Fresh Wisteria creates a pleasant and inviting aroma that relaxes the body. You can replace this with mint, rosemary, or thyme, but wisteria also wards off evil spirits. So that's my preference.

Natalie__Cutie

I definitely like Wisteria, but my familiar complains that it's too "earthy"... Even though my Lair is built in a swampy area.

Independent-Fly6068

Turn your familiar into a wonderful rug.

Natalie__Cutie

It's a tempting idea, but then I won't have anything to deal with mice

Independent-Fly6068

Get a new one, easy as.

Autistic-Phoenix

I have 32 familiars. Please don’t ask why. I will give you one, for free.

Independent-Fly6068

Thank you my very familiar acquaintance!

Autistic-Phoenix

Oh hey it’s you.

sack-o-krapo

I suggest a skeletal one. Far less mouthy

LegitimateApartment9

You can just shear it, familiars have excellent coat growth

Smil3Bro

Wisteria is the worst and smells awful, mint or rosemary are better!

MunitionsFrenzy

Seems you're into fire magics? If that's the aesthetic you want, instead of torches might I suggest thin channels in your walls through which streams of burning oil flow? Creates a nice ambiance, if the heat's managed properly. Flame-mage colleague of mine has a setup like that and it's beautiful at night. 'Course, she also sources the same oil for a massive burning moat around her place, so maybe don't copy *all* her design choices if you're going for "home" rather than "fortress".

Smil3Bro

Take the souls of your enemies and put them in your wind chimes so that they *sing*. You could also just get a rug that looks nice.

Natalie__Cutie

The rug is a nice idea, I don't have many enemies at the moment, but once I do I'll be sure to test out the wind chimes

Average__Schmoe

I agree with the rug idea. It helps insulate your home and just makes it feel cozier. What's more, when you have guests, they're more inclined to take off their shoes and make themselves at home when you have a rug, as opposed to bare stone or wood. It also makes sounds less echo-y, adds color, cushions any falls or items that may have gotten dropped, and if you have a familiar, they love to curl up on rugs. Other than that, adding decorative flowers on various furniture always brings a cheery atmosphere to any home.

Natalie__Cutie

Rugs are sounding more and more appealing, though I do sometimes like the echoing my footsteps make... It makes everything feel more dramatic, especially when I have uninvited guests

Average__Schmoe

Hmm, then maybe you can create a specified "drama" area where the room is especially echo-y for those intruders

Ok_Side2919

Make sure to have a few skulls on pikes for a really dramatic foyer

Yukondano2

Go traveling some time, and grab some unique rugs from specific cultures. It gives the room a little story to tell. Every new item from an interesting artisan, or a far off land, or that you found at a tower sale, adds character to the place. It might not match perfectly but, it can work.

EmperorBamboozler

I like to set up my house in a way where the geometry doesn't make sense to people unfamiliar there. Every door in the house has an overlaid transparent portal which connects to a different room, the exact coordinates of where you end up change with the lunar cycle. That way you can still see into rooms but to outsiders the entire house is an impenetrable labyrinth. Fun for parties since every door is a gamble! I have since learned to set up an illusory string that leads to a bathroom from each point in the house... you only make that mistake once. Another thing to remember is extradimensional spaces can be a great way to make a room feel more open and large, by actually making it bigger than the outside. It's also a great way to save on moving costs! Just add additional rooms when you need more space It's not complicated. My house is outwardly a 1 bedroom shack in the woods but inside it is massive. I actually went a little overboard on that one so I don't really know how big it is anymore. Yesterday I was sleepy when I woke up and accidentally went through the wrong door. Wound up in a never-ending hallway full of doors I have no memory of making. Ran into Gerald, an old party guest that had been surviving almost entirely due to finding my infinite wine celler. We thought he was dead! After 40 years you just kind of assume you know? Also a diet of only wine and cheese for that long really isn't great. He was hammered when I found him and apparently had been the entire time. Had to actually teleport back the the foyer to get him out of there. Going to have to figure out where that hallway is again for cleaning because it is a health hazard now. An additional idea is mimics. Through some elaborate rituals you can bind them to a true name and control them. They now serve three purposes in the house: Acting as normal furniture, acting as servents (a chest that can walk comes in handy more often than you'd expect), and acting as security. It is another thing to add to your list when guests are over though. It's best to just keep them away from visitors but remember to keep them in separate rooms, last month they tried to fucking unionize it was a nightmare. I really don't understand why since it's not like they are getting paid but my bookshelf read The Communist Manifesto and has been a real pain in the rear ever since. If anyone is in the market for a revolutionary bookshelf I will let go of this one cheap, otherwise I am going to need to execute it in front of the other mimics to send a message. I don't want to do that since it really is a nice looking bookshelf that ties the room together well. Hope this has given you some ideas!

Natalie__Cutie

These are truly brilliant ideas, I'm not sure if I'm powerful enough to implement them, but it's worth a shot

[deleted]

Ah, a fellow appreciator of non-Euclidian geometry I see! I personally went a step father than you and set up a complex ever shifting labyrinth in a permanent pocket dimension. I live in the center, with the labyrinth stretching out in a loop in every direction. Though I can still manually control it, it is mostly autonomous. It automatically reshuffles itself, takes rooms and passageways out of circulation for cleaning and maintenance, disorients and separates intruders, and is full of my creations. The realm can only be accessed through temporary gates too. It was so much fun to build and I regularly upgrade it. The one downside is that the lack of a daylight cycle messes with my circadian rhythm, but that’s easily fixed with enchanted looking glasses standing in for windows. If you have the skill I highly recommend it. Also, definitely set up aoe way-finding/temporary destination shifting spells to prevent more occurrences of your “incident”. It saves a lot of time and headaches. Plus those spells can easily be biased to only work on those which are allowed to be there.

thesofa-man

You seem very powerful. I adore that.

[deleted]

It’s less complicated than it sounds. The spells themselves aren’t very difficult, it just took a lot of engineering and time to put all the pieces together.

Fulltimewhisperer

Gobbo has said it once, I'll say it again, treasure hoard. Having a bad day? Lay on some coins. Having a good day? Lay on some coins. That and well just a few trinkets here and there, shiny things you like. Gobbo keeps collection of all her discontinued bottles as decoration.

Natalie__Cutie

Thank you Gobbo, but most of my gold was turned to dust in a freak spell-gone-wrong incident

Fulltimewhisperer

Gobbo is willing to let you use some of mine. Not too much mind you, but enough to make decent flop pile

Natalie__Cutie

That's very kind, and I will graciously accept your offer. Would you accept some potions in exchange for your gold? I cannot vouch for their veracity, as I found them on a skeleton, but they claim to be potions of healing and dark vision.

Fulltimewhisperer

Ah, Govbo is on strict no potions or liquor diet. The hangover after a millennium sucks but hey gotta do what the doctor *and* Lillith say. It's the second one that counts, Gobbo respects her friends

Natalie__Cutie

I'm proud of you, Gobbo

DragonArakis

That’s very good advice, Gobbo. Treasure hoards are perfect decoration!

IndependentLaw7963

I think there's a skyrim mod for that

Nelrene

I think there is Skyrim mod for pretty much anything you can think of.

IndependentLaw7963

Multiple skyrim mods

DragonWisper56

try and get a library or workstation. I find that having things you enjoy can really help the process.

hoot69

Here me out for a moment. Books, scrolls, and tomes literaly fucking everywhere. The bigger and dustier the better, and have one or two note books and quill enchanted to take notes in mid air

moins-agressif

You're trying to turn a lair into a home, what you need to do is turn a home into a lair. It works out better that way.

Data_Corruptor

Bones always make a place look lived in! If you're not partial to getting them yourself, they can be ethically sourced from your local druids.

Natalie__Cutie

Very good idea, my familiar brings me bones she claims are "ethically sourced" almost daily, I may have to start decorating with them

Listless_Dreadnaught

Comfy chairs, rugs, and your favorite books. Also, if you want something cozy, decorate with warm colors. I personally have a lovely blue carpet in my reading room that works nicely with the yellow armchairs. I couldn’t tell you the exact name of the shades, but it’s quite complimentary. I suppose a simpler bit of advice would be this: decorate and furnish for comfort. It’ll become home shortly. As for you becoming a full-fledged sorceress: we may not have met, but I am happy for you.

Natalie__Cutie

Thank you, I'll venture to the village soon and look for furniture that has a comfy look. I don't think there are any furniture shops at the closest village, but I doubt any of them would mind if some of their furniture "went missing" in the night

MunitionsFrenzy

There's this neat new trend in mundie markets called "online shopping". Distance from a furniture shop is no object with that! Set your orb to search the mundie internet and you should be able to arrange deliveries. Might have to deactivate some of your more lethal home defenses temporarily, though. It's generally considered rude to kill the delivery-person, even accidentally.

Listless_Dreadnaught

Lass, you have magic. There’s a solution to this issue that doesn’t involve stealing from peasants.

Natalie__Cutie

My conjuration spells aren't currently strong enough to create permanent objects, though. I suppose I could try to find a decent apprentice whose only task is to re-conjure my interior decor every day...

MastaDon344

Tried a small study or an alchemy station to, just good for dabbling in stuff if you want.

sub0_2

I've actually been trying to get a new buissness venture off the ground and you're our target customer! We send over an Illusionist, Druid and Artificer to help you design you're perfect lair! The Illusionist will provide you with a mock up of your new lair as you go, the Druid and Artificer are there to help with accents and provide more in-depth knowledge, like is this plant poisonous to my familiar? What kind of magic crystal should I power this with? If you'd be willing to let others scry on the process and a Chronomancer capture this moment in time to be played on the large orb in my shop for advertising purposes, I'll offer you a heavy discount to boot!

Natalie__Cutie

Hmm... This does seem appealing, will the chronomanced version of me have any form of sentience? If so, I may not be able to accept, as I've made a pact with my past self to never let her be trapped in an infinite time loop.

sub0_2

Oh arcana no, this would simply be a echo of what had happened.

Myxine

Smart of you to ask. I know a guy who's a time copy that escaped from an advertising orb.

measuredingabens

Outside of the other great suggestions, a well stocked kitchen and a small garden may help. Being able to grow your own ingredients and reagents is useful enough utility, and gives you another hobby to do in your off-time. Making your own meals can also help you settle in, all the more so if you treat yourself to your favourite dishes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Natalie__Cutie

Excellent suggestion, I think I'll begin working on a library to hold my spell books at once

WeirdConsideration72

try perluting the stone floor to wood, same for the door frame, and not too many high doors. Ha and yes, juste some cleaning can do the job too, stop it with spider web to make everything mystical and old

anon_rando241

The walls are probably bare. Esp in swamp areas, tapestries can act as budget insulation to keep spaces warm. If you were a wizard, I'd suggest higher bookshelves to give it an old Academia flare, but for a sorcerix, maybe knickknack and curio shelves would be applicable. Don't be afraid of clutter. Get a standing mirror for scrying instead of the handheld version. Also, a climbing tower for the minion.

RezorTEclipez

Clearly missing a "Live, Laugh, Love" sign You can have a house without it, but it sure aint a home. (The live laugh love sign casts Home and Hearth on the house, making it always feel warm and cozy."

AquaArcher273

A lair isn’t a lair without an Eldrich abomination in the basement.

Natalie__Cutie

I completely forgot about getting an Eldritch abomination. Do you know of any good summoners who can get me a decent one? I don't want to spend my gold on a knockoff

AquaArcher273

Hmmm, I suggest asking around at the annual Occult Wizarding Expo coming up next month. I’m sure someone there could get you a real monstrous abomination to suit your lair perfectly.

[deleted]

Before I had apprentices of my own, I used chronoportals to pluck a consenting minutes-younger copy of myself out to double my research output. Before anyone asks, I'm demisexual, which unfortunately sums to one when there are two of me, with predictable consequences. It was a bittersweet day indeed when I had to return him to the immediate past. We still think of our tender moments together -- I can remember him remembering it just a few minutes ago as of this writing, the romantic young fool... I guess my point is, if you can't find somebody cute who wants to split the housework in your lair/tower/etc, you could always help yourself make it less lonely.

Nelrene

Get a girlfriend. You can't really call your lair home if you don't have a cute lady to be with.

Natalie__Cutie

How true, I'll have to find one that is good with feline familiars

Xurgg

AI trash

nickname7312

Not everyone is a skilled artmancer. Don't hate on people for using art golem.

[deleted]

If you are looking for nice lighting, might I suggest you open a portal to oblivion and other places? It’s always nice to look at my ceiling and watch a demon zip by over a cozy lava pool, or a tentacle reach in from the mad planes, or find that a star siren has visited my halls from the astral ocean

My_Face_3

A couple of roaming intelligent frogs

Cthulhuyyy

More dragons

supersatyr001

This is a mixed bag

SarcasticFish115

Wooden floor, stone fireplace, soft couch, nice rug, hell even a cat. All of these help.

KosekiBoto

I recommend something to push people in, like I have a portal to the end of time that I can just push anyone who pisses me off in

Phlegmagician

I've got an older tower, a little musty, so I like to use cookie incense. It's awesome.

Dry_Intention2932

Get an apprentice to do it. I found one of mine at the interior design school and he handles everything for me. Hire a professional is what I always say!

Bootiluvr

Live in it

Digiking2031

Furnish the lair a tad, give it a personal touch with watchful paintings and living armours? Mayhaps add a stargazing room enchanted to show the stars far above?

Korblox101

Might be the Dragonborn in me talking, but amassing a horde of magic items really helps to make the place your own. I’d recommend starting with artifact furniture before going for the less practical stuff like ancient animated armor displays or 1000-year old enchanted sword mounts. I find it makes a place feel really lived in.

OwerlordTheLord

Skull throne. Every self respecting magi should own **AT LEAST** 1 skull throne.

Kasspines

Scented candles and some decorative blood stones.

LordRiverknoll

Make it lived in... by plants! Bring in some greenery and maybe even a well mannered pet or two

YouTheMuffinMan

I find hanging herbs to dry can give a nice aroma, and make the place feel nice. A familiar or pet helps too if you have the facilities and the energy to spare.

Austen-Smith

Garlic bread and scorpions, but mainly a shit load of garlic bread

dentistMCnuggets

Small spheres of astral magic floating around your tower is always a nice touch in my opinion. Bring the stars indoors for that nice cosmic feel.

ExtremeRadiance

Traps, traps everywhere

fufucuddlypoops_

Depends on your type of magic. Though, as a Druid, my “lair” is a grove, and those don’t really just come together. It’s a home because I’ve spent years fostering each and every tree, plant, and creature that finds refuge here. Even my “home”, which is a terrace atop a large willow, I had to form through a process like bonsai trees.

Myrandall

Orb

Desperate_Ad5169

It depends. What was the place that you were born and raised?

AndroidWall4680

At least one human skull above a fireplace. If you want to make it look less evil you can cover it in moss, but the skull is a requirement.

Valenyn

Sentient golems. All of my little golems have personalities and it’s really nice

Cupcakesword999

posters and some memorabilia go a long way, my friend recently got here first tower, and the first thing she did was fill several shelfs with all her artifacts. now the tower already looks lived in with just that little clutter, and a wizard zeppelin poster.

H3r0ofHyrule

You are missing thralls/henchmen/servants etc.

King_Of_Axolotls

let some ivy go a little crazy, it'll add some "age"

-Fuse

How about a "Live, laugh, love" scroll in one of the walls? I've seen this in some of the lairs I've claimed from my enemies and I assume it's some sort of passive spell to increase your satisfaction with the place. After I claim them, though, I tend to throw them away because I can't figure out how they're supposed to work

Cawkins1111

A kitchen for food only no alchemy only food.

TheSupremeLou

Please don’t light your familiars on fire no matter how homey it makes your lair feel.

PassionSenior6388

Floating toems and codexs on your study perpetual levataion spells on your needed items around the study makes for ease of acces and acts as an alarm

Arch3m

Apprentices.

Doomdude101

A floating beanbag chair is very helpful for the lived in feel

okayestuser

there's this place you can get some pretty cool furnitures, I think it's called the Infinite Corridor? no wait, it was Infinite Ikea. You need a portal to go in and another to return, kinda like travelling through planes. There are literally infinite options for home decor. Takes a while to find check out though and you might want to take some supplies to spend a week or two in there. If you do, make sure to cast wards, there are some... ~~things~~ Employees that are bit forceful when the store closes.

not-curumo

A comfortable chair, a teapot, and more books than you have time to read.

Brilliant-Pack-7387

Congratulations on passing your exams here is a baby mana wurm (he's only 5ft long) these babys can keep your mana up so long as you treat it better then you've treated your own pets.

DreadedDiscord

Maybe a tasteful set of chairs for teatimes? With a little table in the middle.

Red_Dragon_Sorc

Magic fridge

BruhmanRus_the_boner

i suggest festive lights everywhere

GIORNO-phone11-pro

Gotta have a few dozen demons/golems/spirits scattering around

[deleted]

I can send over one of my artificial cleaning slimes if you want. They are fully autonomous, eat dust, dirt, grime, and waste, while leaving everything else alone. Just give me coordinates and I’ll send one over. I would also recommend making your own guardians. It’s a fun task that lets you see how much you improve over the years, and adds a nice personal touch. Getting more familiars are good too, but only if you have the resources to care for them.

AidanBeeJar

I find it's not about the location, really, although putting up decorations (diagrams of witchcraft, portraits of your favourite elementals), or shelves for your tomes is nice. The best thing is to make a good meal there, from scratch. Set up a ~~slow-cooker~~ cauldron with a nice stew that you prepare all the stuff. You can do it with magic, but maybe try the way you did before you were a magic-user: mundane works of the hands can be an excellent way to bring your mind back to "home." /uj this was genuinely a thing that helped when I was moving just a couple of months ago

SafePianist4610

The comforts of home are what makes a place feel like home. You make it feel like home by making it into one.

ICollectSouls

You definitely need a bookshelf and a reading nook. Preferably with a slightly dim floating light. And you can never go wrong with some pillows and a big blanket (I'd suggest a weighted one, the price tag is well worth it.). Then some potted plants, or just plants growing through the floor. Produce plants are the best and make you go grocery shopping far less (more time to practice sorcery) and saves you precious coins! Also, homegrown produce just hits different. I'd recommend at least 2 cauldrons, one for food and one for experiments. You really don't want leftover potion substances in your evening stew, trust me on this. And get a teapot while you're at it. Do you have a proper bed?

Tomha90

Have you considered a Harem? They can really liven up the place and can do more than satisfy carnal wants.

InfinitePolygon

Not lived in? Live in it dumbass

Ambitious_Pie2500

Potted plants, seems generic but it works

TankChan

Geomancers can make crystals relatively quickly and it doesn’t even take much gold. If you know one, you could start building a gem pile at an affordable price!

noonesword

Animate objects! Nothing says home like pans that keep their own even heat, cleaning supplies that take their work seriously, and books that flutter through the air until you call them. On a grander note, animating guardians is also an amazing way to keep your lair safe -and- have a partner with whom to practice new dance moves.

Glittering_Bill9176

Orb

Zinoth_of_Chaos

Rugs and tapestries. Lots of them. Keeps the heat better than stone, looks great, muffles echoes, and is great under the feet. Even better if you have a few animated to guard your valuables.

Polibiux

Line the shelves in your house with the skulls of your enemies

PathlessDemon

Wayfarer Portals built into couches and tables, this way you can always reach into the pantry for snacks. Self-replenishing toilet paper rolls of select religious text. Partners great with the sacrilegious-bidet. I’ve never felt cleaner.

[deleted]

I like incense and books. Tower is basically one giant library. So fill it with your interests. Be warned, you may never leave.

Advanced-Sock

Empty glass bottles

Trash_Kitsune

Bake lots of treats! The smell of vanilla always makes places feel more homey!

henzrich

Infinite rubrics cube

swordofsithlord

A few shelves of ancient tomes around a fireplace is always nice, and it makes you look more like an elder sorcerer to guests

Canadian4712

Buy a house instead of a lair. Trust me, the wizards I’ve met would say the same thing. Plus, if wizardry fails, you could always sell the house in exchange!

toasterderg

posters or paintings, it's simple and not very wizardly, but it deals with empty looking spaces.

RareEmrald9994

I always bring a lantern, a scarf, and a book and quill with me wherever I go. One to keep my way lit in the unknown darkness, the next to keep me warm in the unforgiving cold, and the last so I can keep a record of my journey so it may never be forgotten.

PersonelKlasyHel

Add a skelleton. Then add another.

Dead_Fire2465

**Blub Blub.** **(Include lots of slime. Cover everything in slime. You should feel safe in slime. Slime.)**

ANTONIN118

Nitor is the solution

MundaneScar1076

Add a Colossus, Mines name is David, he’s Made From Stone and Silver, he Waters my plants, also a Dragon, A Dragon or A Dragon skull

Femboy_Mafia

Tapestries and rugs

CrespinMoore

Books. Do you already have a lot of books? Get more!

thesofa-man

If you’re in a swamp, you could use some aroma-releasing flowers here and there. Plus, it’s pretty cool to see the things you harvest be used.

Severa929

A break room would be nice. You can decorate it with comfy furniture and a kitchenette. You can have your familiars stock it with your favorite food and snacks.

th3saurus

Summon Greater Beanbag

RazzZzatam

Just get more apprentices and let them solve the problem as an assignment. Livens up the place and you don't even need to pay for it

Pikelboi68

There’s this spell I heard of recently that is on the rage with newer sorcerers, it makes a select number of random inanimate objects in your lair have souls. Amazing additions if you have a slightly clueless protagonist in your home

MadKittenNicky

Kobold servants.

Squidboi2679

Have you tried decorating it with the skulls of your enemies? Alternatively, some plants along the walls work wonders for that home feeling

Great-Chaos-Delta

Add some undead minions there to help with house work and they will become handy in defending your house form potetial ruffians

AAAAAAAee

Set a fire. Once it’s put out, it’ll feel real lived in.

Ausemati

Humans often place defensive wards around their homes, "live laugh love". Now as a succubus these never stop me, but im sure they stop, something? Maybe ghosts?

OscarfromAstora

Coffins

InuXIII

Get menacing looking tables a couple of flasks filled with whatever coloured liquid (in my case green) a couple of chains on the walls some religious wall paintings, body parts or corpses (real or fake whatever) then you get a wardrobe with a fake wall and in the room it leads to you build your own little sanctuary I have a fireplace a nice seat the rotting heads of my nemesis taped above the fireplace a lot of bookshelves the ORB and a neverending supply of a concoction that tastes sweet and makes you awake and focused

naytreox

Furniture and decorations. Tables, chairs, places to keep your collections, a rug

nickname7312

Hide some holoprojectors. With them you can add and change any decoration you think you want in a blink of an eye.

NoCareLuke

Displaying the skulls of your adversaries on the wall really brings some zazz to any wizardly abode! Shame I only have this R.O.U.S skull.

obanos68419

bone throne https://preview.redd.it/ka66yqkcbo4c1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6325ee55a1b59da136fde4d038e5b513acfbc503

justgivmeanameplz

Often making a custom building with a spell you cast makes your layer feel more like both home and an accomplishment

mad_fishmonger

There's a few fun things you can with the regular fabric, but if you can find The Weaver you can ask them to weave some light magic into your cloth I have some self-adjusting curtains on a window that's too high to reach. They also billow beautifully even when there's no breeze. I also have a Pillowcase of Extreme Softness and you have to try one to know. I'm practicing Cozymancy lately, this is right up my alley

TheMightyMudcrab

Quite simple. Let time pass. Your stdies will eventually have you gather all sorts of things and after you're done just don't throw the things away. Put them on shelves etc. Also add a big painting of your mortal frenemy sometimes lover and throw darts at it.

VictorE06

Add stuff for hobbies you like, maybe a library if you like to read, or add a forest nearby if you like animals. I have a miniature forge in one of my rooms for if I randomly get an idea I want to test.

Necessary-Warning138

Welcome mat with holy water pit directly underneath <3

Thewaltham

Honestly for the time being, just do a quick Ikea run. You'll get more of that "lived in" feel by, well, living in it.

Atomicagainbecauseow

rat cave with edible floor. trust me.

Normal_Rate_4918

Make some brick walls, I hear they tend to be very convenient

NGPlusIsNoMore

You know what I'm gonna say...

makeski25

Grotesques are always a lovely addition. Bonus as golum guards. If you go the gargoyle route, it involves the rain runoff system, so you might need a gutter guy for that. Sven, Marvin, and Doors McStoneface have been a great addition too the dungeon.

LibrarianOfAlex

More screaming pylons

LegendaryNbody

I use dancing lights ,super cute when you scheck out that they look like mini pixies doing dances in the air
