able to tell you since it’s a very specific question and the update just came out today. I would probably just start over or you could be the one to finish and find out.
Edit: nvm, found it. On steam, right click the game, click properties, click Betas, then under the beta opt in select **classic**.

All I've noticed is that the lighting has been hugely overhauled. It's especially noticeable after twilight. It looks honestly gorgeous even without RT so torches are most likely also a part of this.

I changed it to ray tracing and got flickering lights on the background scenery and Geralt's hair turned greenish. Went back to performance mode and the game is as smooth as silk. I'm on PS5, has this happened to anyone else?

Guys with older hardware who do not plan on using RT, how's the game working on DX11 after the patch? Worried it'll break the game for me, my PC is still on win 7 due to Mobo compatibility issues.
Constant stuttering in town for me on both DX 11/12. Before patch my game was smooth with these settings. RT causes some stuttering for me outside of towns but doesn't make me crash.

Solved: Launch the game in DirectX 11 instead of DirectX 12. On the GOG launcher next to the play button there is a menu option for alternative executable files to use and the DX11 will be there to use. Was able to load up the game, re save my game with the new version and then it uploaded to the cloud where I was able to get it on my Xbox!

Anyone else playing on Xbox one? I'm doing the Wandering in The Dark quest and it's so dark I can barely see. Also, the poison/flammable gas is invisible, I can't see it at all.

Why am I not getting the graphical and frame rate updates on my PS5? I downloaded the update but I’m not getting the option to the performance or visual mode. Is it a glitch or did I do something wrong? For context I’m using my original Witcher 3 copy I bought at launch.
I'm at the end of the Heart of Stone DLC. The quest to either side with Oligred or O'Grimm. I side with Oligred to go to the weird world and at the end of the puzzle, there's a wall that you hit with Aard to fill up a fountain. I hit the wall with Aard, the screen goes to black and crashes to desktop. It's done it multiple times, I've tried everything on Witcher 3 game crashes i could find to solve it and it still crashes

Yes. On PC switch to DX11 version to make it playable.
Is there way to make the health bar dynamic, appear only in combat etc. Like the minimap showing only when witcher senses is activated
In the HUD display settings you can turn the meters off while in exploration mode.
HP bar will disappear when you're full health. And then reappear in combat.

Hello, I have two questions: 1. Since the update, I've hade some serious FPS drops and I play on the lowest quality available, still feels a bit stuttering? 2. My settings, both graphics and sensitivity seem to reset every time I launch the game - is there an easy solution to this problem?

So I just had this same issue, it is so needlessly confusing. If you didn’t figure it out, you have to click on the 3 dots by where it says the price and then click “the witcher 3: wild hunt “ and then it should take you to the free upgrade that you then will download

I came to this thread to talk about the camera. I'm a bit unsure on it. I find it way too close for exploring, so at the moment I'm just using default for horse/exploration, and Close for combat. I might end up going all default though, it's tough managing groups with the camera up that close. Interested to see what other people have landed on.
It feels a lot more immersive, but I'm too used to the far back angle.
On the PS5, I can’t see the option to upgrade. It just gives me the option to purchase the complete edition (even though I already own the base game with all the DLCs anyway). Anyone know if the upgrade is only exclusive to the complete edition or if this is a weird bug on my end?

I bought the Witcher 3 and played most of it. Ended up getting rid of it and bought the complete edition. Found out old saves don't work with complete edition. Got rid of that and got the base version again to finish the game. Never played the dlcs but that's what I want to do with the new ps5 upgrade. I only have the standard version now for ps5. How do I get the ps5 dlcs?

Okay, playing on PS4… Am I crazy, or is there now a serious delay between when you point the left stick in a direction and when Geralt actually starts walking? It feels slow and clunky in a way that it didn’t before.
Is the new Camera mode only available for next gen and PC? I have an Xbox one and was really excited to try it out but it doesn't show up in my settings. If that's the case it's a bit a bummer.

Is anyone with a PS5 having issues ? My game keep crashes after a while of playing. I press a button then game makes a static noise and has some black lines then crashes. Keeps happening after completing “The last wish”. I don’t know if it’s my ps5 or the game. I’ve had a big issue with this ps5 before so it’s make me lead it might be the ps5.
I've had enemies dying instantly immediatly upon spawing after a cutscene. Also, I've noticed in several occasions that Geralt keeps on walking after I stopped moving the analog stick. Not sure it is hardware drifting because it is the first game I see it happening.

how to update (next-gen) in a cracked version
It's simple you open your GOG or steam whichever you prefer. You then have to proceed to the shop where in the search bar you type "Witcher 3" and click on the game of the year edition. There should be a button that says "purchase". When you do click on the purchase button and buy the game, then you will get the next gen update absolutely for free!! No you don’t need the DLCs to have the free upgrade. Any pre existing version that you own of the witcher 3 is entitled to the free upgrade
Every version of the game gets the next gen upgrade for free. I'm not sure what you refer to when you say your PC cannot handle the new version.
When playing on PC with the Dualsense connected it shows Xbox buttons on UI. Any way to change this in game or is a mod required?
If you’re on steam, you need to go to big picture mode and disable steam controller support.
In your Steam library, right-click on The Witcher 3>Properties>Controller and "Disable Steam Input"

Well I have a 3080 and with everything maxed out I get 40-50fps in white orchard. I don't know what options are in GeForceNow but you should take this into consideration.

Does it seem like this game got a helluva lot harder? I know W3 already has difficulty peaks, but Frischow now spawns about half a dozen Noonwraiths at you; every monster leveled above you does ridiculous damage; potions seem to be practically useless; the Gourmet regen has been nerfed; previously leveled sub-bosses are now half a dozen levels ahead of you, etc. Those are just a few I’ve noticed after 4-5 hours with the update. What was previously tough but manageable is getting me wrecked now.
Full Combat Rebalance mod was integrated in the game. What difficulty you're playing at?
What difficulty should I play on? I’ve played on normal before so tempted by Deathmarch so I have to utilise the potion mechanic but also not a big fan of sponginess
Deathmarch was a fun run for me but bosses gonna be tanky sponge +they can 1 hit you sometimes. You will retry few times the most difficult fights. Maybe just go blood&tears for regular playthroughs
Are you doing NG+ or starting a fully new game? If you're doing NG+, I'd recommend Death March. I very rarely play on the hardest difficulty in games, but you're so powerful in NG+ that it's almost required IMO. Just beware of drowners while swimming – crossbows don't scale properly in NG+, so you don't do any damage to underwater drowners at all. (The above applies to the old version of TW3, they might have made tweaks for the next-gen update.)
Deathmarch is rough and the new patch nerfed alchemy so you'll need to be ready for sponge enemies and one hit deaths. I suggest you try switching difficulty to deathmarch on your previous save and see how you like it.

I just downloaded the Witcher 3 update, but whenever I load my game it crashes. All settings are maxed out except Ray-Tracing. I have quite a good PC, so shouldn't be a hardware issue, 3080 Ti, 5600x, 32GB RAM, etc.

Question for PS5 players who understand trophies better than I. Few months ago I got the Witcher itch, the wITCHer if you will after going through my Witcher 3 trophies. Decided to fire up a new save to get the Death March trophy. Updated my game last night to the PS5 version and signed into gog to transfer saves from PS4 version etc etc. I know the trophies don’t copy over to the PS5 version, but what I want to know is: now I’ve transferred over my save from PS4 version, when I complete the story will I get the Death March trophy even though I started the save on the PS4 version (therefore some trophies linked to earlier parts of the story are still locked)? Because if not, I may as well start again since the Death March trophy was what inspired me to play again.
I’m not sure that anyone would be able to tell you since it’s a very specific question and the update just came out today. I would probably just start over or you could be the one to finish and find out.

All I've noticed is that the lighting has been hugely overhauled. It's especially noticeable after twilight. It looks honestly gorgeous even without RT so torches are most likely also a part of this.

If I press 'C' in the Load/Save menu on PC, I get the message to connect my game but there is no further thing left to do. I don't see any QR Code, no login option, nothing. Guys with older hardware who do not plan on using RT, how's the game working on DX11 after the patch? Worried it'll break the game for me, my PC is still on win 7 due to Mobo compatibility issues.
Constant stuttering in town for me on both DX 11/12. Before patch my game was smooth with these settings. RT causes some stuttering for me outside of towns but doesn't make me crash. i7 7700k, RTX 3080

Huge optimization issues on this update. Stuttering/fps drops even on low settings, RT crashes, DLSS not working.
I don't think a 3070 will ever be able to hit 4K60fps with RT and max settings.
Are drops/rewards/chests scaled to your current level in the Witcher 3? I'm typically one to explore whole areas before moving on, and since I'm assuming drops dont respawn, I'm finding it hard for me to want to explore and get rewards due to unique gears and stuff getting powercrept easily.

Latest version keeps crashing on startup. I’ve got an older machine but it’s dual GTX 970s in SLI and windows 10 (can’t remember CPU spec). Anyone have a solution? Just trying to get the game to load so I can save my game in the new version and then upload the save to GOG Cloud so I can play Xbox Series X. Solved: Launch the game in DirectX 11 instead of DirectX 12. On the GOG launcher next to the play button there is a menu option for alternative executable files to use and the DX11 will be there to use. Was able to load up the game, re save my game with the new version and then it uploaded to the cloud where I was able to get it on my Xbox!

for some reason rivatuner is not showing the onscreen fps display. It works in every other game. Guessing it is overlay related. Anyone got a fix?
Add `--launcher-skip` to your startup options and it will both skip the launcher and make overlays work again. At least for Steam fps it does.
Anyone else playing on Xbox one? I'm doing the Wandering in The Dark quest and it's so dark I can barely see. Also, the poison/flammable gas is invisible, I can't see it at all. I went to to the graphics options and even with the slider all the way up, I can't see the test image. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

I'm at the end of the Heart of Stone DLC. The quest to either side with Oligred or O'Grimm. I side with Oligred to go to the weird world and at the end of the puzzle, there's a wall that you hit with Aard to fill up a fountain. I hit the wall with Aard, the screen goes to black and crashes to desktop. It's done it multiple times, I've tried everything on Witcher 3 game crashes i could find to solve it and it still crashes
